EFI Update won't complete

On a mid2011 MBP w/I7, 4 gig: I downloaded the printer, iPhoto, and latest EFI Firmware update as suggested by software update. They downloaded fine, then the MBP restarted, and the Software Update progress window opened.  It went thru the install routine for all three downloads, then the blue progress bar stopped progressing about 80 percent of the way across (the animation is still working). It says "moving itEms into place". It has been over three hours and that is all it has done.  The screensaver will come on after awhile, the black cursor moves around in response to the trackpad, but the update won't finish.  I,m afraid to power cycle for fear of bricking it.  Any ideas?

Any USB or FW drives attached? You read this right? http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303364 Heres more information: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303609
your drive needs to be a GUID formated partition. You can download a Firmware Restore CD, it should have the latest Firmware for your Mac.http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/firmwarerestorationcd13.html

  • Adobe Muse update won't complete - says up to date in Creative Cloud

I became an Adobe Creative Cloud member yesterday. I downloaded the Muse app on my work computer, and then the update that was popped up and it worked fine. I started to design a website - but when I went home and downloaded the program on my computer the update will not complete. It gets hung up at the same position even after I tried uninstalling Muse and Air (multiple times). Not sure what to do - but I HAVE to be able to work on this website from home and work. Any suggestions?

    Hi Ilhoffman,
Please try to download from the following link :
    For Windows : http://www.adobe.com/go/muse_latest_win
    For MAC : http://www.adobe.com/go/muse_latest_mac
    Hope this helps.

  • TS3694 iTunes Update won't complete because of error message: "Apple Mobile Device failed to start ...".

When updating to the latest iTiunes, download and install work just fine until alomost to the end, when the install stops and I get the following message:  'Service Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.  That's all I get, and install stops completely after asking me to choose either "Abort', or 'Retry',
But I know I have privileges because my iOS devices (iPads, iPad Mini, and iPod Touch) work just fine.
So now, I can't use iTunes on my computer because I can't download the software.
    Great!

  • Updates won't complete

I tried updating apps but about a dozen of them are frozen.  I have powered down completely, tried reloading, etc but nothing is thawing them and I cannot use them when frozen.  Thoughts besides going into the Genius bar?

I have posted this many times and some of the suggestions have worked for other. Give these a try and see if any work for you.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • Been trying to update My iPad software to iOS 7.0.3,  download won't complete it's been 2 days, some apps also won't complete downloading

Been trying to update my software to iOS 7.03 but it. Won't complete, it's make some apps stuck too, please help

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.
If that doesn;t work, you can try updating through iTunes.

  • I was recently prompted to update iPhoto and make changes to the library.  I did it but it keeps hanging up in step 5 or 6 and won't complete the cycle.  I have used force quit, rebooted and started again several times.  How do i get this to work?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    If that fails:
Restore from your back up, repair the Library and try again.

i'm wondering if i can use my macbook pro to override the update that  is incomplete.

What does this have to do with Classic operating systems?  They won't run on a Macbook anyway.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • EFI Update 2.0 won't install

Every time I try to install the 2.0 EFI update the machine restarts, beeps, bongs, shows the firmware update screen briefly, restarts and bongs again, then goes into a cycle of doing this a couple more times before eventually giving up and booting. The update isn't installed. I've tried this probably about ten times now without any joy.
Nearly new 13" MacBook Air, basic 1.86GHz/2GB/128GB spec. Next to nothing installed software wise, didn't migrate from any other Macs.

Does Software Update indicate that you need to install the EFI Update? The EFI Update was already installed on the MacBook Air that I received yesterday. In addition, Snow Leopard 10.6.5 was on the USB Stick that came with the computer, not 10.6.4.

  • My CS6 won't complete update

I want to update my CS6 because it quits unexpected over and over very often but update won't complete

You should ask this in the Photoshop forum, not the PSE forum:

CS6 is very different in many ways from PSE. Good luck!

  • Lion won't start after EFI update

I installed the new EFI update for my MBA Mid 2011 (the software updater said it is recomended). The update went fine and restarted the mac afterwards.
Then while booting the apple logo turns to a grey forbidden sign and nothing happens from there. I turned the mac off and tried again. Same thing.
Then I booted the recovery partition and tried to repair my disk. It says that it can't repair the disk because it is corrupted.
Please don't tell me I have to erase the disk. There is some unbackuped data on it and I can't get it out using a linux-live because my disk is encrypted.

It seems that my partition table is corrupted. The question now is. How to fix it?

