Dual (Independent Mode) Thunderbolt Drive (5K iMac) - Second drive not showing in Windows but shows in OSX

Hello everyone,
I have a (2014) 5K iMac.
I'm running an "OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual" hard drive running two drives running in Independent mode.
This enclosure has 1x USB3 and 2x Thunderbolt ports (one extra for daisy-chaining).
I have two 6TB drives in this enclosure which run perfectly in OSX under thunderbolt.
In bootcamp the two drives only work with the USB connection when using thunderbolt ONLY the first drive is shown.
I need to use Thunderbolt because all my USB ports are already used.
I am running Windows 8.1 installed using Bootcamp Assistant.
I have had this problem since getting my iMac at launch but now I'm already using too many USB ports including some HUBS.
I have done many web searches, I cannot seem to find someone else with the same problem. I have also noticed the new 5K iMac fixed many of the older problems of Thunderbolt with Bootcamp.
Hopefully there is something I can do to resolve this?
Thank you for your time.

While the enclosure supports daisy-chaining, I'm not using that feature.
The enclosure with two drives inside is connected directly to my mac using the supplied thunderbolt cable.
I'd also like to ask if anyone uses an enclosure that supports 2 or more drives with thunderbolt on a Mac using Windows 8?
If it works for anyone and they can see all the drives that would mean the issue relies with me or my configuration rather than the entire mac ecosystem.
I have a feeling I had seen someone else with my problem in my earlier Google searches 6 months ago. But now I cannot find anything, not sure if I'm using the correct search terms or it was a false memory on my part.
Anyways, thank you for your response

  • CD Drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs - this happens any time I upgrade itunes

I just upgraded to the new version of itunes for my ipod touch.  My CD Drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs occurs and it does not show up listed as part of my computer.  How can I fix this?

Your DVD drive? Why would this be missing after a iTunes download?

  • IMac disk drive problem, iMac disk drive problem

Hi.  Don't have original software disks.  Anything I need to do before I bring in my iMac to the Genius Bar?   I haven't been able to backup via time machine since I've purchased this iMac a few years ago.   Any helpful insights or suggestions?

You will need an external disk drive that's freshly erased.
Clone Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
         5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Shutdown and reboot hangs usually are caused by applications or other processes that have crashed and are interfering with the shutdown process. Open Console in the Utilities folder to see if there are messages indicating what specifically is causing the problem.
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  See if any running process is listed in red or is otherwise shown as not responding.
Before you do a shutdown you could instead try quitting every open program you have run. If one or more refuse to quit then you know which is causing the problem.

  • Windows XP running on iMac, USB Printer not detected on Windows

    Hi all,
I'm pretty sure this is not a Mac issue, however I've been trying to understand this problem and I didn't find a proper solution, maybe some of you can help with that.
    The situation is:
iMac running Mac OS X 10.4.10 working fine with a Xerox Printer 8550 connected with a USB cable, however, in the same system my colleague has a Windows XP installed with BootCamp, the problem is that Windows Xp cannot detect the USB printer, have you heard anything like that before?
    Any help is welcome.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind Regards
    Alatryste

    should be only driver problem?

  • Bonjour drive not in 10.6 but show in 10.4

I have a Western Digital Live Media Hub. The drive shows up in  my network connected computer with 10.4.11 and my iPods. But I can not connect to the drive with a MacBook Pro on 10.6.7.
I have a Cisco EPC3925 wireless modem/router that is connected via ethernet to the WDTV hub. Both computers iMac-10.4 and MacBook Pro 13 " 5.5 with 10.6, are connected through WiFi. The iPods also work on WiFi.
What can be the problem? Can it be that 10.6.7 does not 'match' the cisco modem? I had it replaced and before with a thompson modem everything worked ok.
I can see the iMac on my MacBook and I can see the MacBook on my iMac. But I cannot see the media-drive on my MacBook.

    Hi Eric,
That was checked all the time. However I did make a mistake in my original post. I can see the hub on my iMac 10.4.11 but not on my iPods....
However, since the WDTV hub has a Twonky server built in, I can connect to the device from my MacBook Pro. I can  use a web-browser and type in the ip address to connect to the hub and activate twonky after wich I can use that.

  • Time machine tried to clear my hard drive and I chose "NO" yet hard drive is now showing no files but shows space is still used?

yesterday morning I was working and a window randomly popped up for time machine. I don't have the exact wording that was on the pop up window because I assumed it wasn't spam as it was asking me to choose a place to store my time machine backup. I've never seen this window before but just a couple week ago I was having storage problems and hae tried to fix them by clearing some files. So I assumed this window was about helping clear some space on the computer. So I chose my silver hard drive to use for the backup for time machine. 20 min later I get another pop up that is asking me if I'm sure I want to choose my silver hard drive as it will erase anything that is currently on the drive - I immediately panicked and chose "NO" for it to not use the hard drive. I assumed I was in the clear at this point. But I didn't check the drive until later yestsrday evening and now the folder is empty when I open the drive. Yet when I check the space available on the drive it shows over 400G that's taken and 600+G that's available which means the files I had on there are still there but I can't see them? Where have they gone? And was this time machine pop up window spam? I opened my time machine and it was turned off?

