Different depreciation rates in different years

Hi ,
I have come across a situation in which client wants that different depreciation rates should be charged in different years.
For example 10% in 1st year, 7.5 % in 2nd year, 6 % in 3rd year, 4.5% in 4 years and so on .
Asset life should be assumed to be 10 years .
How can we map this in SAP.Please provide detail explanation.
Regards
Nike

Dear,
Nike Sam.
I supposed your issue seems relating to MACRS depreciation I think. If so then you have to use the multi level method in depreciation key.
Please note the your case is like MACRS depreciation so according to me you will get standard depreciation key for MACRS is
M200 & M150. However you can study them & configure as suits to your needs.
Perfom this on test client first. If you have any doubts feel free to share. You are welcome.

Pankaj A Bhalerao.

  • Different Year of closing in different Depreciation Areas

Hello Asset Gurus, we are on ECC 5.0 and we did in 2009 activate a new depreciation area 32 in two of our chart of accounts to make them same as the other two chart of deprections for easy inter-company asset transfers. We did use AFBN to activate this new depreciation area and completed year-end.
However we were implementing SRM project usings a parallel quality system and in the process, somehow got the fiscal year closed for depreciation area to be 2007 instead of 2009. The OAAQ show that the fiscal year close for all company codes is 2009 but OAAR show that the fiscal year closed to be 2007 for depreciation are 32.
We need to resolve this before we get this year-end and want to know if you guys have any idea in during this directly in the production system using OAAR or some other transaction and what are the draw backs, if any.
    Thanks for your feedback.
    Joseph Teli

    ji,
You can change the last closed FY for a single dep area direclty in OAAR.
Hope your FY is APR to March
Then first close the FY 2009 by AJAB.
And open Fy 2010 by AJRW
Now change the last closed FY to 2007 in OAAR for 32 area.
No other implications in this regard till the next year end closing of FY 2010. Means to open FY 2011 in AJRW in next year, you must close Fi-AA till FY 2009 atleast. Coz you can open only 2 years at a time in FI-AA.
    Thanks,

  • Committed budget and invoice in different years

    Hi,
We cannot post invoices in fiscal 2012 if PO/entry sheet docs are open in fiscal year 2011 without Carryforward of Open Items.
We have year of cash effectivity activated in our system and FM update profile 000359. Under the accrual basis of accounting, cash is disposed when entry sheets are registered, so invoices should not affect account assignment. Is there any way to prevent this error in our system and allow users to post invoices simultaneously in 2011 or 2012, without Carryforward of Open Items? Is there any kind of implementation to change to override update profile so that change status from Service Order to Invoice is not considered in FM.
    Thanks for your help,
    Iván Garcí

    Hi,
000359 profile is not supposed to be working with PBET (unless, you made modifications to it) and therefore, theoretically, invoice could be posted in a different year. Did you do any modifications (OF39)?

  • MT940 file transactions appear in different years (2011-2012)

    Hi
We have received a MT940 file with the value date and document date in different years.
    e.g.  :61: 1203013012....
    Here 12 means 2012, 0301 means value date = 03 January 2012, 3012 means document date = 30th December 2011
However the posting is made in 2012 only for both value date and document date which is incorrect
    Value date = 03 Jan 2012
    Document date = 30 Dec 2011
This is a compliance / SOX issue as the document date year posted is incorrect.
There are only 2 characters used to specify the year in this case which is 2012 - there should be a facility to specify 2011 also
I assume this scenario is quite common and must have occurred for other users also
I would appreciate any feedback on this item
    Thanks in advance
    Rahul Kochhar

    Thanks Nico
Actually the issue is with changing the file because this would be considered as a SOX violation and would need approvals.
We have asked the users to use FF67 and do a manual posting line by line and modify the document date manually.
Both options need manual intervention and workaround and are tedious in nature.
I was under the impression that this would be a standard issue and faced by many people hence the post -  maybe SAP has a note that can be used?
Please do let me know if you have any more suggestions
    Thanks

  • Reverse fo a settlement made in different year - KD283

    Hi folks,
    I need your help.
Could you please tell me what to do to reverse a settlement made in a different year?
By current settlement of an SD-Order position the error message KD283 - WIP/cost of sales can only be settled after reversal appears.
It is because we had to reverse some settlements...we were able to reverse only settlements made this year, but those made in last year were not able to reverse.
    What to do, please?
I have found the SAP note 140672, but I am not sure if it is the right way, because it might insult in COPA-FI difference. Am I right?

