Email issues (and other annoyances)

I recently "upgraded" from my reliable Bold to the Q10.  I must admit I did not do sufficient research first for if I had I would still be using my Bold.
I know the "delete only on hand held" issue has been raised numerous times so all I will say here is add  me to the list of really annoyed people.
I completed my first road trip last weekend with the Q1o and it was not a pleasant experience.  Let me first give you the setup details:
Mobile Service Provider = Virgin Mobile
Email:
I have three Rogers accts that go to the Q10
I have one BellAliant account (nb.aibn.com) that goes to my Q10
! Have one  government account that is forwarded to my Q10
I have on from my own server that goes to the Q10.
Other complication is that when I am at home there is next to no 3G coverage.  This is not provider dependent - no one has coverage as I live in major dip about 5 km line of sight from both Rogers & Bell / Telus / Virgin towers.
Now when I am home on my Rogers wireless router, I can't send from my BellAliant account.
When I travelled to Toronto I was hit with the following:
Arrived  at Pearson Airport, switched phone back to normal use. Received several incoming emails.  When I went to answer the BellAliant ones, it would not send.  It took the better part of a day to find an SMTP server that the system would work with.
My Rogers ones and my own server were fine.
Fast forward to the next day, when after having to reboot the Q10 (yet again) it decided that all my email accounts were invalid.  So I proceed to authenticate them once again.
Since I had the Bell Aliant SMTP nonsense sorted out, that work fine.  For my own server it was just a matter of inputting my password and hit save and it worked fine.  Now comes the three Rogers accounts.  When I re-input  my password and it save, I received "Authentication Failed"  and was advised to go to the web login and then try again.  So I went to the web logon on both my laptop and the Q10 and no luck. I kept getting the same the same issue.  It was not resolved until I was back at my home in New Brunswick and on my Rogers supplied home wifi that the accounts would authenticate properly.
I never had any of these issues when I travelled with my Bold, or the Curve before it.  I could leave NB, travel to Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia, PEI travel down through the US eastern seaboard and never an issue sending or receiving emails.
So I guess the question is how the heck do I work around all this?  BellAliant acknowledge that when you travel outside of NB you might (read will) have to use an alternate SMTP server. Bell, Rogers and Virgin say their systems are OK, it is a BlackBerry issue. (The loss of BIS with OS 10 and my corresponding vmobile.blackberry.com acct)  Again these were never issues until the "upgrade" to the Q10
My big concern is that when I leave in a few weeks for an out of province work term of a couple of months what do i do if suddenly I lose authentication again and I am no where near which ever provider  decides I am not authenticated?
Please do not suggest Gmail / Hotmail accounts they are useful, but not the solution to my problem(s).  I have a business to run and customers to respond to in a timely fashion.
Any constructive comments are more than welcome.
Thanks for at least letting me rant.

My settings for my nb.aibn.com accts are:
Username is my  full email address:  [email protected]
server address:
pop.nb.aibn.com
port 110
SMTP username is blank
SMTP server is:
[email protected]
SMTP port 25
I know I had to be one my aibn wireless in order for to set up the first time.  It doesn't like my Rogers wireless at my house.  And of course Rogers doesn't like me using port 25 for the SMTP server.
When I was in Toronto I had to change to mail.1xbell.ca for my smtp server and of course when I got back to NB back to the nb.aibn.com server.  You would think a national carrier would have one address that would work coast to coast.

  • WRT1900ac: Defects, Issues and Other

This is follow up on the issues, I had with WRT1900ac, in case others stumble over them as well.
    Setup:
    +-----+----(R) Internet - via Cable-modem 30Mb/5Mb

