During spell check (Pages), how to eliminate red underling?

Hello:
During spell check (Pages), how to eliminate red underling?
This is a personal preference: I always spell check when finishing my work, don't want the visual distraction for the underlines.
Thanks,
Laurence Misterioso

Laurence,
Go to the Edit menu and enter the Spelling settings there. Deselect "Check spelling as you type".

How can I change the spell check in the PAGES app in my IPAD?
My IPAD is in english and I write in english and portuguese.
    Thanks.

Spell check is supposed to follow the keyboard, but Pages has a bug and follows the OS user interface language instead.

  • OS X spell checker worthless; how can it be edited?

The advice in Mac Help, "If you accidentally add a misspelled word to the dictionary, type the misspelling in the Spelling dialog, then click Forget" is ridiculous. How do I know how I misspelled it? I know I have misspelled words in my dictionary; the longer I use my spell checker, the less effective it becomes.
Is there any way of actually seeing the list of words I've added? We used to be able to do that with a third-party spellchecker (I think Spell Catcher?), and editing out errors was simple.
Example: "cstcher" is accepted as correct. Selecting it, going to Edit > Spelling > Spelling, 'guess' field is grayed out; writing "cstcher" in correct field activates Guess, clicking Guess produces nothing, clicking Forget seems to accomplish nothing; "cstcher" is still accepted as correct. "rediculous" is accepted as correct and does not produce any guesses unless I add it into the guess field.
I need a spell checker that works! Most of the words that I misspell are not identified as misspelled.

This is what I actually wrote; reply evidently corrupted three times in both Safari and Firefox. I’ve restarted; hope this posts.
Francine, thank you. I opened ‘en’ with TextEdit, and there were only about 50 words (impossible to count accurately), and except for ‘√©s‘, and ‘
So this solved my first problem: how to edit it. Surely an inferior editor.
But I’ve still got the spell checker malfunctioning...
Oh well, I did upgrade to Spell Catcher X 10.2.2, as Matthew Whiting first suggested; SC X seems better now than it was when I quit using it a couple of years ago. Perhaps between the two... But why Apple’s spell checker doesn’t inform me of misspellings is still a mystery. The words I’d mentioned (cstcher - rediculous) are not in the ‘en’ file, and interestingly enough, they both have red lines under them in this post...
Thanks for taking the time to find tis answer for me... (Hey, know what? I just spelled ‘this’ as ‘tis’, and no red underline. And it’s not in the dictionary or the ‘en’ file...)
And Spell Checker didn’t catch it either. Says it is correct, in the Proximity/Franklin U.S. English Thesaurus, so I unchecked that reference.

  • I'm trying to help a person in Sweden, who presumably has a Swedish version of Firefox, and needs an English spell checker. How can this be accomplished?

The person is Swedish, so it makes sense to have the Swedish version, but she is contributing to Wikipedia, and making a number of spelling errors. I am trying to help her, so that she can optionally turn on an English spellchecker. I see how to add other language packs to my version, so it may be that she has to look for the comparable page on her browser? If that works and she installs a language pack, how does one turn it on or off? She is a self-confessed computer illiterate, so I would like to give her precise advice.

*You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
    * Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
    * Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.
You can enable or disable spell checking globally:

  • Czech spell checker Pages 09 v4.2 (1008)?

    Hi all,
I cannot find a Czech spellchecker in Pages 09 (latest version downloaded 24.10.2012). Is there some way how to install it or simply there is no dictionary for Pages, yet? I have a Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    Thankx a lot,
    Lukas

Spellcheck is provide by the OS, not Pages.  For czech you would need to install something extra

  • Spell Check - Pages 4.0, Pages 4.3

I have both Pages 4.0 and 4.3 as separate applications. I wanted to keep a backup version of iWork '09 after changes which were made to Keynote.
The problem I am experiencing is with the Spell Check and Grammar Check. Neither feature is working in 4.0 as well as 4.3. I typed the word "asfjdifsdajf" in the middle of a sentence and it did not pick up on any mistakes.
I have set the language to English in both versions of the application and have tried quitting each and reopening them, but it is still not working.
    Thanks,

  • Crash during spell check

I have CS3 and when I do a spell check of the entire document I get about half way and it crashes. I can spell check individual stories within the document, but not the entire document. Any ideas?

Presumably you've tried checking the story where it crashes?
You might want to try replacing your preferences. Also, is this problem related to a specific document, but not others (in which case it isn't prefs, and you should export the doc to .inx), or is it happening in all documents, old and new? What patch version of ID are you using? What version of Windows, how much RAM, etc.?

