Endeca Phrases not working

Hi,
I am currently working on Endeca 6.2.2. In the case of automatic phrasing, I have added an entry in the AppConfig.xml to take the phrases from Workbench.

Upon adding phrases in the workbench, the phrases xml is not being updated in the pipeline even after performing baseline update.
I tried using the other approach to import phrases using the developer studio. This is updating the phrases xml in the pipeline.
But the search is not working as expected after baseline update. Suppose if red white wine is added as a phrase entry.
The search for red white wine is giving results whereas the search for "red white wine" is not giving any results.
Spelling correction and Did you mean are working as expected.
Please let me know in case I missed any configuration settings.
Also please let me know if phrases testing can be verified using the Endeca JSP Reference Implementation while performing search under any matchmode.

I think you might be mixing up phrasing with automatic phrasing. Phrasing is when the customer enters quotation marks around multiple search terms, so "red wine" would only match against those terms appearing in that sequence in the data (i.e. not wine red). Automatic phrasing is a function to add the quotations automatically even though the customer didn't enter them. This list can be manually defined in either Workbench or in Developer Studio, or can be calculated based on the contents of a dimension (or dimensions).
Three things:
1) You can test a phrase search by doing a search in the reference application and including the quotation marks around the phrase - if this isn't working for you, then there is a problem at the data, or (2) is relevant
2) I believe phrased search only works with the standard Endeca analyser, so if you are using the new OLT analyser available in 6.4 with a non-latin language, phrased search won't work
3) To enable automatic phrasing, you need to make some changes to your web application code as well - see Chapter 7 in the Advanced Developer's Guide (here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E38682_01/MDEX.640/pdf/AdvDevGuide.pdf), and specifically the methods setNavERecSearchComputeAlternativePhrasings() and setNavERecSearchRewriteQueryToAnAlternativePhrasing()
Note (3) above is only for automatic phrasing - i.e. programmatically adding the quotation marks around two or more search terms to treat them as a phrase (so a search for Walking Dead would be transformed to "Walking Dead" and therefore not match Dead Man Walking, for example). You shouldn't need to do anything in the web application to support phrase searches when the customers include the quotation marks themselves.

All of the above runnings of Cron scripts and clearings of Caches were done using Mac Pilot version 1.1.5 (yes the one on the site is an updated version, but I have not downloaded it yet). If you decide to use this program to clear caches, I advise not clearing the Installer Receipts under the System section as Installer Receipts are used to correctly repair permissions. I do not clear Find File Indexes either, because I use the Find File feature quite frequently on my computer and I do not want to have it re-index files all the time (perhaps I'll do it every few months or so to refresh what I've got on the harddrive). Remember, all the information given in this paragraph is relative to Mac Pilot version 1.1.5.
In addition, I have also repaired permissions using Disk Utility 10.4.4 (v145.7) (make sure you restart your computer after you repair permissions). I have taken out items in /harddrive/library/StartUpItems as well as taking out items in /harddrive/library/Internet Plug-Ins and in /user/library/Internet Plug-Ins and in user/library/Caches (restart your computer after taking out or putting in items in these locations).
As of now, all the information mentioned above about trying to fix this problem have NOT worked.
What HAS WORKED for me was tinkering with my 3rd party firewall—Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48). Under the Protection Settings, I HAD Enable Active FTB support, Enable Stealth mode, Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic selected), Enable UDP Protection (with Protect outgoing UDP connections, Allow access to essential services, and Protect a range of UDP ports 1 through 1023 selected).
What I CHANGED in Protection Settings was DESELECT Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic DESELECTED). Upon deselecting that information the Google Search Bar feature in Safari WORKED practically instantaneously. Before hand, anything I inputted into Safari and after hitting Return on the keyboard just wound up hanging there.
Just to be sure, all tests were performed on:
IMac G4 800 Mhz SD Mac OSX 10.3.9 with ALL the latest Software Updates, Except Apple Remote Desktop Client version 1.2.4 and iPod Updater 2006-01-10
I have a cable internet connection with ISP Time Warner Cable (RoadRunner) using a SurfBoard SB4100 Cable Modem on an AirPort Extreme Base Station (Apple Base Station V5.6)
Interesting side note: I have a PowerBook G4 15" 1 Ghz Mac OSX 10.3.9 Laptop running on the same network (although it has an airport extreme card as opposed to the regular airport card in the iMac) with ALL the same latest Software Updates, Except iPod Updater 2006-01-10. The Apple Remote Desktop Client version 1.2.4 does not come up on Software Update on the Laptop and I can not find it on the harddrive using a name search in the Finder Find feature. It does not show up in Applications folder, so I do not know if it is on or active on the Laptop.
The LAPTOP IS ABLE TO USE ALL GOOGLE FEATURES without DESELECTING Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic DESELECTED). Why this is apparent I have not officially confirmed.
What I do know is that I have tried to Uninstall Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48) with the appropriate uninstaller but it FAILS during the uninstall (I wanted to uninstall and reinstall, it appears the program became corrupted). What I did to possibly circumvent this was to search for the phrase 'Personal Fire" using the Finder's Find feature (Search for items whose name contains 'Personal Fire') and deleted all the files that came up related to Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48). I then reinstalled Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48) since then, and it continues to have the problem with Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic selected).
What I have not done:
Updated Prebinding
Run TechTool Pro version 4.1.2
Install Combo OSX 10.3.9
Initialize HardDrive with complete reinstallation of OSX 10.3.9
To Summarize Possible Solution
I've tried many possible solutions, what appears to work best as of now is to DESELECT Enable suspicious activity protection (making sure Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic are deselected) under Protection Settings in Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48).
One could try deselecting something similar in any firewall application other than Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48), to see if it is suspicious activity settings in firewalls that cause the problem.
Any comments/feedbacks are extremely welcome.