    | wall|----(G) Protected wired network – to switch

    | Top |----(E) Ethernet – connected to RPi(G) via switch
    +-----+      \- Vnet2 for vmware VMs
Other wireless devices set to use WRT(2)
    4 phones
    3 tablets
    3 media players
    4 desktops/laptop/netbooks
DHCP Servers and the subnets they control:
    FW(G)  x.x.13.0/24
    FW(B)  x.x.23.0/24
    RPi(G)  x.x.0.0/24
    Tests:
    1) Disconnecting FW(B) from WRT(S) and WRT1900ac is DHCP server.  All traffic is then passed through WRT(I) to FW(G) and finally to Internet.  Gateway via DHCP is point to WRT(S,2,5)
    2) FW(B) us connected to WRT(S) and WRT1900ac DHCP server is turned off.  All traffic is then passed thought FW(B) and finally to Internet.  Gateway via DHCP is pointing to FW(B)
    Defects:
    1) Cannot connect between wireless channels even though they are on the same subnet.  A device connected to WRT(5) cannot ping nor connect to service on WRT(2).  This prevents a device on WRT(5) form using a printer on WRT(2).  Similarity, a media device on WRT(5) cannot access a media server on WRT(2).
    WRT (S) (2) (5)
    (S)  OK  OK  OK
    (2)  OK  OK  __
    (5)  OK  __  OK
Workaround is using two wireless routers.  One handling 2.4 traffic and the other 5.0 traffic, internet connect routers together via a switch port.
    2) Connectivity → Local network → Router Details is not editing IP address telling you are duplicating another address on the subnet.  Instead it acts like it made the change you asked, then changes it to a random IP address in 10.0.0.0/24 network.  If WRT1900ac is the DHCP server, then this change is not too bad, since it changes the DHCP Ips also to this new subnet and DNS server in the WRT1900ac hands out the correct new information.  You are left thinking all is OK, but it is not what you set out to do.
If you are changing this IP and Turning off DHCP server same time (they are on the same panel), then the action will basically leave you with an unreachable WRT1900ac.  It will forward traffic between wired and wireless, but you are unable to connect to it to make any changes. From a user veiw, the WRT1900ac “console” is gone.  You have to do a hard factory reset to gain access again.
    Work around be very careful.
Suggested solution would be for the WRT1900ac to valid the address the user has requested to change to.  Like DHCP server validates the address there is with-in the subnet of WRT1900ac own IP.
Further since this function of checking and change IP is part of base system, if the IP is changed, then the DHCP server should be corrected and re-enabled as well.  This would allow the user regain access to the WRT1900ac and correct the error with a full factory reset.
Lastly an error panel should display once the user signs into the WRT1900ac, telling what the router did to make it work again.  Further assisting the user is making correct entries.
    3) WRT1900ac (via looking at Network Map) incorrectly identifies if a device is connected via wired or wireless, leading to bad return routes.
In Test1, when WRT1900ac was controlling the DHCP. When a vm was started on the Desktop use Vnet0 that bridged network via WRT(2), the VM would get an IP and would show up on the Network Map.  But the connection Icon shows up as wired and not via 2.4 wireless.  After a few moments (less than min) all tested (one at time, Linux, BSD, and WindowsXP) lost the connection though Network Map showed them as if the MAC manufacturer ID (the first three hex pairs) were used to determine the route in WRT1900ac.  When I switched the from Vnet0 to Vnet2 (private network with Rpi acting as the DHCP server and wireless bridge) all got connections and were able to work correctly (as expected).
In Test2, did not have an issue with this vm bridge function.  Though Network Map does not display hosts.  Yes, I turned on all View Device and Connection Types.
There was one strange thing did happen though, when WindowsXP was connecting, Network Map changed the Linux Desktop Host Name to WindowsXP name as all capitals.  The WindowsXP host did still appear all lowercase with an icon wired.  WindowsXP worked longer than the others, as if this “cross wiring” help WRT1900ac understand the route better.
    4) When force to do factory reset, WRT1900ac does reset the hardware password to that on the router, instead assigns a random password.  It does for default correctly for wireless WPA2.  By not defaulting back to to the known hardware password, the user is forced to go through the simplified configuration including connecting WRT(I) to an Internet connection.
    Issues:
    1) Connectivity → Local Network once you click on this tab, you cannot click on any of the other tabs without getting “Save changes” panel.  The choice there are Cancel, Yes and No.  Only Cancel works.  Then you have to Cancel from prior to page to actually get out.
