Enable "Edit Capute Time..." for movie files

It's great that you now can import movie files in Lightroom 3 but you are unable to edit the capture time. Since I edited the capture time of some of my photos the movies (taken on the same date / time) are now not in the right place when I sort by Capture Time. Please fix this Adobe team! Thanks!

Some workarounds:
1. LR recognizes the .thm sidecars for video files, which are just JPEG files.  You can rename the sidecar to have a .jpg extension, change its DateTimeOriginal field (capture time) using LR or some other tool, then rename it back to .thm, then reimport the video file into your catalog.
2. For video files without .thm sidecars, LR uses the date-created of the file itself. You can use a third-party tool to change the date-created and then re-import the file ino your catalog.
3. Use Jeffrey Friedl's video plugin or my Any File plugin to import the video into your catalog.  You'll then be able to use LR to edit the capture time, and you'll also be able to write all metadata back to the proxy/sidecar files the plugins create for the videos (LR 3 doesn't let you write metadata back to files).

  • 'Edit in Place' for XLSM-files (Excel Macro-Enabled)

    Hi,
is it possible to activate 'Edit in Place' for xlsm-files (Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook file)?
For xls(x)-files there is the link 'Edit This File', but not for files of type 'xlsm' allthough they could be dealt the same way with Excel.
I know I can edit this files using the 'Add-in for MS Office' and via the 'Vibe Desktop', but it would be nice to deal them like other Excel-files.
    thx

  • Why doesn't Lightroom 4 create xmp files for mov files?

This would be useful for moving files to other applications and databases. As far as I can tell Adobe doesn't share any metadata for .mov files between any of it's CS6 programs either, Bridge, Prelude, Premiere, etc. As a still photographer who is now shooting DSLR video I want to get metadata entered as soon as possible for my still and video files. It would be best to do both stills and video at the same time. Camera Bits Photo Mechanic is the only program I've found so far that does this. Canto Cumulus is able to read Photo Mechanic's xmp files. I don't really need Photo Mechanic in my workflow except for this issue.

There is no backward compatibility with Lightroom 4.

The important operating systems maintain both a creation date/time and last modified date/time for files. But in the File class there is only a lastModified() method. How does one determine the creation date/time for a file?

As far as i know, there is no way to know creation time, since it is a OS dependant information.

  • Resolution for .mov files for film festivals

Some film festivals are asking for .mov files for screenings. Nowhere can I find what type or resolution they want or if there's an industry standard.
I have seen that if they play it back from a laptop (and you never know) that too high a resolution won't work.
Is there a standard for movie theaters?
    Thanks.

    Yes and No
DCP is a worldwide, digital delivery standard for commercial theaters. But, by standards, is for example 'limited' to 24fps - sad news, for Mr P. Jackson or J.Cameron (no idea, how HFR nor 3D is delivered…)
highly complex to encode, there are specialized companies offering 'transfer services' - $$$, creates enormous files (an intra-compression codec), asks for 'Linux formatted/ext2'-drives, etc etc etc ,.. . (just read about it - no clue what I'm talking about!!)
    Plan B)
ask the theatre what they want …or use.
    Plan C)
1080/24p, h.264/high profile/20mbps in a mp4 should be very universal … (who asks for mov can playback mp4 too)
    … but then, next question:
What media? stick, dataDisk, hard drive, ftp-upload?
What format? fat32 (doesn't work for longer movies…), exFat, ntfs??
some non-commercial festivals allow/prefer delivery by BluRay or even on DVD ...
again, 'limited' too, but very, very universal …

I have .mov files recorded from an ipad with these specs:

