Does Excel-Addin is supported by Excel 2013

Hello All,
We are in processing of upgrading the versions of Microsoft office from 2010 to 2013 for our users who are using Essbase Excel add-in. In 2010 the Excel Add-in is supported and working but my question is will it works for Excel 2013 also. Anyone installed and checked it. Please help me on this.

I have not seen any updates to say it is supported, it looks like only Smart View 11.1.2.5 is supported with Office 2013 - https://blogs.oracle.com/proactivesupportEPM/entry/epm_obiee_certification_with_ms

How to check from code in Excel Addin that Excel is embedded in Microsoft word

We've developed an Excel Addin in C# for Excel 2010 and it works perfectly OK. But one issue is reported very recently as below.
1. Microsoft word document is created with an embedded excel work sheet.
2. Save the document and close.
3. Open the word document and try to edit the work sheet there.
4. Following error comes.
"The program used to create this object is Excel. That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding.
To edit this object, install Excel or ensure that any dialog boxes in Excel are closed."
5. This is because, our Addin is initialized and one excel process is running.
6. If the Excel Addin is disabled, above work flow works correctly.
Please let me know how to determine from the Excel Addin that the excel worksheet is embedded in another applicatoin. Because I want to disable the Addin in those cases and enable it if the Excel is opened standalone. The Addin is developed in C#.

Since the error message, please try to install this Hotfix test if it works:

Note: Delete the Excel instance running in the background(Go to your task manager and delete it) before opening your Word document and edit your embedded Excel.
If the issue still exists, please see the article and try the solution which I copied here:
"The basic simple answer is to place a Marshal.ComReleaseObject(Wb) at the end (or better, in the Finally block) of your event handlers. This will properly allow Word and excel to handle the OLE communication by not having VSTO hang on to an instance
handle of the workbook, therefore causing the error.
And this is not carte blanche to start placing ComReleaseObject() all over your code. I have found VERY VERY few limited cases where using ComReleaseObject() in an add-in necessary. And this is one of them."

Excel Addin issue

Hi There,
I am wondering if the issue happens to others or not, but some of our excel addin users have the following issue:
They use Excel addin Lock, send and unlock the data, however when they do "Retrieve", there is nothing showing up at excel. (default calculation is executed before the retrieve). However the other users can retrieve from their excel addin.
Sometime when excel is restart then retrieve works.
Any idea?

1.User is able to login to the application but when trying Essbase->retrieve nothing is displayed.So, No problem with the user .... but have you used admin credential and tried?
2. I took some combination and tried to retrieve but nothing is displayed..no data. No error message also. Have you checked the sessions of a user who is unable to retreive the data??What i mean is session created for that user ???
3. Now user is receiving "Runtime error 53". file not found "essxcln.xll"I think the file Essxcln.xll is not there...Check in Hyperion->bin->"Essxcln.xll" it should be there...
if it is available open excel template and goto->tools->addin->Hyperion->bin->select "Essxcln.xll" and click "okay"
1. Which version of essbase are you using ???
2. Have you tried in Different system with similar configuration...??

Does Member Selection (SmartView) == Retrieve (Excel AddIn)

I just purchased the "Look Smarter.." book and it starts off by referring to a 'Retrieve' function in the Excel Add-In that pulls dimensions, member and associated data-values from an Essbase db (in my case Sample:Basic). I however have the SmartView Add-In running on Excel 2007, and there isn't any 'Retrieve' function that I can see.. The closest I can find is something called "Member Selection" that can be used to pull in dimension/members names. However this does not seem to pull in any actual data for these dimensions/members. I have already loaded the Sample:Basic db with data, so it's in there somewhere. I just need to know how to pull it all into Excel so that I can continue following along with Mr. Roske!

