Dialin to HWIC-3G-GSM
Hi,
I want to use a HWIC-3G-GSM for remote dialin connection. My configuration looks like this:
interface Cellular0/3/0
ip address 192.168.1.19 255.255.255.0
encapsulation ppp
dialer in-band
dialer-group 1
async mode interactive
dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit
line 0/3/0
no exec
transport input all
rxspeed 236800
txspeed 118000
I assume that I need a chat-script, but I cannot find anything for dialin. All chat-scripts try to dialout to provide backup connectivity for a wan failure, but this is not my scenario.
Does anyone know what for AT commands need to be passed to the modem to setup dialin? At the moment, my dialin attempt looks like this (debug chat + ppp nego)
Router#telnet 192.168.1.19

Losing GPRS connection on HWIC-3G-GSM
Hi,
I have configured Cisco 2801 with HWIC-3G-GSM to work as a GPRS router.
The configuration is:
chat-script gsm "" "atdt*99***1#" TIMEOUT 60 "CONNECT"
chat-script pin "" "at+cpin=xxxx"
interface Cellular0/1/0
ip address negotiated
ip virtual-reassembly
encapsulation ppp
dialer in-band
dialer pool-member 1
dialer-group 1
async mode interactive
ppp chap hostname ""
ppp chap password 0 ""
interface Dialer1
ip address negotiated
encapsulation ppp
dialer pool 1
dialer idle-timeout 0
dialer string gsm
dialer persistent delay initial 20
dialer-group 1
access-list 1 permit any
dialer-list 1 protocol ip list 1
line 0/1/0
script startup pin
script dialer gsm
no exec
rxspeed 236800
txspeed 118000
Normally it works fine, but when the signal level is very low it stops to respond. So this is normal, but when the signal is back again, the connection is still lost, or more specific, in my eyes the router (dialer?) doesn't know that the connection is lost.
The test scenario looks like this:
- ping 172.16.1.1 repeat 500
- ping response is received
- I'm disconnecting an antenna
- pings stops working
- connecting back the antenna
- pings are still not working, and all I can do is just to reboot router
I think that it might be a problem with interoperability with a specific GSM carrier.
I have checked what is going on with modem during this test and it looks like this:
- before test

Current firmware for HWIC 3G-GSM
Hi all
I am trying tu update the firnmware of a HWIC 3G-GSM within an 1841.
What is the correct firmware?
I have tried
K2_0_7_35 and K1_0_2_18 from
http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/go/Model.x?mdfid=281295483&mdfLevel=Sub-Category&treeName=Wireless&modelName=Cisco%203G%20Wireless%20WAN%20%28GPRS%2FEDGE%2FUMTS%2FHSDPA%29%20High-Speed%20Wan%20Interface%20Card&treeMdfId=278875243
and I have also tried
F1_2_3_22 from
http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/go/Model.x?mdfid=282745088&mdfLevel=Sub-Category&treeName=Wireless&modelName=Cisco%203G%20Wireless%20WAN%20%28GPRS%2FEDGE%2FUMTS%2FHSDPA%2FHSUPA%29%20Interface%20Card&treeMdfId=278875243
But whenever I issue
microcode reload cellular 0 1 gsm modem-provision
I get
Modem returned following error to Download Start Request:Wrong image for this product
So what might be wrong here?
Thanks for any hint,

Did you extract the firmware before the upgrade? archive tar /xtract source-url destination-url
Can you post the log of the whole process?
Do you have the same results with a H firmware, for example H1_1_9_33 ?
Cheers

LarryLarry,
According to the below link, you need to be runing 12.4(15)T or later for the router to recognize the HWIC. So upgrade to at least 12.4(15)T and see if it gets recognized.

Wwan 3G/4G 4G LTE HWIC VPN (with dynamic ip)Configuration assistance
Hello All
I have a customer that has several sites all over the world and they want to use 3G and possibly 4G (where available) as a backup vpn solution.
I need some assistance/ guidance in configuring the cellular radio and configuring the vpn (dynamic ip)to work over the wwan.
Countries involved are France, Spain, Australia, Thailand and Malaysia.
I understand that I will need the APN credentials from the service provider. Is this normally the same for 3g and 4g?
Do I get chat scripts from them to?
My vpn gateway in the HQ is a Cisco multi-context asa so I can't configure remote access. Can I possibly use the 1921 as a hardware client?
I have seen the following urls. One has the 3g router as a remote access vpn but I guess this won't work in my scenario.
The other is between ios router and asa which I think will work. I don't need nat on the 3g/4g router but will I need

i want to send sms from gsm modem to a j2me application, for this to happen i have to send sms to a specific port in which j2me application is running.when i m trying to send sms from modem it doesnt go to application it goes to inbox.
is it related to udh settings if yes then how do i set port no in settings?if no what are the other ways.Hi Vignesh,
Might be you can call ActiveX or DLL objects of the software installed for modem from LabVIEW, if it is unblocked.