    2) Network Map failing to correctly identify devices.  Showing devices with incorrect hostnames or descriptions.  Examples:
    a) Win8.1pro on wireless has an icon of printer.
    b) Linux box with vm of WindowsXP and Plex Web Server loaded, is showing with the XP machine host name and Manufacturer of Plex
    c) iPad showing up a general network device, where an iPhone shows up as phone.  The both have the same release of iOS.
    d) Windows phones and display as network with a host name of “Network Device”.
    e) Epson wireless printers, only 1 out of 3 display with host name.
    f) “Roku Streaming Player” is the same name of each Roku on the network, not the one that displays on iPhone or wireless or on the player itself.
    Suggested solutions include:
    a) Try using SMTP to get device information.
    b) Looking up the device name via DNS then DHCP to show what other equipment calls it.
    c) Showing the IP address for a host name instead of a nondescript “Network Device”
    Other:
    1) Only a single MAC address.  WRT1900ac uses a single MAC address.  This address is used for both internal [WRT(S,2,5)] and external [WRT(I)].  This maybe OK under connecting the WRT1900ac directly to Internet, but causes routing issues when both are connected to same internal hardware, since the ARP will have to routes to same “equipment”.  This found when determining why WRT190ac was changing its IP address from assigned.
Workaround is to go to Connectivity → Internet Settings → MAC Address Clone and enable it and makeup a MAC address for WRT1900ac.  I used added 1 to my WRT1900ac MAC.
    2) Simplified setup does not allow setting 5.0GHz CCSID.  It will copy 2.4GHz ot add _5GHz on to it, but not to name it, this thrid option would be a great help.
    3) Connectivity → Local Network → DHCP Server setup allows for 3 DNS, bBut this list is not sent to cleints.  Instead DHCP server sends the IP of WRT1900ac.  This is by design, since Linksys wants the “linksyssmartwifi.com” to resolve to 192.168.1.1, or what you set as WRT1900ac to under Router Details on the same page.
It would be better if those fields where moved from DHCP Setup, to at less the otherside of the panel so the user does not assume that these DNS will be informed to clients.
    4) External Storage not only allows access to mounted usb drive, but access to /sda including subdirectories of .tmp and cache, which in turn gives access to client.data, db.info, tsbyebye, twonky.log, twonymedia-config.html and twonkymeida-locations-6.db.
    5) There is no effective method to block or tuen off the WRT1900ac from talking to Linksys Command and Control (for my router it was 50.18.198.232 port 5222), on the Internet except disconnecting WRT(I) wire.  Even if blocked in the firewall, the WRT1900ac keeps pounding the firewall, to get access to the Internet, at rate up to 1Mbps.
Yes, this means I have disabled the ability of WRT1900ac from auto-updating, but I also blocked the risk of someone gaining access to my router via Linksys Command and Control.  If you log-in via your email address and password, even if you “connected” directly in to the router (say 192.168.1.1), this traffic sent/validated though Linksys Command and Control (ie: a request leaves your router and sent over the Internet to Linksys CnC, then sent back).  The iPhone app again, goes through Linksys CnC, and with it ALL setting on the router, including passwords, SSID, open ports and device list with IP.  In the end, the router is not under your direct control or ownership, but that of Linksys and their ability to protect your information on their Amazon cloud server.
    Miscellaneous:
    1) The download EULA for the software update for this device is 117 pages long, with a two step acceptance.  The warranty is 135 pages long.
    2) Calling Linksys Support Line custom for WRT1900ac, and after working with the person of almost 1.5hrs, found out the person had no clue what an IP was or how to configure normal static IP.  When requesting the next level for support, “They will call you back in 24 to 72 hours.”  After hanging up and starting again, found the next person equally unable to answer simple direct questions, asked for a manager.  She suggested that this call was really about Quality, then said “they will call you back in 2 to 5 days, after receiving the a support ticket.”
    In closing:
Support for WRT1900ac is either massively back-logged with problems or so understaffed that there is no hope to get anything really fixed.  OpenWRT, at my last view, is still in testing phase and Linksys will not warrant any damage or problems that arise out it use.  So my only real option is return this equipment, since there is no likely fix any of the issues above.  Long term Linksys needs to work on its quality controls, and stop burning up goodwill that brand name had carried.