    Hi,
    There are two options:
    Option-1:
    a) You can perform reposting or manual allocation in the current period and thus transfer the costs back from the cost center/dummy order to the sender.
    b) Then, you have transferred the costs from the previous period which must still be settled or reversed into the current period.
    c) Finally, the costs are now selected during the settlement in the current period.
    Option-2:
    a) You can use the full settlement processing type (initial screen of the settlement transaction), the system checks whether or not there are debits not settled yet from prior periods, and if so it issues an error message. You can then immediately correct the relevant orders, possibly by reversing the settlements of the current period and settling the previous period again.
    b) For doing this, need to implement the correction of Note 586673 first.
Since this (Note 586673) involves program corrections and a reversal of the incorrect settlements, no issues in the change to 'FULL' with the existing 'PER' rule.

  • Depreciation rate change from a particular date

    Dear Guru's
Can any body help me,  In my plant machinaries working 2 shifts now it is working only 1 ****.
my client is asking can we change the depriciation rate from a particular date onwards.  If we change the depriciation from a particular date what impact will be there,  is it will effect old values ?
    please suggest me.
    Regards
    Chandu

    Hi
Yes, we can change depreciation rate from a particular period/ year onwards.
For that you have to do configuration in Multilevel method ( T. Code AFAMS ). But you can not keep rate as per date. Suppose, for 2008, you want to maintain rate 210 upto 10 % and from 7th period, rate will be 20%, then
AcqYear     Year         Period      Base Value     Rate        Reduct
    2008            1               6                1               10                 -
    9999           999            0                  1                20              -

  • Change depreciation rate

    Hi Eveybody
i want to change depreciation rate.. what is the procedure to change the same...
    thanx in advance
    sanju

    Hi Sanjay
Change of depreciation rate can be in the depreciation key.
This change modifies the settings in the key and affects the particular asset and also assets whereever the key is being used.
So check the impact of changing the key and the rate within.
If assets are already impacted then check reverse using AB08, go to dep key , change the % .
But you might have issues with prior year assets. It is possible that you cannot post because of closed periods.
In any case, check the impact, assets affected, period and FY affected and test

  • Change in start date of tax depreciation in mid of year

    Hi Experts,
Tax depreciation area is not for posting. The fiscal year is from Jan to Dec. I want to calculate tax depreciation from May 2011 based on Net Book Value of tax depreciation as on 30.04.2011. But once I change the start date of tax depreciation in asset master to 01.05.2011, the system ignores the previous depreciation so I am not getting the NBV of tax depreciation of 30.04.2011.
Is any setting is required to get this. I can not do changes in posting rules since this tax depreciation is not for posting any thing.
The fiscal year 2010 is closed and NBV of tax depreciation as on 31.12.2010 of one asset is 80000, If I change the start date of tax depreciation from 1.1.2011 then system correcly take NBV of 31.12.2010 for further depreciation calculation. But if i change the start date of depreciation in between of year the system is calculating depreciation based on NBV of 31.12.2010 but ignores the tax depreciation from 1.1.2011 to 30.04.2011, which I previously run using AFAB.
Need your assistance to know is it feasible to do this.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Harshad

    Hi Harshad
The behaviour of the system is very much correct, it is designed to behave that way...
One, you should not have changed the dep start date....
two, NBV in SAP is always taken to be NBV @ the start of the year....
The best wayout I can suggest here is, if you are on EhP4 and EA-FIN active
    a. Change the Dep Key in the asset... You can maintain Time Dependant Dep Terms in asset master i.e. Dep Key X from Jan-Apr and Dep Key Y from MAy onwards
    b. This will however, calculate dep based on NBV at the start of the year, but based on new useful life
    c. Considering your eg: The system is posting more depreciation i.e. 5333 instead of 5155.... So, calculate this amount outside the system and post a Manual Write up ABZU inorder to reduce the Dep and increase the NBV
Even if you are on not on EhP4, you can follow the same approach as above.... i.e.
    a. Change the Dep Key in asset master.... This will throw up new dep figure, on the basis of New Useful life and NBV at the start of the year
    b. Post a write up from ABZU....
No need to do Asset to asset transfer in my opinion
Only diff between EhP4 and Non EhP4 is that the differential depreciation would be lesser if you are on EhP4... i.e. instead of 5333 now, system may throw up depreciation amount of 5666.. So, you may need to post write up of 5666-5155

