Enabling IPv6 on Solaris 8.0 workstations

Hi,
I recently had Solaris 8.0 installed on two SUN Ultra 5 workstations. Unfortunately I was not present when they were installed and the installer did not know how to enable IPv6 onto the NIC cards. How do I go about checking if v6 was enabled and how do I changed the v6 address? The installer did say he did not use the addresses I requested since the SUN install script automatically assigned a v6 address for them. Any help or direction is appreciated. Any pointers to documentation about this is also appreciated...thanks! Mike

Hi there ,
check ifconfig -a --- is there an entry of an interfacecard
eg hme0 UP,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv6
inet6 fe80:....
IPv6 is up
if not touch hostname6.hme0 and reboot .
good luck
Uwe

  • Disable IPv6 in Solaris 11

I work for a regulated bank in the UK and we do not use IPv6. IPv6 is disabled on all our switches.
Despite this control we have previously been told by external auditors that we must also disable IPv6 on our servers. No problem in Solaris 10 and lower.
Can anyone tell me a simple way to do this in Solaris 11? there doesn't seem to be a way to only plumb IPv4 interfaces.
I found an unreliable source on the internet telling me to hack the file /etc/ipadm/ipadm.conf but this means I need to reboot after plumbing interfaces, something that we haven't had to do for how many years? There must be a sensible way to do this...???

Do not under any circumstances unless directed by Oracle Support as part of fixing a bug modify the ipadm.conf file directly.
You can't disable IPv6 in Solaris 10 either, what you can do is not have any IPv6 addresses active on plumbed interfaces.
You can do the same in Solaris 11. However you can't disable the IPv6 loopback address on Solaris 11 if you have zones
and want to be able to do 'pkg update' using system repostitory from inside the zone.
To remove the IPv6 address on net0 do something like this:
    # ipadm delete-addr net0/v6addr

How to Enable IPv6 Connection Permanently ?
I've searched Microsoft's websites for hours trying to enable IPv6 but no one seems to know.
I've enabled IPv6 from the registry but it disables after restart.
I think ESET Endpoint is disabling it.
I have got IPv6 enabled on the Router.
    Please help.

    Hi,
Microsoft already provide a hotfix to enable IPV6, you can access to the link below to download it for test.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929852
Note: I made a test in Windows 8.1, these hotfix also works fine.

  • Disable ipv6 in solaris 11 express (2010.11)

Is there a way to disable ipv6 in Solaris 11 Express?
I can unlplumb inet6 interfaces but it created again after reboot.
    # ifconfig v1 inet6 unplumb
    # ifconfig lo0 inet6 unplumb
    # ipadm show-if
    IFNAME STATE CURRENT PERSISTENT
    lo0 ok -m-v------4- ---
    v1 ok bm--------4- -46
Is there a way to get that change persistent?
And what is there right way to get rid of ndpd daemon?
Whenever I disable svc:/network/routing/ndp:default it gets back online by 'routeadm -u' after reboot.

I know how to create addresses. I have no problem with ip4.
Addresses created and persistent across reboot.
The only problem that there is also bunch of ipv6 interfaces brought up at reboot and NDP daemon.
    For now I found workaround:
    1. make lo0 controlled by ipadm:
    # ipadm delete-if lo0
    # ipadm create-if lo0
    # ipadm create-addr -T static -a 127.0.0.1/8 lo0/v4
    2. Remove lines with "_family=26" from /etc/ipadm/ipadm.conf
    3. reboot.
    That's all I wanted.
    # ipadm show-if
    IFNAME STATE CURRENT PERSISTENT
    lo0 ok -m-v------4- -4-
    v1 ok bm--------4- -4-
    # routeadm -u
    # routeadm | grep ndp
    disabled svc:/network/routing/ndp:default
If anyone know how to do the same without editing ipadm.conf please tell.

  • Enableing IPv6

Hi, I'm having trouble enabling IPv6 on my new installation of Arch. My network is a duel layer IPv4/IPv6, with dhcp for v4 and autoconfiguration  for v6 along with certain servers that have statics on both. I have MacOSX, Suse, Ubuntu, Mandriva and Windoze all working with both IPv6 and v4 but I can't seem to get Arch to work for v6.
So I have tried adding into modprob.conf "alias net-pf-10 on" which seems to have done nothing. I have also tried adding another interface into rc.conf like
    eth0_ipv6="inet6"
    INTERFACES=(eth0  eth0_ipv6)
along with differnt varients of eth0_ipv6 such as replacing inet6 with "eth0 autoconfigure".
So does anyone have any ideas on how to set up IPv6? as this was one of the main reasons I am trying out Arch due to the fact it has already got dhcp4.2 which has native v6 support.
    Any help would be great
    Thanks Richendes

I just tried the line "eth0_ipv6_0="eth0 add fd8d::3/64"" in rc.conf along with changing the "INTERFACES" line so it matched http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16114. This gave me the result
    [root@arch64 ~]# /etc/rc.d/network restart
    :: Stopping Network [FAIL]
:: Starting Network [BUSY] No support for INET6 on this system.
    [FAIL]
    [root@arch64 ~]#
So I'll assume that in the normal version of Arch Linux that IPv6 is not even supported in the kernel. oh well I'll keep watching this thread but for now I'll have to try some more variants of linux to test the programs I wanted with IPv6. As soon as Arch has ipv6 support though, I'll be straight back as from what I have seen so far to get to this point is very promising and from the install was a lot cleaner (ie with out the bloat or some other distros).
and yeah it is Internode! great ISP. I haven't played round with there implementation yet but thats mainly because I wanted to learn on the internal network and get all the internal services v6 compatable such as proxy, dns, apache, etc and then slowly connect to the outside world. The other reason I haven't connected yet is that our external router doesn't support v6 and our internal cisco one does but if I use that it will give v6 to the whole network where as I would prefer to start off with a single comp. getting v6 so to test then expand to the others on the network.

