Drop Zone video is cut off

I started using DVD Studio today with a template that has a drop Zone it appears to be cut off on the bottom third now. When I reposition the drop zone size I notice the cut off area changes in size. After two years of using this program... this is a first.

I HAVE THE ANSWER !!!!!!! Now I'm feeling much better, but $299 lighter and 4 days that I will never get back.....
It turns out that everyone with Final Cut Studio Pro 6 that allowed the latest update of Snow Leopard 10.6.5 to install (just a few weeks ago on Nov 10th) got their program corrupted. People with Final Cut Pro 7 already installed were safe.
Here's the fix ....
1. Make sure you turn off "auto updates". Reinstall Snow Leopard, you don't have to erase just use your disk.
2. Then update manually to 10.6.4 by following these steps and downloading the update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048?viewlocale=en_US
3. Now Reinstall Final Cut pro
BUT Here's the rub ....
Do not update the OS X beyond 10.6.4 until you first buy the upgrade to FCP 7
(((big nasty grin)))
Problem solved.
Just remember I went to battle for you.

  • Drop Zone Video Preview

I've gone into settings and changed the timeframe for motion but the drop zone video still plays 30 secs, but I only want it to play for 5 seconds, does anyone know what I'm missing.
    Thanks

    Hi
It is at least possibly to use some buttons like this - But to get this right I had to make special button movies from the big original movie.
My problem started when I used the original movie that I could not go back far enough for the last buttons and not precise enough either - so by making the small button movies I got 100% control.

  • FCP X / Motion 5 Drop Zone Video Freeze Frames Only!

Hmmm, well, I've followed the other discussions here regarding what appears to be an on-going issue with videos not playing (freeze frame only - usually the first frame of the clip) in a Drop Zone.  I'm using the latest versions of both FCP X (10.1.1) and Motion 5 (5.1).  I created a video generator in Motion with 15 drop zones for use in an open for a project I just started on.  These drop zones are sliding left and right in three bands across the canvas.  I can't get any of them to display moving video.  I've used drop zones before and had some success with getting video clips to play in them, but in this case I'm batting zero.
Has anyone found a way around this problem?  I may just import the videos into Motion and render them there since this open more than likely won't ever be used for any other project; nevertheless, I'd like to be able to use the Motion 5 template as it was designed to be used.
    Thanks.

The good news, Russ, is that I've made some progress!  To say that using Drop Zones can be a bit quirky is an understatement!  Nevertheless, your Pro Res hint seems to have fixed my issue.  I've been recutting the clips from the master archived files and saving them as Pro Res 422.  The file size is considerably larger that the H.264 files, but since it works I guess I won't argue that point!  :-)
I need to do a bit more investigation of this next point, but it also seems as if I need to move a frame or three into the clip before inserting it into the drop zone.  I had just been taking the clip and dumping it in as is.  When doing that I noticed that in some cases the clip either didn't play (freeze frame) or it started at some random (or at least what seemed to be random) location within the clip.  However, since I moved the start point in 2 or 3 frames (end point doesn't seem to matter) so far, at least, the clip plays every time and starts from the proper point.
I don't know if this mattered or not, but I completely deleted the library with the project and event that I was originally trying to edit to.  Since it wasn't working anyway there is nothing lost and I felt it was worth starting the project "fresh", so to speak.
So far I've only re-clipped and inserted 5 of the 15 drop zone videos but for now, at least, they are all working!
Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

  • Drop Zones and Final Cut Placeholders

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a generator in Motion 5 that I can use in FCPX.  It's fairly simply - a bunch of drop zones for video or photo content and a camera that travels through them in 3D.  All fine - looks great in Motion, but when I open the generator in FCPX and try to drag content (either video or photos) into the drop zones, the content just becomes a new background rather than filling the drop zones.  I guess I'm probably doing something wrong in Motion rather than FCPX.  If I take any of the pre-defined titles (rather than generators) in FCPX that allow one to add a video clip and drag video content onto those titles, it all works as I would expect - the video sits below the title in the timeline and when I play it back, the video is in the right place.  Why doesn't that work with my drop zones?
(Apologies if this is just a really stupid question and I've misunderstood generators - I can see that if I try to create a title or a transition, then instead of a standard drop zone, I get final cut placeholders to use, and I think those will do what I expect - trouble is I can only have one of them, and I want several.)

I thnk that Adrie is correct. Place the Generator in the timeline
    Then click on it once
In the inspector window, Top Right of the screen you will see the Drop Zone(s)
Click on the Drop Zone Icon in the inpector (see picture) and a message will appear
Locate the clip you want to load into Drop Zone and and click Apply Clip
    That should place it correctly
If you want a photo in a Drop Zone, then drag it from the file browser directly to the Drop Zone in the inspector
    Hope that helps

  • Do the edges of a video get cut-off when added to an iMovie project?

When I view a video clip from the events library it fits in the viewer screen perfectly, i.e., the entire image appears on the screen.  After adding the video clip to my project, when I play the video from the project, the edges appear to have been cut-off, i.e., my giraffe has no head.  Do I need to resize the original video file? How?