Is it possible to automatically update presence status to busy in jabber mobile when the user is attending a gsm call?
I've been testing with jabber for iPhone and it doesn't work...Single DN only I'm afraid. Multi-line is on the roadmap but I can't speak to a timeline.

Snow Leopard and GSM Modems (Vodafone)
I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but I'd like to share my experience with GSM (GPRS/3G) modems and Mac OS X. The main reason for doing this is the fact that I wasn't able to find any related information for my issues on the web and I think I'm not the only one with those issues. Feel free to post any feedback here
Few months ago I started using a 3G modem with my Macbook Air. The service provider is Vodafone and the modem is incorrectly marketed by Vodafone on the web as a Huawei device (E169), but it is a ZTE K3656-Z modem (I'm not sure if the companies are different or if the hardware is, in fact, different, but the kernel module is definitely different :D).
The first thing that annoyed me is the Vodafone Mobile Connect application. The 'response time' between plugging in the modem and actually getting online is quite big, and I really wanted to get it out of my way. I'm not using any SMS functionality, so from my point of view, the application was totally pointless. When you plug in the modem, it acts as an external CD Drive. If the Vodafone Mobile Connect application is installed, it will automatically eject (unmount) the drive. Unfortunately,
this usually (not all the time, but quite often) generates a crash in diskutil (quite annoying).
But what annoyed me the most, was the fact that, when online, the Vodafone application was taking at least 35% of my CPU. Now, this is unacceptable Under normal load (Safari, Adium), this was quite acceptable. But under slightly higher load, the CPU was getting quite hot, causing the kernel_task to try to slow down the system (and cool down the CPU) by taking about 135% of CPU (according to Activity Monitor) and making the system unusable. Of course, another side effect was the cooler running at 6400 RPM, faster battery drain and generally, making the system quite unusable. My 1st Generation Macbook Air wasn't able to deal with all that
When I first saw the high CPU usage by the Vodafone application, I immediately thought of the old 56Kb WinModems Back then, it was quite a common practice to develop modems that would use the CPU to compress/decompress or process the data/sound in order to make the modem as cheap as possible, but inflicting a huge system slow down - Yes, I'm that old :P
Given that experience with those modems, I figured that the Vodafone application was somehow doing that as a 'user space module' Boy, was I wrong
So, this is what I did: First of all, you need to properly identify the GSM modem. In order to do this (no Terminal involved) is to set up connection using Vodafone Mobile Connect, then using the System Preferences, head over to Network and check the available interfaces (no, this is not a tutorial, but a guide :P ). You should see either a Huawei Modem or ZTEUSBModem/ZTEUSBATPort. Keep in mind the modem you have, then disconnect. At this point, you need to use the Vodafone application to change the PIN settings on your SIM card. Use the application (Preferences -> PIN) and disable PIN check. Now you can safely remove the Vodafone application
The second step is to install the proper modules/drivers/kexts for this. You can either get them from the web (at this point, you already know what modem you have) or you can use the packages located inside the Vodafone Mobile Connect application installer. To do this, simply use 'Show Contents' of the installer, then locate the packages (pkg) inside the Resources folder for your modem (the names are quite clear :P). Install that package and you'll have the modem drivers installed on your system.
Once the modem drivers are installed, when you connect the GSM modem, the external CD Drive will 'mount'. Eject it and wait a little bit (few seconds) until the SIM card is initialized and the modem is available. Go to System Preferences -> Network and add a new interface using ZTEUSBModem (not ZTEUSBATPort). Set it up as a Generic Modem, GPRS Modem and configure it with your provider settings (APN, username, password). Set the dial up number as *99# (you can find a lot of tutorials on the web about setting this up - the tricky part was installing the proper modules and disabling the PIN check). You may now connect.
The downside of this is the fact that you need to manually eject the drive when connecting the modem, otherwise you won't get the modem functionality, no SMS functionality and no PIN security.
The upside is a very quiet system (the fan runs at 2400 RPM as opposed to 6400 RPM), a fast one (I can't see any noticeable slow down at all) and better battery life time.
I'm not sure what is the effect on other systems, but my 1st Generation Macbook Air was totally unusable after few minutes of online time. Now it works perfectly
I really hope that this is useful for other people Feel free to ask any question, I'm aware that my 'tutorial' skills are quite poor :POh, I forgot to mention: This works both on Leopard and Snow Leopard (tested on both systems). I've used the modem drivers located inside the Vodafone Mobile Connect installer (I couldn't find any ZTE modem drivers on the web).

