How to make a selective deletion in my desktop!
Hy guys!
There are any application to make a selective deletions of files and folders?
Each end of day i need to delete all files present in my Desktop, except the folders setted to be kept. You need to use some sort of criterion. Many exist, including:
tell application "Finder"
delete (every file of desktop whose name is not in {"file 1 to keep.txt", "file 2 to keep.jpg"})
end tell
No folders will be deleted by the script as written.

Can anyone help me? Does not matter if I use the version on disk or download the one from the site, I get the above message every time. I tried using 5.0 and it worked, but was daft enough to update when asked. Is there anything I can do? I am using XP on my Samsung V25 laptop.
Regards PaulSo here's how I fixed my issue.
Delete the Rim.Desktop.exception.log located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data
Run the application, it will crash with the error message above and create a new Rim.Desktop.exception.log file. Open it in notepad and look through it.
In my case the exception was this.
Exception message is: The current build operation (build key Build Key[Rim.Desktop.Shell.MyBlackBerryApplication, null]) failed: Could not load file or assembly 'Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManager, Version=6.0.2.44, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies
I followed the suggestion of renaming the file C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Modules\Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManger.dll to Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManger.dll.old
I then tried to lauch the application and it crashed, you must do this! renaming it back without this step will not work. Then I went back and renamed the dll file back to it's original name Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManger.dll and sure enough the application worked.
Must be some messed up reference somewhere, it's stupid and RIM should figure this out before releasing updates. Obviously your issue may be different but the exception.log file should point you in the right direction. -
Device won't show up on my desktop
Hi, everyone. I tried connecting my phone and my camera (individually at different times) to my Macbook Pro, but for some reason, neither device shows up on my desktop. I looked at my Finder preferences and "external disks" is checked off to show up on the desktop and on the sidebar. Neither device shows up under disk utility, but both of them show up on system profiler when I tried to connect them at separate times. I checked my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) and it says that it's connected as a media device, and when I connected my camera (Canon Powershot S90), my photos show up on iPhoto so I don't think it's really a problem with the removable devices I'm connecting to the computer. I'm not sure why my computer isn't showing either of these devices on my desktop because I've never had this problem before with either device on this particular computer.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!Hm...I've had my Canon camera for about 2 or 3 years now and every time I've connected it to my Macbook Pro, a new window pops up and it shows up on my desktop. This is the first time I haven't been able to find it anywhere on my desktop.
Also, I have an Android (not sure if that makes a difference) and again, I've connected it multiple times to this computer and every single time, it shows up on my desktop except this one time. -
ATTENTION: Desktop Manager Has stopped working - SOLVED
Hey everyone!
I've finally, finally solved a
problem I've been dealing with for the past month (since updating DM to the
latest version 6.x.35)
I have a BB Bold 9700 with OS 6.0.0.600 ( by the
way the issue is not related to the OS as I had the error prior to getting this
version).
The problem is that when opening DM, everything is fine AS
LONG as I don't connect my phone. As soon as I do, DM crashes with the dreaded
"DM has stopped working" message. I tried literally everything... Browsed many
forums and found onyl questions without answers... Turns out hundreds of BB
users faced the same problem on various BB models. Out of these I can honestly
say, only 2 managed to fix the issue they were facing.
To start with and
to help people identify if my issue is similar to the one they are facing, I'll
paste the issue as shown in :
Rim.Desktop.Exception.log

Now my problem is
that unlike other error logs posted by users on various forums, mine didn't show
what the issue was... There is a gap between the 1st and 2nd lines in the log.
In all error logs I saw, that missing line was supposed to hold details on the
issue. In my case, the "invalid directory name".
I tried
reinstalling DM without success and after seeing that so many people on the web
had given up considering RIM was not taking any action, I joined the club and
even made the decision not to buy the 9900 once it is released.
Finally
today, for some reason while working on resolving an issue in an application I
use at work, I decided to use a tool for trying to solve the DM crash... The
tool is Process Monitor (procmon.exe) and is an AMAZING tool to see exactly what
happens when you run any process (executable or others).
Granted it's
not very accessible and users who don't work in IT might not be familiar with
many terms/features in this tool, but I honestly don't think there is any other
way to identify the problem you're facing in DM.
In my case I noticed in
the captured activity of Process Monitor that there were two "path not found"
issues just before the activity related to writing into the error log started.
The 2 paths were :
F:\BlackBerry\system\Media Sync\xxxxx.system
C:\Users\Nicolas\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Media
Sync\<mypin>.settings
First path is on the blackberry itself
and in my case I had a file named "media sync" but no folder. I renamed that
file and created the folder with that name.
For the 2nd path, which was
very strange, I could not find a file matching my BB pin... There was another
one matching my wife's pin. I just took a copy of it and renamed it to my pin
number.
After these 2 adjustments I reopened DM and I got a message
that a new device had been detected. I did a few settings and my BB connected
successfully... No crash... I tried syncing, backup and everything seems to be
working fine now.
I hope this helps others in investigating the
issues they are facing. By the way in Process Monitor be sure to first access
the Filter options and select process name as : "rim.destop.exe"
This will
monitor ONLY the activity related to DM.Hi Nicolas81...
Thanks for the detail here. just to let you know, we have logged a bug with the Desktop Manager development team to have this fixed for the next version.
Cheers
M

