Different language of Query interface and masterdata texts

Hi Experts,
currently we are using BI system in 2 languages EN, DE. All queries are maintained in two languages. All text datasource are in two languages.
Now customer wants to have it also in Spanish. To load all texts via existing datasources in spanish would be easy.
But it's to difficult to maintain all queries in 3 languages (because next will be eg. Danish, Norwegian, etc...).
So I'm thinking about possibility to have Query itself - the interface (titles, names of characteristic, key figures etc.) in english and masterdata texts (eg. names of customers, materials etc.) in Spanish.
Do you think it's possible at all?
I tried URL parameters sap-language= and bsplanguage= to simulate it - English query with German masterdata texts, but without success

Hi Sven,
users can use (and currently they are mainly using) English reports. But people from Mexico would prefer Spanish.
And we don't want to allow them to create their own reports themselves
I thought it is not possible to have query report partly in one and partly in second language.
I have another idea - to allow also spanish language, but all texts of query (characteristics, key figures, titles, etc.) have in english version. For this it helps to have a way how to simple copy all these language dependent texts from EN version to spanish (eg. via some abap program or another way). And texts from text tables (eg. materials, customers, etc.) would remain spanish.

Read different language from the file and upload data

Hi Expert,
I am loading customer master data through BDC( trx-XD01) by reading a file from PC. The file contains customer data in different language like English, Chinese, and Japanese etc. However, when creating customer master data, only those data in English are able to create, as I am in English log on. The data in other language is showing garbage value. However, when I am logging in with that language (say Chinese) this time I am able to create customer for Chinese data but not for other.
Can someone one help me to solve this problem irrespective of language in the file and SAP log on, I should able create customer through my program.

Can I change the Controls labels & messages into a different language in user interface.

Hi,
I am working on China based project and they want to switch the UI controls and indicator’s labels,
menu or selection control and messages into two different language i.e. English or *****.
Please let me know is this possible using labview programming. This will be very helpfull for me if we can do using labview.

Check it in your PC, whether you can display ***** Characters for the Captions/Labels.
For control text we can’t change Language directly so, we need to create two Language Texts for each Controller/Indicator. Based on user request we need to update Caption Language.
As per below snippet,
Just I wrote, ***** & English (because I can't write ***** characters on my FP). In your case you need pass ***** & English text separately.

I am using the "ibook author" to create a magazine with different languages as text, and I would like to know if the program can reconogize the different languages, because it is cutting very bad all the words when it arrives to the end of the parraf.
Please let me know what solution could work for this case.

Works everytime i try
screen shots
new book with basic template.
First add second chapter
then
1) click TOC page tab/button
2) select image drag new image and replace image
3) click second dot to go to next chapter (2)
4) drag in new photo (farmer guy is new photo, replaced b&w flow photo)
now click on frist dot to go back to chapter 1 TOC will be first photo draged in (nycity)

Can I have 2 different styles for Footnote numbers and footnote text?

Hello,
I have a document with plenty of footnotes.
I would like to assign all the footnote numbers to a character style, and all the text to a different character style.
For example, I would like to have the footnote numbers in bold and in black, while the footnote text in light and in dark gray.
Doing this manually isn't an option obviously.
Is that possible?
If not are there any scripts out there that can manage it?

It is simpe to make.
Crete a Chyaracter Style for the footnote number.
Set up the Paragraph Style for the Footnote text.
Go to the Nested Styles section
Select the Character Style
Apply it to the first specified separator symbol (like tabulator) you have choosen when you have set up your footnotes.
Use it. It will apply automatically. Of course, you have to choose this Footnote Paragraph Style in the Footnote Set Up Settings in the Type menu.

My mac keeps highlighting different boxes all the time and a text box has appeared on the screen that says what box is highlighted if the sound is turned up when you press a key or click on a box you are informed of the action any ideas what i can do?

