Early 2009 software-hardware audio problems
I can't seem to put my finger on what is causing the output audio to cease functioning. The problem usually manifests as unable to make any changes to Perferences/Sound where Sound Effects - Output - Input are all greyed out and unselectable and the Audio volume icon (while being checked in the dialogue box) does not appear in the Menu bar (just the space the icon should occupy). Rebooting does not fix the issue, neither does repairing Priviledges/Permissions with Disk Utility.
Unplugging the computer and holding the power button (SMC reset?), then plugging in the power and holding the power ON button until the Mac chimes, has fixed the System Preferences issue, but as I was typing this, the audio started getting fuzzy and then quit.
Moving the Output volume control had no effect, but I was able to restore audio by fiddling with the external speaker cable plug. This procedure does not always fix the issue.
Is this possibly the beginning of the end of the audio board? I'm confused by the System Preferences behavior and the effect of physically pushing the audio jack in and out to restore audio.
Thanks for all replies.
The mini has been shut down for a week. When I shut it down, sound was working beautifully.
Just booted computer up and back to the problem of no Sound effects, no output, no input in the Preferences pane. And there was no "bong" thru the speaker.
Restart, get "bong" and get Audio preferences window to mostly work, but each and every time I try and change the Output volume with the cursor, get a spinning wheel of death and no or minimal output change. Try the keyboard sound up and down keys, get the icon window, but can't move volume much at all, and my key inputs are greatly delayed, up to 2 minutes. Only sound slider that works is on the menu bar, and it is inhibited as the volume icon continues to flash on the screen, reflecting key inputs made minutes ago. The sound icon in the menu bar is still selected, but can't get slider to drop down to make change because color wheel of death is still spinning.
Checked the Force quit, but nothing is shown as "not responding". This looks more and more as if there were some software corruption, but no idea where to look.
The console log is filling up with line after line of failure notes. A small sampling is below:

I have no concept of what the reports indicate, other than is seems to be related to the sound issues. Are there some plist files that could be corrupted?

I have an iMac 20 inch early 2009 software osx 10.8.1(12b19)...i am not able to use my internet, outlook, or any messenger. tried troubleshooting, reseting safari, disabling norton firewall, deleted intego...still no internet. i did delete intego without uninstalling so im wondering if that caused the problem. everytime i try to open safari it displays this: Safari can't open the page: "http://www.yahoo.com/". the error is: "the operation couldn't be completed. Operation not permitted" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:1)
Like nearly all antivirus utilities for OS X, Norton a/k/a Symantec and Intego are worthless junk that will cripple your Mac. Remants of one or both are most likely preventing Safari from communicating.
Search the forums for techniques to eradicate them - simply disabling them or dragging their apps to the Trash is not likely to be sufficient. Start by reading this procedure from Symantec:
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH103489
For Intego: http://support2.intego.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=214
... i did delete intego without uninstalling so im wondering if that caused the problem.
I believe you are correct. Download and run its uninstaller. -
UT 2004 Hardware audio problems, aswell as some other gam
I have an Audigy 9000 (I bought it OEM so all I know is what it tells me in the control panel) and all my drivers are up to date. When in Unreal Tournament 2004 all the music and sound is perfect if I keep it in 3D audio mode but when I Change it to Hardware 3D or HW 3D+EAX it wont play any music and in the intro movie (and the rest of the game) no music plays and alot of the sounds are really quiet while some are rediculously loud. I can play it fine in 3D sound mode but I did not buy a good audio card to replace my integrated 5. sound card just to use the same settings. Does anyone else have this problem and how can I fix it's Also in World of Warcraft no sound comes out during movies and there is no music in the game but all the other sounds play. But UT 2004 is my primary concern, I even tried re-installing it and yes my UT2004 is the latest vers.

Basically if you're having audio problems in Vista, you should look for latest Vista drivers from your chipset manufacturers website (links can be found in the Download forum here), and if you cannot obtain Vista drivers then you should look to buying a new sound card which does have Vista support
Wait and buy a new sound card. Test this first! Install lets say XP and then after your normal soundcard installation "copy" the installed sounddrivers folder for you specific card. Then you paste that folder on a usb drive/cd or another harddrive that you again c/p inside to Vista when thats installed. Check in the device manager for audio and Update that with the drivers from your copied drivers folder from XP if you dont get an automatic driverinstallation. If you do use that guide. Vista will prolly scream that the drivers where'nt checked etc. Skip that mess and just install anyway (on your own risk ofcourse! ) and then reboot the pc. If all goes well as it did for me the sound will now work flawless even if not a specific software that came with the card might do. If this tip didnt work well then its probably time for a total new soundcard that does support Vista 100%. Good Luck!