Welcome to Apple discussions and thank you for your very very thorough post.
Your instincts to delete anything named "Norton" were right on the mark. Norton software is POISON to Macs running OS X. An additional software firewall is, IMHO, completely unnecessary. Turn on the built-in firewall in OS X - it is robust. In fact, if it is already on, there may be a conflict.
Go to Symantec's web site and use the uninstaller you should find there to get rid of the Norton stuff. After you do that, do a "find" on Norton and Symantec to be sure it is all gone - the stuff hides everywhere.

Crystal Report orange link arrow to SAP B1 not working

Hello,
I couldn't find a way to insert the actual "arrow" icon into a Crystal report so I copied one from one of the Crystal Reports imbedded in SAP B1 9.0. I subsequently edited the hyperlink to point to the document number I wanted.
From the Format Editor dialog box, Hyperlink, the hyperlink website address is:
http://$b1$/link?table=OPCH&key=1
There was a formatting button to the right of the website address line. Clicking on it yielded a formula workshop dialog box that I edited as follows:
'http://$b1$/link?table=OPCH&key='+ToText({OPCH.DocNum},0,"","")
The Crystal Report runs fine in B1 and shows the link arrows. Hovering the cursor above the hyperlink in print preview yields the specific information for that record. For example, when the report shows A/P Invoice #4394 the screen shows a small pop-up with "http://$b1$/link?table=OPCH&key=4394". Clicking on the arrow brings up a window with a blank! A/P invoice with the cursor located in the "Vendor Invoice No." box (OPCH.NumAtCard field).
Why is this not working to bring up the correct A/P invoice? There are no errors indicated.

Those instructions are exactly what I've done with my report. However, the instructions start with the phrase "manually insert link arrow into Crystal report". OK, I did a Google search on "insert link arrow" and "crystal" and "reports" and "SAP" and there was only ONE webpage with these words on the ENTIRE internet--the page you sent me to. Crystal reports online help has nothing relating to a "link arrow". If there's some special aspect of this link arrow that I'm missing, it sure is a secret because there's nothing out there on this subject. I guess I'll have to copy the graphic from previous reports each time I need to do this.
CORRECT ANSWER:
In any case, I was able to resolve the issue by changing the text in the formatting dialog box from OPCH.DocNum to PCH1.DocEntry and it worked. Why it worked is beyond me. Guessing seems to be the one defining feature of doing work with SAP B1.