  • Depreciation run for Previous Year

    Hi all,
I am trying to run depreciation for the previous year 2009.
    I tried the following:
On AFAB I gave the year as 2009 and the period as 01, and checked the planned depreciation check box.
    Got an the following error:
'Only an unplanned posting run is possible in this fiscal year'
Then I selected unplanned run and ran the depreciation, still it was getting the another error
saying you can only post to period 12.
Then I changed the period to 12 and ran it and was able to run the depreciation fine.
But now I want to run for the other periods say period 10 and period 11. and now I am getting the following error.
' Period 010 is already Posted'
does that mean that we cannot run a depreciation run for a earlier period, if the latest
    period  is already run??
If not how can I run it for the  other periods 10 and 11??

    Hi,
You can only run depreciation for the 12th period only.
Once 12th period's planned depreciation run was performed, then it is not possible to run any kind of depreciation with an earlier period number.
But you can run the 12th period again in repeat mode, in case you have posted any back dated entries after the 12 period'a planned run with an asset values date, which falls before 12th period.
    Thanks,
    Srinu

  • Depreciation for the Financial Year 2007-08

    Dear All,
How to run  the Depreciation for the Financial Year 2007-08, without disturbing the Depreciation of Financial Year 2006-07.
    kindlly send me details desprications
    Regards
    Pritpal

Posting Depreciation is a periodic activity. Depreciation is posted every priod by AFAB by aseet accountants. However it is not necessory that you need to run AFAB when you are in the current period. You can run it any time; subjected your financial accounting is open for that period. In your case you need to run AFAB for every priod from 2006 to 2007. After each year is completed, you may need to run ASKBN for APC periodic posting and cose that FY in Asset account by AJAB open new FY by AJRW (Eg. 2008).

  • Asset depreciation calculation for prevous year  when legacy data transfere

    Hello,
Asset Legacy Data transfer has made as on 31.12.2006. so, for the first period asset depreciation calculation has done wrongly  i.e. on the first period of 2007. but it was not noticed at that point of time, now after 2 years, the cumulative difference is coming out very big.
for 1st period, in Asset Value Tab of AS03,  for period 01 , 2007 when i am checking right now it shows for dep. Area 01 right now that Amt to be post (14.48) instead of that in the next line for Dep. area 20 and in the next line it shows, Amt. to be posted ( -0.28). hence, for next period only differnce amount is posted in G/L side instead of actual it should be posted as 14.76.
so, now because of this error, my G/L and AA sides are not matching up.
eventhough i post manual reversal entry via FB01, when i will run ABST2 there will be problem.
if i run manual unplanned depreciation, then will my problem of not matching of Asset side and GL side will be solved. ?
also, please provide suggestion from your end in order to solve this issue.
    Thanking you for your help.
    Jigs.

We cannot post any depreciation to previous fiscal year 2008 as no planned depreciation is envisaged for the previous year 2008. The transfer date for Legacy asset data transfer is maintained as 12/31/2008 and takeover values are uploaded accordingly. Hence, 2009 is a first year for Asset Accounting of the company code.
However, Depreciation posting program checks for previous period log while executing for the current period. The logs are stored in u201CTABAu201D table. For new company code there will not be any entries in TABA table.
Due to missing functionality, System is checking for previous year depreciation posting logs even though the current fiscal year is first year for planned depreciation and giving error message AA 687.
As per SAP Note 144441 this error can be rectified with the help of correction program ZACORR_TABA_ENTRY_CREATE.
    Steps to Rectify the Error:
    1. Copy correction program from SAP Note 144441 into SAP System.
    2. Execute the program with transaction code SA38
    3. Check the values in test mode
    4. If the table is updated with documennt number , remove the test mode tick and execute again
    5. Execute the deprecation
