    Any tips?

They should run fine... as a Diamond Plus comes with a Dual Core compatable BIOS.
You'll have to post back with some news when you get it together.... I have a 165 that needs a new home.
thanks for the reply, i kinda figured it might support it, as the M8N Diamond does (accordingto the cpu support list) but MSI's site doesn't seem to have much info about the K8N Diamond plus, not even a single bios upgrade or anything.
I have an ASUS A8N32-SLI but i have 3 issues with it:
    1) can't install vista 5270 - common problem, not just me
    2) poor pci slot location when using 2 pci-express dual width gfx cards
    3) only available pci slot shares an IRQ with 2nd gfx card, bad for sound cards
I was going to order one this weekend but i might just not bother now as someone else posted the xfi cards don't work with them (popping/crackling, just like i have now) and that was my main motivation for getting rid of my asus board as my xfi card doesn't work either.

  • MSI 7220 (Diamond Plus) and 7800GT/7900GT issue

So I bought the Diamond Plus and the MSI NX7800GT a few weeks ago.  Everything set up fine, no problems.  I start playing some games, mostly City of Heroes/Villains, and I notice a graphics issue.  Objects in the distance are "Z-fighting".  It looks as if the Z-buffer's precision is low.  I have tried AquaMark3 and I get the same issue, low z-buffer precision.  So I sent the video card back, got an EVGA 7900GT.  I still have the same exact issue, which never gets better/worse, the problem is always exactly the same.  I have tried the card in both PCIe 16x slots and have done a full RAM test.  Bios is 3.0A (no difference with 1.0 or 1.16)
Can anyone out there with this Mobo and a 7800GT or 7900GT run AquaMark3 (http://download.guru3d.com/aquamark3/) in demo mode.  The demo starts out following a ship, in a few seconds you go up and over a tiny hill and see a vast scene in front of you.  Off in the distance, do you see geometry intersecting in an odd way?
I've not noticed any problems in Quake4, Doom3 or 3Dmark, so maybe it's a DirectX only issue.  This is extremely frustrating, because I can't imagine what the problem could be.  System is completely stable and I have no other problems.
Thanks in advance if anyone out there tries the demo

    OI,
As you can see from my sig i have a similar set up.  I use antec PSU. The issues your talking about are Likely due to a combination of things not Just one.
First of all are you setting your nvid drivers to the game you are using instead of global settings.
Also what are your amp ratings on your PSU.
Also what are running in your back ground.  How many processes?
Have you defragged that drive since your last install?
    Have you run dxdiag?
are you using the latest dx version?  One came out just recently.
I appreciate all the feedback guys, and as far as these questions, I have tried on 2 clean installs (winxp pro, and winxp x64), and have the same problem.  Nothing else running whatsoever, everything updated, etc.  It's got to be a hardware issue, and since it's a graphics problem that I've experienced with 2 cards, you guys must be right, it must not be getting enough power.  I chose this PSU because Tom's Hardware used it in their test setup with this board (didn't realize it was such a sensative issue).  I'll keep messing with it for another day or so.  I'll be quite happy if it's just the PSU and I don't have to send the mobo in for replacement.
    Thanks again

  • Power supply needed for MS-7220 (Diamond Plus) and others.

The following statement is taken form the K8B Diamond Plus Manual.
For ATX 12V power connection, it should be greater than 18A.
If I am interpreting correctly, the ATX 12V connector should have dedicated to it a minimum of 18A.
My first, question is if the Power Supply has two or more rails, how do you know the power dedicated to the ATX 12 connector on the Power Supply?
Second, if a +12V rail is not dedicated the connector, how do you know what is connected to each rail of the Power Supply?
This maybe the source of why many are saying, they have more stable system performance when using single rail Power Supplies.
I have tried eleven different manufactures to get more detailed Power Supply specifications, but no responses; today through February 1st is the Chinese New Year.
Those of you running the K8B Diamond Plus, what are you using for Power Supplies and are you having any instability problem?
One thing I did find curious was that going the manuals and in most all of the newer Socket 939 motherboards have this specification, but nothing in the motherboards specifications of on the MSI Web Site about this required and the are a lot of 500-600 Watt power supplies sold that do not meet this specification.
The statement Total Wattage does not mean a thing has even more meaning to me now.
Are we going to have to know the Current Rating of each cable on the output of a Power Supply now to insure we are purchasing the correct Power Supply?