See if wireless isolation is enabled.
When logged into your WRT1900AC using local access replace the end of the browser URL with:
    /dynamic/advanced-wireless.html

  • Please can anyone help with the continuing password rejection problem with email.Ipad and other systems work fine but despite reloading my password on imac it bounces back.Apple store has been visited and I have tried everything they suggest.

Please can anyone help with the continuing password rejection problem with email on my imac.My Ipad and other systems work fine but despite reloading my password on imac it bounces back.Apple store has been visited and I have tried everything they suggest.

I use free Yahoo mail webMail access because folders I created in webmail access doesn't get set up in Apple Mail. While I was searching for post about password and keychain issues, I stumbled on several threads that complain about Mail folder issues, so I'm holding off on Apple Mail.
On the password and keychain issue that your post is all about.  I've been using login keychain to save and automatical fill my login screens for a year or so successfully, with Safari and Chrome. Automatic form fill also works for Facebook login. Unfortunately, about 4 to 6 months ago, automatic password form fill stopped working with Yahoo webmail, while still worked for GMail (Safari and Chrome). I tried deleting the password entry for my two Yahoo email accounts to start fresh, but neither Safari not Chrome will even ask me if I want to save the password. I was so frustrated that I eventually installed the keypassX 0.43 (password manager) that is quite primitive sompare to OS X's keychain (when it works). Probably no surprise to you yet.
The surprise, to me at least, is that, for whatever reason, password auto form-fill from keychain started working again for Yahoo webmail login on Safari about 5-7 days ago. Still doesn't work on Chrome!
Two tips I can share, at least with webmail access:
    1. Password is save only for one of my yahoo mail accounts. When I login in with my other yahoo account, I get no prompt to save the password, and form fill doesn't work when I try to log in a second time with my other Yahoo mail account.
    2. On inspection of my login keychain, I see a webform password item saved for my Yahoo account that works with keychain. The name of the password is: login.yahoo.com(MyAccountName1#). When I open the password item and look in the Access Control tab, I see Safari and Chome are listed as allowed to access this password item..
I also an "Internet password" item with a name of just login.yahoo.com. When I open the the password item, it looks just like the password item created for MyAccountName#1, but the MyAccountName#2 is listed in the Account field. Inside the Access Control tab, no apps are listed in access permission. I added Safari and Chrome to the lists of allowed app, saved the password item.
Now when I bring up the Yahoo login page(by bookmark) on Safari, form fill fills in MyAccountname#1 for name and the proper password and I can login in. When I change the name to MyAccountName#2, the correct password is retrieved and I can log in! Alas, it still doesn't work on Chrome.
BTW, I changed the password item type from "Internet password" to "Web Form password" and saw no difference! I also edited the name to be "login.yahoo.com (MyAccountName#2)" to look like the web form password item that works, but it has no effect either.
From my experimentation, here's my observation:
    1. A Web Form password item is created for the first account name(MyAccountName#1) for login.yahoo.com and typed as Web Form password. When I log in using MyAccountName#2, an Internet Password is created, but no applications are listed as allowed to access the password item, even when the password item was created after just logged in and logged out to yahoo with the account name and password for MyAccountName#2.
    2. Manually adding Safari as an app that is allowed to use the password item works. Doesn't work with Chrome!
The version of Safari I'm using is Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2). My installed version of Chrome is Version 21.0.1180.79 beta.