    Thanks for the reply.
As for orientation, there is a rotation feature in Premiere Elements 12....at the Timeline level, you can right click the clip and select Rotate 90 Left or Rotate  90 Right. So that may help.
This is what you may want to try and see what this looks like
    1. Open Premiere Elements 12 to its Expert workspace
    2. Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings
    3. In the Change Settings dialog, change the project preset to NTSC DV Widescreen.
    4. Before you exit that area, in the last dialog that you see (new project dialog), make sure you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on this Project".
    5. Back in the Expert workspace, use Add Media/Files and Folders/ to bring your video into Project Assets from where you will drag it to Video Track 1. We can talk about edits if necessary.
    6. Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc with preset set for NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD.
    7. Place your DVD 4.7 GB/120 min disc in the burner, in the burn dialog, have a check mark next to "Fit Content to Available Space". Hit Burn.
If you decide to take the Timeline to YouTube instead,
Publish+Share/Social Websites/YouTube, using Presets = Flash Video for YouTube (Widescreen)
Hit Next and follow the instructions.
(Upload to YouTube from within Premiere Elements 12 has limits of 2 GB and 15 minutes. Anything exceeding that, you need to export to file saved to the computer hard drive and then upload that file to YouTube at the YouTube web site where you might be able to get extended limits.
Please let us know if you are OK with the above information.
    Thanks.
    ATR
Add On...If you want to "decorate" the black borders in the Timeline content, drag the video to Video Track 2 and put a colored background on Video Track 1 directly below the Video Track 2 content.

  • Artwork (Cover Art) not shown anymore in Finder for Movie Files

After starting with Snow Leopard I was very happy to see now the Movie Artwork in Finder instead of the first Movie Frame (mostly black).
Since (today?) I don't see my Movie Artworks anymore in Finder. Instead of the Artwork, I see only the Quicktime Icon.
On an older MacBook (10.6) there is everything as I expected. But on my new MacBook Pro and Mac Mini (both 10.6.1) I only see the Quicktime Icon.
I trying to delete com.apple.finder.plist ... but with no success.
I found a little Difference in Finder.
    - Finder in MacBook (10.6.) shows the Movie as 'MPEG-4-Videodatei' ... in English 'MPEG-4-Videofile'
    - Finder in MacBookPro/MacMini (10.6.1) shows the Movie as 'Geschützter MPEG-4-Film' ... in English 'Protected MPEG-4-Movie'
The Movies (all H.264 with Extension m4v created with Elgato Turbo.264 HD or Handbrake) are located on an Network Drive. So I can't imagine, where the difference is coming from, because I look at the same Movie with 10.6 and 10.6.1.
Has anyone an idea or the same Problem ?

    Major Edit:
    Hey,
Thanks for trying. I looked at all of my converted movies i did in the last year and yeah, they are all of the protected kind, I just didn't pay attention. Ctrl Alt Del Reboot.
It's frustrating because I make them on my MBP, save them to the Time capsule, and i have to disconnect and reconnect to the Time capsule before I can read them, but I can read them just fine on my mac mini immediately.
Have you tried to manually set the artwork to the file, on your mac that is having the problems? I'm not to familiar with the process that you used, but could you change it as you would an application icon?
You can send apple your feedback on this if you want- just find your mac and go from there:

  • Stop Automatic Removal of Background Color for .mov files

Hi guys, I'm a rookie to Adobe Premier, but I have a 3.2 ghz processor and 14 GB of memory.  I am trying to edit together a project I am animating in Maya.  I am sequencing TARGA image files into .MOV files with Quicktime Pro and importing the .MOVs into Premier Elements.  The blue sky in the background of each clip is automatically replaced with black when I import and/or render it with Premier.  The sky is blue when I play individual clips in Quicktime or other players, but Premier (and Final Cut) always turns it black as though I enabled a chroma key, though I did not.  I have considered just putting in a blue background matte, but then I lose the smooth gradient of the sky.  Could it have something to do with the alpha channel?  Does anyone have any tips?  Thank you very much!

It sounds like you're indavertantly Videomerging your clips.
When you add your video to your project's timeline, you quite likely see either a pop-up window offering to Smart Fix your video and/or a pop-up window offering to apply Videomerge. Make sure you do not select the Videomerge option.
If you're not seeing this box, you may have turned on the option to Always Videomerge.
To turn this off, go to Edit/Preferences and check the option to Show All Do Not Show Messages. Then, next time you add a clip and you see the Videomerge option, select No and then click the Do Not Show option to permanently turn this automatic feature off.
Lots more information on stuff like this in my books as well as in my 8-part Basic Training tutorial series at Premiere Elements support site Muvipix.com.