    Roger
Ihave a Tagan 580w U22 with switchable dual/combined +12v rails and it is very stable, set it combined for 35a.
Only thing to ponder was the 4/8 pin +12v/p4 connector, power supply has the correct split 2x4pin connectors so does the board but there is a little removable cover over 4 pins,so thinking MSI fitted it there for a reason I have fitted only one 4 pin connector,no problems as yet.
Think you may well have a point re the 18a.
I have just given my son my old sli platinum/cpu/heatsink/ram/vga card, this setup ran  250/11/4 @ 1.4v & ram 2.5 3 3 7 1.1 @ 2.75v with the Tagan.this setup now fitted in his case but with a dual 18a rail Enermax and he can't o/c stable to the old settings.Case has better cooling than the wavemaster it all came from.
Dont think the enermax is bad just that it supplies the power a different way.

  • NX7600GT Diamond Plus and fan speed with Dual Core Center

I just got a NX 7600GT Diamond Plus for my HTPC. I noted that Riva Tuner and other utilities are not able to control the fan speed of the video card. The only way one can control the fan speed is via Dual Core Center and 3D Core Cell. The problem is that the default setting for fan speed on Dual Core Center is too high and clearly audible. How can I get Dual Core Center to start with user defined presets during windows start-up/boot-up ?
What I want to do is to put the fan into 'SILENT' mode automatically during Dual Core Center start-up. Any ideas / suggestions ?

Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 17-January-07, 00:44:11
well no need to edit manually, MSI provided everythink in easy way from core center.
select advanced mode, create your custom profile pickup your desired settings,(setup maximum FAN RPM via buttons) and save it to custom profile.
suggest you to read help section from program.
So the custom profile is automatically loaded every time DualCoreCenter starts up ? Maybe there is something wrong with my install of DCC, I cannot get it to load custom profiles automatically upon startup. I can save the changes to say "User Profile 1" but the profile active on startup always is the "default" profile ...

  • K8N Diamond Plus and SLI

I have the Diamond Plus MB with (2) MSI NX7900GTX-T2D512E Graphic cards and the SLI bridge connecting them. Everything runs great until I enable the SLI in the NVidia display properties. I check the box and as soon as I hit the apply or ok button my system reboots. When I check the display properties after reboot the box is unchecked. Graphics driver is ver 84.43  I really expected the cards to work great with the MSI MB, but so far that's not the case. Any Ideas?

^ Echo the power-supply response. I'm not sure what the specs on your PSU are, but you might want to check it. If it's dual-rail, then you could be having a problem. Random reboots when graphics are involved usually means PSU.
Also make sure your PCI-E connector on your motherboard has power. There's a 4-pin connector on the upper-left of your first PCI-E x 16 slot that needs power if running dual graphics. Check your motherboard manual if you're not sure which one it is.
    Go here: http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone2_build.html
.. for a list of compatible power supplies for your setup. I'm running a Silverstone Zeus ST56ZF which is one of the few PSU's certified for SLI 7900GTX's, even though I'm running a single 7900GTX, so I can overclock the CPU and GTX all I want.

  • Want to be an unpaid beta tester ? K8N Diamond Plus and press search !

    Dear all,
This A8N Diamond Plus with  Nvidia AMD x16 motherboard technology is becoming a bundle of issues and we the customers who paid approx. 200 Euro's for this board are the unpaid beta testers.
I must say not only MSI is responsible for all this sh.. , but is this the way to run a business?
Many of us have spent hours and hours already, trying to find solutions for compatability problems and bios stability issues.
I think this is why the PC is doomed to loose more and more gamers in time ...or are we talking  Microstar Chinese here ?
    Greetings

    Hello,
It reminds me of Windows OS's, Microsoft releases half baked OS and we beta test it for them for free.
With all new releases of motherboards there's going to be bugs. Unfortunately MSI can't test all of them way to many devices out in the market to do that ( I think ). So they test the most popular brands and models with the board. I think that they didn't want to fall too far behind ASUS, which I think release their SLI 16x first, so they made the hardware side stable as it can be and released their version of it, while hoping when they release their BIOS updates will fix any issues with the board.
I can say that I'm one of those beta testers since I bought the board and I can say that I'm one of the lucky ones that isn't having any issues with the board, knock on wood   Yes I do get the phantom modem if I disable the onboard audio but since I use the onboard audio, it's not a problem. Oh, and ntune doesn't work for this board either it doesn't run or it freezes up the computer, but I know how to do it in BIOS to OC the cpu.
Unfortunatly there isn't a 100% PERFECT motherboard out there, they all have some kinds of bugs in them.
I guess for good advice is to wait for a few months before buying a newly release motherboard or wait until new BIOS's pop up on MSI websites.
Well that's my 2 cents anyway.

