Error message in Terminal upon startup?

Hi, I'm a new Mac user.
I was installing a few things on my new MacBook Pro (XCode, XQuartz, X11, and Homebrew) when I noticed some funky error message that I get whenever I open Terminal.
It says: -bash: export: `/usr/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/X11/bin': not a valid identifier.
I am still getting used to my Mac after a decade of Windows, and I have no clue what this error means or how to fix it.  Could anyone enlighten me?

Hi there,
Sorry for just jumping in on this convo but it seems more relevant to my issue and I don't think creating a new topic would be advised.
I have a similar issue. Whenever I open a new shell session / window I get the following output;
Last login: Fri Aug  8 14:24:02 on ttys000
Process name
Warren-MacBook:etc warren$ Process name
-bash: Process: command not found
Warren-MacBook:etc warren$
The line which says -bash: Process: command not found is whats bugging me.
I tried to editing the following files;
sudo vi /.bash_profile
sudo vi /Users/warren/.profile
None of them have any reference to a startup command which invokes a process.
I have mlocate installed and when I run;
locate .bash
I only get the above two files.
I have also looked at cron, and there are no jobs added so I'm really in the dark as to how to resolve this. If you are able to assist it would be much appreciated.

  • My Pavillion G6 - 1a52nr gets error code (ks.sys) upon startup

    My computor keeps restarting because of error code (ks.sys), it then restarts auto and I can not do anything. Any suggestions.  And I am not able to troubleshoot since I can not keep it on long enough. thx

    Hi @SeaDog90 ,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g6-1a52nr Notebook and issues with error code (ks.sys) upon startup. This error is linked to either software that you have just installed or new Hardware that is connected. Try performing a hard reset.
    When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
    Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows 8.
    If you installed new hardware try to remove it from the Notebook to see if this helps.
    Can get to safe mode with command prompt?
     F11 upon startup choose safe mode with Networking.
    Then you can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. I recommend doing this for at least 2 weeks prior to this happening.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks.

    I looked thought the documens and his instuctions seem a bit over the top.  So to help we can iver start from the begining or try to fix what you have.  If you want to fix what you have I first need to know:
    1) where did you put the baikal-regular folder after you downloaded it?
    2) Can you cut and past "/etc/apache2/httpd.conf  It is wrong.

    It seems to be a problem with the spool. Please check that the expired spools on the system are cleared.

  • Error message on Windows 2000 startup, "Tcmsvr.dll, File is missing"

    We get the same error messages three times on Windows 2000 startup on some of our companys computers: "Tcmsvr.dll, File is missing". The computers are Tecra s1 models.
    Which Toshiba driver is this related to?

    I have checked the Toshiba driver page and it seems that the common modules for Tecra S1 are not available.
    Anyway, the Tcmsvr.dll file could be also a part of Toshiba console. Its very difficult to detect it.
    The Toshiba console is available on the driver page.
    It's worth a try.

  • Error message on LR5 CC startup

    Same problem in LR4 and in LR5: On startup, I get a long error message in computer code. The message appears over the LR screen as I last used it. I cannot do anything in LR because of the error message--not even choose File/Quit. I must Force Quit the application to do anything at all on my Mac, which is running OS 10.7.5.
    Yesterday I upgraded to LR5 CC and was able to import my catalog from LR4 and use the app. I shut down normally and turned off the computer. Today I turned it on, opened LR5, and had the problem. And Adobe provides no weekend support!?!?
    Help!

    More info: The error message begins with:
    An internal error has occurred.
    html passed to JSON:decode(): <IDOCTYPE html PUBLIC*"-/W3C/DTD XHTML 1.0 Transistional//EN""http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    The error message continues; it is so long that the code extends beyond the bottom of my screen.