  • ISIS adjacency flap when enabling ipv6 isis on interface

    Hi all,
I'm enabling isis multi-topology in my network to support ipv6 (ipv4 already in place), but when I enable ipv6 router isis on an interface the adjacency flaps.
In detail, as soon as I configure "ipv6 router isis" on a vlan interface on the other side I get:
%CLNS-5-ADJCHANGE: ISIS: Adjacency to XXXX (VlanXX) Down, adjacency type changed
%CLNS-5-ADJCHANGE: ISIS: Adjacency to XXXX (VlanXX) Up, new adjacency
and the adjaceny type change from ISIS to M-ISIS (as expected).
Tested on 6509 WS-SUP720-3B with 12.2(33)SXH8b and 7606 WS-SUP720-3BXL with 12.2(18)SXF10. ISIS IPv4 is already configured and working as expected.
The global ISIS ipv6 configuration is the following:
    router isis
    address-family ipv6
    multi-topology
    exit-address-family
My understanding is that with multi-topology I should not see any flaps.
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Maurizio

    Hi Maurizio,
This is actually the expected behavior with the versions you tested. Starting with SXI, the session is not reset.

  • Can't enable IPv6 on my 3560 Switch

Hi, I got a Cisco WS-C3560-24PS-E Switch today and I can't enable IPv6 on it. I know the global command to enable it is "ipv6 unicast-routing" but that wouldn't show up in the global command list. Cisco Packet Tracer's layer 3 switch is the exact same model as mine and I even used the same IOS image as packet tracer's and it didn't work ("ipv6 unicast-routing" works on packet tracer though). Even tried upgrading to the LATEST IOS image and still got nothing. Can anyone please help? Is there something that I didn't do?

  • How to enable multipathing on Solaris 10

    I have a Sun SPARC T2000 connected to a 2540 array.
Originally I only installed a single channel FC HBA and connected it to tray 1 of the array. Today I've installed another FC HBA and connected it to the 2nd tray of the array. When I run format on my Solaris 10 data host I can see that there are now 2 entries for the same LUN.
I've enabled multipathing by running the following command
    # stmsboot -D fp -e
    <reboot>
After the reboot I still see two entries for the same LUN when I run format

I was under the impression that I should only see one entry after enabling multipathing.
    Am I wrong?

    Hello,
if you still have not got any answer from oracle support like us, perhaps i can give you a hin to fix this ...
    First we changed /etc/gdm/custom.conf
    [xdmcp]
    Enable=true
Then we changed smf service layout for svc:/application/graphical-login/gdm:default
We deleted dependencies for hal, consolekit and dbus in /lib/svc/manifest/application/graphical-login/gdm.xml
After that we started gdm service, but it failed. THe gdm-binary needs a socket from dbus ...
So we modified dbus start script.
Just comment check for "non-global zone" out in /lib/svc/method/svc-dbus
    #if smf_is_nonglobalzone; then
    # /usr/sbin/svcadm disable -t svc:/system/dbus
    # echo "dbus-daemon cannot be run in non-global zones"
    # sleep 5 &
    # exit $SMF_EXIT_OK
    #fi
then start dbus service and gdm service ...
    hope that helps...
Just contact Oracle to deliver update for you !
    thanks

  • Enable syslogd - to receive logs from workstations

i'm having problems trying to get syslogd to work on our new xserver. i read the latest command line 10.4 manual (and i called apple who don't support command line). page 284 says:
To configure Mac OS X Server as a log server that accepts log messages from other
    systems on the network:
1 Open /etc/rc and locate the following line:
    /usr/sbin/syslogd -s -m 0
2 Replacing the IP address after -a with your network information, change the line to:
    /usr/sbin/syslogd -n -a 192.168.1.0/24
The -n option disables DNS lookups.
3 Insert this command as the next to last line of the file, right before the “exit 0” line:
    killall -HUP syslogd #re-load configuration
    exit 0
syslogd contains features not documented in its man page. A more recent man page
that fully describes its features is available at www.freebsd.org/cgi/
    man.cgi?query=syslogd.
the /etc/rc file does not have this entry:
    /usr/sbin/syslogd -s -m 0
...i called apple and they don't support command line for premium service and support.

    > i'm trying to get the xserver to receive syslog output from workstations scattered across several subnets
I realize what you're trying to do.
    >is your suggestion going to enable xserver to accept workstation syslog output?
Once the above change is made, the server will accept syslog output from any device on the network that is configured to send logs to this server. This includes not just other Macs, but switches, routers, printers, and anything else that supports syslog.

  • No syslog after enable ipf in Solaris 10

    Hi,
As I'm newbie in Solaris, I just configure firewall by using IPF in solaris 10. Firewall is working well except I can't see blocking IP address and port number in syslog.
Please let me know how can I see "block in and out" IP address.
    Jon

    Hello,
You need to define "log" option also in your ipf.conf file.
    For ex:
    log in all
block in log quick on qfe2 proto icmp all
    HTH,
    Prabu.S
