Droid 4 Android OS update issues

Recently upgraded Android OS on my Droid 4:  4.1.2; Kernal Version 3.0.8-g473e586; Build # 9.8.20-72.VZW-18.  Since then experiencing these issues:
1.  The "DROID" audio announcement at startup is now very loud, perhaps 3X louder than before.  This is irritating.  Is there a way to adjust the volume or turn this sound off?
2.  Within one minute of startup checking Voice Mail generates a "Network Error" message instead of going directly to VM.  Before the upgrade VM was available immediately, no delay.  Now there is a 30 to 60 second delay even after the signal strength bars show connectivity before VM is accessible.  Anyway to improve the performance here?
Thanks for you insight and recommendations.  - Brian

I noticed the same thing after my Bionic upgraded to JB.  If there's a way to adjust the volume or turn the sound off, I haven't run across it.  I only reboot my phone about once a week, so it's not that big of an issue for me (YMMV).

I've noticed one of my widgets is slow to load after a reboot, but a 30-second or so delay for the once a week or so that I reboot the phone again isn't that big a deal for me.  A system cache clear might improve the performance, but it's not guaranteed.

yesterday evening my Droid razr got JB update.
After update, the phone won't show up home screen, instead it is continuously loading the boot screen.
i had a VERY LONG CONVERSATION(almost 2hours)  to VZW cust supp guy & these are the options he gave.
    1) i need to buy (with my MONEY) new/recertified device to continue in the service
    2) i need to do an early upgrade & buy new phone.
UNTIL YESTERDAY MY IS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE (with ICS) & VZW OTA update bricked my phone &
THEY WANT ME TO PAY /EXTEND MY CONTRACT BECAUSE OF THEIR MISTAKE.
& THE customer support guy blames Motorola & google for bad software update.
which is not true BECAUSE THE UPDATE IS A CUSTOMISED ANDROID OF VZW not motorola or Google.
BUT  STILL HE SAID HE CAN'T DO ANY THING.
I NEVER EXPECTED THIS FROM VZW & TOTALLY ****** OFF.

yes, i can boot into recovery menu & can select recovery option.
but after i select recovery option, it will just show some dead green

  • Adobe Content Viewer v22 for Android - folio update issue

Yesterday I updated our Xoom to Android 4.1.1 and updated the Adobe Content Viewer to v22.  Both we and a client have had issues with not seeing the "Update Available" message for folios that are been updated.  The "Updating Library..." message flashes briefly at the top of the viewer in library mode, however nothing changes.  It's only after killing the app and restarting that it takes its time while checking the library for updates and finds them.  Has anyone else had this issue?  The iPad rendition of the same folio has been showing update messages in the usual, almost instantaneous, way.
Has anyone else had difficulty with updating folios in the Android v22 Adobe Content Viewer?  In the past couple of versions I've noticed some strangeness with the Sign In/ Sign Out part of the library where it seems like the text tells you you're signed in, but sometimes you have to sign out and sign back in to get updates.  Sometimes you could go back to the home screen and then go back into the app and it would trigger a check for updates as well, however that trick doesn't seem to be working anymore.
    Andrew

Thank you for the reply Himanshu.  Evidently the problem is much worse than I thought because previously created apps don't even open anymore!
None of the apps we have published to the Android app store are getting past the splash screen.  The library flashes briefly on some of them before the app crashes.  The error message it gives is "Unfortunately, ____ has stopped."  This is a big problem!!  Will updating the apps to v22 solve this issue?  When will Adobe have this major problem fixed?
I'm flashing back to June of last year when reliability of basic functionality (like apps opening and folios being downloadable/viewable) was still unpredictable.  You Adobe guys and gals have got to figure out how to make the DPS system dependable.  I understand this is an operating system conflict, but surely you knew this update was coming and could test how well your software would hold up to the changes.  This isn't a barely used minor feature that isn't working, this is something that makes users uninstall the app and lessens their opinion of the company that released it.  Please make this your top priority and get it fixed today.  We and our customers are paying for a much higher level of service than this.

  • Android ics update issues

Since the update, the tablet seems less stable when docked in the docking station. I have Cassandra set as the default to turn on when it is docked. Usually when I dock it, then click the power button the screen would go dark and stay "off". Now it does go dark but in the morning it is on again. Today i returned home and the tablet was stuck at startup (the swirled orangey ribbon, swirling over and over), holding down the power button would not do anything, eventually it started up after holding the power button close to 2 min.
2nd: have you tried to log into this forum using the tablet? The boxes to enter the user name and password don't open the keyboard all the time. I had to bust out my iPad to log in and type this message.

