Dynamic Text - partially working

If anyone is willing to assist me with this, it would be
greatly appreciated.
I've created an interactive animation. On load, a number
appears in the dynamic text box. When button one is pushed, the
number needs to change; when button two is pushed, the number needs
to 'clear' - be replaced by '-.-'.
The '-.-' shows up; the second number does not. For
reference, in the code below, the 4.5 is in temp_txt on load; when
the minmax_btn is pressed, no numbers show up in min_txt or
max_txt; when the reset_btn is pressed, the '-.-' shows up in
min_txt and max_txt.
What have I got wrong in here?

It's me again...
Here is a simplified version of my code which doesn't change
the result but which is only using recognized properties in AS2 (I
got rid of "viewableRows" which was questionable...)
The only problem is:
How to make the second (or the third, the fourth, etc) page
start printing at line (row) 81 instead of 20?
I think the script "believes" that it must print 80 lines
whichever the text is.
To do so, it prints the FIRST 80 lines on page one then it
prints the LAST 80 lines of the text.
Is it a schizo script? :-)
Gerry
In real world, printFld has fixed dimensions (525, 650) and
is automatically populated by other functions (text is always the
result of a search and the search functions automatically format
the text and send it to this field)

  • Setting dynamic text not working in AS2

    I'm working on a complex file given to me by another designer
    and I'm having a problem with being able to set dynamic text.
    Basically, I just want to set the text of a nested instance (e.g.,
    with an instance called foo and a instance inside foo called bar,
    I'm using foo.bar.text = "test".) This works beautifully and as
    expected in a test file. But when I move the symbols and code to
    the other designer's file, nothing happens. I.e., the dynamic text
    is blank.
    I feel confident that I'm not making any errors (I'm using
    tested code and symbols!), but I cannot think what else could be
    causing the error. Mine is the only ActionScript in the entire
    file.
    Are there bugs with dynamic text? Could this have to do with
    font substitution? I did change the fonts to Arial and "device
    fonts" without effect.
    Thanks!

    I appreciate your taking the time to help me and others on
    this board. (I actually have another -- probably related question
    -- that has never been answered, but that one is more confusing
    because it involved multiple language support and worked *until* I
    embedded the font.)
    My understanding of Flash is definitely a mixed bag. I have
    encountered so many problems (really quirks) with Flash that I kind
    of start with the assumption that I'm dealing with something
    quirky.
    In this case, since I don't know your style, I just couldn't
    see where you were going with your questions. In any case, thanks.
    I'm smarter re Flash as a result of your help.

  • Using alerts with variables-"dynamic text" not working

    Hello all,
    I'm triggering an alert from a BPM, and have set the flag "dynamic text" on for the alert category associated with it. I'm doing it in a similar way to the blog 1382 by Michal:
    [/people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/03/13/alerts-with-variables-from-the-messages-payload-xi--updated|/people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/03/13/alerts-with-variables-from-the-messages-payload-xi--updated]
    The only difference is that I'm just assigning a fixed text instead of a payload element to the container element, which I've defined as simple type - string.
    However, the text of the alert doesn't show anything. I'm getting an email with just "Process <id>" as the subject and "Alert ID: <number>" in the body of the email (the same in the Alert Inbox).
    I'm starting to think that there could be something wrong in PI 7.1 which I'm using, as I've configured other alerts in scenarios without BPM without problem.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

    I've solved it using an alert from the Enterprise Services Builder (Integration Repository). It's a new feature in PI 7.1. It seems the tab "Container" in the alert category didn't exist before (that's why you don't find it in the weblogs of Michal and others) and now you have to use it.

  • Using Dynamic Text In iOS Applications

    Hey everyone,
    I'm trying to create a simple iOS app.  I want to add a Dynamic Text box into the stage that will show the score, but every time I do so, the application encounters serious lag trouble.  I'm using _sans font.
    Does anyone have a method for using Dynamic Text that works well in iOS?

    I had lots of lag when I used a TLF textfield... but decent performance when I used a "classic" TextField.