  • Error Message in Terminal: unknown variable 'datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data'

    Hello,
    I'm on a Mac Pro Quad Core Intel Xeon (64-bit) using OS 10.6.4. I have mysqlnd 5.0.5-dev - 081106 - $Revision: 289630 $ and PHP Version 5.3.1.
    I have also installed phpMyAdmin 3.3.1 and have set up the relations tables in a pmadb within mysql; created a new database with tables; and created some new users. I am able to access and use mysql via phpMyAdmin.
    But now I am unable to login to mysql via the Terminal command:
    mysql -u root -p
    which now returns an error message of:
    /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql: unknown variable 'datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data'
    my.cnf file reads:
    [mysqld]
    datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data
    socket=/var/mysql/mysql.sock
    #skip-grant-tables=1
    [client]
    datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data
    socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
    and I can see the data directory in that location when using the Terminal.
    My questions:
    1. Is this related to anything I have done in setting up phpMyAdmin (tables, users)?
    2. Is this a permissions problem with the directory named /usr/local/mysql/data?
    Currently, the permissions and ownership are this:
    drwxr-x--- 11 _mysql wheel 374 Jun 29 12:10 data
    3. Is this a problem from upgrading to 10.6.4 recently?
    4. Is this a my.cnf problem?
    I would really like to be able to do things in the Terminal with mysql in addition to using phpMyAdmin.
    Many thanks for any help on this.
    Best,
    Shelley

    Thanks for your suggestion, etresoft, but this was not helpful, I'm afraid. Removing datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data did not work. And prior to using phpMyAdmin, I was able to login via Terminal with this in place.
    Try removing my.cnf. It isn't required and seems to be giving you problems.
    Also, the mysql socket value is what comes with new Macs with Snow Leopard.
    MySQL doesn't come on any new Mac except with Snow Leopard Server. I think we've had this conversation before and came to the conclusion that you don't have the server version, just a jacked up client.
    I am noticing that the Terminal error message I get is saying:
    /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql: unknown variable . . .
    whereas the data directory path is /usr/local/mysql/data
    There is no data directory in /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql
    The program that is reporting the error is is /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql.
    My MySQL installation does not have a my.cnf file. It does have a number of example cnf files that I could use if I wanted to jack up my installation. None of them have a "datadir" value in them. If you don't want to get rid of my.cnf altogether, the just get rid of all of the datadir values inside it.

  • Getting "process android.process.acore has stopped" error message on S4 at startup.

    OTA upgrade to Kitkat was successful, however, i now have the error message "unfortunately the process android.process.acore has stopped" at startup. cant make or receive phone calls, also cannot access apps due to error message being constantly displayed.

    Verizon gave a solution above in an earlier thread. So there is guidance much as it is.
    You have researched this issue and yet admitting not just on Verizon but other carriers as well you then feel hesitant to renew and get a device from Verizon. That "Bug" was done to all providers.
    I always look to the Android Forums or XDA to see if solutions or fixes have been listed. I like to also Google it and many times the solutions are found.
    Verizon tech support on the phone may have an answer 1-800-922-0204 or *611 from your mobile device. Verizon will only give you what they have as a possible solution on their database.
    Good Luck

    Click on OK to terminate the program
    Click on CANCEL to debug the program
    Either of the above options terminates Mozilla - neither option fixes the problem - however Mozilla works as long as the error message remains on the desktop.

    We cannot know. You are not offering any system information nor actually telling what program you use and what you do when the crash occurs.

  • Error message in Dreaweaver upon Start-up....

    Hi,
    I'm running Dreaweaver CS4 on a windows 7 system, which has been running smoothly up until 2 days ago.  Now, every time I start-up Dreaweaver, I keep getting the following error message "Unable to find file SME.htm in the Configuration/Floaters directory. The floater will not be shown."  I've searched the FAQ's for a solution to this, but haven't been able to find anything that deals with this error message.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    You can do a partial uninstall and install of the Premium Suite.
    Before going to the trouble of reinstalling Dreamweaver, take a moment to read the following: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/530874. When you uninstall, your personal configuration folder is normally left intact. Although this is normally a good thing, because it preserves all your preferences, it usually defeats the purpose of reinstalling. Try deleting (or renaming) your personal configuration folder first.

