'Do Not Disconnect' Doesn't Go Away

Pretty self explanatory.. When I connect my Nano to my computer now the 'Do Not Disconnect' message keeps flashing... Why?

hiya!
when the ipod is connected and showing up in your itunes source list, go "edit > preferences" and have a look in your "ipod" tab.
are either "manually manage songs and playlists" or "enable disk use" selected? if so, what you're seeing is normal. the ipod will flash that until you eject it in itunes.

  • DO NOT DISCONNECT SCRREN NEVER GOES AWAY!!

Hey i have an Ipod nano, 2 gen i think, 2gb. When I plug it into my computer the "Do Not Disconnect" screen on my Ipod goes up, and even when it's done uploading that screen NEVER goes away, it still charges, but that screen doesn't allow me to listen to my music when it's charging. Can I fix this?

Yes You can fix this easily. First let the Ipod download files from computor(known as sync), once it has downloaded, then click on the nano drive on the desktop, from the file menu click on eject nano or use the apple key(next to space bar) along with the e Key, push these two bottons at the same time. after the nano drive symbol disapears from the desktop, the do not disconnect will be replaced with a charging sybol, and you will then be able to play all tunes on your nano while it's being chared. When the nano is charge it will change the nano display to an electrical plug. Have fun!

  • Do not disconnect message wont go away

I have the do not disconnect message on my ipod when plugged into my comuter (windows XP). However, the computer says the update is complete. I have reset the ipod several times. Still get the message and when I try and disconnect (by clicking on the ipod icon) it says cannot disconnect because some files on the ipod are in use by other applications or something. Pls help.

    Hi,
I have been suffering from the same problem, in that I continue to receive a 'do not disconnect' warning on the iPod (4gb nano). iTunes will not eject, nor will windows (as per apple disconnect instructions http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61135).
I have found that MacAfee is the culprit in my case. I am using Virus Scan 10.0 and it seems to keep open handles on files in my iPod drive (although I don't use that functionality).
To release the iPod I have to briefly disable the virus scanner:
    * Right click on the MacAfee security center icon in the system tray
    * Choose VirusScan -> Disable
    * After a few second the Do not disconnect disappears from the iPod
    * Right click on the MacAfee security center icon in the system tray
    * Choose VirusScan -> Enable
I think that MacAfee & Apple need to collaborate to remove this bug.
Good luck and I hope this works for you.

  • Do Not Disconnect Doesn't turn off - itunes not finding ipod

My ipod has been plugged in for hours and it still says do not disconnect. Also, itunes says that there is no ipod connected. How do I fix these and have itunes find my ipod.

Maybe you should try and restore it to factory settings by using your iPod updater and selecting "Restore".

  • Do Not Disconnect won't go away

Everything on my iPod 30 gig was wonderful until I bought a new Nano for my granddaughter. To get her started I bought some songs and transferred them using my computer. To do this, I had to change the settings on her "guest" computer to manual.
I know, I know. I've since called and found out how to set up separate profiles in XP. Cumbersome but it works.
I've reset my iPod to automatic update and I've finally gotten it to update automatically again. But while my desktop now says "okay to disconnect" my iPod keeps the "do not disconnect" icon until I just unplug it. I've checked all the settings and they seem right. Ejecting does work, but it used to disconnect automatically.
    Any ideas?

sometimes my ipod doesnt eject when i press the eject button in itunes either. thats when i go into "my computer" and right click my ipod and select eject from there. that usually does the trick.

  • Update is complete but "do not disconnect" won't go away!!!

I listened and it is still spinning in there too. It's been doing this all evening. We used the advice on the site and tried ejected it. Didn't work. Tried the other couple of things it mentioned (turning itunes off and on again) and finally just disconnected it.
We then waited awhile and tried again. that's when I uploaded music and now it's doing the same thing.
    ??????

In edit\prefs\iPod, is 'Enable Disk Usage' checked?

  • Do not disconnect not going away

I have a 60 gb video ipod. I have been uploading songs to my ipod before and all of a sudden, it stopped putting them on my ipod. I would watch it transfer in itunes but as soon as i took my ipod off the dock the songs wont be on there.
And another thing. I have to manually eject my ipod now because the do not disconnect screen never goes away even after it says update complete in itunes.

I have the same problem with my ipod nano. Itunes will not consolidate my library, new music will not transfer to my ipod, and whenever I connect my ipod, the "do not disconnect" never goes away. I have already reinstalled the program and I'm still having this problem. How can this be fixed?

  • Ipod is frozen on do not disconnect screen....

i seriously don't know what to do with m ipod anymore. it's a 5 gen ipod video that i've had for less than a year. today i tried to sync it to my computer which is a sony vaio with windows xp and it got stuck on the do not disconnect screen. i plugged the ipod in and waited for itunes to open, which it didn't(i waited a long long time). so i then shut down my pc thinking the do not disconnect screen would go away after the pc was shut down...but it didn't. i tried rebooting my ipod MANY times and that didn't work. I tried plugging it in different usb ports on my pc and it doesn't show up in itunes. it shows up in my computer as a 'removeable disk' not an ipod as well. i don't know what to do...all i wanna do is format it back to factory settings so i can use it on my new pc(a brand new imac..<3) does anyone have any ideas? thanks.<br>
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Even when its not connected..I went through the same thing my Ipod freezes alot(5thgen) nor will it show vidoe or pics not even podcast. What I did was got a programm call TUNE TRANSFER FOR ipod. With this you can backup anything on your ipod so you can then restore it. During a freeze your computer doesnt recognize the ipod at all.No connection. You need to reset your Ipod but not traditionall. 1- toggle hold switch 10 times each direction.(left/right)immediatly after your last toggle(be sure the toggle isnt on hold)
2-hold menu and select buttons for 15 seconds toggle periodically. I hopes that helped if not messege me back. make sure you have the latest Itunes.
    GOOD LUCK

