Double requests (Post & Get) received when submitting a Post method

Recently in our Web Access log, we found that some misbehavior request pattern on some user. When a single post request would result in TWO requests at the same time to our Apache web server, one is the original POST method and an additional GET method.
Below is the access log (the .do & url are masked to anonymous, e.g. example.com)
[07/Jul/2008:17:12:15 +0800] "POST /example1.do HTTP/1.1" 200 11784 "https://example.com/example1.do" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1) ; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)"
[07/Jul/2008:17:12:15 +0800] "GET /example1.do HTTP/1.1" 200 9171 "-" "Internet Explorer"
[07/Jul/2008:17:12:21 +0800] "POST /example2.do HTTP/1.1" 200 9171 "https://example.com/example2.do" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1) ; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)"
[07/Jul/2008:17:12:21 +0800] "GET /example2.do HTTP/1.1" 200 9211 "-" "Internet Explorer"
We checked the log and found that for the additional GET method, the user agent is different from the POST one. Do you encounter such "double request" case?
Furthermore Is there any reasons, in the aspect of system configuration such as apache setting, or in user's browser perspective such as additional plug-in installed in Firefox, could resulted in double request to the web server? Do you have any work around to eliminate the second GET request?
It would be great to receive your comment. Thanks in advance.

I dont know the answer. However, I would check out the JSP or HTML page and see everywhere it submits back to the server. One spot is in the <form> tag. It should have something like action="POST". Also, check the javascript to see if it has a .submit call. It could be a click on the update button calls two java functions that each submit, or perhaps there is an on-load function call in the <form> tag that calls a submit. Another possibility is the user navigates back to the JSP page that auto submits when its refreshed.
Possibly caused by a user double clicking the update button rather than single click. In the last case, have the button call a javascript function rather than let the button submit directly to the server. In the javascript function, set a static boolean variable and submit (document.myForm.submit). A second submit to the function will be blocked by that static variable being set because you check to see if its true before you submit and if so, dont submit. Print the timestamp to the log file from both post and get functions to see if both requests come in within a fraction of a second. If so, it may be the issue I just described.

When submitting a target survey I get back an error.... I think this may be a safari problem or mountain lion problem as I used to be able to submit surveys on their survey site.  This problem occurs if I use my MacBook Pro or my iPad.  I want try  to win a 5000 gift card and can't win if I can't submit the survey.  It lets me fill out everything and only after I hit submit I receive an error.  Target says it's not their problem.  I curious to know if anyone else has tried and receive back an error after hitting the submit button.

Thanks.....I'll try that the next time I get a new receipt from target.  My old receipts are older than 72 hours now so I can't try Firefox with them.  I appreciate the response and will certainly try this and post a reply if I was successful in submitting the target survey.

  • Error when submitting GRC request

We were running into an issue when trying to set up our IDM - GRC integration; when submitting a request to GRC via the AC Validation task the "Submit AC Request" task always encounters an error, but in spite of which the request still gets created on the GRC end; weirdly enough, 2 requests get created each time:<br>

    Hi Diego,
Thanks a lot for your quick response! Sorry for the delay in responding; I was travelling.
Uploading the new files from the Note you mentioned allowed us to view what the actual errors were; but we've started running into new errors now; when looking at the operation logs for VDS, I see that the webservice actually returns an operation result of SUCCESS also quoting that "Finished add operation"; which is why the request does in fact get created in CUP but a couple of log entries later after the webservice returns the request number I encounter the following error within VDS:
Exception in GRC WS API call:oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
Here's the error found in sequence within a set of other operational log messages within VDS:

    Hi,
I have some data loaded into the data-domain in Endeca 3.0. When I was creating views in studio I repeatedly get this message when I say save view:
    Could not execute view config service request. This usually happens when an invalid view config service request is made, or when a read only Oracle Endeca Server receives a view config service request. Error message: Error applying updates: Unsupported language ${DEFAULT_LANGUAGE}
In the workspace.prm file I have set ${DEFAULT_LANGUAGE}=en
May I know why this happening and a remedy for it. Appreciate you help.

  • Can change Request POST to GET ????

I have a jsp that posts to a servlet....I then need the servlet to redirect to another jsp but as a GET. Can this be done...
I have tried forward (that unfortunately keeps old URL and does not change the POST to GET) and redirect obviously does not do it straight out of box- would like something like:
    request.setMethod(GET)
    where it originally was POST
    Thanks if anyone has ideas

Well, after racking my brain out on a Fri. night (isnt it wonderful when u need something done at 4:30 on a FRiday!!)- I finally got a work around- and not from java, but javascript!!-
    By putting in :
    onload="document.preflightForm.submit()"
on the jsp page before my svg page I get a request submittal of type "GET" and all works out as well despite the oddity jsp/svg bahavior I noted:
    1. The jsp/svg executes 2ce- I have seen other posts about this- perhaps adobe svg viewer reauthenticating(?- there were no answers)- easy to workaround with session boolean flag.
    2. On IE the jsp/svg with a redirect from a control servlet only displays the svg when it is from a GET (the jsp that requested the servlet)- a POST will result in an empty page (why???- no idea- but netscape works fine).
So, despite my past probs with javascript I have now found a place for it in my java world- actually is a bit interesting/challenging!!
Thanks for thoughts guys- although still would like to know more of this odd behavior/ or other workaround- still too bad cannot change request method from POST to GET- even if would lose info....oh well...at least now can enjoy my sat!!

  • The voice that was on when I first set up my ipad came back on and now I have to double click to get into my apps and can't use my apps because her voice is always talking.  How do I make her voice go away and my IPAD work like it should.

The voice that was on when I first set up my ipad came back on and now I have to double click to get into my apps and can't use my apps because her voice is talking.  How do I make the voice stop and my IPAD work again.

If you've turned VoiceOver on then see if triple-clicking the home button turns it off, and then change what Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-Click Home is set to.
Otherwise, via 'the touch to select double-tap to activate' process you need to go into Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver and turn it off
The manual (http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad) also says that you should be able to switch voice-over off by connecting to your computer's iTunes :
Turn VoiceOver on or off in iTunes: Select iPad in the iTunes sidebar. In the Options section of the Summary pane, click Configure Universal Access. Select VoiceOver, then click OK.
So select Configure Universal Access at the bottom of the Summary tab and set Seeing to Neither