Thanks for the idea.  I found a solution to my problem in another discussion between KimsAZmac and AppleMan1958.  If you use stabilization the image is made larger so it doesn't fit in the viewer.  The solution is to turn off stabilization or use the slider on clip adjustments so the image fits the screen.

  • DVD video gets cut off, but preview shows dvd as good

Having a problem getting my video to output from dvd burning without getting cut off.
Computer is Win xp pro, 3gb ram, 2.33ghz cpu, 40gb free hd space
    Using Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0.2.
I have video which I've recorded from my Sanyo xacti 720p avc camera, which records in mpeg4 format. I've converted the video(s) to mpeg 1,2 for dvd using my "Need4 Video Converter 5.9". At first I tried putting several mpeg1's into my premeire project, then I also merged all the video files into one, but still had the same problem.
I put the video(s) into my premiere project, added some titles on the other video track. Also added some music on another audio track. So, the total size of the videos is about 3.5gb. I preview my project it looks great, I added some dvd scenes and used a nice template with scene selection and captions..the works. Now I try to burn it several ways, to a dvd, to a file folder on high or low settings, but everytime I only end up with about 1.5gb of data, and 25 mins of video, so it is cut off. My original video is an hour and 50 mins.
The encoding takes about 3 hrs after I hit burn. No errors or anything.
So, I cannot understand what I need to do. I don't want to convert to a smaller or lower format, bcz I dont' want to lose quality. I'm at a loss bcz I've tried so many different formats and combinations, let this stuff run for so many hours this past weekend, and still can't get it to work. Is there some kind of setting I'm missing? Something in premiere?
I've read some best practices on the forum, and I understand to use bit rate of 7mbs or less, and to burn on slow speed. Is it at all bcz I'm burning it to my hard drive? but i don't think this is my issue. is it the old software? it came with my Sanyo camera, so I would think its good enough.
Please help if you can. I was thinking my next shot might be to convert it down to a much smaller size, and maybe it will fit(but quality may be an issue). Thanks in advance. -Ron

    Ron,
Yes, PE is a scaled down version of P-Pro, but also has some additional features, plus an easier way of doing many things, that its "big brother" does not. As to the ability to Export/Share frame sizes, I think that most are included in PE (would have to open each and explore precisely to tell you if it's all there). I do not think that this is your issue.
As to the conversion, I'd step back to your original footage, Sanyo MP4, right? Unless Sanyo is using a proprietary CODEC to create the MP4's, you *should* be able to Open these files in QuickTime and play them. If you have QuickTime Pro (costs about US$30 to upgrade to "Pro), you *should* be able to Export and choose DV-AVI as your Export setting. Note: the term ".AVI" can mean so very many things. What you want is DV-AVI. This is the "native" format for PE - what it converts all other file formats to, to edit. The quality loss going with this format can be measured in a lab, but is almost totally impossible to see on any TV with the human eye. Doing this will likely enhance your entire editing experience.
As for quality and conversions and compression, your camera has already done one conversion, when it wrote to MP4. You cannot get around that. Conversion to DV-AVI will be "virtually" lossless, though the file size WILL increase. The reason is that with MP4, not all "frames" exist with full content - part of its compression. With DV-AVI each "frame" will exist with full content. Be prepared for LARGE files, but files with all of the info.
Then, when you Burn to DVD, you WILL recompress your data to MPEG-2 format, the DVD standard. You will loose some quality there, but it cannot be avoided. It is how DVD's hold their Audio & Video data.
I still do not have any ideas that would directly affect your movie not burning completely. If the Duration of your movie has exceeded the capacity of a DVD-5, you would/should get an error message to that effect. You do not.
One thing to go back and look for in your original Project's Timeline would be "gaps" in the Video. These can cause problems (or sometimes not). I zoom my Timeline way up, and use the PageUp & PageDn keys to "step" through the various Clips. The CTI (Current Time Indicator - that little doobie that marks where you are on the Timeline) should move in a linear fashion from Clip to Clip. If you see it pause, or hiccup, then zoom WAY in to the max and study the Timeline there. Are all Clips butted up to each other? Now, you can have Clips on Video Tracks above #1, that would allow you to have "gaps" in the Video on VT 1. That is OK, but if you have any spots on the Timeline, where there is NO Video, you'll likely want to fix these. You can close up the gaps by moving the Clips, so that they do butt up, or if you want "black" there, just go to the New icon and choose Black Video. Size it to fit the gap, and you will be fine. You can also extend the Clip before the gap, or after the gap, if that does not mess up your editing. Several choices and each should be based on what you want to have happen. If you find a bunch of gaps (even one can be deadly) try to Export/Burn again. Note: I've seen one 1-frame gap cause problems, but just had to re-edit a Project where I fixed 900+ gaps, and that Project had already Burned 4 DVD's. Go figure.
Last thing to look at would be to hit the "\" key in Timeline mode. This will zoom out to show the full Timeline. Do you have anything stuck out by itself, past where you thought the end was? This should yield other problems, but not the one you are experiencing. Still, who knows? It's also a good thing to do, when you believe you are done, just to check that something didn't get "orphaned" out beyond where one normally looks on the Timeline.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] 01:50 is longish for a DVD-5. You will not be able to set a very high bit-rate (Quality slider), but you should still get the full Timeline, or an error message.