  • Anoying issue with K8N Diamond PLUS and overclocking.

I just got the motherboard wehn i overclock and restart the PC either from windows or BIOS etc. The PC will not boot and have to turn it off then turn back on. Apart from this annoying issue it's a great board better theen my A8N SLi Premium mostly due to the extra CPU voltage yay :D Is anyone else getting this issue?

  • Default FSB on K8N Diamond Plus and system restart

    Hello,
I'm just wondering why the default FSB value on the mobo is 200.9 mhz and not 200.0? I find that this is odd so I changed it to 200.0 since the first day I use the mobo. Before this I used a Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLi but since the upgrade to Diamond Plus my system always restart just like pressing the reset button. I did a fresh install of Win XP for the upgrade. I never had this problem my old mobo. I've ran memtest and prime95 but found out no error. Now I'm changing back the FSB value to 200.9 mhz to see if that is the problem.
    My spec:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
    Enermax Liberty 500W PSU
2X Gainward Geforce 6800Ultra in SLi
2gb OCZ Platinum EL dual channel kit DDR400
    HDA Xplosion sound card
    WD 250gb Sata II 16mb HDD (WD2500KS)

"the upgrade to Diamond Plus my system always restart just like pressing the reset button. "
give more info how, where, what was last action before happend?
It happens when I ran 3Dmark 06 at the beginning of the deep freeze test. Sometimes I experienced BSOD during boot just before the welcome screen comes. I don't think this is a power issue since my PSU is pumping 22A at both of the 12V rails. The change to 200mhz didn't solve this and I think the problem is from nVidia drivers. I've tried the chipset driver version 6.82 with graphic driver version 91.31, better but still having restarts. I tried chipset 6.86 with graphic 91.31 and that makes thing even worse. I also tried chipset 6.86 with graphic 84.21, the result is the same as chipset 6.82 with graphic 91.31
Edit: The restarts occur at times(not everytime) when the screen resolution change. I use a lower resolution (800x600) for Windows to make the text easier to read.

  • K8N Diamond Plus and IEEE1394 problem

I connected the supplied IEEE1394 bracket to the correct connectors in the mainboard (as described in pg 2-20 in the manual).
the "squarish" port worked fine, but the "longer" type just won't work!
what happened? in the manual, it says one of the connector is optional.  but in my board, there are 2 1394 connectors.
does it have anything to do with the problem?
    thanks

In my Diamond Plus board there were two separate brackets that came with it.
One - for IEEE 1394 (Firewire) usage has two different shaped connectors on it, two cables coming off of it, and each cable has a GREEN connector with a big nub hanging off the side that only allowed them to be plugged into the IEEE1394 ports on the motherboard.  You could NOT accidentally plug those into USB ports because they would not fit.
The other, for USB and diagnostic LED, has two same sized USB connectors on it, and four LED's.  The USB ports have two cables that come together at a YELLOW connector.  The LED's have a single cable that comes together at a BLACK connector.  It looks to me like if you inverted these connectors you could get it to fit into the IEEE jack on the motherboard, but they don't belong there.
Make sure you're using the right brackets.
    Good Luck,
    DJG
NOTE - Now that I reread this, it sounds like you might be saying that you got the two connectors to fit into the motherboard fine, but that one of the ports on the bracket still doesn't work.  Is that what you mean?  If so, I have nothing to offer except try switching connectors on motherboard and see if problem travels with bracket connector or motherboard port, try new bracket, etc...).

  • K8N Diamond Plus and MBM5

Anybody got MotherBoard Monitor 5 or Speedfan, working with the K8N Diamond Plus
I need to configure my LCD on my keyboard and can take values of temperatuer only from these two programs.
The programs to create custom screens on the LCD is the LCD studio.
If anybody got it to work please enlight me

Neither of those progs have support for the Diamond Plus...as stated, Everest Ultimate does though.