  • SOA Design issues and other politics

    Hi all,
I have a requirement for live data feed from external system. I am using SOA11g and JDeveloper 11g. There are two designs, one proposed and other I have in mind to achieve this.
    1) The external system sends XML data in a push model to the exposed SOA Web Service (uses one-way messaging mode) at my end. I then store the message in the database
    a) In this design how do we keep track of all messages that are sent are received. Is there a better solution.
    2) The third party is proposing a Web Service at their end. The application being real-time (i.e any changes at their DB end i.e some DB tables, should be propogated across to our web services using XML messages). I will have to keep sending XML requests on a regular basis (say every 5 seconds). Can I achieve such type of Web Service client using SOA 11g?
    a) Here I have a design issue, that the data feed is live, why do the WS client have to keep sending requests at regular intervals. Why can't the third party send data whenever there is an update/insert at their database end. Third party is coming up with advantages like loose coupling and making the Web Service more generic. I doubt all the claims give that the applications are B2B and we are the other ones who will be using their web services for the time being. Their may be other two organizations later on.
    b) If the first request is not yet returned, will the second request after 5 seconds be blocked.
This designs and solutions are becoming quite political across organizations, and got to do with who will take the blame for data issues. I just want a proper SOA design for live data feed. Please suggest the advantages and disadvantages of both if anybody has been through this path.
    Thanks

My 1st generation i-pad has been acting up lately.  Can't open: safari, email, facebook, i-book and other apps, it keeps crashing.  Is there a solution outside of replacing it.

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that didn't help either, try restoring your iPad >  iTunes: Restoring iOS software

  • 40RV525U HDMI issues, and other problems

I'm using the 40RV525U model, and none of the HDMI ports work consistently, if at all. It's been like this since I bought the TV, but I (unfortunately) didn't take it back because I could use component cables with the PS3...it's primary purpose. I recently bought a PS4, and there are no component cables available, and converters don't work. Surpringly, I was able to get the HDMI 1 port to work after changing the PS4's output to 720p, but it wasn't consistent. It worked great for about 3 days, no problems at all. And then last night, it started losing the handshake every 30 seconds or so. I would get the dreaded snow screen (snow looks great in HD, btw) and black screen, and then it would re-connect and I'd have picture for a minute.
The fact that I was able to get it to work for 3 days without the slightest problem leads me to believe that it's a firmware issue. I'm on 1.05, the latest firmware version that I can find. Are there any further updates? The problems with this TV are numerous, but I like the picture, and I can't really afford to buy a new TV.
    Thanks

  • Site critiqe, email issue and browser display

    Hi,
1/I have just posted my first website www.yourdesignspace.com.au and would be interested in any comments about its design or layout.
2/I am interested in how I can have email other than MAIL or options for viewer to choose, as when viewed via windows or explorer - message that (MAIL) application not installed and 30+ mesages appear.
3/Also when viwed on windows browsers, display is clunky. In safari clean and as intended. Worst in explorer.
All of site created in iWeb with forms as pdf from Indesign and acrobat.

Hi Matt - Welcome to the discussions.
You have a mixture of graphic text and text text. On your Support page, click on the Increase Font Size button in Safari and see what happens. Some text increases and other text stays the same. A visitor would probably want all the text to increase in size -- or already be sufficiently large to read (if you're using all graphic text which cannot be increased).
I always run my MacBook Pro at 1280x800 rather than its native 1440x900 so that everything appears larger. But despite this, the graphic text at your Support page still appears tiny and very difficult to read.
In general, your expertise in design doesn't come through (for me at least) in your web site. It appears unclear and muddled. In contrast, here's an iWeb site that was generally praised on this forum...
    http://web.mac.com/wakestuff
...It doesn't mean every site has to look like that, but Wakestuff gives an immediate impression that it was "designed" -- rather than just some text and graphics put together.
For some inspiration check out this article about "why design matters"...
    http://www.garrreynolds.com/Design/whydesign.html
Another interesting essay can be found by clicking on "Design basics" at the same page. There Garr discusses the seven basic design principles: Unity, Gestalt, Space, Color, Dominance, Hierarchy and Balance. ...Perhaps you are already aware of these principles, but if so, your application of them in your site has not been quite successful. Other forum readers may agree or disagree with my comments -- we'll see.

