Development management in SM40

Hello!
What is the best practice to manage developments in an implementation project  with SM as the central system. How it is to be done in a structured way like blueprinting, config management etc.. All I know is that the documents go in development tab in solar02.
Any advise/ sharing of your experiences is appreciated.
Thanks.
Mike

Failover ASA pairs are generally co-located as their inside and outside networks etc. are required to be the same. I suppose the thinking is if those are all present why not management too?

  • Problem utilizing Custom Development Management Cockpit

    Hi all,
i'm currently trying to use the Custom Development Management Cockpit. When i open a Clearing Analysis project from TA CNV_CDMC it tells me that i have activated the statistics collection for one system. When i try to select this system (via "Define Project Landscape") as the statistics systems, it tells me that the statistics collection is not active on this system. Therefore, i'm stuck here...
    Any hints would be appreciated.
    Greetings
    /Marc

Apply the composite/collective sap notes for CDMC 1348772 and 1456166. There is a fix in one of these collective notes for the problem.

  • Software Development Management- How?

    Hi There,
Does anyone know of a good way to manage software development (in
    Labview)?
I've been the only programmer in Labview at my company, so tracking
software changes wasn't too bad. We recently hired a couple of
engineers who also program Labview. Now we're at a point where there
are many versions of the same software springing up. No one here has
any knowledge of software management tools available (except a
spreadsheet program, and a magnetic marker board).
Any links or suggestions are welcomed.

A critical part of any source code management is the human level:
deciding which developer will touch what VIs! Then you choose a tool.
We use MS Visual SourceSafe and it works OK for 2 developers.
I've used it on my own for 3 years.
    Availabl
e standalone or as part of Visual Studio.
I also know people at a systems integrator (NI Alliance member) who use
it. They still use it for control of up to 20 developers' work.

  • A note on Setup Manager - Application Change Management Pack

    Hi All,
This is Mugunthan, Development manager for iSetup and Setup Manager. I am happy to begin my note with the launch of Application Change Management Pack 3.1. For those who are not aware of Application Change Management Pack, it is a new product built on top of Oracle Enterprise Manager and comprises of three major modules namely Setup Manager, Customization Manager and Patch Manager. You can find more information about this pack here (LCM: Oracle Application Change Management Pack Setup Manager is enhanced and advanced version of iSetup on Oracle Enterprise Manager. There were good amount of reasons to re-architect iSetup on Oracle Enterprise Manager as Setup Manager.
    Why Setup Manager?
Ability to migrate to data over point releases of EBS – EBS comes up with rollup patches on top of major releases periodically. It means that you have to certify the patch before it get deployed on to production which means that setup data are to be certified again. iSetup cannot connect between 12.0.4 to 12.0.6 or 12.0.6 to 12.1.1. We have achieved the data migration for above scenarios in Setup Manager (11i to R12 is not supported in Setup Manager)
Projects – Setup Manager supports grouping of Extracts, Transforms, Loads and Reports as a single entity and can be deployed multiple times to multiple targets. The project consists of one or more tasks (of type Extract/Load/Transform/Report) and can be orchestrated according to your ends. Project execution supports scheduling which means that you can use this feature to sync up setup data between two instances at periodic internal. Projects can be shared with other users which is remarkable difference between iSetup and Setup Manager. You can share your projects with others in a combined development environment. The functional configuration data (Extracts) are stored in Oracle Enterprise Manager. This means that you can refresh EBS without losing Extracts.
Integration with Change Approval mechanism – Execution of projects is integrated with change approval mechanism which means that you can control who executes what. Also, you have fine grain access control where you can control EBS targets assigned to a user.
Offline Transformation – I would say this is the most unique feature of Setup Manager and as an implementer you would welcome this feature very much. iSetup has got very limited capability on Transformation. Here we have gone way ahead and support Transformation on almost all Setup Objects. We present you the extracted data in excel sheets. You can download the excel template and work offline. All the attribute value fields in the excel sheet are editable which means that you supply your own value. For example, you can download Operating Unit data in xls file and change operating unit “OU100” to “OU200” and upload it back to system and load to target instance. Please note that any attribute of Operating Unit setup data can be edited. Also, system has got intelligence and once you upload the excel sheet, it automatically changes all the inventory organization which belongs to “OU100” to “OU200”. This behavior can be controlled using attribute mapping which you can create in Setup Manager. Hold on, this is not the end, also you can add more operating unit in excel, say OU300 and OU400 and load it to target instance. You can delete few Operating Units from extracted data in excel sheet and load the remaining to target instance. This gives you complete flexibility to manage (add/edit/delete) functional configuration data offline. This is fantastic feature and please have a look at how it works.
Advanced Filtering – Filter support in iSetup is not flexible where you cannot use comma separated values and complex sql join conditions. Also you do not know what query is executed behind the scenes to the data. All this problems are addressed in Setup Manager 3.1. We show you the “select clause” (SQL) associated with interface and provide you a text field where you can refer the select clause and provide your own custom where criteria (SQL). This means that filter support is unlimited and you can set filter any database columns. For example, you can extract “Responsibilities/Menu” which are active or created as on yesterday. You can extract all Operating Units excluding “OU100 and OU200”. We support all filter criteria that are supported by SQL.

