Deployment/Install question

Hi,
I have my app all completed and have done a test deployment (Clickonce to Dropbox) to my laptop, All is working as intended, updates are working as intended.
I am letting a friend test my app for me. He went to the dropbox link I gave him, the download went as exptected, the install went as expected, the app opened as intended.
However
I noticed that there was no desktop shortcut created. When the app closed I could not find it to manually create a shortcut manually.
I do notice an icon on the desktop that has Tenant Tracker 2015.appref-ms
What did I do wrong in my deployment? Is there a setting I am missing?
THANKS
MW

Hello,
It depends on which version of .NET for your project, if it is .net 3.5 and the later version , then you could enable the setting to add shortcut.
Project properties->Publish->Install Mode and Settings->Options->Manifests->Enable "Create desktop shortcut"
If it is .net 3.0 or the lower version, then you could refer to the following thread which also shared the way adding desktop shortcut programmatically.
Create desktop shortcut option in ClickOnce deployment
is disabled

  • Newbie deployment/install question for JRC

I did some searching and reading the SDK doc, but it's mostly silent on the topic of how you set things up.
I have Crystal Reports 11 Developer edition (not Eclipse).  I'd like to create a simple JSP app which displays a crystal report in a browser, on my Java app/web server.  (And lets the user output/view it as PDF.)
I think I can use the JRC to use this, but, I don't know what needs to be deployed to the Java web/app server to make this happen.  Can anyone elaborate on what files/directories need to be there?  Where do I get them, from my Designer PC in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\java\lib" or elsewhere?
    Thanks in advance.

Long time ago it was supposed to be fixed
Support | Error 259 deploying Install MSI action
I am sure that bundle in question (Autocad 2011 Deployment install from network with credentials &
dynamic admin) worked fine in 11.2.2
After upgrade to 11.2.3a it gives me this error & fails
    Not really helpful
(and please do not advice me to install it by copying it to local machine, I
    am not interested in this)

OK. If that is the case, then it sounds like a bug. Can you open an SR to
    have it looked at?
FWIW, running Procmon, once for the ZCM bundle and once for the batch and
capturing logs might provide some additional info.

There maybe just something in the autocad installer that doesnt like being called from the zen agent, it wouldnt be the first time a company has written a dodgy setup process lol what we found also was that if you put in /W in the autocad commandline which is a switch for SCCM then the installer behaved correctly, so i think the issue is actually with their installer rather than zenworks now.

please answer asap install question post

    Hi C,
No, you should wait till the end of the Welcome video, when the message says it will restart to finish installation it means installation is still in progress, conclude the procedures.
    Happy installing, good luck.

  • Free download, and install question

    Free download, and install question.
I need to buy a larger h/d, but till then I would like to put as many programs as possible on a external usb drive that I have hooked up to my PC.  I've been able to do this with some other programs, and would like to try it with my Adobe Reader and Flash.  When down loading and installing it does not give me the option to install in a defferent location other then my C: drive.  Can this be done?  Thanks you?

From the MSI you have to create a MST (Transforms). In the MST create now the new property INSTALLDIR=F:\, where F: is your USB-drive. If you use then the command
    msiexec.exe /i [MSI] transforms=[MST]
Adobe Reader should be installed to F:

  • Deploy Powershell Script As An Application Install Question

I want to create an application (not packages) to run a powershell script to install a software. In this script it installs software and copies files over to different directories. Is there a way to do this in Applications? Currently I've been creating
task sequences to accomplish this which does work but I was wondering if this could be done thru applications or maybe if there is some better idea of doing this. Any advice would be grateful. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Any updates?
If this problem has not been resolved, please check AppIntentEval.log and AppEnforce.log to see whether there are some helpful information.
" I can run it manually from the ccmcache folder and it'll install the software but when running the "install.ps1" file from SCCM it doesn't install the software but does copy files to the directory specified."
Could this be related to the account running the script? How about running as system account?
    Best Regards,

  • Client Install Issue - SCCM 2012 R2 - Manual Deploy Installed ok

Hello, I have sccm 2012 configured with 2,000 machine approx. It is been used mainly as a Software Deployment tool for now. On checking a recent IE10 upgrade, I noticed that there is a number of machines that do not have the client installed (and thus did
not upgrade IE). I picked 1 machine, searched in SCCM - had no client. I checked all relevant settings:
Boundary for Client in question - ok
Local Client Settings (ip,dns,no firewall, ping sccm ok and vice versa etc).
Once i right clicked to deploy the client, it installed no problem. I checked the ccmsetup log file and the only info it had was from the time that the client was manually deployed (I will attach the log below anyway). I am really puzzled as to why the client
did not install and if this is the issue why IE is not upgrading (it is hard to pinpoint as there are 250 sites approx). The automatic install task works no problem on other machines once the machine goes online.
Any help, would be great. Here is the log (I am fairly new to SCCM btw):