I followed your steps EXACTLY, but it only displays the Year and Market dimensions.. no 133980 data value! Just to confirm that I have the correct sequence, I did the following in order:
1. loaded data.txt into Demo:Basic in EAS
2. ran an 'Execute Calculation' of the 'default' calc script in EAS.
3. opened a fresh Excel workbook and connected to Demo:Basic and activated it
4. clicked on Refresh.
The only other thing that happens is that a little window with drag-and-drop for 'Product' , 'Account' etc. shows up on the sheet. I tried to do a drag-and-drop of these extra dimensions, followed by another Refresh, but still no data value(s) appear.
The funny thing is everything work perfectly when I use the Excel-Addin instead of SmartView! In fact, when I use Excel-Addin, the 133980 shows up even if I don't explicitly run the default calc script. So, I have a feeling that my problem is localized to SmartView.

If open the Excel workbook with connecting to MSSQL and then open the Excel workbook with MDS - data are not extracted from MDS.
Is this a bug?
If open the Excel workbook with connection to the MDS and then open the Excel workbook with connecting to MSSQL - data is retrieved from MDS successfully!

I did step 3 (MASTER DATA) both in the same book, and in another separate Excel file
The connection is successful, but import data of entity from MDS Server - no. I click and no there are no errors. And ....no data are requested from the server.
We tried it on different computers.

Excel Addin login screen does not go away

Hi All,
I have a strange problem.
When I use the Essbase Menu in Excel to connect to the Essbase cubes, the login screen comes up and after all credentials are provided and the OK button is clicked all accessible cubes are displayed but after selecting a cube and clicking on OK the login portal does not go away.
It just stays there and the excel is not connected to the server.
Please let me know if anyone has faced such a problem before and have an suggestions, the version of Essbase excel Add-in is 9.2.1.
The Excel addin was un-installed and re-installed but the problem persists.

Does Essbase addin excel use adomd?

I know this is an awkward question but, does anyone know how the essbase addin connects and gets data from the Essbase?
I'm writing a small app in .net and it seems that I couldconnect to essbase using adomd.net and querying using XMLA, but I only have the server name (I have a user and password as well) but I don't have the entire address (http://servername:port/something).
Also, I would like to use the essbase as datasource for some reports in Report Builder, using the Hyperion Essbase (XmlaClient).
Does the addin stores the address in a file?

i save a workbook on infoview and when i open it , the Addin Advanced Analysis for Microsoft Excel doesn't appear.
This scenario occurs despite the value "3" on registry of this setting: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\SBOP.AdvancedAnalysis.Addin.1.

Switch Linked (xl source) Tables - behavior change Excel 2010 PP vs. Excel 2013 PP -- In 2013 all calcs of table are lost

Situation:
PowerPivot 2010 Model based on 10 linked tables (this tables are generated and refreshed as needed by SQL 2012 MDS Excel-AddIn)
Unfortunately Excel MDS AddIn changes sometimes the tablename (case: MDS Add-In Filter changed, MDS Server changed). So after Change of tablename we have to fix the powerpivot link to this Excel tables in powerpivot to get powerpivot refresh working again
Problem:
With Excel 2010 PowerPivot this was possible without big Problems. As Long as table has identical structure one can Change/Switch the table in powerpivot Windows > Ribbon "Linked" Table > DropDown "Linked Table X" or during update
via Dialog "Errors in Linked Table"
After upgrading the solution to Excel 2013 this is not possible any more without loosing any column- or measure calcs defined for this table! :( Every time you Change the assigned Excel table for an existing linked powerpivot table..you
get following Dialog:
"You are changing the source of X to Excel table Y. Changing the source will remove all formatting, measures, KPIs, hierarchies, and other Settings applied to the table. Are you sure you want to to continute?"
Does anyone found a Workaround for persisting existing calc of linked tables when changing the sourcetable (to another Excel table with same structure)??
Dear MS, this is IMHO really a step backwards and blocks the migration of our existing Excel 2010 PowerPivot Solution? Should i create a connect entry for that?!

