Digital Audio Interface versus Speakers in Vi

Just got a new Soundblaster Audigy SE to replace my onboard sound.
I installed everything and now I am wondering for the sounds, should I make the Digital Audio Interface as my default for output or should I just do speakers.
I am currently using the Vista OS.

Are your speakers connected to a digital?external receiver or digital? Did you have it connect to a coaxial or optical input on your speakers, or digital din?

  • Best digital audio interface for Garageband on Macbook Air?

Hi everyone, fairly new to all this stuff. I'd love to record some songs in garageband using my electic and acoustic guitars, and a microphone for vocals. I soon learnt for this I'd require a digital audio interface so I began my research.
I'm on a Macbook air so I saw I'd need one that runs from USB... and after a bit more searching I found Apogee seem to be a recommendable company.
Can anyone point me in the direction of one of their products (or any companies' product) that will do the job of recording my guitar (from a standard jack cable) and my vocals (from a standard band-style microphone) that will 100% work with Garageband on my Macbook Air via USB? I'm on a budget of as cheap-as- possible, but I'd like a fair amount of quality in the product, so any price you can reccomend will be considered.
Any help is greatley appreciated, apologies if this is not the relevant section or even site to ask this question.

You can have the best or you can have cheap but not both. Good interfaces start around $80 and great ones can be several thousands.
I bought several items from sweetwater lately and really like them. So here is a link to usb interfaces. Any of the other big music supply store will have equal deals.

  • Getting Sound from digital audio input to speakers on HP a6433w while connected to TV

Hello, I need a hero, please. I have connected my Panasonic TC-L42U5 tv my HP a6433w computer (running Windows Vista), using HDMI cable. Okay, I an use the tv screen as a computer monitor. My goal is to get the tv to output the sound to my computer speakers, which are plugged into the Realtek audio card. All I really have for audo out on the tv is a digital coaxial out, and that is plugged into the digital in on my hp. But I get no sound. What can I do? Thank you!

    Hello Ptero1,
By default settings are going to be set to the analog jacks. You may need to check the settings to ensure they are set for digital use.

  • Why distortion when output through computer out but not audio interface out?

    Equipment:
Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 digital audio interface
2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Mac Mini with 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Software:
    OS 10.8.2
    Mainstage 2.2.2 32 bit
I'm running a mic into my digital audio interface, which connects via Firewire to my computer.  The mic input is mapped to an audio channel strip.  When I attempt to run sound out using the stereo out on my computer, it works okay for about 10 seconds, but then starts progressively becoming more distorted.  At first, I thought it might be a bit rate issue, so I dropped it down very low.  This corrected it momentarily, but, again, after about 10 seconds, the distortion came back.  When I change the output to one of the audio outs on my digital audio interface though, it works fine.  However, I don't have the Y cable I'd need to take 2 of the mono audio outs on that device and merge them into a stereo out that I could plug into my computer speakers (that's all I've got right now), so I'm stuck with mono out.  Do you know why I'm getting this distortion on my computer's line out?  I don't have audio distortion problems if I'm watching Hulu or anything, and my Saffire drivers appear to be up-to-date and Focusrite says the device is supposed to be compatible with Mountain Lion.  Help is much appreciated!

  • Windows 7 no longer recognizes or allows ASIO drivers for my usb audio interfaces

Hello All, last year I purchased a new version of Propellerheads Reason and the  Balance digital audio interface that came with the bundle.
Everything was fine it all worked well, especially when I added asio4all drivers. (The Balance comes with its own asio driver).
Super low latency on my keyboard and midi guitar.  I was using my midi guitar and set up at jams for several months last year and it was great!
One day I was getting ready for the jam session and I noticed that the latency on my midi guitar became so bad that I could not play in time with the other musicians.
I checked out the preference/audio page in Reason and saw that my asio drivers were missing! I immediately went and down loaded asio4all again and installed it. It would show up in any of my music software. I have tried removing and re-installing
the stock ASIO driver that came with Balance and no luck.
I suspect that shortly before this  huge problem ( my music software is basically useless without asio drivers) I allowed a windows update to my system.
I think that somehow during one of these "updates" something changed and windows 7 no longer allows asio drivers on my computer. This really sucks!
Is there some way to get rid of the offending "update" that ruined my music system?
    Thanks in advance!
    Don

Thank you for your response  FangZhou Chen, unfortunately this problem started last fast, possible early November so I can't do a restore that far back.

  • I want to find the digital audio output on my Pavilion vd6853ea notebook

I have spent far too long trying to find where this output is located.
I have a very good Hifi and at the moment am using a USB cable to connect to my DAC.
It looks like there is a realtec digital output somewhere on the notebook as it show up when I go into the playback devices and it tests ok visually.
The 3.5 jack plug is just analog and not a hybrid spdif.
    Where is it????????
Please help as I am getting really fed up now!

Thank you so much for the fast reply.
I thought that may have to be the case.
Can I please ask you a few other questions?
If I want to get a digital audio output not using a HDMI (My DAC doesn't have this input), can I get a good result with something like a Musical Fidelity V link USB to S/Pdif converter or a M2Tech Hiface digital audio interface? Sorry,  I cannot make a recommendation on either of those products as I am not familiar with them.
Is it possible to change the sound card with an optical or coaxial output? Your notebook's sound is an integrated solution. It is a chip soldered (integrated) onto the system board. It can't be updated.
Thanks again for the kind help!

