Does it hurt battery life in an iPad to charge off USB in a car cigarette lighter

Does it hurt battery or iPad to charge off USB Ina car cigarette lighter

It won't hurt the battery, but due to the high current draw of the iPad it may cause the adapter cord to get very hot (maybe dangerously so if it is poorly made) and you might blow a fuse if you're feeding other accessories in your car from the same circuit.  Play it safe, use a car adapter that is rated to handle the iPad's current draw.

My battery life at a full 100% charge is about 2 hours 22 minutes (backlight and key lights at lowest level). Should I go complaining to Apple or do I just need different software? I've only had my mac book since August 2011. The battery dies in 2 to 3 hours with some web surfing (little video play) and photo editing etc. I really don't feel like taking my computer all the way to the apple store to wait there for 5 hours to hear that I need to call someone blah blah blah. Any advice? (BTW Safari hasn't been working since I last updated my mac, WHYYYY?)

  • HT4137 Battery life on original iPad

I've had my original iPad for well over a year. I just set up my 3G account within the last 30 days. Prior to 3G I had to charge every other day. Now, i will go through100% charged battery life with 4 hours with no change in usage and 3G turned off because I am connected to wifi. Has anyone else had this problem?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My battery life on my ipad is dying fast

I've had my ipad 3 since around March and was pleasantly surprised at how long the battery would last.  Recently, I've noticed that my battery is fading fast.  I haven't been doing anything different. I can't figure out what is wrong.  Anyone else experience this with their  Ipad 3?

  • HT1414 how do I optimize the battery life of my ipad?

I need suggestions on how to maximize battery life.  It seems to discharge much quicker than I expected.  I have also had times when it has completely discharged while it was sleeping.  Diagnostics run and hardware is ok.  In the process of restoring and restarting.  Any other suggestions?

There are some very good tips here. You'll also want to make sure bluetooth is turned off if it was off prior to the update. The update turns bluetooth back on. And make sure you don't have any out-of-control processes running that may be killing the battery. The out-of-control process is probably your issue as it was dying when sleeping.

  • Apple care is useless in India. I bought an iPhone 5 from a Maple store in June 2013.  Also got convinced at the store and purchased an additional Insurance worth Rs 1000 at the same time. The iPhone 5 has a very poor battery life. Needed to be charged at

Apple care has been of absolutely no help to me. My 10 month old iPhone 5 stopped charging one fine day and Apple denies any responsibility for  the same. Between my Family of 4, we Re currently using 5 Apple devices. Am so disappointed with the service from Apple. Although my cell phone is well within the warranty period , I have been denied a replacement. And the Shield Insurance that I purchased is now declining the insurance amount even. They insist I prove that it is an accidental damage. And Apple refuses to cover what they choose to call a 'physical damage'. So where does that leave me ?!

I cannot see the damage. But the screening centre has pics showing it is damaged. Apple refuses to cover a physical damage. But the reason the device is damaged could only be coz it had a poor battery life from start. The iPhone 5 is infamous for the same. We all know it. Apple conveniently denies responsibility.
And the Insurance company says it covers only accidental damage. Now how am I to prove an 'accidental' damage ? Unless I lie to them....

  • Does anyone know yet if the new iPad will support a USB microphone plugged into Garageband via iPad's USB Camera Adapter?

    Hi,
I've ordered a new iPad 64Gb which will arrive early April. My hobby is making music, so does anyone know yet if the new iPad (3rd generation) will support a USB microphone plugged into Garageband via iPad's USB Camera Adapter? I am hoping to use such a portable setup to record live performances of voice & acoustic instrument.
    Thank you,
    John.

When in doubt, try it out. I bought the Apple camera connection kit & used it to connect my Blue Snowball usb mic to my new iPad 3rd generation. It works just fine. I made some test recordings in GarageBand on my iPad 3 using my Snowball mic. They sound great.

  • Brand new iPhone 6 battery life dropping very fast and charging even faster

my brand new iPhone 6 that I have just recently started using the day before has a surprisingly bad battery life. whrn first turning on the phone to use the battery life only last 1-2 hours with average use. when the battery died this morning I pluhe'd the phone into charge and the battery is charging very fast already at 25% and only being charging for about 15-20 mins. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and if it is normal or if I have just recieved a faulty iPhone 6?

    Can you check:
    1. What apps show on settings - general - usage - battery usage?
    2. How many apps have permission to use cellular data?

  • IPad not charging through USB

Just got an iPad. When using USB cord to connect to computer, iPad charging indicator says "not charging". iTunes synchs fine. When I use wall outlet to charge all OK. Any ideas why not charging through ANY USB port on my laptop? Thank you,
    Chris

Leave it plugged in after you complete the sync, let it go to sleep (lock) and the charging rate will increase and you'll get a charging indication.
The charger provided with your iPad can put out up to 2A of charging current. The best you're going to see from a USB port is somewhere around 500mA, that only from high-power ports and can be less depending on the computer. Seeing the "Not Charging" while syncing is perfectly normal.

  • IPad stopped charging on USB

    Aloha
My iPad will no longer charge on USB ports??
    any ideas why??
    Dan

The minimum requirements if 10.5.8 for the iPad.
No way it would charge from a Mac running v10.4
Try restarting the iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
    Restart the Mac running v10.5.8
    Try a USB port.
Yes, you need to find the cable and power 10W adapter (for a wall outlet) that came with the iPad but you can't sync without USB connectivity. Hopefully it will work after the restarts.
Also, USB requirements are 2.0 as noted here under "Mac requirements"

  • Leave phone connected during work: Does this help or hurt battery life?

If draining and charging ultimately wears battery down, could i leave it plugged to charger during the day at my desk? This would seem to cut down charging cycles, but maybe it introduces other problems.

Won't harm it all all, it stops charging when it is full.
Your lithium polymer battery does need exercise though, make sure to do a full charge cycle at least once per month.

  • IPad not charging from USB

New iPad owner here. I was wondering if it's normal for the iPad to only charge from the wall charger and not via USB. It syncs up fine but I get the "Not Charging" message as long as its connected to my computer via USB.

I think it is weird that it doesn't charge to any USB-port except the ones on my MacBook Pro. I have USB hubs in my Apple monitor that normally have enough power to supply anything that needs power. I have a standalone powered USB-hub that gives a lot of power. But none of them will charge my iPad.
Other equipment will give you a message that it need more power than the connection has, why doesn't that happen when you connect the iPad to a USB-port that it will not charge from.
My two ports on the MacBook Pro are occupied and it is not an option to connect the iPad there and it is annoying to connect the USB charger and then later connect it to the computers USB-feed.
    Not good!