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide /Volumes/ as the path.

  • IMac G4 says it's not connected to Internet but shows it is...

Hi, I'm not even sure I'm in the right place, but I have a few questions.
At first when I connected my iMac G4 to the Internet it kept giving me "there is an error connecting to "XXXXX" network" type thing.
Now, since I pressed Cmd, Option, O & F and did the rest-nvram and reset-all, when it boots it is showing it is connected to the internet but as soon as I've clicked network diagnostics and tried to go through that dialog box it will disconnect me from the wireless connection and go back to the error dialog mentioned above.
I just bought this, though the Airport Card was wacky so I replaced that.
It recognizes it in the "About Mac" "More Info" "Network" thing.
I've troubleshooted this beyond belief, and I need a more in depth help than just a simple "try restarting the computer"
    "try restarting the router"
I have tried this with several routers, all different internet connections, the whole nine yards.
HELP ME PLEASE, I AM SO FRUSTRATED!

I just bought this, though the Airport Card was wacky so I replaced that.
It recognizes it in the "About Mac" "More Info" "Network" thing.
So, you have tried two Airport Cards?  Both have not worked?
I'd turn off encryption for testing.   The card is rather slow. 10mhz.
Might be best to pack the cards in and try a usb dongle.
    Ethernet Bridge
Ethernet Bridge  "The versatile Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge can make any wired Ethernet-equipped device a part of your wireless network."  from linksys example: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-RE1000-Wireless-N-Range-Extender/dp/B005FDXMJS/ref =sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314563758&sr=8-1
This linksys bridge is the safest solution since it doesn't require any Mac OS drivers.
Airport ExpressAirport Express is an external unit and you can configure it as a bridge.  802.11n ( I bevieve you will need a more modern version of Mac OS X to configure.  Sadly, Apple uses a configuration program to configure, not a web browser. )

Newer Technology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b USB Adapter. The easiest way to add Wireless Connectivity to ANY computer! 'n' speed is the newest and fastest. $29.99 http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MXP802NU2C/
You better give OWC 1-800-275-4676 a call to verify that these USB dongles will work with 10.3.
You would be better off with the more expensive dongle. The letters n/g/b correspond to the speed of the data transfer.  You should match the speed to your existing router. You best match on the highest speed. N is the highest. G is middle.  b is lowest.

  • IMac Bluetooth Keyboard Not Working On Windows 8 :/

Well I've had an iMac for about 2 years already and my keyboard and mouse have been working flawlessly! Oh and I only use Windows 7 on Boot Camp and I've had no problems what so ever UNTIL I upgraded to Windows 8 about a week ago and that's when the problem starts. When I play games on Steam my keys on my keyboard work flawlessly like always but when it comes to typing words say like in the Internet or ANYTHING other then my games it DOESN'T WORK! Please if you have the same problem or know how to fix it please tell me. Thanks in advance! :)

if your signature say win8 does that imply that you used to run win8 and it worked there but not with win8.1
if so then you may have to wait for apple to release official support for win8.1 in terms of new drivers you can likely download from their site as a zip
at least thats what I hope will solve my huge page pool fatal bluescreen crashes in win8.1
which I also suffered from in win8 before the official amd drivers was released

  • I have a dual boot with Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7, with linked profiles. When I upgraded to 4.0, my tabs and settings would show in Windows, but not Ubuntu. How do I fix this?

This worked when I first installed and booted in Ubuntu. When I booted in windows, my tabs which were open in Ubuntu opened in Wndows. But, when I booted back into Ubuntu, all of my tabs and pinned tabs were gone, as well as the firefox button. My bookmarks and firefox background remained, but none of my tab settings.

Norton is due to release a patch for both IE9 and Firefox 4 in May. See [http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-compatibility-with-IE9-and-FF4/td-p/420020 Norton compatibility with IE9 and FF4]
To revert to 3.6.16, do the following.
    * Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.16] and download it to the desktop.
    * Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to Mozilla Firefox and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
    * Then reboot and delete the folder called Mozilla Firefox at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    * Finally run the installation file you downloaded.

  • Moving iPhoto library to a second drive bay on a MacPro

My iPhoto library is 190 GB and I need to move it to an alternate drive bay on my MacPro. I copied (not moved) the library over to the new drive. When I launch iPhoto, it still uses the original iPhoto library on the home drive (even if I launch with Alt iPhoto). I was expecting to be asked in a dialog which library I wanted to point to, but I didn't get a dialog. Is that because it's on a different drive, not just a different folder? Before I delete the original library I want to make sure I have done this properly and iPhoto is pointing to the new drive bay.
    Thank you.