  • No Sound In Vista 64bit / Digital Audio

I decided to rebuild my MediaCenter pc the other day. The previous PC worked but was getting slow. I mention this because all of the connections up to the PC were working fine for many months. So after building this PC and installing Vista 64-Bit I go to install my Audigy 2 Value's drivers. It said no product was detected, however windows Vista seemed to install some of its own "Audigy" drivers so I just moved on. I go to test the sound and I see the windows "digital" volume bar moving but I am not getting any sound. I then decide to check my connection. I am connecting it from the digital out to the dongle provided by Creative (it has SPDIF & Optical in / out), and all seems to be fine. I assume its fine when I see a red light coming from the dongle's optical audio out. If I have it plugged into the wrong port on the Audigy there won't be any light. From there it goes to my AMP. I know the problem isn't from the dongle to the amp because none of those components were changed. When I set this up some time ago I remember a setting I checked (I don't remember if it was XP or Vista) that enabled DigitalAudio out only. I thought with Vista only outputting "Digitally" (the speaker volume bar does not move) everything should be fine. Any idea why I can't install the creative drivers? I think I did that in the past and everything worked fine.
I feel like I am so close and it's something so simple....
    Nick

I did more testing last night. If I right click on speaker, click playback devices, highlight "digital Audio Interface" (that volume bar moves when sound is playing) then click properties. Under the Supported formats tab there is a test button. If I select DTS or Dolby Digital and hit TEST I can hear the test sounds just fine!
    Now I am really confused.

  • When external speakers are plugged in to headphone jack, sound randomly goes back to internal speakers or digital audio setting, then back again

I have an essentially new MacBook Pro with Lion and all updates applied, and am wondering if this is a hardware or software problem.  Essentially with something plugged into the headphone jack, things work as they are supposed to for a while, then the sound will switch back to internal speakers, or sometimes 'digital out' (I can watch it change in the system settings), and then often switch back.  It doesn't seem to follow any sort of pattern or be related to any specific application that could be open, and happens with different sources of audio (iTunes, streaming from the web), and different external speakers or headphones plugged in.

Sounds hardware related. If it's brand new, and you're still under warranty I would have it checked out.
I have not experienced this on my computer.
As I understand it, you have analog RCA outputs from an 1/8" to left and right RCA outputs. when you're randomly using the computer, it'll switch to internal speakers, then to digital audio, back to your stereo analog external speakers.
This should not be happening and if it's happening with streaming content (I am unaware of anything that streams in 5.1 digital audio) then this must be something that an apple specialist should look at and consider.
Does this happen with the headphone jack out? when you hold your finger over the headphone jack area does a red beam come out of it *blinking* or just on? This will be a good indicator that your audio hardware is faulty. are you running HDMI out?

  • Digital audio input via mini jack/toslink from ADA, monitored via USB audio output... is this do-able? I know digital audio input should be okay but how do I monitor it, apart from using the internal speakers?

Digital audio input via mini jack/toslink from ADA converter, monitored via USB audio output to amplifier... is this do-able? I know digital audio input should be okay but how do I monitor it, apart from using the internal speakers?

You can output audio thru HDMI, with appropriate adapter.
You can use additional cheap external usb audio for monitoring.

  • Macbook 2008 no audio from speakers - can't disable digital audio - red light in headphone jack

Looking for help with this problem, that seems like a lot of people had in the past and still have, but I see that a couple of discussions on it here have been archived. Too bad, as the problem continues.
I seem to be having the same problem with my late 2008 white 2.1Ghz Macbook.
I had used earphones a few times with movies and iTunes, with no problems. Now I've just rebooted to find that I have no audio from internal speakers (the boot up chime works though). Earphones work perfectly.
There is a constant red light in the earphone jack. The volume icon in the top menu bar is greyed out. In the Sound preference panel, Built-in Speakers are not available as an option for audio out. The only option is Digital Audio. If I connect earphones, then they are available as the only option.
I have tried all the various methods that people have recommended, to switch off digital audio through the earphone jack: trying to flip the little switch with a toothpick, paper clip, etc., as well as cleaning around inside the jack with a bit of rubbing or cleaning alcohol; also tried inserting and removing the earphones plug several times, while pushing the volume buttons on the keyboard. Nothing works.
I did get something from inserting/removing the earphone plug, as I seemed to be able to adjust volume from the keyboard, but I never got sound out from the speakers; the volume window seemed to indicate increase/decrease volume as I pressed the keys, but after a few seconds the volume window greyed out again with the No Entry symbol.
Trying to flip the digital audio switch in the jack occasionally gets the red light to turn off for a couple seconds, but then it comes back on.
Is there any particular problem with this that can't be solved by the aforementioned methods, that many people have used to solve it in a simple manner? Could my problem be more serious? Is there anything I could do if I opened up the Macbook, e.g., somehow to manually turn off the digital audio switch?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Got it fixed with a small flathead screwdriver with a fairly wide blade. Opened iTunes, started playing songs, had red light in headphone jack, as per usual with this problem.
Put screwdriver in jack, with blade more or less vertical, started moving it around inside of jack in clockwise motion, pressing pretty firmly. Took just a couple of "swirls" around the inside of the jack and then audio finally turned on! Was a bit of a hassle, but finally worked.
Many thanks to all for their suggestions.
P.S. re. advice not to use metal object. This was the only way I was finally able to solve the problem (i.e., using the small screwdriver). I didn't see where using a metal object would be a problem, seeing as the headphone plug itself is metal. Anyway, it worked.