    USER-914437,
I'm sorry to hear about your issue. Have you tried to perform a reset? There should be a small hole on the side of the tablet where you will need a small pin.
Also we are planning to refresh / redesign our forum for mobile device such as tablet and phones. This is coming soon (within 2012).

  • Two Droid X 2.3 update issues for me, hold the mustard.

Well, so far I have 2 complaints with the update.
First, how come we still have the Eclair Gallery? My wife's Fascinate, still on stock 2.2 has the Froyo Gallery, but my DroidX still has the same, lame, old Eclair version on it.
Second, I've found that putting the phone in the Motorola desk dock, rotates it to landscape, great, fine. But when I pull it out and hold it in portrait, the wallpaper is now cut off at the top and bottom where it was when it was in landscape. If I go in and change the wallpaper, the "cropping" border is wrong too, so it doesn't fix if I change the wallpaper. If I set a Live wallpaper or reset the phone, it does reset the wallpaper, and then I can put it back to a normal picture.
Other than that, I'm happy with the upgrade, though the battery doesn't seem to last as long as it did before...

I have checked, and both of these issues are being investigated by our product issues department.  There are no updates yet, but they are gathering problems with the GB update, and will likely have a software push to help fix them.  It's a good update aside from a few issues here and there.  We will keep the forums updated so keep your eye out.
Thanks for posting this.  It helps identify issues.

  • Android L update on the droid maxx xt1080m

I wonder when we will see the android L update  for my droid maxx? Any news coming from Verizon reps? I'm anxious to know!!

Yes I know that and I have the web based page from Motorola just for that. But they have to work with that certain carrier, that's why I asked if any Verizon rep knew anymore that what I know. Like a small leak that it's passed through their network somewhere.

  • If you're fed up w/ android's stability issues...

Do what I did. Switch to an iphone. I have never been a fan boy by any means but wow this phone is awesome! The battery is much better than any android device I have ever owned (g1, droid x, thunderbolt) and ios is not as buggy as android is.  The biggest thing for me is having a phone that can last me a full day and still keep it's charge (which my tbolt would not do even w/ my screen brightness turned all the way down and 4g, gps turned off) and not to mention apps seem to work better and look better on ios than android versions. I can really go on and on about this. I was skeptical at first because i'm not a huge itunes fan but everything works seamlessly so that should not be an issue.  Another great thing is ios updates come about once a yr and for the most part their updates don't discriminate on certain phones like android does. I always hated that updates would be pushed to only certain devices every 6 mos or so and more often than none your device does not end up supporting android OS updates while only newer phones do which is probably why so many android devices are sold.

    ^This
It is no lesser or better than any other phone. Its a strong smartphone no doubt, very user friendly, and the build quality is outstanding, albeit dated. However, it is not immune to typical smartphone. The significant difference is in how quickly the developers fix bugs. Android users will have to wait months if they aren't familiar with rooting or flashing. That said, it makes it a little more difficult when the manufacturer of the phone and the developer of the operating system are two different entities.
ALSO, apple requires that apps are tested to work correctly before being submitted to the market which makes sense since you would have to pay for majority. Majority of android apps are private or 3rd party made, hence being free. Just brings up the old adage of you get what you pay for I suppose.
For the person who wants to be able to customize their phone to the fullest, have no barriers when it comes to programs they can run, have the ability to maximize performance, and isn't afraid of "getting it to work", Android is awesome. iOS is great for stability, style, and ease of use, and I recommend it to the regular consumer who doesn't bother too much with technical things.
    *sigh*

  • The new android software update?

So I just got the software update for android.. does any one else think it sucks or is it just me? Its slower.. the look isn't the same.. and I can get to some webpages that I used to be able to.. I wouldn't say it was an update it was more like a downgrade.

    Good morning, All.
I have a Droid 2 and yesterday morning, 11/3, I performed the update to the latest System Version, 2.3.20.
    The Android Version is 2.2.
The battery life did increase and the unit was more responsive, but I noticed some BIG problems.
First -- my Corporate E-mai Sync started throwing Certificate Errors -- I know our Exchange 2K7, SP2 server has valid certificates and other Droid users are not having issues with it.
My biggest problem is SMS messaging.
Before the Upgrade, all messages I received from NON-VERIZON users would be displayed in full -- 160 characters and then be split into multiple messages (if needed).
After the upgrade, ONLY Text Messages from Verizon users are being displayed in full.
Any message from NON-Verizon numbers are being cut off --
What I mean is that if the message is 160 characters long, ONLY the LAST 80 characters are being displayed!
I had several Verizon users send me full, 160 character, messages and they are received fine each time.
Similarly, I had NON-Verizon users do the same thing and still, only the last 80 characters are displayed.
I tried a reset, removing the battery and letting it sit for 10 minutes - no good.
I also tried a factory reset from the privacy menu -- it reset, but the problem still exists.
Anyone know if this is a Motorola Software bug or could this be a problem with the unit itself?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!!