  • IDCS6 (PC) stops working during spell check

This is happening repeatedly. Our small office is using our own custom dictionary for spelling that I just recently created. Based on an article on another website IU have followed its suggestion for placing the dictionary on your server (rather than workstation C drive) so that all work stations can use and point to the same dictionary. Not only is the dictionary newly created (by exporting it from our old ID2 dictionary) but the entire IDCS6 installation is only a week old and is still being setup by me. Below arescreen shots that occur after using the spelling check for a minute or so. Any idea of what might be going on and how to fix it?

    Thx @ Peter
"Do you still get crashing if you move the dictionary back to the user profile where ID is expecting to find it?"  I have not tried that and probably will do so. While it'd help diagnose whether problem is that Indd does NOT like having dictionary on server, I really don't want to take the time. Indd Help clearly states and recommends that custom dictionary be on server in these circumstances so that every work station is applying the same spelling and hyphenation rules.
I appreciate your response and your unwillingness to bash Microsoft as I had, but my own experience is that Microsoft (and other large companies) often act in ways to promote their own solutions and products and intentionally or unintentionally make it more challenging for other software (or other products) to work with their operating system (or whatever it is that they sell).
If it seems warranted, I will report back here if from more actual use and experience I have something of value to add. Again thanks ...

  • Pages 5.5 Spell check

Why doesn't the spell check in Pages 5.5 work at all?  Anyone else having this problem?
(God, I wish they'd bring back AppleWorks...)

I'm having the exact same problem as you, Bmartinak, and don't use spelling corrections while I'm typing for very similar reasons.
Using: MacBook Pro June 2011, Yosemite, Pages 5.5. Spellcheck stopped working after I installed Yosemite and upgraded to the new pages, so I presume it's a bug. Wondering if anyone has found a Terminal fix or some other workaround. And Tom Gewecke, your reference to the "afterwards feature" rather dates you and me (and maybe Bmartiniak)...  this "feature" is how things used to happen back in the day: we wrote something as correctly as possible the first time, and checked it for mistakes afterwards, then fixed them. Typewriter ribbon with white-out was an innovation. God I'm old. I just want to be able to write on a clean page and then hit a button to perform a spell check. How complicated is that?

  • Mac Mail v. 7.1 (1827) spell checker makes spelling suggestions that are MISSPELLED!

I haven't been able to find this anywhere on the web so far, so thought I would post it here.
I am running Mavericks (v10.9.1) on a Mac Book Pro 17" (Early 2011).
When typing in Mac Mail (or Pages, etc.), my auto-spell check frequently makes suggestions that are misspelled.  For example, I typed "availabillty", and the auto-checker suggested "AVAILABILTY"(!?!).  The correct spelling, of course, being AVAILABILITY.
This has happened several times before, and I just didn't document any of the other misspellings.  I will add others, if that makes a difference.
I've tried to find access to the library to make corrections to the internal misspellings, but cannot seem to find and assuming not accessible??
Please help!  This is an incredibly annoying problem, making the spell-checking functionality essentially worthless having to stop and "spell-check the spell-checker" everytime.

    Pedro,
Thanks, I apprecaite the info, but you did not address my question.  The links you provided just explained the basics of spell-checking and how to do things like "learn new words".  The do not provide any "information regarding what I'm trying to accomplish".
Perhaps I didn't explain my problem clearly enough:  My problem is there are INCORRECT suggestions being made by the Apple spell-checker (or whatever library it's using).  In other words, I'm spelling a word correctly, and the auto-spell-checker is suggesting incorrect spellings to my correctly spelled word.
What I'm trying to accomplish is getting misspelled words out of the auto-correction library (and also figure out how they got in there in the first place).  Is there a way to edit the existing words in the spell-checking library (not just adding new ones, as the link you provided pointed out).
    Thanks,
    Dan

    I am also using jacob.jar 1.8 ....
Why do not you try what I did ? Use the webutil demo form to test basic OLE functionality first ... then add your code to the Form ... that should test your webutil configuration ...

  • New User, Spell Check?

Was a PC girl for a long time and happily made the switch over to apple recently. I understand how to use the spell check, but was wondering if there is anyway to just use your mouse and clicker to spell check, like how PC's do it, instead of going through the motions of the edit tab, then getting in... I know there is no right click on the apple, but I was wondering if there is anymore more convenient way to spell check while typing then the edit button.

    Hi Jen,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Pages 08 forum.
Actually, if you were using Apple's Mighty Mouse you'd be able to do left clicks, right clicks and two other types of click.
On Macs with single button mice (or with trackpads which do not support left and right clicking) you can perform the equivalent of a right click by clikcking while holding down the control (or ctrl) key. A control-click in a Pages document brings up a contextual menu that includes spell check.
Check the Keyboard and Mouse pane in System Preferences. You may find that your trackpad does support right clicks. Mine does not, but mine is on a 2005 iBook, not a current MacBook.
    Regards,
    Barry