I am trying to get NAT working on a Cisco 2801 with HWIC-4ESW.
I have a 2801 that had a failed Fe0/1 port. The Fe0/1 port was used to give sub-interface Fe0/0.200 access to internet. We installed a HWIC-4ESW into the 2801. I have successfully moved the sub-interfaces ( 0/0.1 , 0/0.100 , and 0/0.200 ) from the Fe0/0 to the HWIC-4ESW. I have reconfigured the Fe0/0 to connect to my ISP. However, I cannot get traffic from vlan200 to pass to the internet over Fe0/0. I have a guest wireless network set for vlan 200. Clients get an IP address in the appropriate range (192.168.200.0), but they cannot get to the internet. Below I have included the results of "sh ip int brief" and some of the "sh run". I think that it is something simple, but I canot get it working.
Help would be appreciated.

Switch b/w edge and GSM on Blackberry Curve 9380
Hey few days back I bought Blackberry Curve 9380. Basically I'm new to Blackberry Universe.
Generally when I'm at home, I prefer to use GSM only coz I have Wi-Fi. But when I swtich off data usage, connect to Wi-Fi, the Browser and other internet applications say that they are unable to internet.
Also guide me how to switch b/w GSM & edge network...
Solved!
Go to Solution.First Your need BIS - Blackberry Internet Serives subscription from Vodafone IN, this is the unique feature which seperates other mobile devices from Blackberry.
Browser, Facebook, twitter and all other apps require BIS subscription. Only appworld will work in Wi-Fi mode.
You can change the Browser settings to Hotspot to work in wifi, but i think in OS 7 it will detect automatically.
if you have BIS subscription 3G is free. -
Global Service Monitor (GSM) Config
Hello all, I have recently configured GSM with the external monitoring services being in the U.S.
When I look at the monitor - Authoring>MP Objects>Monitors>Multi-URL Template (*Monitor Name*) it shows enabled is set to true.
However when I look at - Monitoring>Monitoring>Application Monitoring>Web Application Availability Monitoring>Web Application Status - The monitor does not have a check mark next to it.
When I look at - Monitoring>Monitoring>Application Monitoring>Web Application Availability Monitoring>Test State - none of the five external servers are checked and they all say "Not Monitored"
So I'm trying to figure out if it's enabled or not and if not where do I go to enable it? When I have setup internal (Non GSM) web tests they are just enabled so I'm not sure what's different with this one.
Thank you,
MattHi,
Would you please restart the health service on the external servers. And we may try to flush health service state and caches for those server.
In addition, have you followed the below link to install GSM:

How do I get Apple to unlock a Verizon unlocked 4s to use domestically on a GSM network?
I have 4 iPhone 4S's in my family. The contract with Verizon ended on December 5, 2013. Early in 2014 I requested from Verizon that all 4 iPhones be unlocked, which was done and confirmed by Verizon. However, subsequently I have learned that the Verizon unlocking only allows use on international GSM networks (which of course shows that the 4S is capable of GSM usage), and I want to be able to use them domestically. Apparently, Apple maintains a kind of Black list to restrict usage of the phone to the original domestic carrier. This is in contradiction to the "Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act", or S.517/Public Law 113-144, which went into effect August 1, 2014.
When I insert a active AT&T GSM SIM card into the 4S I receive the following notice:
The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information.

It's funny that you're totally misreading and understand that law. All it does is make it legal to 'jailbreak' your device. It doesn't force the wireless carrier to allow you to unlock the device under the normal means.
Previously, jailbreaking your device was illegal. Now, it's not. But it doesn't mean that the wireless carrier, or anyone else, has to provide assistance to you.
Show me where in that law that it states that a wireless carrier must assist you.