  • Java Update - After deployed install and settings

    Hi there,
In our managed Windows 2000 environment with Windows XP Pro clienst (SP2) we use Active directory to deploy software packages.
We are currently trying to install J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5, which works perfectly. We have made a transform file for giving answers to the MSI file of the Runtime Environment.
In the tranform file we have specified as wel that "Java Update" will be disabled after installation. This works well, too. After deploying the package, however, we notice that when a user logs on onto the workstation, a message is diplayed on screen, asking the user whether or not he want to re-enable the Java Update mechanism.
Is there a way (e.g. by a registry key, or another MST adaptation) to prevent this message?
Another question: is it possible to set the "Temporary Files", "Jar compression" level and several security settings like "Warn if certificate authority can not be verified" via registry keys or within a transform file?
Any help would be kindly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sander.

I don't know what happened, but AFAICT, you did the job wrongly. I suggest redoing it this way (TM help files) and not worrying about fixing the mucked up system:
+*To revert to a previous version of Mac OS X:*+
+1. Insert the Mac OS X installation disc in your computer’s optical drive (or an optical drive connected to your computer).+
    +2. Double-click on Install Mac OS X+
+3. When the Language Chooser appears, select your language, and then click the Continue button (looks like an arrow).+
    +4. Choose Utilities->Restore System From Backup.+
+5. In the Restore Your System dialog, click Continue.+
+6. Select your Time Machine backup disk.+
+7. Select the Time Machine backup you want to restore. To restore your computer to the state it was in before you erased it, choose the most recent backup.+
    +8. Follow the onscreen instructions.+
Alternatively, if the SuperDuper! backup was a bootable one of your previous installation, restore it. That's better and faster than mucking with the TM restoration procedure above.

  • 11.1.1.7.1 wls install questions

I have the following Questions/Comments related to the latest version of MapViewer Install on WebLogic/Windows Server (WLS ver 10.3.5.0)
    1. When installing MapViewer, the documentation suggests not needing to expand the ear file, but there is some question as to where to get an initial version of the MapViewerConfig.xml file. I assume you can pull if from the documentation, but shouldn't there be copy external to the ear file? (or do you copy it from the deployed version)
    2. Specifying the location of the MapViewerConfig.xml file. Section 1.4.2.1 suggest setting a property in the setDomainEvn.sh file. It is assumed that the windows equivalent file is "setDomainEnv.cmd". There is no "–Djava.awt.headless=true" property within the "setDomainEnv.cmd file. (note it is not contained within the setDomainEnv.sh in WLS ver 10.3.5.0 either. I successfully deployed this within the java options, but not exactly sure it is in the correct location.
    3. http://www.example.com:8888/mapviewer/omserver?getv=t returns Ver11_1_1_7_1_B130516 -- assume this works
    4. http://localhost:8888/mapviewer -- login works.
    5. http://localhost:8888/mapviewer/fsmc/tutorial/demos.html -- doesn't work. In reviewing the deployed version, no tutorial folder exists -- how do you get to the tutorials?
    6. When performing a MapViewer restart from within the Admin page, WLS provides an error stating that the mds.xml file was missing from the MapViewerConfig.xml folder. Should this file be there? This was not in the install instructions (to my knowledge).
    Thanks

    1. Yes we will bundle the config files (there are two now, mapViewerConfig.xml plus the new mds.xml file) and upload them to OTN for download in the next couple days. In the mean time you can unzip the mapviewer.ear and the web.war file inside it to a temp folder, then copy the two .xml files from the WEB-INF/conf/ directory to the folder of your choice.
    2. We will fix the doc with regard to the reference of -Djava.awt.headless; but it sounded like you were able to add the -Doracle.maps.config option to that file. To verify if this option was actually picked up and used by mapViewer, you can log into mapViewer's admin console, click Management then Configuration. On top of the configuration data, there is a File Location field which shows where the mapViewerConfig.xml file is being loaded.
    5. The new mapviewer.ear no longer ships any tutorial/demo/sample request or online API docs; all of those are now packaged into the separately deploy-able MVDEMO application (which you can download from the same OTN mapviewer site since version 11.1.1.7.1). This was mentioned in the 11.1.1.7 release note (http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/products/mapviewer/mapviewer_11p6_readme.txt).
    6. Please refer to 1 above about needing both .xml files (mds.xml and mapViewerConfig.xml) for mapviewer to function properly.
    thanks

  • Install  Question CR 8.5 and XI on same PC ?