Google Images not working in Safari on Iphone

Since a while back the "images"-tab in google does'nt work on the iPhone in any of the browsers I've tried. I've searched the net to find others with the same problem but with little luck. Here's a description of the problem.
For example I search for "dog" in google in the Safari browser, this works just fine.
Then I press the "images"-tab and get a thumbnail view with pictures of dogs, of course.
But this is where it all goes wrong, when touching one of the images I get an enlarged view of an image next to it. The "back to the results" and "full image" buttons dim out (without being touchable) and swiping does not work. I don't know what has caused this to stop working properly, I know its not the new iOS version though.
HERE is a youtube video I prepared that explains the problem.
First, is there anyone else out there with this problem?
Second, this is what I've tried:
- Other iPhone web browser applications, for example "Mercury", "Opera Mini", "Skyfire" and none of them works except "Dolphin" (good work).
- Resetting any of the settings in the phone, clearing cache and such have no effect.
- Resetting the iPhone totally, factory settings. No effect.
- Using someone elses iPhone. I've tried on an iPhone 4 and iPhone 3S, same problems (with iOS 5.01).
- Trying out all of the settings in google, no change.
- Setting the google view to "classic" instead of "mobile" works of course, but that makes the site look just like on a PC or Mac and is not what I'm after.
Third, this problem seems to just affect Swedish users from what I can tell. There would be thousands of posts about this if everyone in the world was affected by it, but so far I've seen no posts on this matter. But after searching a while I found a swedish forum site on the subject. Link (in swedish). Also, when visiting google from Sweden some form of script automatically changes the url from .com to .se. I don't know if this has something to do with it?
Anyone know what causes this problem and how It might be resolved?

First; this must be the most thorough error discription I have ever seen. Impressive.
Second; yep for a couple of weeks now I've been having exactly the same problems as you describe. One other thing that I've noticed, is that for me, the 'word suggestion drop down list' or whatever it's name is, no longer works. More specificly:
I open Safari in my iPhone, surf to Google image search and type for example "dog" in the search field. Below the field, I now get a list of suggested words or phrases that I think is based on the most popular searches. For me, the first suggestion in this list is "dogo argentino" (a specific and popular breed of dogs). When I tap on the words "dogo argentino", the search field normally would switch input from "dog" to "dogo argentino" AND starts the image search automatically. However, since the problem showed up, when I tap on "dogo argentino" the input field is not affected (still reads "dog") and I would have to type "dogo argentino" manually and hit "search".
I use a Swedish iPhone 4S (5.0.1 (9A406)) in the Telenor network. I also have tested the same possible solutions that you describe in your post, but with no luck.

How can I do grouping of Booleans in a phrase query ?
Specifically, I need to use a query such as the following one (fictitious example):
CONTAINS( my_indexed_column

I am using Oracle Text version 10.2.0.2.0
It looks like Oracle Text parser, in phrase queries, only allows grouping if it is/evaluates to a simple sequence of terms,
Unfortunately the EQUIV and SYN operators don't solve my problem, because:
1) The EQUIV operator only works on a term-by-term basis ;
Using
(bbb1 bbb2) EQUIV (bbb3 bbb4 bbb5) causes error
DRG-50921: EQUIV operand not a word or another EQUIV expression
2) The SYN operator can deal with compound terms/phrases, but Oracle Text parser will choke on a phrase query ;
Assuming I created a CTX_THES thesaurus , that has the SYN relation: bbb1 bbb2 ==> bbb3 bbb4 bbb5
Using
        ' aaaa '
     || ' (' || CTX_THES.SYN('bbb1 bbb2','my_thesaurus') || ') '
     || ' cccc '
    causes error

So, short of expanding all the boolean operations in my query to their logical equivalents, I have not figured a solution for my problem.