RD Services vs. Remote Desktop?
RD Services is basically Remote Desktop except it allows multiple user sessions, correct?
Is there a way to make an end-user's experience more clean? Such as not showing Server Manager or Admin tools? If the user is not an admin, there are a number of ways to lock down things for a standard user. Or else you can simply perform the following:
You can do it by registry change
Do not open Server Manager at logon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Server Manager
0 to disable and open the window normally; 1 to enable and prevent the window from opening.
Do not open Initial Configuration Tasks at logon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Server Manager\oobe
0 to disable and open the window normally; 1 to enable and prevent the window from opening.
or you can use the following GPO:
“Do Not Display Server Manager Automatically at Logon”
under Computer Configuration/policies/Administrative templates/System/Server Manager.
Hope this helps.

Media files not showing in Palm desktop
I have done a successful sync between iMac and TX, and have Palm Desktop 4.2.1. Everything shows up in desktop except the media files (which were there with Palm Desktop using Windows XP on my old computer). I was able to transfer a photo from the Mac to the TX successfully. Why aren't the media files showing up in Palm Desktop?
Post relates to: Palm TX
This question was solved.
View Solution. The MAC version (4.2.1) of the Palm DT does not support media. However you can move photos as you have already seen by using the quick install tool.

How to make panel shown in all desktops razor-qt
I'm using razor-qt right now and I think it's worth to look closer at it. but currently I'm exepriencing problem with panel- why does it not show in every virtual desktop except first one? how to change it?
Razor-qt is quite new and I think you would have better luck asking here. http://groups.google.com/group/razor-qt?pli=1. Anyway, I think you have to create a new panel for each virtual desktop/workspace you have.

Blackberry Desktop manager won't start
I cannot get desktop manager to run on a Vista Business machine. DM appears in task manager but seems to hang and never appear. There are no error messages or events in any logs that I can find.
I have completely removed DM and clean up any remaining reg entries or files and re installed it but still no joy.
The user running it is a local admin.
Any ideas? So here's how I fixed my issue.

Desktop Manager 6.1.0b034 crashes w/ Bold 9900 since yesterday
Hi everyone,
I'd like to ask for your assistance in finding the source of my problem here.
I'm sitting on a Win XP SP2 Machine with above mentioned DM installed.
Everything (synching Lotus Notes calendar and my phonebook) worked absolutely well until yesterday.
Now, whenever I hook up the phone the DM will crash after trying to connecting to the device.
When the phone is disconnected it starts up fine and I can navigate all areas. Once the phone is connected, it'll try to connect and then simply close.
Any ideas, suggestions on how to procede (log files etc)? I already reinstalled DM twice.
Thanks in advance!

SOLVED: BB Desktop software crashes when device is connected
I had been having a problem where my desktop software crashed whenever I plugged in my Bold 9700 and I figured out a solution so I thought I would share it. FYI I'm using Blackberry Desktop Software v6.0.0.43 on Windows XP SP3.

I had tried uninstalling and reinstalling the desktop software to no avail. Finally I tried deleting the E:\BlackBerry\system\Media Sync\bbMusicSync.settings file from my Blackberry and still it did not work. The solution was that I had to delete the \Media Sync\ folder itself. I reinstalled BB desktop and plugged in my Blackberry and it all ran fine. You will have to set up all your sync settings and whatnot again. I hope this helps someone out.Thks for your quick reply. I cannot open any devices or apps in "my comptr" while playbook is plugged in. The screen greys and Windows stops responding. I can open "devices & printers" right click on BB cd drive then click on find new drivers. Windows says I already have most current drivers installed. I have an older laptop running Win XP. with no problems connecting to PB. My issue seems simular to those addressed in a later post by prochejr. This appears to be a Win 7 prob. Log in "trouble shooting" tells me application (BB desktop software) has incompatability issues with computer OS.