Language setting of browser and Application Primary Language

Hi,
my browser is currently set to German, that's why the APEX builder is also displayed in German. Brrr, I like development environments when they are not displayed in English - sometimes you don't understand this translations :-)
But my problem now is that I have created an application and set the Application Primary Language to English (en).
I would now assume that all the text APEX is creating during wizard actions will be created in the Application Primary Language and not in the language the browser is currently set to. But all the text is created in the browser language!!!
I think that's not a good behavior, because if you have a multi user/multi country development, the developers have to change there browser settings so that we get a consistent application. But to archive that I have set the primary language for the application.

The resulting "defaults" strings which are displayed/used in the wizards should be Estonian, because that's my primary language of the application. Does it really make sense to show them in English/German, ...? Because the result language of the application should be Estonian.A) And how exactly will the Builder obtain the Estonian translation of these strings or of the translation of these strings into any of the hundreds of other languages we know nothing about?
I think the answer is that the Builder should maintain an awareness of the language setting of the application being developed. During the generation of possibly translatable text, the wizards should use a translated message for that text/language if: a) the language is one of the ten languages in which we make the Builder application available, and b) the developer has installed that "language version" of the Builder application (even if they are running a different language version at the time of text generation). If either condition does not hold, then the text should be generated in the Builder's primary language (en-us).
The builder is no genius (or not yet ;-) ), so that's up to the developers when they are changing the primary language during development.B) I don't understand your point (what is up to the developers?). The point I was trying to make was that even if we concede that generated text from the Builder should ideally be in the language that is the current primary language setting of the application being developed, the Builder would not be able to make that accommodation during the execution of the portion of the Create Application wizard that creates pages (with generated text in some language) because this occurs beore the language selection is made. Of course, the answer is that the Create Application wizard should be changed to allow the language to be selected before any text can be generated. Wizards would then be able to generate text in the appropriate language according to the rules proposed in (A).
Why does the builder/wizard not use substitution strings (eg. #APPLY_CHANGES#, #NO_DATA_FOUND#) for this type of default text instead?This would result in "code" in areas of the metadata from which translation strings would be extracted into the XLIFF file. Translators would ignore this code so the ultimate translated application (and the primary) would need a repository in which to hold the desired text for each language to be supported and a method with which to dynamically lookup the translated text at runtime. I don't believe the current architecture supports this (apart from the fact that we don't currently do it this way) and I think the performance implications could be significant, but I could be mistaken on both points.
Wouldn't it help to translate the application too?I don't understand this suggestion.

Stationery in different language

When using the stationery in Mail, the body of the message is in a different language. The header and footer are in english. How can I change it to English?

I'm betting that you are referring to the Latin text. It is there to indicate where you should type your own text... Highlight it and replace... This is a common practice with "publishing templates". Microsoft Publisher has done this since the 90s with its templates, and so have many others.

Hello,
Professional translators use tools (like Trados Tag Editor... but there are others) that separate the text from the tags. This way, only the text is translated and sent to a Translation memory for further reuse. Tags are protected during the translation process.
You just need to send them the *.htm files. They'll send you translated htm files that you'll just have to reincorporate into your help project.
You must also send the HHK and HHC files if you want the index and TOC translated. We prefer to recreate them from scratch in the translated project.
We use one help project per language. If you have RH8 and your help content is not too big, you might want to consider using the new multinlingual feature: having a single project but one output per language. I've not had a look at it yet so I can't tell you what it's worth.

Xmlp reports in different languages using XLIFF translation

We are doing xmlp reports in different languages using XLIFF translation and it is working fine. But for Arabic and Japanese pdf reports printing “????” instead off Arabic and Japanese. Upgraded Adobe Acrobat Reader to 7.0 and down loaded languages support updates but its still not working.
Are we missing anything?

I am also facing the same issue. I am also getting "????" instead of Hebrew translation. I am trying to generate PDF file using the XMLP API. It works fine when tried to generate from MS Word using the "Preview Translation" option.
Please let me know is there any configuration parameters that need to be set.