How to delete unwanted username -- steps in forum do not work

(e.g. [email protected]) appears (pops up) in the remembered username boxes on the Yahoo mail and match.com websites among others. The process suggested for erasing such an unwanted entry does not work -- namely highlighting the phrase then pressing "delete" -- as it still reappears the next time the website is accessed. How do I eradicate this pest from my computer?

I would first try to sync the iPad. iTunes does not 'see' what is on the iPad at all, it merely reflects what it thinks should be there, given all the actions that it has taken. If iTunes doesn't show that file as present, then it thinks that it got deleted.
The fact that it didn't get its state change logged in the iPad itsel,f and why that might have happened, are separate issues. The end result, however, is that you've deleted the file in the iTunes sync package and the subsequent sync process should once again try to remove it from the iPad.
Should that not work, it would lead to the more standard troubleshooting steps laid out in the last chaper of the Users Guide.

QT Pro WinXP - key is not working

I just bought an upgrade to QT Pro WinXP but the key is not working. I have search Apple's site and find no way to get help from Apple. Anyone got a clue? (Yes, I have used the right license key, yes I have the right version 7.1)

I tried that and it did not work. The paid functions are still grayed out.
There are three possibilities here:
1) The QT 7 Pro is not activated. In this case, the registration window will not display the QT logo with the word "Pro" superimposed on it, the phrase "QuickTime 7 Pro" will not be displayed below the "Registration Code:" entry, and the "Buy" button will not disappear. (I.e., I assume your version should look something like this if the code is accepted...)
2) You don't have a movie clip loaded. Unless you load a movie, most of the QT 7 Pro features will be grayed out since their functions are often contextual and, therefore, dependent on the data loaded. Additionally, the file loaded must be QT compression and/or edit compatible. For instance, if you try to trim an MPEG-1 video, the associated controls/options are grayed out because QT recognizes that this compression format is not editable at the frame level.
3) Your QT 7 Player application is corrupted/broken for some reason. In this case you would likely have to "extract" a copy of the player and replace the app in your Applications folder. However, this is a very rare chance of happening.
So, at this point you must determine which specific problem you have.

Voice Search In YouTube Not Working

I frequently use the voice search in YouTube when looking for video clips. I would say something and it wouldn't find exactly what I wanted because it found something similar in the history. I saw I had a lot of search results so I decided to clear it and I did.
I tried a simple search of "cute kittens playing" and it went through the motions of the microphone activating, showing pulses when I spoke, and when the chime for the end when the microphone turns gray, nothing was in the search results. I typed it in and I had search results. I tried another phrase and same result, nothing in search results.
I tried the Internet Browser and the voice search worked, and I tried the Chrome browser and it worked when I said, "OK Google".
I tried YouTube search and the voice feature doesn't work. I only cleared the YouTube history.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I followed the instructions from the link you provided. It did not work. I tried the second suggestion. YouTube does not have an Uninstall button, but it has an Uninstall Updates button. I chose that option. It worked and Voice Search worked great. However, after I installed the latest update, the Voice Search did not work again. I have two phones and I find it strange that it affects one phone and not the other, yet it's the same model phone, the Galaxy S4. One is Black Mist and the other is White Frost. Voice Search works fine on the White Frost phone with the latest version of YouTube, but not the Black Mist phone.
Here are the YouTube versions on both phones:
Black Mist ---> 5.1.10 - updates uninstalled
White Frost ---> 5.5.27

Pasting text in certain fonts does not work in Titles

Hi..
Creating a simple title in Tamil language. Typed something in Google transliteration and copied the text. When pasting it in Final Cut Pro X, nothing is pasted. There is not even an error or warning message It just does not paste. Font chosen is Inaimathi which works fine in TextEdit or OpenOffice.
Found a tip elsewhere that we could paste the text in TextEdit first, and then copy the phrase from there to FCP, to avoid encoding problems. Tried that too, but no use.
For the same font, typing in English works fine. Any help much appreciated..