  • Load Multiple Dynamic Text Files in Different frames on Maintimeline

    Hello!
    I have managed to load an external text file in one place one the maintimeline. I would like to do the same thing on other frames. When I go to duplicate the same thing that I did on the first one I get a duplicate textReq request. Do I need to give the textReq a more specific name for each section? When I did this the movie wouldn't even recognize and of the code that was working before.
    Can anyone help me with this code? Thanks in advance
    I am attaching link so you can see sections I am talking about. Also you will notice that the swf file I loaded won't go away. That's another problem...ugh.
    Here is link:
    http://www.sandraschmitt.com/coclico/index100.html
    Here is code on maintimeline:
    stop();
    import fl.transitions.*;
    import fl.transitions.easing.*;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.events.ProgressEvent;
    function startLoad() {
        var swfLoader:Loader = new Loader();
        var swfRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("endlessCoclico3.swf");
        swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onCompleteHandler);
        swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, onProgressHandler);
        swfLoader.load(swfRequest);
    function onCompleteHandler(loadEvent:Event) {
        addChild(loadEvent.currentTarget.content);
    function onProgressHandler(swfProgress:ProgressEvent) {
        var percent:Number = swfProgress.bytesLoaded/swfProgress.bytesTotal;
        trace(percent);
    startLoad();
    //handle events for buttons...
    collections.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    raison.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    stores.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    news.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    contact.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    home.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    function clickSection(evtObj:MouseEvent) {
        //trace shows what's happening... in the output window
        trace("The "+evtObj.target.name+" button was clicked!");
        //go to the section clicked on...
        gotoAndStop(evtObj.target.name);
    Here is code on actual frame where the dynamic text is working:
    //Loaded exteranl text fields
    var textLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var textReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("text_philosophy.txt");
    function textLoaded(event:Event):void {
        philosophy_txt.text = textLoader.data;
    textLoader.load(textReq);
    textLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, textLoaded);

    Textfields:  What I like to do, mainly for peace of mind, is to have a layer that I dedicate to actionscript that only has code in frame 1 but it extends the full length of the timeline so that this code is available to every frame on any other layer.  In this frame I put variables and functions that can get used/shared wherever they happen to be needed.  I usually create another separate layer for actions types of actionscript... stuff that happens at the local frame level, like stop();, or like assigning a variable a new value, etc... things local to being at that frame/location.  So with that in mind
    In frame 1 on my shared-by-everyone layer, I'd probably declare the variable....
    var textReq:URLRequest;
    And when I get to a particular frame where I want to load a new textfield with data, I assign that var its value on the local actions layer...
    textReq = new URLRequest("text_philosophy.txt");
    along with the rest of the local execution regarding loading the file, etc...
    SWF's:
    Yeah, pretty much, and it becomes an object that has a home on the timeline, so if you move away from that frame the swf doesn't follow.

  • Dynamic text in AS2

    Hi all,
    Could someone please help me out with this. **I've attached an image of the swf file.
    I'd like to be able to click on each of the buttons and have the background color change and also have its color name loaded in the dynamic text field.
    E.g. Clicking the white square would change the background color to white and should also display the text ''white'' in the dynamic text box.
    I've sorted out the colour changing part with the following code:
    on (press) {
    var colorful = new Color("_root.background");
    colorful.setRGB(0xFFFFFF);
    but I can't seem to get the dynamic text part working. Any ideas? I'd rather not load from an external file as the texts are short.
    Thanks in advance for your help

    give your textfield an instance name, say tf.  then if you're using simple buttons:
    I've sorted out the colour changing part with the following code:
    on (press) {
    var colorful = new Color("_root.background");
    colorful.setRGB(0xFFFFFF);
    tf.text = "0xFFFFFF";
    // if you're using movieclip buttons, use:
    this._parent.tf.text = "0xFFFFFF";

  • Can't get dynamic text in Flash 8 pro to work

    Hi,
    This is driving me nuts. I am using SWObject to send a
    variable to my Flash 8 swf. The swf is basically a header that
    plays a video and I want to put the name of the web page
    dynamically on top of it. Sounds simple right. Well I can not get
    it to work. In the past I have done dynamic text boxes without any
    problem.
    I have uploaded all the files to my clients server (
    including the fla and the HTML page that accesses the swobject code
    I have also tried other more conventional means to load the
    Variables ( in the URL address and using Flashvars with a normal
    object and embed tag ) Nothing seems to work.
    Is there a problem with dynamic text and Flash 8?
    I'm pulling my hair out any help would greatly be
    appreciated, Thanks in advance.
    Zip file on the
    server with all the files

    Hi jimWPX, I have no problems with dynamic text in Flash 8,
    and I see no problems in your file.
    Could it be that the js doesn't parse for Flash 8 correctly?
    A quick check for version seems to suggest that it's embedding with
    tags for v 6 Flash. Might be problematic.
    An alternative is FlashTag.js,
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/flashjavascript/
    which works fine for me also. Hope it helps