    Hello All,
I have what I think is a easy question, but i cant seem to find an answer anywhere.
    I have 1 PC. (XP)
I develop software using VB6 along with CR 8.5
I have VS 2008 on my PC but i want to use CR XI
I installed CR XI and found that my VB6 App and my 8.5 reports werent working.
Can I have CR 8.5 and XI on the same PC without cause conflicts?
i.e. When i installed XI, even though my VB6 app references the 8.5 DLLs when i goto same my RPT it makes it via the XI DLL hence causing errors, b/c my CRviewer in my VB6 is for 8.5
What are my Options? Id like not have to upgrade my VB6 app to CR XI at this point.
    Thank you in advance.

Only if your projects use the DSRs. If you are loading the report from path, you are just fine. BTW., there are changes to runtime deployment. You can not use the VB Deployment and Packaging Wizard anymore. You must use the RDC merge modules. These can be downloaded from here:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006255302008E/crxir2sp3_rdc_mm.zip
Also, seeing as you are upgrading from CR 8.5, there have been significant changes to the database engine and the following should be kept in mind:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/00635998-751e-2b10-9cba-f50ee1e4ef81
And finally, CR XI r2, is the last version of CR to include the RDC. The RDC has been retired in CR 2008, which is the currently shipping version of CR. This may have implications for you re. lifetime of the app, etc (Just an FYI). More info re the RDC is here:

  • Basic application deployment specific questions

I have some questions related to application deployment. Following this tutorial, I am able to create an executable 'jar' file and deploy it to another computer. So the basics work for me, however ...
    1.
In order to make the application running on different computer, I manually need to copy ~8 specific files (firebird database dll's) in directories like:
    c:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin
    c:\Windows\system32
If i do so, everything works fine. I did not test this yet, but I believe, IzPack software will be able to help me with this. The problem is, how do I set the destination path for those files on destination computer? This path can vary on different computers, so this path can't be hardcoded. Besides, is it normal to place application specific files into those directories?
    2.
My application uses relative references to files, e.g.:
    static String DATABASE_FILE_NAME = "software.fdb";
static Database _firebirdDB = new Database(DATABASE_FILE_NAME);If i execute application like this:
c:\myApplication\java -jar "NameOfJar.jar", I get a bunch of exceptions, because my database file 'software.fdb' can't be located.
If I however execute application like this:
    c:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe -jar "NameOfJar.jar", then everything works all-right.
Obviously, my application depends on current working directory, when it's executed. How can I avoid this?
    Thanks for help in advance,
    Juraj

This may be silly question, but where can I find more information about 'installing complex applications with native libraries'? I even don't know, what to search google for ..
For instance, i have JAVA installed on my PC, but I don't have env. variable %JAVA_HOME% set. So I can't rely on this .. Really, the problem is that Java is designed to be platform-independent, but you're trying to use dlls which are native to each platform. To get the platform independence, Java generally doesn't know about any native libraries. If you have an application which depends on them, it's your responsibility to [get them to a place where Java can find them|http://www.inonit.com/cygwin/jni/helloWorld/load.html].
When you have a standard installer for an application, it's making sure the libraries are in the right place. If they aren't, it has to find a way to put them there. Sometimes the app will just keep a copy in its own directory, so that it doesn't have to install it into an OS directory. The setup.exe program is specially designed to handle this kind of thing on Windows.
Java, on the other hand, doesn't know you're on Windows. It could care less. All it knows is that it has Java code, and it's running in a JVM. If you explicitly tell it to load a system library, it does it and you can access it with JNI. But it still couldn't care less that you're on Windows.
Like I said, I've worked with packages that are mostly Java but have some native code. Usually, what it comes down to is the installation instructions saying, "Put this DLL in the Java path." Sometimes they have a nice little installer that does it for you, or can try to use JAVA_HOME and asks you where to put it if it can't find it. But you are absolutely right -- you can't rely on it because Java doesn't care you're on Windows. You should have JAVA_HOME from the Java installer, but it really doesn't care. It's your responsibility to package it in such a way that it works.
    3.
It is a bit strange, anyway. Normally, when I see application packages, I see something like 'setup.exe' bundled with dozens of 'dll's' .. Is it correct to put everything under 'jar'?Setup.exe is a Windows executable to install Windows programs. Java doesn't care that you're on Windows, so it offers JAR, an executable package format. There are some tools to make it easier for delivery on a particular platform, but I've never used them.