    Hi,
your note very interesting. Is there any other way to extract the configuration using SQL? not using Enterprise Manager? hope this will be fastest way then using GUI base.
    Thanks,
    Fahmi Fahlevi

  • Software / class management

    Hello,
i have done one project in lvoop :   a T° calibration software
now i have another one with humidity but software are used separatly
I see i could reuse most of the first one but i don't know how to manage it :
    1) i can use the same project but softwares are distinct and T° classes and devices linked to will be loaded for nothing
or maybe i could load them dynamically but   for the moment it isn't the case
    2) or creating a differente project so how can i reuse classes used in the first one
and how to do when changing class parametes or functions. how to have shared classes
i think the first solution could be the best way but as i am new to sofware management
i would like to collect points of view of experimented developers
What do you think about ?

    Hi tinnitus,
It is quite hard to answer your
    question....
In fact usually in Object Oriented you should think about the
maintenance and upgradability of your application.
What I can suggest you is
to create a general class (the parent class) then different children depending
what type of measurement or sensor you use. Then you can implement your code
using Dynamic Dispatch (the VI Server for LVOOP ;-). So your code will
automatically invoke the proper method depending the class he's got as input.
Using this approach you can have a very generic top level VI calling
    dynamically the class children.
    A dynamic dispatching subVI
has some small overhead when LabVIEW looks up which subVI to invoke. The
overhead is constant. It does not increase as you add more classes or as you
add more dynamic VIs to a class. There can be a performance hit if the subVI
call has to make extra copies of the parameters to match the functionality of
the actual subVI LabVIEW invokes. You can avoid this by wiring the input front
panel terminals to output front panel terminals even on dynamic VIs that you
never expect to call (for example, parent VIs that exist only to
define the connector pane for children to override). You can also use Data By
Reference in you class to optimize memory management.
Feel free if you have any
    further question.
    upgradability

I will be more than glad to help you here.

    Development Manager
CLM - Solution manager team, Labs India.

    Hello Raghev,
we implemented unfied job monitoring on a larger scale by now, starting out with the monitoring of SAP Standard & Reorg Jobs.
Everything seemed quiet OK at the beginning, but over time display performance of the Monitoring UI decreased drastically (exceeding 5 Min. "per click" in the UI).
I pinned this down to the following (Oracle) SQL access:
      SELECT
      "CLIENT", "CONTEXT_ID", "TYPE_ID", "HASH_METRIC_PATH", "START_TIMESTAMP", "IS_CURRENT", "END_TIMESTAMP",
      "METRIC_PATH", "RATING_AGGREGATE", "VALUE_MIN", "VALUE_MAX", "VALUE_SUM", "VALUE_COUNT", "VALUE_LAST",
      "VALUE_DATA_TYPE", "VALUE_MAX_TIME", "LAST_TEXT"
    FROM
      "MES_DB_AGGREGATE"
    WHERE
      "CLIENT"=:A0 AND "CONTEXT_ID"=:A1 AND "TYPE_ID"=:A2 AND "IS_CURRENT"=:A3 OR "CLIENT"=:A4 AND
      "CONTEXT_ID"=:A5 AND "TYPE_ID"=:A6 AND "IS_CURRENT"=:A7 OR "CLIENT"=:A8 AND "CONTEXT_ID"=:A9 AND
      "TYPE_ID"=:A10 AND "IS_CURRENT"=:A11 OR "CLIENT"=:A12 AND "CONTEXT_ID"=:A13 AND "TYPE_ID"=:A14 AND
      "IS_CURRENT"=:A15 OR "CLIENT"=:A16 AND "CONTEXT_ID"=:A17 AND "TYPE_ID"=:A18 AND "IS_CURRENT"=:A19
The execution plan used for this SQL is:
    0
    SELECT STATEMENT
    1
    INLIST ITERATOR
    2
TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID MES_DB_AGGREGATE
    3
    INDEX RANGE SCAN  MES_DB_AGGREGATECU
MES_DB_AGGREGATE in our case has over 5 million entries.
The parameterization of the DB incl. Memory and all should be OK.
The index range scan simply takes that long.
This might be, because the MES_DB_AGGREGATECU index has the lowest cardinality column (CLIENT) first.
    Header 1
    Header 2
    COLUMN_NAME
    NUM_DISTINCT
    CLIENT
    1
    CONTEXT_ID
    433
    TYPE_ID
    2192
    IS_CURRENT
    2
Could you have your team check on this, because with the situation as is, the Job Monitoring application seemingly becomes non-usable, as soon, as you start to scale up.
    Best Regards,
    Thorsten

Please help me out from this problem.
    Regards,
    kiran

    Kiran,
Are you having this issue on instance or on a run through Jdev? If its on instance, then either your setup is wrong or it might be some issue with the seeded code. So my suggestion will be to first check through the product implementation guide and then recach support because even if your setup is wrong, you should get a meaningful error message and not an unhandled exception.

Apple typically does not make such information public. In general most inquiries are routed through the institution's local Apple account executive.