  • Latency setting issues, and other problems.

Hello, this is my first time posting on a forum, and I wouldn't be here if I didn't think this was an interesting problem.
My computer (Hardware listings below) has a microphone lag issue.  I tested it by plugging in my microphone and recording the recording through speakers, and it is very clearly lag.  I am in need of a solution to that, but that is just where my problem starts.  Whenever I try and load in an MPEG4 audio file, it seems to play and then all of my sound goes out on my system.  Sometimes the sound goes out immediately after opening the program.  The way I treat it is by putting my computer to sleep and waking it up, and the sound then returns until the program decides to randomly shut it down again.  The mixing tables are reacting on screen, but there are no system sounds coming out at all.  On top of that, when trying to fix my latency issues, it didn't help enough moving it down to 30 on the hardware options for the MME settings.  It could be my computer is too slow or something, but I also tried switching it to asio.  I have ASIO4all and I don't know if I should be running it, as I don't know too much about how my system would interact with all of these programs.  I run Audition 5.5 fully legally, and I can update with whatever.  I just want to be able to overdub without any lag, and everything I do to try and fix it makes a new problem happen.  I am using a microphone plugged into the 3.5mm microphone slot on the motherboard.  It's a Sure mic plugged in through an SLR to Quarter Inch male cable

  • HT4528 IOS6 email forwarding and other issues

Since upgrading my 4S to IOS6, I often lose the bar at the bottom of email messages (i.e. the one that has a flag, filing, trash, forward/reply, and new email).  I get it back when I turn the iPhone off and on.  It happens every couple of days. I am current on my IOS6 level.  I appreciate any advice.

Do you have .Mac set to synchronize mailboxes? I don't know whether this could be part of the problem but if you use .Mac it's worth checking.
Do you keep mail messages on the server? This could be another reason. When you create a new account it might be downloading all old mail. I have my advanced settings to retain mail for only 1 week, then delete it from the server. I keep messages on my computer for preference.
I've just checked in Mail Help and for IMAP accounts the mail is kept on the server even though an account is deleted. For POP accounts it can be kept on the server too unless you have specified for it to be removed after a certain time.
Connection Doctor seems to remember all previous accounts that have been used but should indicate that deleted accounts can't be connected. I don't know which file contains this information but it will probably be in the user Library somewhere.

  • Mucho strangeness: passwords not propagating to AD, and other annoyances

    Hi all,
I'm dealing with a few problems in IDM at the moment, and am looking at a small grab-bag of symptoms, which may or may not be linked to each other or to the problem at all.
The main current problem is that passwords aren't propagating into our Active Directory servers, although they did in the past.
First a quick summary of our environment, we are running IDM 5.5, we have a central mysql DB which is the source of user infromation, 3 different tables, one for each class of user. Activesync is in use to watch these tables, and we have a custom user form for each table too.
We are feeding account data into an LDAP server, which is working fine, and to a pair of Active Directory Servers, one for testing/development, and one intended to be for production, except the 'production' server isn't actually in production yet.
Password information is held in the mysql tables, in 2 different forms, 1) pre-encrypted unix hashes, and pgp-encrypted plaintext, we use the pgp-encrypted plaintext to feed the AD servers, and the unix-hashes for the LDAP.
Amongst other things the custom forms are calling locally written java code to reverse the pgp-encryption.
Because the AD boxes weren't in production, we don't know when things broke, or what may have changed to cause the breakage.
The symptoms I've found are as follows:
    - account creation on AD works, including the initial password,
    - password changes are not going through to the AD servers,
    - changes to other fields in the mysql tables, do propagate (ie, changes to names, email adresses, vacation settings),
    - Our custom user form gets run 3 times, on any change to an account within the mysql tables,
    - The first time the form is run, the waveset.accountId is, sometimes, null, (maybe this is on account creation?)
    - The first time the form is run, activeSync.pgp_pass (our pgp encrypted plaintext password) is always null,
    - on an attempted password change, the task log doesn't show that it is trying to change the password, only that the Acocunt was 'updated',
    - on changing any other field, the task log shows that it was changing that field, although it does show other fields that may have been changed,
    - the catalina.out (we run tomcat), does show that the passwords are being correctly decrypted from the pgp form,
I'm stuck at this point, can anyone make any suggestions?