I assume that MDS creates a new table every time you refresh it thereby breaking the link to PowerPivot
in case you only have calculated measure you may created a separate, independent linked table and define all calculated measures there
this way they at least would not get removed

Problems with running excel addins

Hi,
I use ActiveX to store measurement data aquired from LV in an Excel
spreadsheet, which works fine so far. In one of the data columns though
I wanna use an Excel Addin to automatically calculate and update the
values.
However, opening the Excel spreadsheet from LV does not start up the
AddIn at all, though it works correctly whenever I start up Excel
manually.
I realised there's an object AddIn in the property node of
"_Excel.Application" and I can invoke a method "Add Excel.AddIns",
which has a file name as an input. I tried to connect the
AddIn-Filename *.xla to that input which results in an error message:
Error -2146827284 occurred at Exception occured in Microsoft Office
Excel, Die Add-Methode des AddIns-Objektes konnte nicht ausgeführt
werden
(translated: Add method of the AddIn-object could not be executed)
How do I start up the AddIn correctly? Im a newbie with AcvtiveX and

How to retrieve sharepoint list data and show it on excel-addin using C#

Hi,
we have a sharepoint list where all students are present. we wanted to get the data from the list and show it via excel addin (VSTO) (something like save,retrieve buutons) . we have some more business logic which need to be performed before the data is retrieved
. once data is shown on excel , user modifies it and update/save the record back to sharepoint.
can you please give some samples and suggest any links to start with development.

Getting an error while retrieving ASO through Excel-Addin

I am getting an error while retrieving ASO cube via Excel-Addin. when i try to expand dimension, i am getting the following msg box,
"No message for message #1270041 in message database"
Can somebody help me out, your help will be greatly appreciated.
I am also making sure that the members does not exceed the 65XXXX limit even than i m getting this error.
Secondly, how can i increas the cache value and on what parameters i should be looking for changing the cache value.

Essbase Excel Addin on 64 Bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Office 2010

Hi Everyone,
I have installed 11.1.2.2 on server with Essbase and Shared Services.
Now, on the client I have 64 bit Windows 7 and 64 bit office 2010.
I tried installing Excel Addin client only (without Essbase client) and restarted machine after install.
After install Addin didnt come up automatically and i tried to manually set the add-in, I'm getting an error "This is not a valid add-in"
Is it because i am using 64 bit of office and have to go back to 32 bit.
Isnt 64 bit supported for latest 11.1.2.2 Essbase ?
Any ideas or experience in this regard will be helpful to me as our company is going for Windows 7 and Office 2010 across the business users and if 64 bit Office is not supported or has issues i would have to suggest them to go with 32 bit Office 2010.

I Created a power view in Excel 2013 and uploaded to my Power BI for o365 site.
But when i click on my excel file it opens in browser,After that i click on File tab its showing me two option
1. Save a Copy
2.Download a copy
When i click on save a copy its showing me an warning below
Features that are not supported by Excel in the browser and interactive reports will be removed from the saved copy.
Continue with Save?
If i continue saving it only saves an excel files with data only not the power view which i want to save with applied filters.
Please help me for this

Just to clarify, when you hit the option of Save As Copy, the whole experience goes into a "read-write" mode in Excel services, which currently doesn't support authoring, just consumption of PowerView sheets.
Two mitigations that come to mind:
1. Download the copy (as Brad suggests), rename the file and upload.
2. Use the send to option of SharePoint online, give the file the right target document library (can be the same as source) and rename the file:

Can you please let me know how enterprise authentication flow happens between excel addins and Essbase. Please let me how when I provided enterprise userid/password for authentication in excel addins, where does the authentication happens. Does the essbase agent authenticate directly against LDAP or it has a different flow for authenticating the user.

Can you please let me know if userid/password property are sent directly to external directory server (LDAP/AD) from the essbase server when a user is passing userid/password from Excel addin.