Power off--in 4 different languages.

This grey notice occasiaonally appears at random times, telling me to turn off my computer. It tells me this in four different languages, englih, french, spanish and uh..german, i think?

XML file being written to and queried are in two different language dir

I have a script that writes out an XML file and will read it back for checking purposes. I then have a different script that will read the XML file and act upon it (in this case for Open, Closed for Severe wWeather, Closed for Holiday, etc). What happens is that when I write to the XML file the file is put into the Documant Management/en_US folder. When I try to red from the file it reads from the Document Management/en folder (which is proabably a hold over from our previous versions).
So, I look into the System/Language area and see that the IVR language configuration is en_US and the Default IVR Configuration Language is set to en. So, I changed the second one to be en_US.
Now, when I try to read the file it reads from the en_US folder so everything looks great. But, now when I try to write the file it writes to the en folder.
If I switch the Default IVR Configuration Language back to en, everything goes back to how it worked at the beginning of the note.
So, I have been fighting with this for a few days now and cannot figure out why the system will not read and write from/to the same folder. Can anyone come up with a reason? I see nothing in the scripts that specify a different folder so I am utterly confused. With it jumping between folders I feel like I am in some Abbott and Costello film....

The good news is we can be lazy but first to check one more thing: Is your Trigger set to use the System Default language, en_US, or en? If it's set to en that might explain the inconsistancy.
Now the lazy part: when the engine cannot find a document in en_US it is supposed to auto-search the en and then default folders as well. So, you should be able to let it write to en and read from en_US because when it doesn't find it in en_US it should go look in en and then default anyways.
If none of that is working either then I declare shenanigans, I mean defect! Time to open a TAC SR.

Maintain Text in Different Language

I have query for maintaining text in multiple language, let me elaborate my query..
I created std project having all WBS element & maintain WBS Text ( description) in English lanuage.Now my client prefers that if a person in other country log into SAP in German language then he should see all description in German language.
I have one solution that log into SAP in German Language & maintain all text again in German language. This will be just repeatition of the work what I did in English language.Client wants to maintain all text in 6 language & I have to repeat the same work 6 times.
If you have come across such issue , please tell me about your solution.

Activate business function OPS_PS_CL1
Multi language support has to be activated fro the Object ML(IMG-->Project system-->activate multi language support)
when you create a new PS object , a new tab short text appears, in which you can maintain different language keys and description
so when ever user logs in different language then the description of PS object will appear in that language if it is maintained in short text tab

So I have just had my potentially duff hard drive replaced and uploaded my data from time machine to discover that pages is now speaking to me in a different language. The keyboard has been selected as UK during setup. How do I get back to qwerty?

What exactly are you referring to? Are the menus or templates for Pages in a different language? Does something strange appear on the screen when you type?
Could you perhaps use the Camera icon here to post a screenshot of what you are seeing?
To make sure you have the right keyboard, go to system preferences/language & text/input sources and make sure that only the box for US or British is checked (and that the box for French or German or anything else is not checked).

Upload positions-text in different languages?

Hi folks,
we have to enter positions in different languages. To enter new positions we use a flexible upload - method. We have got one upload-file for EN and another one for DE.
The problem:
if we upload the EN-file, the text of the positions in DE gets blank,
if we upload the DE-file then, the text of the positions in EN is blank.
So one of the fields (either DE or EN) is empty and would have to be entered manually.
What can we do to upload both DE and EN - text for the positions?
Is this possible at all?

Hello folks,
it´s possible to upload different languages!
It´s easy if you know how to do it:
create an upload-method with (at least)
Positionplan and language in the header
Position-nr and text (short, medium, long if you want) in the body
--> NO further information (hierarchy, type or whatsoever)!
Create a file with information above
Import the file
--> if positions are available the new language will be filled in
--> if you accidently address a new position you will get an upload error (as no hierarchy-info is available).
