Designjet 600 Plotter connected to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Will it work? HP sales says won't work.

I have an old Designjet 600 Plotter (model C2848A).  I have connected it to several new PCs over the years with great success (using different OS, Win 95, 98, etc..  It still works great using windows XP.  Now I have three new stations using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.  HP sales tells me this plotter will no longer work with Windows 7 (and want to sell me a new plotter).  I find that hard to believe.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  I was going to try buying a 36 pin parrallel to USB connector and just plug it into my new PCs.  But HP said it won't work so I have not tried.  I assume I would need a driver for that to work correctly.  Any suggestions???

For 64 bit systems you can download the XP x64 drivers from here, then unzip the files into a new folder.  Next go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, select the proper port, then select "Have a Disk" and point to the folder where you unzipped the files.
USB to Parallel converters can be problematic.  If you get one make sure it is supported on Windows 7 x64.  The models in the posts here have been indicated to work with W7 x64.
I do not know if the Designjet 600 has a slot for an optional jetdirect card, if so this may be a better option.  I picked up a suitable jetdirect card for my Designjet 650c on eBay for under $15 (shipping included) and have it running on the network here.
This forum is focused on consumer level products.  For the Designjet you may have better results posting in the HP Designjet forum here, the real Designjet experts hang out there.

  • Previously working Windows 7 Pro 64 bit will no longer boot

Came in this morning and the Mac side of things was showing on my monitors. When I left last night it was in Windows. Tried to reboot into windows and after using option to bring up the boot choices in start up I clicked on windows. Nothing happens, or rather I loose control of the mouse and keyboard but it never boots into Windows. Tried setting the boot camp partition as the startup disk same thing. Put the Win 7 Pro disk in optical drive and selected it on restart and it does the same thing. It appears to try to boot but nothing hapens. The screen remains at the choose disk display. The only way to get out of it is to hard reset.
I have not done any thing to the partitions or really anything I can think of that might cause this. I have been using this configuration for over a year now with no issues.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

I've had PCIe controllers in my Mac Pro and PC prevent booting, Once a corrupt Windows boot drive (not even the main Windows drive but on one of the SATA ports nonetheless) and could not boot.
Windows immediately after boot when I put it in said it needed repair and went ahead and did so. Now that is something Mac will not do.
I tested it thoroughly with WD Lifeguard to insure no bad sectors or issues with the drive (healthy and did full format and extended tests)
Removing anything attached is a whole lot easier. Glad you found it.
    Those symptoms say "hardware" -
Put the Win 7 Pro disk in optical drive and selected it on restart and it does the same thing. It appears to try to boot but nothing hapens.

  • Problems with the (WINDOWS 8 pro -64 BIT) IN THINKPAD L520 - 5016 RL2

I have some problems with the (WINDOWS 8 pro -64 BIT) is not working properly IN THINKPAD L520 - 5016 RL2.
    1. Message appears telling me that the drivers of the display  has been restored crash.
    2. The mouse pointer moves very slowly sometimes, and sometimes does not move for a while.
    3. Device software such as lenovo-airbag protection , lenovo-internet connection and lenovo web connection........ its  is not compatible with the system, and do not work.
    What is the solution؟

    Hi, MUJAHED
I have a few questions for clarification I would like to ask about your first two issues:
    1) Can you copy the contents of this message and respond back with them. Any error codes or direct quotation from the system can really help in diagnosing a problem.
    2) Does this only apply to the TrackPad, or does this behavior also occur with an external mouse? It may help to download the latest mouse drivers for your system, which can be found here.
As for your last issue with the Lenovo service not being compatible with the system: Unfortunately, software for these applications has not been released for Windows 8. Windows has its own network settings that you can use to connect to the Internet and networks, so that is still possible, though you may not enjoy it as much as Lenovo's program.
    Best,
    Adam

  • Acrobat Standard 8.17 AIP not running in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

    Hello,
I am trying to run an AIP that I created for Acrobat 8.0 (updated to 8.17) on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I created the AIP and then ran it on Win7RC (32-bit) and it installed fine. I have also tried this same AIP on Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and it works there.
When I try to run the same AIP on W7P x64, I get a flash of the command window and then a flash of the Adobe "Preparing to install" window and then both windows close and the installation terminates. Have tried it from the 32-bit command prompt (%windir%\SysWoW64\cmd.exe) but same failure.
Have moved the AIP package to the root of C: and run it - same failure.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the AIP to work in 64-bit?
    Thanks.