Early 2009 MacBook backlight inverter problem?
My early 2009 MacBook is having a bit of trouble with the display backlight. Nowadays in order to get the backlight to turn on I need to fiddle around with the display until it comes on, then I have to keep it steady or it may go out again. I have traced the problem to the backlight, because when my screen blacks out if I look real closely or shine a light on it, I can see the stuff on the screen.
I know this can be fixed. I do not want to risk opening the MacBook to do so, because I could probably break something (this once happened when I attempted to repair a PowerBook G4; I wound up disabling the Wi-Fi.) I did hear from someone who had the same problem with the same model early this year, he took it to his nearest Apple Store, and even though it was no longer under warranty, it only cost $45 for the inverter to be replaced! (It also had a chipped palmrest and that helped with the fee too; mine has a somewhat chipped palmrest as well.) Does Apple really do something like that, or would I be better off with a local computer repair shop?
Plrease reply ASAPThe inverter regualtes the power to the back light, i had macbook 2008 inverter break on me and attempted the fix myself. £10 ($15) for the inverter on ebay and about an hour of my time. The reason its a tricky fix is because the inverter is in the hinge of the screen so the whole screen needs to be removed! as i put it back together i was silently praying that i had put everything back right!
it worked fien though! i no 2 year ago when the original owner of that mac took it to be looked at they quoted her £ 150 ($230) to have it fixed so its good to see the price has come down for you! -
After upgrading to Mountain Lion my 2009 (early 2010) iMac mutes audio when awaking or when it goes to sleep. Anybody else having the problem? My other iMacs are not having that problem. I'm not sure if I am missing an option somewhere or what is going on.

Once again thanks for your kindness. I do have carbonite and have all my data saved there as well as my own external drive. I was not sure what etrecheck was, but found it and completed the review. I am attaching it here. I saw the adware warning and will remove it after hearing from you and your thoughts. Again, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Early 2009 MBP 17" Hardware Issues
Hi
Brief :
I'd like to know what i can do to get my hardware problem fixed, I've taken it to an apple service center twice and things are moving VERY slowly, Its been almost 2 months.
More details :
I've recently upgraded from my 2008 17" Macbook Pro which worked perfectly to an early 2009 17" Macbook Pro with 8gb of ram from the apple store.
With this new macbook, I have had many many OSX lockups where the screen turns grey and it tells me to hold down the power button in several languages.
It also fails to resume from suspend almost all of the time, I'm having to reboot and restart all my applications almost every day which is a pain when i have about 5 virtual machines running (using parallels).
I have all the latest software updates.
My 2008 macbook pro went for 17 days once with out a reboot and i expect equal relyability from this one.
I have taken the macbook to the service dealer in hamilton, new zealand twice, Each time they have run tests on it and passed the information to Apple Australia to figure out. The second visit was at the request of apple australia.
I can reproduce the suspend problem by running a CentOS Virtual machine running oracle and then executing a large query in it. The VM is allocated 2gb of ram. With out fail, every time i do this and then suspend the machine, It will not resume.
When can i pursue this problem further?
Is there an apple web site that will give me details on how my call is progressing?
Should i expect this kind of poor service from Apple when one of their products doesn't just work?Actually, this is not all that hard to take care of. You probably have a bad memory chip. This often results in the type of kernel panic that you are experiencing. You can try the Apple Hardware Test. Try the extended memory test. If I recall, you need to hold down the option key to enable it.
One of the chips is likely the culprit. The hard part is finding the bad chip. Strangely enough, you may have times when the system flies along without hitting the faulty address, and then all of sudden, when you do, it causes the message you are receiving. Is the memory third-party, or did you get it from Apple when you bought the machine?
I have run into these same issues in the past. I had an old Powerbook G4 167 mhz that did not exhibit a failing memory chip until after upgrading the system software. Once the memory was replaced, no more issues.

I have an early 2009 24 inch iMac. It is running mavericks. When I attempt to download using the boot camp assistant i get the message " software not currently available from server" So I went to the Boot Camp support website and there are about half a dozen versions of the boot camp download. None of them match my hardware. I tried the one closest, but when I went to run the setup in windows, it says my machine does not support x64. I have installed windows 7 home premium x64....It works, sort of. I cant get sound and my magic mouse behaves badly.
Do I need a different version of windows or is there a compatible version of boot camp for my system? Thanks for reading. If you installed Mavericks then you had Boot Camp 5 installed automatically. If you have tried downloading from Apple's download site you won't find a version other than 4 or 5 that provide a total package.