i wonder is it the problem that i have too many files in a project ? what is the best way to solve this problem ?
i've been told to use new scene to convert file, but i scare that the problem is still there because i got 5k of files in a project.
is it possible if i buy a new harddisk and move half of my footage to the new disk ? ( instead of moving preview and media cahce because the problem appear even before i start to edit )

I am shocked you are having a problem, but, not surprised. I have a T5500 2.27Ghz Quad Core i7 64 bit Workstation with a Adobe  recommended Nvidia Quadro Fx3800 video card.> however, we still use Premiere Pro 1.5.1 which is 5 years old and 32 bit bit. However, with CS5 premiere pro you should have no problem, but, if you do, this is how we handle it. Import the H.264 mov files ( must render) which are pretty big into say Premiere Elements either  4/8or the upgraded 9 (which is still 32 bit, but, compatible) in say 10 5sec clips at a time .Export to  Movie , trans code ( You can set all this using the Adobe Media Encoder) as Microsoft avi  and uncompressed. With a bit of luck the out put file will be cineform avi high definition. Import the avi. 1920 x1080 HD innto Premiere Pro  for final edit and Export to Pro Tape or Blu-ray. We are PAL @ 25fps.
Presto the finished project is stunning on a Sony Bravia Full HD 46" Monitor... Incidentally the HD avi clips in Premiere Pro are lighting fast to edit etc.
good luck, and you will have released by now a 5 sec clip of H.264 Mov for say 5 sec or more could be anything from 25Mb to 25 Gb we have often had projects in High Definition taking up to 90Gb or more on the timeline, the old Premiere Pro does not like THAT and may/will grind to a halt. I MIGHT ADD THE NVIDIA QUADRO FX 3800 MOVES THE VIDEO IN THE MONITOR IN NEAR IF/ , NOT REAL TIME. NOT LIKE THE SLOW MOTION IN THE OLD PENTIUM 3.2 gHz hyper-threaded which is recommended by Adobe Spec but, not essential. 800FSB, EVEN THOUGH THE FINAL EXPORTED PRODUCT WAS PERFECT.
Ps In 18 months using the  Canon 5D mark II we have finished 25 projects + to tape and 2 to Blu-ray using either H.264 or mpeg - 2 , excellent colour, stereo sound using a Rode Stereo Hi fi Mike.. We also use a Canon HV 20/30/40 as a vtr to Export to tape at Full High definition . 35 min projects take real time, blu-ray takes 52 minutes. Not bad for 32 bit. Your set up should kill it.?

  • Is there a way to change the Digitised Date for Mov files in Lightroom?

I am scanning some old photos.  Unfortunately Programs such as Dropbox and OneDrive display Mov files by their digitised Date.
Consequently, My scanned photos are shown by the date that I scanned them. I can not seem to find anyway in LightRoom to change the Digitised Date so that they are shown on OneDrive/Dropbox in the correct order on my iPad.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Your subject line says "Mov files" (which are video files), but your message talks about scanning old photos.  I'll address the old photos issue.
Because there are so many dates/times associated with photos, and because every program feels free to use its own names, it's critical to be pedantically precise about terminology. The date/time a photo was originally taken (when the shutter was pressed) is called Date/Time Original or Capture Date. The date/time a photo was transferred to digital media is called Date/Time Digitized (when the analog file was scanned or when the digital-camera shutter was pressed).
A good rule of hygiene is to ensure every photo has a Date/Time Original (capture date).  Typically only digital archivists care about maintaining Date/Time Digitized.  If you ensure that every photo has a Date/Time Original, then pretty much any modern app and Web site will order your photos correctly.
In LR, you set Date/Time Original using the Metadata > Edit Capture Time command.  By default, LR won't write the capture time back to the file's metadata, so depending on how you are transferring photos to other programs, the capture time won't necessarily get transferred.  So you either need to do Metadata > Save Metadata To File, or better, set the option Catalog Settings > Metadata > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
Unfortunately, LR's Edit Capture Time isn't very flexible with dealing with scanned photos in which the precise date/time is not known.  So some people like to set an entire batch to, say, 1963/10/01 00:00:00, while others like to have each photo set in increasing increments of 1 second, so that programs will at least maintain the known relative ordering (which comes from the film or slide ordering).   To do that, you'll need a third-party plugin, e.g. ExifMeta or CaptureTime To EXIF.