Hello - I have been able to get the AIP installed.
Turns out that the installation was hanging because a previous version of Acrobat was already installed. On other machines with Acrobat, I would get a window stating that I had to remove the old software but on W7 x64, the installation simply failed. After removing the old version and trying again, the new installation succeeded.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

  • I am using Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit on a brand new PC, and cannot connect to the iTunes store using iTunes version 10.  HELP!!

Ok, so after purchasing a new computer, with windows 7 pro, 64 bit, I tried downloading the newest iTunes, which at the time was 10.2.1 (i believe).  After installation, everything seemed to work, except that iTunes was unable to securely connect to the internet, use home sharing, or validate my computer.
As troubleshooting, I first ran msconfig, and then turned OFF all programs that boot at start up EXCEPT itunes and quicktime.  After a restart, i opened itunes again, and got the same result.  That led me to believe that iTunes was NOT being blocked by another program on my machine.  I am currently running itunes 10.7 successfully on a Windows 7 32 machine at work.  Anyhow, for grins, I tried to install version 9 on the new computer, and it installed perfectly, and immediately connected to the itunes store, leading me to believe that there is nothing wrong with my software configuration (not sure if this is a safe assumption or not).  I then tried to let iTunes update itself using the automated update function.  It tried to update itself to the most current version, then 10.6.  Again, iTunes was unable to connect to the iTunes store.  I HAVE tried disabling the anti-virus software (AVG), but that made no difference.
I have since gone back and reinstalled iTunes 9.  Here's the catch though.  When I reinstalled using version 9, I had to redo all my library files.  I'm about 1/2 way through my CD's, and now have a substantial library file going.  The last time I let iTunes update itself to 10.6, once I realized that it was not going to connect to the store, I uninstalled iTunes, and reinstalled ver. 9.  However, when I did this, it told me it could no longer open the library file, because it was a newer .itl or .xml (i believe it was one of those two extensions) library file.  At that point, I basically started everything over again, using version 9, and have been importing CD's like a madman at night.
    Here are my questions:
    1) Is there a way to make a copy of the files that store my library info, so that if my upgrade to ver 10 IS NOT SUCCESSFUL, I can restore ver 9, but still have all of the album art work, playlists (when I import music, I create a playlist with the artists' name, and store things that way), etc. in tact?
    2) What else can I try (firewall settings, internet options, etc.) to try and get version to to successfully install?  I would really like to get all the benfits of the newer versions.
    3) When I tried to get apple tech support before, they wanted me to pay a ridiculous 69$ fee for phone support.  I just bought an iphone 5....this should entitle me to a fresh 90 days of phone support, right?  The reason I ask here is that I could hardly understand the "tech" that answered the phone when I called for tech support last time, and to be honest, it really ****** me off that they wanted to try and milk me for another 69 bucks....I've purchased every iPhone since the 3Gs came out (pre-ordered at that), and have nearly gone broke purchasing music from their iTunes store....heck, maybe they're doing me me a favor not letting me into the store, huh?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated,
    -Brian