  • Oracle Application Server Release 2 (10.1.2) Deployment Notes question

    Hi!
I'm following the Oracle Application Server Release 2 (10.1.2) Deployment Notes (http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/deployment_topics006.htm) for deploying an application, built in Jdeveloper 10.1.3 to AS 10.1.2. I have a question about Configuring JDeveloper to Generate Configuration Files That Are J2EE 1.3-Compliant. Do I need all the files in table 34-3? (http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/deployment_topics006.htm#CIHHBJAI)
I already have some of these files. Can I change the version of existing files or do I need new ones? How can I change the version of existing files?
Here are the headers of some of these files:
    web.xml: (Here I probably just change version="2.4" to version="2.3")
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1250'?>
    <web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
             xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd"
             version="2.4" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee">
orion-application.xml: (Is version="10.0" the version I need to change to "1.2"?)
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <orion-application xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
                       xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.oracle.com/technology/oracleas/schema http://xmlns.oracle.com/oracleas/schema/orion-application-10_0.xsd"
                       version="10.0"
                       xmlns="http://www.oracle.com/technology/oracleas/schema">
data-sources.xml.xml: (This file has only XML version, I don't believe this is the version I need to change)
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1250'?>I only have these three files from the table in my application. Do I need application.xml and oc4j-connectors.xml too?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Upgrading to  Mountain Lion Pre Install Questions

    HI:
I will be installing Mountain Lion Next week.
I have read through many of the turotrials and quired most of the following  I still have a few questions.
I have some concerns in particular regarding the contents of my mail boxes and mail.
I have backed up unto an external harddrive using time machine. When I click on the mail app I can't access it and see if the contents are there. I just get a window showing the specs.
From what I have read all my documents applications and system info are backed up.
1} Will the contents of Mail Inbox and personal Mail Boxes be either on the external drive or in Mail itself after I upgrade?
2} Will I need to up grade iWork  and other Mac programs after the upgrade?
3} Does time machines automatic backup, back up everything or do I need to do a manual back up for some thing?
4} Will I need to load new drivers for external devices such as my printer and mouse?
5} Will I need to reload third party soft ware such as Adobe Elements 9?
6} Will my bookmarks and homepage be saved in Safari?
Lot's of Questions, I have limited broad band width and will need to do most of this from a friends and internet cafes so I need to be prepared time wise and finanancialy as some things will have to be done at home and are going to push me into the next teir of my flex plan, possibly past the final teir.
Any and all advice will be appreciated.

    1. You have a backup of your mailboxes in Time Machine that you can restore, but Mail won't modify your mailboxes during the upgrade. The first time you open Mail after the upgrade, it will upgrade your mailboxes to be able to work with that new version.
    2. If you upgrade from Snow Leopard, you should know that there's a newer iWork '09 version for Lion and Mountain Lion that make it compatible with iCloud, so you will have to install updates for iWork at least. Respecting to other apps, you have to consult it with the developer.
    3. Time Machine makes a backup of everything in your OS X partition, and it makes automatic, hourly backups. If you want, you can also make a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner or Disk Utility's Restore feature in another external disk. The advantage is that you can start the Mac from it.
    4. Theoretically, Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion use the same printer drivers. Respecting to the mouse, if you are using a third-party mouse, you have to consult with the developer if your mouse is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion.
    5. Third-party apps won't be deleted unless they aren't compatible. See > http://www.roaringapps.com
After downloading OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend you to make a bootable copy with Lion Diskmaker, so you won't have to download OS X Mountain Lion each time you have to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion

  • Bootcamp and Windows XP/7 Install Questions

I got an iMac a few months back and want to set up BootCamp for a Windows install.
I have a Windows XP Full install disk w/the product key.
I also have a Windows 7 Upgrade disk.
From what I have read, the newest version of Bootcamp will not install XP, which I could then upgrade to W7 (I assume this is correct).
Can I then install from the Windows 7 Upgrade disk and at some point indicate the XP Product Code?
Secondary question - assuming I get Windows installed and running properly, if I boot to the Mac OS, can it see/access the Windows partition?
    Thanks,
    Steve

If the Windows 7 Upgrade is a full install. What you would do is install, then reinstall over itself. And only then will it activate.
There are upgrades that are to go from Home Premium to Pro and that isn't a full install.
Windows 8 CP is free and works.
Windows 7 System Builder are $99 for Home Premium 64-bit

  • Hard drive install question

I want to install a second hard drive in my HP dv7-6c95dx. the main drive that is in it now is a,
750GB 5400RPM hard drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
I want to put in a second drive (the one above) for a total of 1.5TB of hard drive storage. ok now my question,
is the "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection" a gimmick or does it really work? should i just get a drive of the same brand and forget about the "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection"? I want to get the exact matching drive but HP wants $256 for it (ouch!),
and that does not include the cable. is it worth the extra $130 or so for the matching "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection"?
Or should i just get a matching brand hard drive and forget about the "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection"?

    Hi,
Sorry, I should have been clearer on this, I meant that you should physically check the drive currently installed in your notebook.
    Best regards,
    DP-K
