Errors -3 and 1402 and 1603

well, let me say that this is my first posting and itunes drove me to do it!
i've had itunes/windows for about four months and probably used/opened it about 10 times. then, last week, i opened it and was told that i needed to upgrade to the latest version of quicktime. but, as has been painfully and frequently recounted on this forum, quicktime goes through the motions of upgrading only to flash (me) errors -3, 1402, and 1603. let me say that
i've read a number of the threads relative to these error messages and nothing i tried -- neither apple's nor bnoir's suggestions -- worked. i cleaned out temp files, uninstalled itunes and quicktime, downloaded the stand-alone quicktime version, disabled anti-virus and firewall programs, used windows installer, made registry changes, shut down all programs, and sent up the apple version of the bat signal.
i was willing to just call my lost music (fortunately, only about 30 songs) a casualty of a code war but my xeric "earthdesk" wallpaper said it needed quicktime 6.something or above to function (Note: it was odd that even after i had deleted quicktime and itunes [using the uninstall feature], earthdesk still worked -- but then, after one more download and attempt at installing quicktime, earthdesk said it needed quicktime in order to work). since i had just purchasede earthdesk, i as motivated to get some version of quicktime back on my computer. so, i found a site where i could downoad my previous 6.something quicktime version. earthdesk works again, but i've not bothered to try itunes.
my final point is this: it's hard to tell how many of the millions of itunes users are having difficulty upgrading quicktime. if this forum is at all representative, this seems to be a common/pervasive problem. software is inherently tempermental and maybe this is something that apple needs to look at. i'm not blaming apple b/c no product is perfect. all i'm saying is that maybe this is a big enough problem to merit apple's attention.

  • Want to buy QT 7, but cant get free version to install Errors 1714 and 1603

    Hi all,
I was trying to install QT 7.x on this XP Pro machine and it failed and now after uninstalling QT and iTunes, I get errors 1714 and 1603 when trying to re-install iTunes.
I tried the QT installer by itself, will not install
    http://www.freetochoosemedia.org/Itunesinstallerror.jpg
I went thru regedt32 and deleted all registries for items and QT and also all files, still no go.
And the above error message is pointing to a file that is right where the error says, so its not missing.
I have spent about 2 days trying to resolve this and WANT to BUY QT 7 pro, but not if it is never going to run onthis machine.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm getting the same error messages when trying to install the latest version of Quicktime along with the message 'unable to locate file c:\windows\downloaded installations\{59C4F14F-7590-45FC-BE9F-A67AB3590709}\iTunes.msi
I'm also being instructed to contact my technical support group (whoever and wherever they are).
I tried running the program that Jacumba recommends to no avail.
I wouldn't mind being permanently without iTunes, or Quicktime come to think of it, but unfortunately I need Quicktime to use a training program that I've bought, and there doesn't seem to be an alternative.

  • HELP!!! getting errors 1335 and 1603

I've tried forever to install itunes 5 but I can't! Right before the installation ends, I get an error message that says:
Error 1335. The cabinet file 'iTunes.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
Once I click cancel on the the error (There is a button for retry on the error but it still doesn't work) it asks if I want to quit and then I click yes and then another error pops up that says:
    Error:-1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
Ive tried so many times to install itunes and i get the same results. They dont give out an older version of itunes so i am basically screwed with no itunes a the moment. Also when it asks for me to consult to the Windows Installer Help, where can i look at that. Somebady please help me with my problem so i can get itunes back!
    Daniel

okay, so choice of drive doesn't seem to be a factor.
I just went hunting on the web and found an alternate cause of this described for a different software package:
    b quote
This error message can also occur under the following circumstances:
    A. If you have an anti-virus application enabled during installation
    B. If you are running Windows XP and have Norton Firewall on during the download and/or installation
The solution to (A) is to disable the anti-virus application during the installation of the program. That is, leave the anti-virus application on during the download of the LifeJournal demo, but disable the anti-virus program during the installation of the demo.
The solution to (B) is to disable the Norton Firewall during the download and the installation.
    b end quote
    b are
you running an antivirus or Norton Firewall during your installations? if so, i guess it can't hurt to download a copy of the installer to your hard drive, shut the antivirus and firewall down, and try the installation one more time.

  • Error 1316 and 1402 FAIL

Am posting this to help save others from the Adobe and Microsoft near-disaster I just went through this morning. Unfortunately, I do not have a solution to these two error messages and, like many of you, am wondering why after years of trouble-free Adobe Reader installations, the latest version of 9.3 simply will not install.
If you are going to experiment with some of the changes suggested elsewhere in this forum, take heed.  BEFORE you make any changes to your computer, make sure Windows System Restore is set up and working properly (you can search for "system restore" in "Help and Support" in Windows to find it).  System Restore basically saved my a** today.
The backstory is that I, like many others, cannot install Adobe Reader 9.3.  There are a number of suggested solutions on the Adobe Reader forum for error 1316.  They may get you further along in the Adobe Reader 9.3 installation process, but then you may hit "error 1402".
Here is what I did and here is what happened (running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit on a PC with capacity and memory to spare):
    1. Saved the Adobe Reader 9.3 installation file to my desktop so that I could run it locally.
    2. Uninstalled the prior version of Adobe Reader using the Control Panel.
    3. Rebooted.
    4. Deactivated my antivirus software.
    5. Closed all Windows apps.
    6. Ran the Adobe Reader 9.3 installation setup and got Error 1316: "A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file ...AppData\Local\Adobe\Reader9.3\SetupFiles\AdbeRdr930_en_us.msi."
    7. Based on advice found on this forum I used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility - WARNING - DO NOT USE THIS WITH Office 2007 installed on your PC (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301). The advice on this forum didn't mention Microsoft's warning on this and I didn't know.  So even though I only checked the box for Adobe Reader, it totally messed up Office 2007.  When I tried to open Outlook 2007, it wanted to reinstall Office 2007, and then it said I didn't have correct permissions to do the reinstall (but I had administrative privileges enabled...wtf?)
    8. Ironically, using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility got me further along in the Adobe 9.3 installation process, but then I hit Error 1402: "Could not open key \Unknown\Components\C37BC61A283[continues for many more characters]. Verify that you have sufficient resources to access that key." Cannot get past this error.
    9. Uninstalled the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and rolled the OS back four days to a point where Outlook would launch without problems.
    10. Reactivated the antivirus software.
This whole mess has wasted hours of time and I still can't install the newest version of Adobe 9.3.  There are lots of postings about these two error codes so it appears to be a common issue - does Adobe read these forums? Instead of asking their customers to fix the problem, how about they fix it? (Yes, Adobe Reader is free, but I purchased Photoshop Elements so would consider myself an Adobe customer).
    Sorry for the rant.