  • 20G U2special edition i-pod "do not disconect" won't go away

    Hello I need help!!!!
I connected the Ipod to the pc and the "do not disconnect" icon appeared...Then it took a while I tried to disconnected in the pc using the eject button but my pc didn't recognized it(ITUNES didn't recognized the ipod either) I intalled the latest software, try to use the updater to restored but it can't read it. Now I plug everything off of it and it still shows that Icon. I put it to charge and it looks its charging and when using the hold button I can de the little lock icon, but the "do not disconnect icon is still there my pc doesn't recornize it and I can't listen to anything.
If anyone have ideas please let me know Thanks!

Now when I connect my nano to the new computer, it says it's synching but when it's done the "do not disconnect" won't go away (I let it stay connected all night and when I woke up it was still there)
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes version 7 or later, connect the iPod and when you see the summary screen, uncheck the box marked "enable disk use".
If you are using an earlier version of iTunes, right click on the iPod in the source list, select options and uncheck the same box.
In future your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

  • "Do not disconnect" bothers me so much

When I open iTunes, my iPod stops iPlaying with the message "do not disconnect". I hate it.
When I plug my iPod into my iComputer to iCharge, the iPod stops playing with the message "do not disconnect"
If iTunes is not running and I plug in my iPod, I get the message "do not disconnect" which never goes away until I launch iTunes.

    3. How do I make my iPod so that when I plug it in to charge, the music does not stop playing with message "do not disconnect"? Maybe Apple sells a special charger that does not give message "do not disconnect"?
You play your IPODs music through ITunes. Either by using the ITunes files or the IPOD's files.
    2. How do I make my iPod so that I can unplug it anytime?
If the IPOD is not set to "Disk Mode" then use the eject button in ITunes to eject the IPOD. Then diconnect it.
    1. Is it okay for me to unplug it at anytime?
No it is not, you risk locking your IPOD up.
I do not use my iPod as a hard disk. I don't even understand what that means. I use my iPod to play music through the earthphone jacks and I plug it into the computer to charge it not to use it as a hard disk

  • Do Not Disconnect message does not go away!

I just purchased my IPod Nano and every time I recharge it on my IBM Windows XP Pro, I get the message "Do Not Disconnect". When I try to eject from Itunes, I get an error message that tells me that "another application is using Itunes" and hence cannot eject. However, I do not have any application open. This "Do Not Disconnect" message doesn't go away even when my battery is fully charged. Can someone share some insight on how to make this problem go away?

The answer could be as simple as you have your iPod enabled for disk use. If this option is switched on then the Do Not Disconnect will stay there until you manually eject your iPod.
Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync (automatically update songs and playlists) with iTunes and also has a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you have your iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case use Safely remove Hardware icon or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • IPod Do Not Disconnect Does Not Go Away

I'm having a problem with my iPod. I was charging it on my computer, and when I came back to check on it, my computer for some reason was trying to restart but was locked up. My iPod also said "Do not disconnect." I couldn't unlock my computer with out disconnecting my iPod. However, now that I have, the "Do not disconnect" message will not go away. If I connect the iPod back to my computer, it doesn't seem to recognize my iPod. It doesn't show up in iTunes or under My Computer. I'm not sure what to do.

Try this. Turn the "hold" button on, then off. Then, hold down the center button and the "menu" fuction button at the same time. Hold for a few seconds. this should reset your ipod and you can use it.
Whenever you connect your ipod to your computer...the "do not disconnect" message will appear. You can still update and such while this message appears. But before you unplug the ipod, you must first "eject" the ipod...there is an icon for such purposes on the itunes main page. On the bottom right corner...you should find it. Just place your cursor over the icons and you'll see one that says "eject ipod".
    Worked for me!

  • Itunes says "update complete" but "do not disconnect" never goes away!

So, I wait and wait and "do not disconnect" on my ipod never goes away.
    A little history:
I got my nano a few weeks ago, put a few songs on - everything worked fine. Then, I got a new computer. Since I only put a few songs on, I didnt mind starting from scratch. Now, I can't seem to get it to work!? I have songs in itunes. when i click on my ipod, it shows that i have songs on the ipod, it SAYS the update is complete, my ipod shows "do not disconnect" i wait for ages, and then finally just eject the ipod, and - NO SONGS are on it.
    help please. thanks
      Windows XP Pro

Do not disconnect always on, this happens when you have "enable disk use" ticked in the iPod preferences, in which case you have to manually eject your iPod.
However if you are automatically updating your iPod and do not intend using it as a portable hard drive, you can set your iPod to automatically disconnect.
Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes and also have a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you have your iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case use Safely remove Hardware icon or check this link: "Disconnecting iPod from your computer

  • Frozen in "Do Not Disconnect" iTunes doesn't see iPod

I have never had one bit of trouble with my iPod until today. I plugged it in, the Do Not Disconnect comes up, the clock is frozen, no charging happening and iTunes doesn't see the iPod. I tried the "restart" and nothing is working. What do I do?
I haven't upgraded to iTunes 8.1 yet, would that help?
    HELP!

OK, so I tried the Reset again. Still didn't work. THEN I saw this:
    Tip:
+If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.+
Tried it again and now it's all better.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
    Still no joy, see these.