  • Iphoto 6.0.5 - keeps searching for .mov file that has been deleted

    OK, this is my problem...
I am running the most recent version of iphoto. i keep all of my photos in the iphoto library, which i run off of an external drive. recently, my drive filled up so i got a new 120gb firelite drive and transferred my photos AND the iphoto library to the new drive. then i started iphoto and was given the choice to create a new library or locate the library. i chose 'locate' and pointed it in the right direction. iphoto opened, and all my photos everything appeared to be ok in the program. this is when my problems began...
problem 1: if i try to do anything with any of the photos, i am told that the file cannot be located. i tried to re-import the library but the program began complaining about not being able to locate several movie files (that are in the library and on the external drive). then iphoto stopped responding.
problem 2: i then did a force quit, and now EVERY time i try to do ANYTHING (with other programs) while iphoto is open, it begins to look for the same movie file each time. then iphoto stops responding. i've since deleted the movie from my drive and from the iphoto library, but iphoto keeps looking for it each time.
please help!!!! my sanity rests on your ability to help me out....

    1. Try rebuilding the Library: Restart the iPhoto while holding down the Apple and Option keys. The resulting dialogue will give you the options.
    2. Apart from moving the Libary, have you changed anything within the iPhoto Library Folder?

    <Motion duration="60" xmlns="fl.motion.*" xmlns:geom="flash.geom.*" xmlns:filters="flash.filters.*">
        <source>

        <Keyframe index="59" x="0" y="0"/>
    </Motion>
This is successfully parsed but the value is not taken into account in the animation.  It seems to be set to 0, regardless of what I set it to in the XML and Captivate shows the property as editable but no matter what you enter it does not accept it and returns to 0.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

    Good Day fellow forum users,
I'm having the same problem with this that David has.  It doesn't matter what parameter I change the animation behaves exactly the same.
I am attempting to have an image fly out left however, the image only partially 'leaves the screen'.  I have the effect tied to a button in an attempt to give my learners a way to change from one 'monitor screen' to another.  If I click the button twice the image will fully leave the screen.
I would rather accomplish this effect with a single button press.
I could just build this in Flash (and ultimately will do so) but if I can accomplish it within Cp that would be great.  The rest of my team isn't Flash savvy and I would like to have everyone able to edit the final product if necessary.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Generic Error message for .mov files

I'm 100% new to Premiere; I've never seen it before, I've never used it before. I asked my local Best Buy agent for a simple straight forward video editting software and he pointed me towards Premiere Elements 9. Now that my familiarity with the software has been established:
I'm trying to just experiment with it and get familiar with the features and settings etc. I tried to import a video recorded on a standard camera that had been saved on my hard drive. File> Get Media From> Files and Folders> Videos> my video.
When I select the "open" command I am told "The Importer has reported a generic error." I can still view them through Windows Media Player. Also they are .mov files.
How do I fix it or get around it and if I can't, how can I make sure that videos I actually need don't become generic errors?

Welcome to the forum, and also to PrE.
First, we need to dig a bit more deeply in what you are trying to Import. Video is so filled with different formats, CODEC's (think of these as the "guts" to a video file, and then those are subject to the whims of the camera mfgrs.
Can you tell us the make/model of camera, that these came from? As many cameras allowed all sorts of recording, if you can also list how these files were shot, that would be very helpful.
Then, can you tell us about the Project Preset, that you chose at New Project?
Those two, the Source Footage and the Project, should match.
Now, for some background reading, see this ARTICLE on file formats, and this ARTICLE for more info on CODEC's. They are probably a bit more than you want to know right now, but you will get an idea of why I am asking the above questions.
Good luck, and let us know a bit more,

  • 1080 50P PAL preset for MOV files recorded with the Panasonic GH3

Dear Adobe team and PE11 users,
With my Panasonic GH3 I'm recording 1080 50P MOV files. I bought this camera because the mov compression is much more easier to edit then AVCHD. There is already a solution for the (non english) premiere elements 11 software with a preset for 50P AVCHD files but I can't find any discussion about MOV files. Does anyone have the same problem and a solution (with a MOV 50p PAL preset). Untill now PE11 recognise the 50p files as HDV 1080 25i files in the project settings...