When you depress the option (alt) key and launch iPhoto you should get a window showing all of your iPhoto libraries so you can select one - are you not getting this window or does it contain only one library?
TO verify where the library you are using is launch iPhoto and open an event - select a photo and right click (control click) on it and select the show file (or shoe original file) option and see the path to it (I like the column view to do this)
if you find that you do not have a valid iPhoto library on the second drive just quit iPhoto and trash the one you copied to the second drive and drag the iPhoto library as a single entity (just one drag operation) from the pictures folder on the first drive to the second drive and launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key - you should see both libraries not - select the one on the second drive, test it and then you can quit iPhoto and delete the one on the first drive ( I suggest launching iPhoto one more time and verifying that things are good before emptying the trash)

  • Does time machine back up second drives

I have a second drive installed in my MacBook Pro for document storage, etc.  I replaced my optical drive with a second drive.  Does Time Machine back up the second drive as well?

Open the Time Machine pane of System Preferences and verify that the drive isn't excluded. Drives in some formats, such as FAT32, can't be backed up by Time Machine.

  • Install Leopard of Second Drive

I've just purchased a Mac Mini Server and want to install Snow Leopard on the second drive. As the MMS doesn't have a disk drive I am using the disk drive on my Macbook Pro as a remote drive. Everything goes ok until about 20 minutes from the end when it tries to restart. Everytime I get the dreaded kernal panic and then I have to press Alt key to restart on the server drive. When I then look at the second drive there are a load of what looks like installation files. Does the MMS need to see the remote drive during this restart and, if so, is it not seeing what is causing the problem.
Is it possible to install Snow Leopard by doing a superduper copy of my Macbook Pro onto an external drive and then superduper it back from the external drive to the second drive of the MMS?

You should not install a retail version of Mac OS X 10.6.x on a new Mac mini. Nor should you install a clone of your MacBook as suggested. Neither has all of the software necessary to interface with your Mac mini's new hardware. The only version currently that will interface properly with all of the hardware is the Install Disk version shipping with the new Mac minis and Apple has refused to sell them to folks who bought a Server.

  • IMac hard drive space

My iMac has duplicates of every song on my hard drive. The duplicates do not appear in iTunes but they show twice in my finder window. How do i get rid of them all to reduce the amount of used hard drive space?

Both files for each song are stored in the same folder, or in different folders?
Does the duplication occur when you add the song to the library, or at some other time? If other time, what are you doing in iTunes when it happens?

  • IMac G5 will not start.

Hello folks, I believe I have quite a tricky problem.
I have an iMac G5 with OS X Snow Leopard (10.5.8) installed. This morning I went to reboot it all and re-install the OS, as it has been a long time since I had done so previously. This carried through well, and I proceeded to run boot camp assistant so as to partition my computer with Windows XP SP2.
It is at this point I should add that my disc drive on the mac is very faulty, and i have been using an external Samsung disc drive to install the software which has thus far seemed readable and compatible.
After putting the XP disc in and commencing installation, the computer restarted and did not recognise the disk. When I tried again, the computer restarted to the point where I was blocked by alternating images of the apple logo and a no permission symbol, as well as the occasional appearance of a folder with a question mark on it.
Now, I really need advice for simply how to get my computer to a point where i can start from absolute scratch. Unfortunately, I cannot do this as I can get no further than the original screen.
    I have tried the following:
Pressing 'c', to run through the disk.
Pressing 'x', as to force the start up mode.
Pressing 'shift', to enter safe mode.
Pressing 'cmd' and 's', which supposedly works occasionally.
Pressing 'alt', just in case it was confused between hard drives
Pressing 'cmd', 'ctrl', 'r' and 'p', which again is supposedly useful.
Unplugging from the socket for hours on end.
Unplugging all external connections to the iMac.
I have quite frankly, exhausted all my ideas. If any of you have any insight, it would be greatly appreciated. Remember that my disk drive is external, as i believe that part of the problem rests there.

    Hi Aaron,
When the family first got the computer (I inherited it, hence my need to run Windows OS primarily), it had the Tiger OS, meaning I had to install bootcamp separately so as to put Windows on. However, a few years later, we bought the Snow Leopard system and it had bootcamp in the program already, so it just made the process more convenient. As well as this, installing Windows or rebooting it had never been a problem.
Unfortunately, I do not have anything to use FireWire with. I have an iPod, but no other products in which to connect. I say this because somebody said that when they received the rror symbols, connecting it with a MacBook Pro through FireWire seemed to do the trick. However, I do not have this resource at my disposal.
I honestly believe that if my disk drive functioned correctly, therw would not be a problem, but perhaps the Mac can't quite adopt the external drive while in its preliminary loading stages. Getting the drive itself fixed would cost more than the value of the actual computer, so I do not wish to do that.
I am trying to put the disk on a USB, so as to try and reboot it all through that, though it seems improbable. However, I will ddefinitely let you know how that works out.
Thanks for your reply by the way, if you suddenly come up with any new ideas, please let me know!
