Designer documentation

I am new to Oracle Designer. Is there a good guide that explains the product in detail from concept to how-to for 10gR2? I did not find anything except install guides, release notes, and bug fixes at oracle.com. I am specifically trying to understand the table "API"s and why there are 12 triggers being generated for each table. I am unclear as to whether these are necessary or just being accepted as a pre-configured default.

I think that what you are suggesting is that I modify the 'ID' columns once transformation is complete, whilst I'd prefer to find a way to prevent the creation of sequences during the DDT.
If all else fails, I can always 'force delete' the sequences on completion of the DDT.

Architectural/design documentation required for Self Service Expenses application

I'm looking for architectural/design documentation on the Oracle Applications Self Service Expense Reporting application.
Specifically I'd like to know how it was designed & architected, what technologies were used to develop it (e.g. CABO, B24J, Oracle Workflow, AQ etc.) and how these technologies interact to form the final system.
We have a product called the Oracle Migration Workbench. It is a standalone java-based application that facilitates the migration of non-Oracle databases over to Oracle9i. We're investigating the possibility of developing a web-based migration capability. Of course we appreciate that moving from a tool-based, single user solution to a web based, multi user solution is not a trivial task.
Seeing that you guys would have already tackled many of the challenges we face I'd appreciate it if you can provide me with any pertinent information.
Any white papers/architectural collateral you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thorough Chart Designer documentation available? (and/or a question answered)

Today I found out about Chart Designer from Ray Camden's web site. I'm trying to get myself up to speed quickly for a project I'm trying to complete and I'm looking for any more thorough documentation than is found through the PDF that is available with the CF Server install or the WebChart web site.
I have an existing chart being generated via CF and want to know if I can access and modify it through Chart Designer or do I have to start from scratch.

Crystal Reports Design Documentation

Does anyone have a good MS Word template for documenting a Crystal Report design?

Before or after the report is done??
Either way, I'd start with a brief description of the purpose of the report and a "management overview" level of the data shown. I'd then follow it with a page of the report (if it's complete). Following that, the source of the data, followed by calculations performed whose results are not shown, followed by a list of the columns the report has with complete descriptions, followed by grouping and subtotals, followed by parameters with a complete description of each, followed by non-parameterized record and/or group selection, followed by any other special information (hiding columns conditionally, whatever...). Obviously, the order of the sections might flow better if rearranged... or not...

Software Dev/Design Documentation

Does Sun have any standards/conventions for documenting (i.e System Requirements, Functional/Tehcnical Design, Use Cases, etc.) kinda like the way they have a standard for code formatting?
My guess is that they don't since there is no forum/discussion here for documentation. But I figured I'd ask.

This is is really a software architecture question rather than a Java programming question. Sun does use Javadocs, but only to document code/API level stuff. Designing & Documenting A Flex Application

I'm starting work on an application that will eventually be
handed over to someone else that is not that familiar with Flex. I
would like to make sure that my documentation is clear on exactly
how all of the pieces fit together.
Can anyone recommend tools they use to document the design of
their applications?

Design Documentation

Dear Friends,
We have a few consultants who are working on portal content development on our project. We would like to capture the design that has been done accurately so that any new employee who may start work on the system would be able to understand the design. One approach some customers use is to use the same logical structure that OPA uses to define the rules in a visual tree form. This is not a decision tree (where the decsions are at the leaves), rather it is the same top-down "this decision is reached if..." structure, where for each node the children are connected with either "and"s or "or"s. These forms then translate easily into the actual rule documents, and it has the advantage of "poking holes" just as effectively as it would if you were actually modeling the rules in OPA.
Another approach that works well is to co-develop the rules in a more agile fashion with the policy expert and rule author working side-by-side. Then there is no intermediate step.
In this case, it's also easier to capture test cases with expected results as you go.

Notification Template Design Documentation?

Hello--
Is there any documentation for the substitution string syntax in notification templates? The reason I ask is I am not seeing the fields I would like to display in the template (such as choosing the Affected User's email address).
Also, when I add a field I see $Context/Property[Type='CustomSystem_WorkItem_Library!System.WorkItem']/Id$ instead of $Context/Property[Type='WorkItem!System.WorkItem']/Id$
Can anyone explain the CustomSystem_WorkItem_Library class instead of the standard WorkItem library?

take a look at the top of your MP, you should see a reference block that looks something like this:
<Reference Alias="CustomSystem_WorkItem_Library">
<ID>System.WorkItem.Library</ID>
<Version>7.5.1561.0</Version>
<PublicKeyToken>31bf3856ad364e35</PublicKeyToken>
</Reference>
if the Alias property was "WorkItem", then your second reference would be valid.

Embed design documentation refs into teststand sequences

I've always thought TestStand sequences would map really well to
aerospace types of test procedures; the sequences would read
almost like the document. I've finally got a chance to try it out!
I want to embed paragraph numbers from a written procedure or System
Design Document into my client sequences (and maybe into the pm). Has
anyone done this, FDA jobs maybe? Options: 1) Put the paragraph #s in
the step names 2) create custom step types with a "Doc Reference"
property, 3) misuse some existing property like Step.Result.ReportText
or Step.TS.PreExpr, 4) both step name and property?
I guess the step name is the obvious choice, just wondering if there were any advanced considerations.

I've seen the comment field used for this kind of embedded information
in steps. I think that would be your best bet for making this
information visible in your client sequences.
There is a possibility that we will add a field to save this kind of information, so keep an eye out for it in future versions!