    Hi Again,
This reply is just to let people know what happened with the issues I listed above.
    - The user form being run 3 times, I don't fully understand this one, but I did reduce the amount of work the form did by turning the pgp decryption from a Expansion, to a Derivation field type.
    - the empty attributes, the first time the form is run, does appear to be due to the first appearance of a user account, ie waveset.accountId is empty because it hadn't been generated yet for this user,
The basic problem of the passwords not puching out was a naming issue, when we first developed the software to decrypt the passwords, we put it in global.pass, and in the schema maps, placed entries like pass->userPasswordAt that point the system worked, then we decided to be more explicit and decided to name the attribute password instead.
Which meant the schema map was now working with the password. namespace and the password.password attribute, which in turn meant the password distribution failed, because we didn't set password.confirmPassword, or the pasword.selectAll attributes.
We were lazy, and didn't expect what looked like a attribute name change to be able to change anything, so we didn't notice the passwords stopped propagating.
As you can see from the above we are still learning how this all works :-(

  • Email issues and Customer Service, Sales Response

    1.  I currently have Verizon land line phone service and RoadRunner High Speed Internet service, and am considering a switch to Verizon DSL.  A very reliable IT adviser has warned me that advertised Verizon data rates/bandwidth are not reliably delivered and that there is a good chance that Verizon is actively seeking to dump all of their wired facility services.  Given that I can't even get a requested return phone call from any Verizon sales or tech support personnel with substantive answers or assurances of the effecacy of their offered (web) services, I am concerned whether the switch from Time Warner to Verizon is wise.
    2.   I also tried connecting (via a friend's Verizon service) to the Gmail server using Thunderbird on my Mac.  I was able to connect with the incoming Gmail server and received new emails while connected.  But I could not send email, as the Verizon service apparently failed to connect to the Gmail smtp outgoing server configured in Thunderbird (and that works on RoadRunner).
I am looking for and would appreciate feedback and/or potential solutions, as Verizon apparently doesn't care to teke the time to assist.  Maybe that is the first and best sign I shouldn't switch ???????

About SMTP, Verizon blocks the default port of 25 for SMTP to cut down on spam/zombie computers. Try using an alternate or secure port for SMTP.
Second of all, your IT source is accurate. Some of the word that's been going around the Internet has been mentioning that unless you have FiOS, LTE or perhaps a VDSL solution may be your only hope for speeds. I will take the VDSL if I must settle with that for a little while until someone brings Fiber to me, but LTE, forget that. The DSL network has seen little to no upgrades with the existing infrastructure basically being used to support higher speeds and heavier usage, and unfortunately in some cases this is leading to congestion issues. The only thing to know for sure is to get the service for yourself and to see how it works. Verizon should have a 30 day Guarantee on their plans allowing you to cancel before being sucked into a contract or paying anything. Just remember, do not get rid of Roadrunner until you are sure the DSL works out and will suit your needs. I have no issues with the DSL in terms of speeds, which I get 24/7. I only wish routing was a bit better to local servers and the speeds were higher.

The first to bring me 1Gbps Fiber for $30/m wins!

  • Email issue and question

all of a sudden I have over 4,000 old emails on my iphone.  How do I remove them all at once and why did it happen?

Thank you for this link - I will look into it later today.  What a shame that Adobe didn't think about the "possibility" of someone wanting to send an email WITHOUT inserting records into a database first. I am extremely unhappy with Adobe right now.  I've just recently learned that they are "dumping" ADDT.  First of all, they charge an arm and a leg for the product, give you no real support, and now they are dumping it.  Plus, I've been waiting ONE MONTH for a call back for an elevated support issue that is still unresolved.  Adobe never should have purchased Macromedia.  They are in way over their heads.