  • Why can't we get a straight answer from Apple about updater issues?

Why are there thousands and thousands of posts from people all having the same issue? We try to update IPod software using latest updater, and it causes IPod to no longer be recognized. All we want is someone from Apple to FIX THE PROBLEM! Yet all we get are refferals to complicated articles that never seem to work for at least half the people. Clearly it is a problem with these updaters. WHY IS APPLE NOT FIXING THIS ISSUE? Can anyone give me a straight answer!?

    Hi Wolf,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    "thousands and thousands of posts"
There are roughly 10,300 thread with 50,000 posts in the iPod Nano forum, and there are probably another 500,000 who don't even know it exists. I don't there there has been a thousand posts on the updater issue. It may seem like thousands upon thousands, but don't forget; you're at an Apple Support Forum.
"All we want is someone from Apple to FIX THE PROBLEM!thousands and thousands of posts"
There's no need to "shout". I don't think Apple is going to hear you from shouting in a user to user forum. Nor will you probably get a answer (here) from Apple for the same reason. I have a -------- (straight) answer for you. I don't know what's going on specifically (no one really knows in this forum because they are all users. Anyone who would know won't say), but I can assure you that Apple isn't ignoring the issue. They are the quickest to respond to any problem that comes their way. If you would like to get Apple's attention, I don't suggest ranting and raving in the iPod user to user forum. I suggest submitting polite feedback to Apple here.
    Jon

  • Is there a consensus on how to solve security update issues?

    hi,
i'm writing to you from a PPC G4 (AGP graphics) that will self-destruct by the time i switch off and (attempt) to re-start tomorrow. i will then need to do a re-install, just to see if i have gotten any replies (grinds teeth to the root). it will probably be my 8 th re-install in the past month. i just can'st takes no mores, Cap'n
<exasperation>deep breath... each time i have done a clean install, zero-ed all data when erasing (7 times over, on this occasion), repaired permissions before and after each software update, and followed every advice i could find via google to pre-empt another "Error: underlying task reported failure on exit" and the inevitable hanging grey screen; i have earned nothing but another Disk Utility report of the same problem. my HD seems to be OK - Disk Utility and Disk Warrior both say it's "verified" by SMART (although i've read this could be no assurance...). it's 40 GB, nothing else installed but NetBarrier; nothing saved on it (just 3GB of OS).
i've searched this forum over the last weekend and come across a diverse range of methods in resolving software update issues. i have tried downloading the security update and safari 3.2 directly from the site and bypassing Software Update- to no avail (but noticed that they are quite larger in MB than via Software Update??).
the one suggestion the intrigued me was installing the update via Terminal. why would this be any different? the worst thing about this is that there is no universal way that'll work for all, just individual solutions for different macs??? could my problem be exacerbated by using the double layer (double the permissions to fix?) of a Panther OS with Tiger Upgrade disk?
when i last tried to resolve the "error" with safe mode, fsck and DU Repair Disk/Permissions, which initially failed, i resorted to Disk Warrior, which re-built the directory, and "fixed" the HD. when i re-tried fsck it said the HD was "ok", but i still had the "error: underlying task..." on DU?
is there an issue with the Security Update oo8 because it's PRIMARILY for 10.5 and not Tiger? why have some encountered this problem and others escaped any seeming conflicts ? is this problem also caused by JAVA updates (there are, after all, 4 updates!)
more importantly, WHAT CAN I DOOOOOOOO?
    thank you

looking at your suggestion to check /Library/Startup items in the concurrent thread ("Help needed after installing Security Update 2008-008"), i recalled that the only thing i have in this file system is 3 folders concerning Intego, NetBarrier and Virus Barrier. one of these contains the NetBarrier x4 daemon which has no image, just the apple "pencil, ruler, pen on paper" "A" image. i don't think it correctly downloaded, but this the case in every instance.
i'm running netbarrier x4 10.4.5 updated and downloaded on installation. intego Support says that there should be nothing in my "Startup/Login items". i thought they meant Login items (users>login items) because when i take the folders out of my "/Library/Startup items", NetBarrier fails to "initialize".
intego is now on newtbarrier x5, but they say x4 is fully compatible with Tiger???
my baby maybe getting on, but it's strong enough, i just need to know what's bugging it!