  • Dynamic text not loading

    Hello,
    I have a flash movie(cs4) that has dynamic text. I pulled the .swf into Dreamweaver cs4 and uploaded to the server but when the site is up and running it will not load (also some of the buttons won't work either). They are in the same file as the .swf so I'm not sure that the file locations are the issue. Does anyone know why they may not be loading. They load fine when testing in flash. Thanks you.
    Alicia

    The site isnt complete. There is a lot of templates from when I was in school and partial images- just for the sake of testing. www.atomlindesign.com
    I also need to fix other sizing issues and such. I am using Flash and DW CS4 the action script is 2.0 and my txt files, swf, and html files are in the same folder. I tried to publish my flash file into html file and upload to my server without using DW but it didnt work. So, I just pulled the swf into DW so I could have an html file to upload to server. I hope this makes sense. Thank you all for your help.

  • Displaying the result of a calculation in a dynamic text box

    Hi folks,
    I'm having a very minor issue here (operator error, I'm sure ). With the help of some folks here, I've created a series of calculations, and I've got that part down. Now, I just need it to show up in the movie.
    I've created the dynamic text box in Flash (CS3), but when I hit test, it won't show up.
    After all the calculations, I should have a figure that I call totalmoney. My dynamic text box is called total. The user doesn't need to hit anything for it to appear. It just appears as part of the movie.
    Here's my code:
    stop();
    var startDate:Date = new Date(2010,0,12);  // use your  startyear, startmonth, startdate in the new Date() parameters.
    var  currentDate:Date = new Date();  // assuming user's clock is correct and in your  timezone.  else use server date/time.
    var numberOfSeconds:Number =  (currentDate.getTime()-startDate.getTime())/1000;
    var interest:Number =  (numberOfSeconds*0.74356);
    var totalmoney:Number =  (interest+15,000,000);
    function displaytotal(evt:TextEvent):void {
         total.text = "totalmoney";
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Napo

    You didn't have to bury any of the calculations in the function--leaving it as you had it is better.  They could remain where they a=werew, and you'll probably find you want them outside it if you have other plans for using them.  If left inside, they only have scope inside.  In the programming world, it's good to think of functions as things that do one thing and one thing only (though it isn't often practiced that way)--it's called modular design.
    When you place an event as an argument for a function, it typically means that there is an event listener that initiates the call to the function.  If you work with buttons you'll see what I mean.  But if the plan is to create your own call to a function when you desire it as such, not have it driven by an event listener, then you don't need to pass any event to it, though you may pass some other type of variable to it if need be.
    For instance, what you have now will call the function without an argument because the function has the value built into its code....
    displaytotal();
    But you could also make the function a little more generic and set it up to recieve the value instead as an argument...
    function displaytotal(amt:Number):void {
         total.text = String(amt); // an earlier error of mine
    displaytotal(totalmoney);
    That would make your function a little more useful.  Now it could be used to display other Number variables as well.
    // my earlier error was that a textfield displays text, so you need to convert the Number value to s String.
    Hope I'm not confusing you.

  • Dynamic Text Field is not displaying foreign characters... HELP!

    I have a dynamic text field that is not displaying foreign characters properly. They appear as boxes.
    Here's what I've tried.
    Under properties for the text field, I clicked on the embed characters button. In there, I pasted all the special characters I would need and clicked okay. Shouldn't this be enough for the text to display properly? What am I missing? Please help...

    More info: I'm noticing that in the actual dynamic text field in my .FLA file, if I type a foreign character like é, it pops up as a block. My family font is set to New Caledonia... is it possible that New Caledonia doesn't have those particular glyphs? The thing that doesn't make sense to me though is, last year when I made this card, it worked fine with New Caledonia... Any help is greatly appreciated!!