BTW this is offtopic but can you get read write queue bypass to 16x?  I set mine to 16x but it shows up as 8x in windows. Same with the idle cycle limit.  I set it to 256 but i shows up as 16.  Really retarded mobo IMO
I have both set at 16x and 256 respectively without problem

  • Incompatibility between Diamond Plus and EVGA 7900GT series?

    Hello again!
I began to wonder if there might be a problem with my video card. I am almost sure that MSI with nForce4 doesn't make a good team with EVGA 7900 GT CO SC.
I know that the SuperClocked model has problems (mine has also), but the problem is this one: my 3dmark06 scores are in the 3800..4700 range. It's just random. I always ran the tests in the same conditions (stopped antivirus, etc. and all other background/real time processes that could be stopped).
I saying that this is an incompatibility because I know another person that has a MSI nForce4 board (not my model) and a SuperClocked EVGA 7900GT and he experiences the same problems.
I'm sure that this is not an OS/drivers related problems. I carefully installed all "things".
If you have any sugestions please shoot...
I guess I should be thinking about changing my video card, because I like too much the mobo.
The guy that helped me OC my rig, measured the Vcore and it was exactly 1,399 V. And it stayed that way. The multimeter was a brand one, so I trust his measurements. He told me that this is the most stable Vcore that he has seen in his life. Even DFI doesn't have such a stable Vcore. And he also compared the measurements with the BIOS settings, and he said that the mobo is over-volting. For having a 1,4 measured Vcore, I had to se 1,35V  in BIOS.
If you had seen this problems before, please input here.
As you already know, your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

Yes, I tried to run the tests without OC and the results remained unchanged for the shaders.
I'm 90% sure that this is an incompatibility issue because I had tried today my video card in two other computers and it ran smoothly. It even supported 568/1840 (550/1580 are the stock freqs, as you already know). Those computers were having Asus A8NE and DFI Ultra-D mobos.
Sooo... this is an incompatibility between MSI with nForce4 and EVGA 7900 series.
I generalize because I know another guy with another mobo from MSI with nForce4 SLI (the simple SLI, not X16 like Diamond Plus) which preferred to change his EVGA video card with a Leadtek.
Don't believe me? No problem, it's your money and your time.
But... If you want no headackes, don't mix MSI with nForce4 and EVGA 7900 series.
Btw, the guy with the DFI board that I was writing about earlier, was the technician that is working at the store from where I bought the EVGA.
Boy... poor little man... you should have seen his face when  I told him about the problems with the video card... When no problems were found after testing it, you should have seen my face... Boy... I was so ashamed...
All in all, it would be a great thing if MSI would launch more often BIOSes for their/our mobos... Preferably stable BIOSes, where you don't see things "dissapearing". I paid 240$ for this mobo in my country...
Bas, don't get me wrong. I love this mobo and I would not change it for anything else, but I feel that it's true potential is not fully used; like a car equiped with a powerfull engine, but because of a poor designed ECU, it doesn't put all its horses on the ground.
I repeat, I am not arguing with any one, I had just written my wishes.
    Cheers!

  • Diamond Plus and shutdown problem *resolved*

I am just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.  There is one other fellow on another forum that just built a system around this board that is experiencing a similar situation.
I am running windows (32 bit) and using the original bios (no issues so far, except this if it is one)
Approximately 60-75% of the time when I go to shut down or restart it acts like I didn't click it, but when I click it the second time it functions normally then.
When I installed this mainboard it replaced an Asus A8N SLI board, I needed to save some E mails that I had forgotten to save so I did a repair installation of windows.   I just attributed the shutdown "glitch" to that.  I am about to reformat and reinstall windows fresh this morning, maybe this will solve the problem.  (but my gut tells me it probably won't)   Also I installed the SW-ide drivers and the NVidia firewall, which I won't be installing this time.

Quote from: kakarocht on 22-March-06, 23:08:52
Do you do any ocing? Have you tried to up the RAM voltage? is your windows is properly installed??
Yes I do a little overclocking, 2.6Ghz - 217 FSB but SuperPi and Prime 95 stable at that speed.  I just reformatted and the problem is gone,  Like I had mentioned I had done a repair installation when I installed the board from an Asus A8N in order to retrieve some E-Mails, I didn't have the chance to reformat until today.  I really didn't think that would have fixed it, so much for my gut feeling.......