  • Drop zone video playing too fast

I am building a Motion title sequence with a drop zone for video. I placed it into FCPx as a connected clip (purple timeline box), and associated the video under it to the drop zone. It all works except the video dropped in plays super fast, far out of sync with the audio below. Not sure why.
My FCPX timline, source footage and motion file are all the same frame rate, 23.98. Any ideas?

Where can you place a marker en set the project loop end. Because can place a marker and then go to edith marker. But i see no list as above?
    1. Deselect any objects in the Timeline. Select Mark/Markers/Add Marker. If that menu item is not available, make sure there are not layers selected in the Layers window.
    2. A timeline marker will be created at the playhead. When the playhead is on that marker, the Edit Marker menu item will become available.
    3. Select Mark/Markers/Edit Marker. This brings up the dialogue where you can Name, Comment and select the marker type. Choose Project End Loop from the Type menu, then click OK.
    4. Drag the Marker to the end of the timeline.
Adrie, I have not encountered your problem with freezing drop zones. In the past I have had many drop zones playing simultaneously, so it should work. If you suspect that you have a bad install, you should probably reinstall it before troubleshooting any further to eliminate that possibility. I am running a fresh install of 5 on a system that has never had 4 on it.
Where did you find that tutorial? do you have a link.

  • 16:9 video sides cut off when exported from After Effects

When I export a 16:9 video from After Effects, the sides are cut off in the exported clip.  I've tried different export settings and and my composition settings are correct, from what I can tell. Does anyone know why this could be happening?
    Thanks!

and my composition settings are correct, from what I can tell.
But are they really? We cannot know, because you don't say anything about your exact render settings and comp settings, which is what is required here. You could be using an unsuitable CoDec or even crop your output inadvertently by using a specific output module setting....

  • Drop Zones: Video and Alpha Channels

Is it possible to create a drop zone where the asset is a video clip that contains transparency by way of an alpha channel such that portions of the video allow for the background image to show through?
I am familiar with setting up drop zones and custom shapes and I have used static images with transparency, but I've never done the same with video.
I am away from my system right now or I could test this myself. Thanks in advance for the help!

    hi
depending on how complicated your shot is, you may be able to get away with simply placing the image within the frame on top of the background shot. Then resize down to fit. You may then need to tweak its corners using the corner pin tool to get it to sit in the right perspective plane. You may find you need to soften the edges of the top layer image so its not so sharp and hard. For this you probably would need to add a mask and soften its edges. Then you might need to add some noise and/or colour correction to make it sit naturally with the background image. and finally if there are any shadows cast over the picture frame you will need to add them back over the new image. You can use a black shape, with its opacity cranked down with a blur filter on it.
The manual describes all of these process pretty well.

  • Share window says my footage is 100% shared but video is cut off prematurely.

I finished a segment of a wedding video this week.  I used a compressor bundle to export that includes both the Dolby Digital for DVD (for sound) and the MPEG-2 for DVD (for the video).  The share window says the process is 100% complete.  iMac running Mavericks did not "sleep" or anything during the compression period.  HOWEVER, when I bring the project in to DVD Studio Pro the audio is complete (the audio segment always compresses first [and quickly] anyway) but the video segment is cut off about 2/3 the way through.  I trash and double trash the segments... reshare.... same problem!   Never had any problem with this sharing before.  Full project is 3.6 GB to be burned to a 4.7 GB DVD.  Please advise!!

Okay, this was an odd fix.  Apparently the m2v was sharing through compressor completely each time.  When I brought it into DVD Studio Pro it was cut off at the same place each time.  I viewed it in the Track tab of my DVD Studio Pro project and observed each time that the m2v was shorter than the AC3 audio in the viewer.  Finally, and I don't know for what reason, I just stretched the m2v clip out and there it all was!!  Hope this helps someone else that's as clueless as I was!

  • Loss of quality in drop zone video

I am creating a DVD project where I've created a drop zone that is approximately half the size of the screen, split vertically (446 x 480 pixels). I have a video asset I wish to use in this drop zone, but no matter how I export the video (from Motion), it loses quality in the drop zone. It is not a matter of bad compression settings. It almost appears as if the footage has been scaled up from a smaller image.
Is there a limit to the resolution of a drop zone? If I scale down the image, the video looks crisp again... of course then my original layout is no longer intact.
Any idea of a workaround for this? Hopefully I am not missing something obvious.
    thanks,
    ak

You really don't have to use drop zones at all, just make everything part of the background. you might have to combine your motion workflow with some editing in FCP. I would suggest not using Uncompressed Animation, but simply using the DV-NTSC project preset.
You have the option to either import the .motn file directly into DVDSP, exporting your motion project as a quicktime movie, or a quick edit in FCP and export as a quicktime movie. I would suggest whichever route you take, export it as a quicktime movie and use compressor to encode to MPEG2 before importing your asset into DVDSP. This will give your greater flexibilty and control on the quailty of your final video.