Early 2009 Macbook display problems
I have a early 2009 macbook (aluminium). when i try to turn it on all that comes up is a lit up black screen, as if it is on but nothing happens. i went in to an apple store and he connected it to an external display but still nothing happened. Please help
That's ALL they did at the Apple Store? Really? Normally they'll run a diagnostic on it and at least tell you what the problem is.
Is the macbook starting up? Do you hear the start up chime? If so I'm guessing that the graphics chip has failed. IF that's the case you'll more than likely need a new logic board. Keep in mind that I'm guessing, it's impossible to diagnose hardware prolems on a user to user message board.
You can always try resetting the SMC and PRAM but I wouldn't hold my breath. -
My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?
I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work). "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon. -
I was resetting my macbookpro 17 (early 2009) to factory settings but was indicating problems on the restore disk. I erased my macintosh hd drive so the hd is empty. What do I do next?
Get an external drive and make a clone of your internal, erase the internal, set it for 1 partition (OSX Journaled) and restore the clone.

I am having trouble sending an audio signal from my computer (mac pro early 2009) to my TV. Is there some interface or adapter that allows /enables the audio input from my computer to be sent to the TV (R,L signal?) any suggestions
just the audio, eh?. If you were using DVI or DisplayPort that might be different, but for audio alone, it shouldn't be that hard. Just grab a 3.5 mm stereo plug to 2 rca cables adapter. Plug the smaller end into the back of your Mac Pro (or the Front), where you see either the headphone or speaker icon). Alt-click on the speaker icon at the top of your screen to show all audio inputs and outputs. Make sure it's set to Line Out. Plug the red and white end into the audio in jacks on the back of your tv and set it to the correct input. I don't know if your tv will allow just the audio to play. Usually one has to connect up something else, but hopefully I'm wrong. If you were using DVI, or DisplayPort, you'd need an active DVI--HDMI adapter or a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but
I don't know for sure

What are the detailed audio specs - Intel iMac 2.66ghz (early 2009)?
Hi, I am wondering what the detailed audio specs are for this system - Intel iMac 2.66ghz (early 2009).
The online description only provides the basics. I would like to know more, such as frequency response, sound to noise ratio, etc. Is this information available anywhere?
Thank you.Apple hasn't posted detailed release notes for the 2009 iMacs yet, but I doubt that the audio specs are any different from those in the 2008 iMac which can be found here.

Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.66 20-Inch (Early 2009) display problems
I have a Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.66 20-Inch (Early 2009) whose screen has gone partially black to be more specific the bottom half of the screen, the screen is split almost in half the top half working fine and the bottom half completely black. The screen does not appear to be crack. Screen went half black while on itunes one day and has been that way ever since, any idea what it could be? (if you go to my profile a picture of the screen is provided)
Thanks for the response, I just installed Snow leopard (10.6.8) but the issue is when I go to the apple store and tried to download Yosemite, I don't see the option to download it. Looked around everywhere and no luck. What I'm doing wrong? I tried also the software update and I just get to the page where says no updates available and shows Yosemite as a free upgrade but when I click on the button nothing happens.
Any help would be really appreciated. -
Audio problems with Rezound, post software update
Hi All,
I had my Rezound for about a month before the firmware upgrade and never experienced any issues with audio playback through my headphones. However, since my phone was updated I'm getting consistent audio glitches. There are two types that I've noticed. The first is a high pitched whine that last for 2-10 seconds before fading out; this has happened consistently since the update. The second is a wave of static that's gets louder and messier until I pull out my headphones and I noticed this yesterday for the first time. I thought the firmware update was in part going to fix the Rezound's audio problem.
Has anyone else had these audio issues since the firmware update?
Is this currently a fixable problem?
Thanks!I also had no problems whatsoever prior to the update, including no audio issues. I have also recently noticed audio problems post update. These problems seem to be very intermittent and I haven't been able to connect their appearance to anything specific. I have noticed 2 problems, the wave of static problem and also a loud "click" that is very noticeable but kind of in the background. I'm ready to pursue other avenues of resolution for all the problems with this phone which I originally loved!! Verizon's answer is "you're stuck with it" or "we're working on it" or "we will send you a used phone" (so I can enjoy experiencing the same problems on a phone from who knows where with who knows what history after paying $300 dollars just 2 months ago)!! I am so tired of having to deal with the boot-looping problem!!! Why is it acceptable to sell or create a defective pricey electronic device with complete impunity? This would not be acceptable and would result in immediate and consequential retaliation in my career! Any one want to discuss what we might be able to do?