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store

  • USB MIDI not working in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

The problem is that even though my devices are recognized in Control Panel/ Sound and in Device Manager, no MIDI data actually flows and I cannot sync my keyboard to the Yamaha software that edits it.  The error message in the Yamaha software reads
“The following MIDI ports can not be opened at this time”.   At first, MIDI was working and I could sync up, but after about a week, right around the time I uninstalled and re-installed a MS Lifecam, it failed and has not worked since.
I have been working directly with Yamaha tech support on the issue for some time. I have a Yamaha SX70 XS keyboard, which is recognized by Windows as a connected USB device. It is self-powered, not powered by USB. I am using the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver version
3.1.2 for Windows 7 64-bit (the latest driver). And the latest versions of all their editing software for Win7 64-bit. They assure me that those work for other users of Win7 64-bit. In my case though, everything shows up in Windows, but MIDI doesn’t actually
work. And I cannot sync to the keyboard due to the above error message.
Yamaha tells me that their USB-MIDI driver is installing fine on my machine, except that it’s missing a windows driver at the bottom of the driver stack. (You can see this in Device Manager, Properties/Driver tab, then Driver Details. The missing driver
is ksthunk.sys, which I think handles kernel streaming. Sounds like that would relate to MIDI data. They have never heard of this driver not showing up there, and they cannot reproduce the problem. ksthunk.sys is on my machine in c:\windows\system32\drivers\
and in the registry the image path is \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\ksthunk.sys
All devices are “working properly” in Windows Device Manager, despite that missing driver. Yamaha MIDI Driver is shown in Control Panel/Sound, and it can be worked with there (opened, closed, configured, etc.).  I have also tried three different USB
cables (but those shouldn't be an issue since the keyboard is showing up in Windows).
I was also advised by Yamaha to edit registry key  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32  and remove all midi, midi1, midi2, etc entries, then uninstall and reinstall all drivers. Which I did, but it didn't help.
So far, no amount of re-installation, event viewing, uninstalling devices, numerous reboots, etc has fixed it. On this machine, that driver just doesn’t hook up to the Yamaha MIDI driver and show up in the stack.
So it looks like it may be a Windows 7 config problem on my machine, and I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice on how to fix it. The Microsoft forums contain a fair number of users reporting similar problems, some are audio and some are webcam
related. I've followed those threads, and done several of the suggestions, but haven't found a solution to this one.
This is a Dell XPS 8300 Windows 7 64-bit PC with all the latest updates, only about six weeks old. I've been struggling with the MIDI problem for most of that time.  I'm an IT professional (network and systems admin), so you can be fairly technical
    in your response.
Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

I am so glad I found keyman7's description, since I have exactly the same problem.
The problem is not related to MIDI output! I have it with a pure USB-MIDI-input device (keyboard), whichs produces "unknown externeal error" every time I try to select it as input. The same thing occurs with a USB-MIDI-Cable.
I compared the driver details from my system (Dell T1500 windows 7 pro 64 bit) with those of another windows 7 pro 64 bit. On that other system the device works like a charm (so it is not the hardware, either).
On the other system I find ksthunk.sys in addition to the modules that are listed on my system as well (beeing \windows\system32\drivers\drmk.sys, ..\prtcls.sys, ..\USBAUDIO.sys and \windows\system32\SysFx.dll, ..\WMALFXGFXDSP.dll).
Can it be some other USB driver is interfering with this driver stack? I have no idea how to figure out which one it could be. Or, it has been suggested in other threads with somewhat similar looking symptoms, ksthunk.sys has been removed as  UpperFilters
    entry?
    Help - please!

  • Windows 7 Pro 64-bit to be used as a terminal server

    Hello,
I'm looking at using a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit PC as a Terminal Server using an application such, as ThinStuff XP/VS (www.thinstuff.com), to manage the RDP connections.  Based on everything I've read, it looks like there's no Terminal Server CALs available
for purchase through MicroSoft, so is there a need to worry about licensing?  Each PC that connects will have it's own Windows 7 Pro valid license and, of course, the PC to be used is also valid.  Are there any licensing concerns I should have?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,
To set up a terminal server, I suggest to set up a windows server system, Since Windows 7 is a client operating system and I do not suggest to use a third part software to modify its roles, especially the role or function related to the license. As for your
license concern, you can refer to the license agreement below Select your product name, version and language:

  • Windows 7 Pro 64-bit:  Boot Campt or Parallels 6

I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Air (maxed out) and wanted to get some opinions regarding Windows 7 Pro (64-bit). Please tell me whether or not you are running Win 7 via Boot Camp or Parallels and why you chose that option over the other.
I'm currently in the process of installing Win 7 Pro on a USB flash drive but it's taking a little longer than anticipated. I'm thinking about going the Boot Camp option, but wanted to get some thoughts on it first.
    Thanks!