I am so pleased to have found this posting. Have just spent 90 minutes trying to download 9.3.2 so my daughter can, supposedly, get full value from her school's Moodle site. Keep getting Error 1316 even after trying all the suggestions on the Adobe site, eg "save software first and then run". And in the middle of all this I got an autogenerated request to participate in an Adobe end user satisfaction survey! If someone out there has solved this without the need to upgrade to W7 please let us know. Meantime, I'm going to do some gardening.

  • Error 1406 and 1402 When Installing iTunes

Each time I attempt to download the new version of iTunes, it says I have an error 1406 or 1402. I have received instructions previously for this problem because this has happened before, but now they are failing to work. These are the directions I have:
    For install error code 1406 & 1402:
    Try the following:
Start menu -> Run. Type in "regedit" (this takes you to the Registry Editor)
Find the heading HKEYLOCALMACHINE. Click on it.
Find the heading SOFTWARE inside it. Click on it.
    Find the heading Classes. Click
    Find the heading .cdda. Click
    Find the heading OpenWithList. Click
Right-click on "OpenWithList" folder. Select Permissions. Select Add button. Select the Advanced button. Select "Find Now" button.
The "Find Now" button should list all of the users, Select the "Everyone" user. Hit OK. This closes this dialog. Hit OK in the dialog box now on top. This closes this dialog.
On the Permissions for OpenWithList box now on top, select "allow" checkbox in the "full control" row & hit OK.
Do the exact same thing for the OpenWithProgids folder. Close regedit and try the install again.
Are there any suggestions besides these directions that could possibly help me successfully download iTunes?

Well after I do all the steps it tells me to do, I try installing again, and the exact errors come up.
    hi James!
okay, we'd better check explicitly on your administrative rights in your user account. head into your user accounts control panel to see. let's also try the Installshield tips and pointers:

  • Errors 9006 and 1671

I attempted to update my ipod ( to  iOS 8.1.3 ) but now it's stuck on the 'connect to itunes' screen. I tried to restore it but it keeps giving me the errors 9006 and 1671. I can't update it or recover it. I tried; turning on and off my ipod, updating Itunes, turning off firewall, exiting and re-entering Itunes, shutting down my computer and restarting, and updating my windows. But it is still stuck on the same screen. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Check your USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4005, 4013, 4014, or “invalid response."
If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you may be unable to update or restore.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use the USB cable that came with your device, or a different Apple USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port directly on your computer. Don't plug it into your keyboard.
    Try a different computer.
If necessary, resolve any further issues with the USB connection, then with your security software.
If you're still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues by following the next section.
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • IPod Touch errors (2002) and (14)

I got error (14) while I was trying to update my Moms iPod Touch (1st Gen) to the latest iPhone software on my computer. I kept trying to update it and it said the same thing. So I gave up and went to try it on her computer, now when I tried to update it on hers it said error (2002). I would like to know how to fix these problems if I can, and also what they are.

Ok. I have spent the last 8 hours researching this problem and have the absolute 110% answer to everyone's problem with this issue.
Error 13 and 14 : Are checksum problems with the firmware image that is in the update package.
The update package is a .ipsw (IPod or IPhone SoftWare). This file is actually just a .zip renamed .ipsw.
The error is caused by a failure to download a crc-free version of the file. Not really sure why there are so many crc problems with the iphone updates, but Apple does not check the integrity of the update package before wiping your current version of IPhone software and that is why all IPhones that start an update with a bad update package end up in recovery mode. These errors are NOT related to the iTunes installation, antivirus software, or firewalls.
Recommendation : use a program like "Object Fix" (Freeware) to verify the integrity of the file prior to commencing with any new updates. You will have to keep trying to download it until you get a error free file. Once you have a CRC error free file this problem will go away. (I thought TCP/IP helped get rid of CRC errors.)
I had another problem and that was...
Error 1603 and 1604 : These are USB driver connectivity problems.
Recommendation : FULLY uninstall and re-install itunes software as stated in the Apple support documentation. Be sure to reboot between each step and these problems should clear themselves up. In addition, firewalls and anti-virus software may cause these errors as well.
Finally, shame on apple for not properly documenting their software so that end users do not have to decrypt their error messages with no true support to solve the issues. These are problems that enough people have had that there should be specific documentation on these problems.