  • EFI updates how critical

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro 15" 5,5 turning up this week and I will be wiping the drive completly and installing Ubuntu instead.
What are the implications of this with regards to future EFI updates? As I won't be able to boot into Snow Leopard as it won't exist to be able to run future updates.
Would the best course of action be to dual boot the MBP with Snow and Ubuntu?
    Thanks

to be honest I have had enough of Microsoft and their failings
Ah, the reason why many of us use Macs as well. Although, I've never actually owned a PC running Windows. Always been Macs in this household, and would never use Windows if you paid me!
I have just done a quick search on all the apps I currently use on Ubuntu and yes you are correct they are available for OSX!
Most apps on Ubuntu are open source, and since there are many similarities between Linux and OS X apps are very easy to port from Ubuntu to OS X. So most developers will do it. Some don't, but the majority of the well-used Linux apps also run under OS X either natively or under X11.
Whats the situation with most apps for the Mac? Are they free like Linux or do you have to pay?
What I really like about OS X is that there is a very solid foundation of open source or free applications because it is Unix-based. You can often find free apps to do what you need, but sometimes there are commercially-available apps for the same purpose as well. So you often get to choose between the best of both worlds: free (but maybe not as intuitive or compatible) or paid (perhaps of slightly better quality).
For example, you can choose to buy something like iWork from Apple or Office from Microsoft, or you can go free (open source) and use OpenOffice, NeoOffice, StarOffice or any combination of any of them. OS X is often commercially developed for by leading software vendors, but sometimes open source software is available too.
I think just getting the feel of SL is a good idea, especially if you're purchasing a MBP. If you have questions, we'll be here to answer them. And if you really don't like it and want to go to Ubuntu we can help with that too.

  • Performance reduced under Bootcamp after EFI update on Macbook Pro Retina

after i upgraded EFI on my retina macbook pro the proformence reduced to unusable. under heavy load under bootcamp windows7. the cpu clock drops and as well as cpu clock. this is the screen shot of gpu clock monitoring from windows u can see the gpu clock is running at 270Mhz at most of the time and trying to be back to 725Mhz(yea, not 900Mhz!) when im running a graphic benchmark at same time cpu will run about 1.1Ghz as well. i noticed that it will run 10-20sec normally then CPU and GPU clock will start dropping. It's almost like speedstep is programmed backwards. My CPU is constantly running at 3.1-3.2GHz, and then as soon as a game loads, it drops to 1.2GHz. I've lost track of how many times I reset the SMC  reseting SMC PRAM, reinstalling windows using Bootcamp or even erease the entire drive and start over from network recovery MacOS did not solve this problem. so all the recent games like COD MW3, Starcraft II, BF3,or D3 will only run about about 10 fps as i was playing them with no ploblem before the EFI update.
this is killing me! please help.
im in NY, in this season i dont think is the overheating problem. when i check the temperature, it stays about 80C (fans will run about 4k rpm). but some time heavy loaded Mac OS cpu is about 90 degree but only with 3k rpm fan kicked in.
i did search online, seems that some other people have the same problem with rMBP or MBA 2012.
anyone knows if i take my macbook pro to the store, will those people work at genuines bar help me with this "windows" problem?
    thanks!

Hey Shadowyani, please take a time and fill a bug report at http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/ . The machine is useless for me as it is now because I develop and use very GPU/CPU demanding scientific applications, after the update my realtime applications are completely useless as they drop from something like 25fps to 9 fps even on Mac OS X (no SMC reset fixed the issue). In bootcamp the situation is worse, my software runs at 4 fps and gaming turns to be impossible to play as well.
Please let Apple know about the problem, fill a bug report, even if SMC reset once in a while fixed the issue for you (this is not a common behaviour and must be fixed). We paid the price for cutting edge technology.
Apple shall not do a downgrade of the system after few weeks, remember that most of reviews and benchmarks were done BEFORE the EFI Update, so people are being fooled by Apple in this sense.

  • 2011 EFI Update problem

I just ran the latest EFI Update on a (new) 3week old MBP.   The MBP SW update ran fine... then It indicated to run EFI Update...
THe update appeared to run , with gray screen and progress bar.  It ran to completion restarted.
AND all I get is a grey screen (no Apple icon).
I cannot access this MBP  any ideas?

    Boom
You should, if you can get your machine see what version your ROM BIOS is MBP81.0047.B0E. If it is that you don't need the 2.1 update, unless of course software update pulled it down. I just brought my MBP home last night, and did software update and my MBP does not need the 2.1 update. Also my MBP came wiht OSX 10.6.7 already installed as oppose to earlier MBP wiht 10..6.6

  • Can EFI update be rolled back?

I installed the EFI update and now my e-sata drive I use for Time Machine won't mount. Worked perfectly before the update.
Is there any way to roll it back to the previous version?

No. It would be nice if Apple were to offer that option,
    but currently they don't.