    MJMP1 wrote:
On my 27" iMac, I have Parallels 6 installed with Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) running off of an external hard drive. The external hard drive is connected to the iMac via FireWire 800. No real issues there.
I wanted to get a sense of how many people have attempted to install the Windows OS onto an USB flash drive. My concern was the potential performance difference between a FireWire 800 and a USB 2.0 connection.
This afternoon, I set up Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) on a USB flash drive to use with my 13" MacBook Air. I haven't installed all the required Windows updates yet (in the process of doing so), but the responsiveness of the Windows OS does seem a little sluggish.
I may be tempted to halt using Parallels 6 on my MacBook Air and shift to Boot Camp if there is a chance that it will run smoother/faster in environment. But the whole point of using the USB flash drive is to "conserve" as much of the MacBook Air's SSD space...
Is there a "Boot Camp how-to" on Apple's website? If so, could you direct it to me? Thanks!
Firewire 800 is twice as fast as USB 2.0 and USB is not continuous like Firewire, but bursty throughput. There are Bootcamp instructions in multiple places on Support (each machine I think). Bootcamp is either/or (OS X or Windows running at one time) unless you use it with Parallels. If Windows is installed on your SSD, it should scream

  • Windows 7 pro 64 bit can't see 3210xi all in one wired to router

for years I have been printing wirelessly to my 3210xi.  My old computer is a lenovo t60 with windows xp.  My 3210xi printer is wired by ethernet wire to my verizon fios router.  Using the software that came with the printer, I installed it as a wireless network printer.  this still works with my old computer.
I just bought a new computer, a lenovo t530 with windows 7 pro 64 bit.  I downloaded the latest software from hp and installed it including the upgrade patch.  The computer will not see the printer on the network.  I called HP support and the technician spent 2 hours on the phone with me and she could not fix the problem.
I am hoping someone on this forum has the answer.  Thanks

What I meant by extra, was a firewall other than the one included in the Windows operating system.
What I think is happening is that a service or program is blocking the HP installation software from seeing the printer's ethernet connection. My recommendation is to disable all of the start up services and then trying to install the software. I have included the steps below for disabling the start up services and software. Below that I have included the steps to re-enable these services after you have attempted to install the software.
Disabling Start Up Services and Software
    1. Click the Windows icon.
    2. Type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then press Enter. The System Configuration Utility window opens. NOTE: If the User Account Control window opens with the message, Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue to close the window.
If Normal Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:
         1. Select Selective Startup, and then clear the Load Startup Items check box.
         2. Click the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.
         3. Click Disable All.
If Selective Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:
         1. Click the Startup tab.
         2. Make a list of the items that are selected. You will need this list to reset your computer startup items later.
         3. Click the General tab.
         4. Clear the Load StartupItems check box.
         5. Click the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.
         6. Make a list of the items that are selected. You will need this list to rest your computer startup items later.
         7. Click Disable All.
    3. Click Apply.
    4. Click OK. A new window displays. Click Restart to continue.
    5. Upon restarting your computer, the System Configuration Utility window displays. Select the Don't show this message... check box, and then click OK.
At this point, you want to try and install the printers software again.
Re-enabling Start Up Software and Services
IMPORTANT: Follow these steps to re-enable your startup software. If you skip this step, your computer might not function the way that you expect.
    1. Click the Windows icon.
    2. Type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then press Enter. The System Configuration Utility window opens.
If you followed the instructions to disable a Normal Startup configuration (or if you want to return to that configuration), select Normal Startup.
If you want to customize the programs that run at startup, follow these instructions for a Selective Startup:
         1. Click the Startup tab.
         2. Select every item that is on your list of selected items for the Startup tab.
         3. Click the Services tab.
         4. Select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.
         5. Select every item that is on your list of selected items for the Services tab.
    3. Click Apply.
    4. Click OK. a new window displays.
    5. Click Restart to continue.
Try those steps and let me know if that resolves your issue.

  • Cannot install and use dell 1130n and hp 1022n in windows 7 pro 64 bit os for dell pc

HP driver list does not appear to offer printer driver online for windows 7 pro 64 bit os. Only win 7 64 bit is visible option on HP and verified PC is a wind 7 pro 64 bit os.  Is this why my installed HP 1022n printer will never  be able to print?  Tried plain win 7 64 bit os and dell pc  optiplex 380  but I got nothing.  No print.  the HP 1102n is default printer.  thoughts?

    Hi @dazed1 ,
I see by your post that you need the drivers for Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I would like to help.
I checked the website and there is a Full Feature and Basic driver available for Windows 7 64 bit.  HP LaserJet 1022n Printer Drivers. Did you try both of these drivers?
I would try and install the preinstalled Windows drivers, if you are having issues using the downloaded drivers on the site with your Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Run the Add a printer wizard from Devices and Printers.
You could also plug and play the drivers. Connect the printer to the computer and see if Windows will detect the printer and install the drivers automatically.
    Have a great day!
    Thank You.