  • Fatal error in APE 12 upon startup

    I just downloaded APE 12 and i get the following message when i attempt to start a new project   "Premiere Elements has encountered an error" Src\Core\Preferences.cpp-338
    how do i fix this?

    myokley
    Let us go with the following to target the preferences...
    For now I am assuming that your Premiere Elements 12 is on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer
    Local Disc C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    12.0
    and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Make sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path.
    We will be watching for your results.
    Plus the usual drill...
    a. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 12
    b. Are you working from Run As Administrator or User Account with Administrative Privileges?
    Thanks.

  • Error message on Terminal

    I have installed gcc from the mac OSX DVD, then run the ./configure command on terminal, and the next error was show:
    configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

    I don't understand the config.log file, and I want to now how to solve this.
    Please help!!!!

    Did you install all the software, or do a custom install? It sounds like you might have an incomplete installation. I'd suggest re-installing Xcode, but make sure you just install everything unless you're absolutely sure you won't need it. It's a lot of stuff, unless you really know what you're doing, it's too easy to miss something crucial.
    The software I want to install is Squid(a caching proxy for the Web), the page is www.squid-cache.org
    I just downloaded version 3.0.STABLE6 and ran the configure script. It looks good to me. I have almost 16,000 lines in the config.log. Here are the last few:
    #define DEFAULTFDSETSIZE 1024
    #define SQUID_MAXFD 10240
    #define SQUIDDETECT_UDP_SOSNDBUF 9216
    #define SQUIDDETECT_UDP_SORCVBUF 42080
    #define SQUIDTCP_SOSNDBUF 32768
    #define SQUIDTCP_SORCVBUF 65535
    #define HAVE_STATVFS 1
    #define HAVERES_NSADDRLIST 1
    configure: exit 0
    Post the last dozen or so lines in your config.log and let me know about what line number it's at and I'll compare it to mine...

  • Error Message: Your mac osx startup disk has no more space available for application memory.

    Hi everyone:
    I have a 2010 27" imac.  Dual Core i3, 3.2 GHz and 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM, and a 90% empty 500 GB Hard Drive.  Running Snow Leopard 10.6.6
    I have received a message intermittently since I got the iMac.  The Force Quit menu comes up and says "Your mac osx startupdisk has no more space available for application memory".  Sometimes there are a few applications open.  Sometimes none.  Whenever I look in the Activity Monitor Utility I see 2 or 3 gigs of RAM still available for use, and lots of hard drive space.
    Im not sure why I'm getting the message, nor what to do to rectify it.  Quitting applications, like it suggests doesn't seem to help.
    I am grateful for any advice.
    Lauren

    Hey Lauren.
    First of all you do have some software updates you should be doing. 10.6.7 came out a few weeks ago. Sometimes doing all of your software updates resolve issues such as this.
    To check for software updates click the Apple and then Software updates.
    As this issue is someone broad, I would test one of the articles below to narrow down your issue.

    Let me know if you need extra ideas.
    Regards,
    Britt.

  • Im so new it hurts, I keep getting an error message when trying to startup

    PLEASEEEE help me I didnt buy an ipod for nothing (I hope). I think I downloaded Itunes awhile back before I had an iPod for some strange reason. Anyway, after trying to install v9.0 of iTunes several times, realized that all things Apple needed to be uninstalled and removed, I did so. I made sure EVERYTHING was gone. I went into programs and Sytem32 all things on my C drive even bonjour and everything, trust me its all gone....... When I finally get things installed I get the quicktime icon as well as the Itunes icon on my desktop. When I click on Itunes it says "Apple Application Support not Found, Error 2" when I click on the quicktime icon it says "The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see event log for more details." Cant find event log and even if I had Im sure it wouldnt give me the RIGHT details.
    I have been sweating over a hot computer for 3 hours now. (not literally) but really 3 hours.......PLEASE please please help me

    Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
    Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
    The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
    Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

    HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