  • 10.9.2 Update Issue (VPN) - Eclipse Perl debugger issues while connected to VPN

This post was initially added to this discussion: 10.9.2 Mavericks update issues
I have yet another issue related to 10.9.2 update - Eclipse Perl debugger issues while connected to VPN...
One of the big changes introduced by 10.9.2 update - are VPN changes (security fixes). Unfortunately, whatever these changes are - they "broke" Eclipse (OpenSource IDE) debugger. I am not sure if *all* programming languages (Eclipse plugins) are affected by this, but I know for sure that 'Epic' (Perl plugin) debugger *stopped working* while system is connected through VPN.
Here is the error that gets “popped-up” in the Eclipse:
Timed out while waiting for Perl debugger connection
… and here is exact exception stack that gets printed:
Unable to connect to remote host: 130.10.210.74:5000
    Compilation failed in require.

    END failed--call queue aborted.
    at /Users/valeriy/workspace/ROBO-PROD-RA-685/src/lib/test/Val_test.pm line 0.
(of course IP address changes dynamically for each VPN connection session)…
I was able to prove that this issue is related to 10.9.2 update:
Issue *does not* exist under 10.9.1 (I had to revert back to 10.9.1 to get it working again)
No updates were performed around the same time 10.9.2 update occurred (I verified that using Software Update log)
No configuration changes were introduced around the same time
Reverting back to 10.9.1 using Time Machine (thanks god I had backup !!!) fixed the issue
    Steps to reproduce this issue:
In Eclipse, try to use 'Epic' (Perl plugin) to debug any perl script while *not* connected through VPNEpic debugger works
    Connect to VPN
Start Epic debugger to debug same script
Debugger *does not* start, and "Timed out while waiting for Perl debugger connection" error pop-up comes up after some time. At the same time, exception stack (listed above) is printed in Eclipse's console
I am programmer/software developer, I work remotely (telecommute) and thus have to rely on use of VPN to connect to company's intranet. Perl - is primary language used by my team, and we use Eclipse IDE with Epic plugin - heavily. Use of Epic's debugger - is a *very large* aspect of my work, I cannot work without it. So in essense, 10.9.2 has *entirely* disrupted my ability to work! It took me almost a week to get back to normal work environment, and I cannot afford to let it happen again... I need Apple's development team resolve this VPN related issue, as soon as possible! Because of this issue, I am *stuck* with 10.9.1 and can not upgrade my laptop to any other versions. In fact, I had to disable system updates - just so I do not run into this issue again... I contacted Apple's Tech Support on 02/28 with this issue (Ref: 582428110), asking to raise trouble ticket. Since then, I tried to follow-up on that issue, but do not get any information. Please advise on the status:
is there a trouble ticket to track this issue?
    is there any progress?
what's the ETA for an update that fixes this problem?

Am I the only one experiencing this issue ???

  • My new iPod Classic will not sync with my new Mac Book. My iPhone 5 does, so does 2nd gen. iPod touch. Apple Store cannot figure it out. Tried different Classics on different Macs, same thing. iTunes update issue ?

The iPod Classic I bought a month ago is not synching with my new Mac Book I bought 3 weeks ago. All the software was immediately updated. My iPhone 5 synchs fine, and so does my 2nd generaton iPod Touch. The original computer I synched all of these devices on was my HP latop. I bought my Mac and Classic to the Apple Store for a 'Genius Appt' and they could not figure out what the problem is. The connected my Classic to another computer and the same thing happens. It says device is not recognized. They also took other iPod Classics and connected them to my Mac and other Macs. The same thing was happening. They took notes and said it probably is an iTunes update issue.
I can manually drag songs into my Classic but I lost all playlists because it cannot be backed up as well and they had to restore it. For now I am holding on to it but it's usless to me if I cannot use it the way I liked too. I used it for the gym and bike riding and my last iPod battery died after 6 years. A charge would last 45 miutes. I love the Classic for what I use it for but it's a $275 brick to me now. At least the renewed by receipt so I can get a full refund.
Is anyone else seeing this issue ? The Apple Store employee said he saw a first generation iPad havng the same issue. As of now the Support Dest is unaware of this. As much as I love my new Mac I am disappointed I cannot sync my new Classic to it. Total bummer.
    Any help would be apprecated.

By the way, I totally restored everything. It was ok. It starts to 'unrecognize' my iPod Classic when it comes to synching with iPhoto. After this happened all the menus disappeared from my iPod (music, Podcasts, movies synched fine). It seems to be a problem when synching with iPhoto. It was the same thing before.