This seems to have something to do with how these characters were created in the first place.
Copying and pasting the tamil word from your post above did not work. However, looking for these characters in the Character Viewer allowed me to enter them into a TextEdit document; and copying and pasting those into FCP X worked perfectly.
So how were these characters entered in the first place?

Negation in EQL not working

Total records are about 12000, property P_COLOR defined for 4000 of them.
The query
collection()/record[P_COLOR="red"]
returns expected result, i.e. all records, where property equals "red".
However, when I try to fetch records by property existence, it returns 0.
For example
collection()/record[P_COLOR]
OR
collection()/record[not (P_COLOR)]
return ZERO.
I found in official docs that such syntax is supported by Endeca:
Using negation on properties
EQL supports filtering by the absence of assignments on records. By using the not operator, you can
filter down to the set of records which do not have a specific property assignment.
For example:
collection()/record[author_id]
returns all records with the "author_id" property, while:
collection()/record[not (author_id)]
returns all records without the "author_id" property.
Guys, what's the catch?

IMessage not working on iMac after iOS8 install on iPhone

I installed iOS8 on my iPhone and my iPad but it seems to have caused iMessage to stop working on my iMac. It tells me that I cannot use my Apple ID for iMessage at this time !? Strange!
I updated the OS on the iMac to the most recent update but the iMessage still does not work. It is giving me an error message to contact Apple support with a code number shown. I did that but since its sunday today nobody was available who would know how to fix it, which is VERY annoying.
If anybody knows what to do could you please let me know.

There is no official public documentation of that alert as far as I know, but apparently it can sometimes mean that the same Apple ID is being used with the iTunes Store or one of the other Apple content stores, and the payment method is invalid. Sign in to the store and review your account. You do not, of course, have to provide any billing information to set up an account to use only with iMessage, as it's a no-charge service.
Another possibility is that the primary or alternate email address is invalid. Search the Web for the phrase "My Apple ID." The top hit should be an Apple web page with that title. I'm not giving a direct link because such links are never to be trusted. Sign in and verify the ID.
Otherwise, do as the alert directs. According to reports, you won't be charged for the support call if you select "Apple ID"—not the hardware model—as the product you're asking about, and cite the "customer code" in the alert as the "validation code" when you speak to the Apple representative. I can't confirm.

On my laptop when I open up a pdf file and do a search for a particular
text phrase it prompts me to run a character analysis. Whereas on my mac
mini, when I try to engage the same process it just says it couldn't find
the phrase and doesn't even try and run a character analysis. I tried
clicking on the tool bar and the recognize text tab but nothing there seems
to do anything.
In trying to figure out the issue on my own I noticed one thing. I run a
small law firm in St. Louis and I scan in all my files to which are
subsequently emailed to my outlook account where I will save them as pdf's
to their respective folders. On my laptop when I open up an email from my
scanner I see the image of a acrobat document next to the attachment
paperclip symbol. However, when I open up the same email on my mac mini I
notice instead of an acrobat file image it shows a Preview file image (the
program used to open up pdf's before I installed acrobat).

Phrases "restoreState" and "saveState" aren't displayed and value of submitedCategoryItemID not restored. :/ What's happend?

yes you can,
in your source add a master_name column and in that make the navigation.
in the master_id column go to column format and style options and check the Use Custom CSS style option and type,
display: none
now in your source the master_id column will get hidden. in your target make the master_id prompted.
now click on the master_name in your source, your target will get filtered by the corresponding msater_id

Translator Widget not working

Yes i am connected to the internet and the translator widget says data unavailable. Whats up with the widget?

I am also having a problem with my Translater Widget not working. When enter a phrase to be translated I get the following message: "Data unabailable." I don't understand what is happening. On day the Widget is working the next day it is not. Would appreciate knowing how to resolve this problem.

Dictation works not working

There are a lot of phrases that are supposed to make key commands possible with dictation, that do not work. Such as caps lock, caps, and the @ sign, often does not work. Sometimes the @ sign works, though... But caps NEVER works.
Are there any others, and are there any fixes?