  • EDGE and HTML dynamic text in a "box" with scroll bar

    I'm new to EDGE, a win7pro master collection cs5.5 suite owner. I'm mainly in the Film/Video post production field (mostly AE, PPro, Pshop, IA) but have been branching into web design the last couple of years.  I use Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash. While I'm a expert user with all the Film/video apps, I would say I only have intermediate ability with the web apps. While I understand a lot of programing logic bulding blocks I'm not a coder.
    So since we're told "flash is dead",  my interest in Edge is to try to do some of the things that I can currently do in flash in  EDGE. I was excited when Edge first came out but lost interest when it became obvious that Adobe was not going to offer Edge and Muse to "suite owners" but only in their force feeding of the "Cloud". Better known as the "golden goose" for adobe stockholders and a never ending perpetual hole in the pocket for users. Anyway....
    I spent the last couple of days doing some of the tuts and messing with the UI. It's matured a lot since I was here last.
    I've been working on a flash site for a sports team where one of the pages is a player profile page where college recuriters and other interested parties can view recuriting relavent info/stats about players. This is how it works. While on the "Team" page a users clicks on  a button labled "Player Profiles" . (Animation) A "page" flies in and unfurls from the upper right corner (3d page flips effect created in AE played by flash as a frame SEQ). Once it lands filling most of the center of the screen there is a bright flash. As the brightness fades we see the "page" is a bordered box with a BG image of a ball field(End). (Animation) from behind the border in fly small pictures (player head shots with name and jersey number). They stream in and form a circle like a wagon train and the team logo zooms up from infinity to the center of the circle(End). As the user mouses over a player's pic it zooms up a little and gets brighter (like mouseover image nav thumbs for a image slider). If the user clicks on a player's head shot it flips over and scales up to become a text box with a scrollbar. The content of the box is a mix of images, static and dynamic text fields populated from data in an "player info data base" XML file, and some hyperlinks. It's all kept updated dynamicaly with current stats, info and images from the XML file. There is also a "PDF" button that allows the user to open/save/print a PDF of the player's profile (the PDF's are static files for now but the choice of which pdf to retrive is dynamicaly supplied via the XML file.
    So.... Is Edge now able to do something like this?  Would it need to be a collection of small animations? could these be "assembled" and connected as an asset in dreamweaver ?
    I thought I would approach this from the end (ie click on an image and display a box with dynamic TEXT fileds. ) since that is the most important part, ie displaying the dynamicaly updated profile info.  Sooooo....
    Can Edge display a scrolling text box with Images, static text, and html dynamic text in it??

  • How to use same dynamic text, multiple times in a Movie

    FLASH CS5.5
    How can a dynamic text field be used multiple times, on any
    frame, in any new layer during a Movie?
    ~~
    A number of unique dynamic text fields are being used.
    The intent is to use them each, many times during a Movie.
    (i.e. a users first name)
    They are successfully being "ExternalInterfaced" from a PDF form field.
    (the SWF is displayed within the PDF as a RMA)
    This all works well, IF I only use one instance of the dynamic text field.
    (one use of each unique text field)
    If I try and use that same dynamic text field, again, in a new layer, later in the SWF,
    all of that said, duplicate dynamic text fields do not display.
    ~~
    Stumped!!!
    Thanks in advance for your advice / comments!
    D-

    Thanks Ned,
    I always welcome learning something new.
    I did not know creating a new keyframe,
    creates a new instance.
    Yes, I had used the same dynamic text field instance name in
    numerous, new layers (great observation).
    With the objective to display the User's name throughout
    the timeline (on and off)...
    I'll attempt to paraphrase your solution;
    Use a single layer to display the dynamic text field.
    Extend this layer's timeline throughout the movie, or end use of the dynamic text field.
    Help with this one ??
    Set the visible properties to true or false as need through out the timeline.
    ( Does require an AS3 ? )
    I'll give that a try.....
    ~~
    Side of effect of using the above solution;
    The SWF in it's attempted state, uses the dynamic text field instance, in
    different places, different text sizes, on the stage, throughout the Movie.
    (i.e. the User's first name appears in different sentences...)
    Per the solution above,
    I believe I will be limited to One location, one format setting.
    Is this assumption correct?
    I can make this work from a display / Movie point of view.
    However, your first VAR concept, noted above, might be
    worth exploring should more flexibility be required.
    Thanks for making the time to coach...

  • How do I make dynamic text look static while the HMTL tagging is enabled?

    Hi all,
    I am using flash 8 with AS 2.0.
    I have a dynamic text field where I am setting it's text value through a variable. Now, I need this dynamic text field content to look like static font on runtime. I tried embedding the text field but that makes my file so heavy and most importantly, it disables the HTML tagging on the text field.
    Please suggest me on how to make a dynamic text field content look static on runtime while the HTML tagging is enabled and working fine.
    Thanks.

    I am sorry. But the attachment was not intended for what you
    thought my friend.
    It was there so that there are no confusions for what I mean by look of dynamic and static text fields.
