Ethernet lan adapter slow and intermittent

Hi everyone,
I got my new W540 a couple of weeks ago. installed Windows 8.1. Ran system update , windows update.Everything went fine except for the Ethernet adapter that keeps giving me hard time. wired connection is slow and intermittent. whan i satrt a ping to the gateway, I get many timeouts though ethernet status is showing "connected". wireless works great and also if I use an Ethernet USB adapter evrything is fine. So I came to the conclusion that I might have a hardware problem and the Ethernet adapter is simply defect. Did anyone have the same problem. Any suggestions.
Thanks.

Hmm, might be a terminology problem..
I thought you meant: "list one of each make/model/type, discard duplicates".
When you say "Ethernet adaptor", what do you mean - the wired interfaces? Physical (not virtual, tunnel)?
Not WWAN?
Ethernet is actually a very broad term...

  • Count ethernet/LAN adapter types

    Hi,
    I need to run a report which will show me a simple count/list of all the different ethernet network adapters in our environment. The built-in report under Hardware - Network Adapter gives a good starting point - but it lists
    ALL of them. Is it too much to hope that there's an easy way to filter this down? Or do I have to add dozens of lines to the report query along the lines of: 'and v_GS_NETWORK_ADAPTER.Description0 not like 'wi-fi'',
    'and v_GS_NETWORK_ADAPTER.Description0 not like 'bluetooth'', 'and v_GS_NETWORK_ADAPTER.Description0 not like 'WiMax', etc. etc. etc. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Macbook Pro WIFI connection slow and intermittent

    I recently moved to a new apartment and had Time Warner install our internet/Wifi. My Macbook Pro will connect to the Wifi and work fine for about 30-60 seconds and then become extremely slow, even to the point of no connection most times. I have tried using both the new router and the old router that worked just fine at our old apartment but both behave the same way. I have reset the routers multiple times but that does not fix the situation and I do not believe the router is the problem since my two roommates (one of which uses a Macbook Pro) have no connection problem. My iPhone connects perfectly fine as well. When I am on other Wifi addresses, my Macbook works just fine. Also, my Macbook is only one month old. I called Apple to try and solve the problem and they believe it is an interference problem however the connection remains the same no matter how close or far from the router I am and all other devices don't seem to have interference problems. Any help is very much appreciated!
    Eric

    Might be corrupted network preferences ..
    Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    Click Go then move all the files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
    See if that makes a difference.
    Your Mac will generate a new SystemConfiguration folder for you.

  • Slow and Intermittent DSL

    I have a Actiontec GT704. It is connected at a telephone jack located at the service entrance in the basement. The filter resides in the verizon box on the outside wall. I ran the Verizon speedtest and got 240.4KBits download. The modem is connected at 992 / 448 Kbps. If I powercycle the modem it will connect at 1742, but unfortunately it doesn't stay there very long. I am signed up for the 1.5M service.
    SNR Margin (Downstream/Upstream): 7/15
    Attenuation (Downstream/Upstream): 63/31
    It seems like the problems started when the outside temperatures started warming up.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    MK

    Margin (dB) - Signal to noise margin. 6 is pretty bad possibly unusable at times, 20 is very good. You normally want 12dB or better IIRC from back in my DSL days. The higher the number, the better to a point.
    Line Attenuation - Measure the amount the signal has degraded. Below 20dB is excellent, above 50 is poor, fill in the dots for anything in between.
    Hmm...
    #1 Did you try connecting your modem directly to the NID?
    Points to: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1317
    #2 If not, please do and retest those margins and Line Attenuation.

  • Remote Desktop to netbook very slow and laggy

    Remote Desktop to netbook over local ethernet is very slow and laggy. Netbook is Atom N280 with 2GB RAM and GPU with WDDM 1.0 driver. On Windows 7 all works fine even with an Aero Glass enabled for remote session. Now DWM consumes 10 to 25% permanently
    so I think it's a DWM problem. Network traffic is only up to 6Mb/s over 100Mbit LAN connection. Is there a way to connect to Windows 8 netbook useful way?

    Hi, sorry for my late reply but I didn't get notification about your post. I tried these settings and it is laggy same way. I read on Internet desktop composition in Windows 8 is always enabled regardless of RDP client settings. Display adapter is Mobile
    Intel 946 Express Chipset Family. I tried to install Standard VGA driver, but it is also very slow. I'll try clean install to VHD now to avoid any 3rd party software impact.
    Edit: I tried and it's slow even after a clean install.
    Edit2: It is an Intel 945 Express Chipset Family.

  • Can the Gigabit Ethernet LAN Port be used with a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet adaptor and then to a Thunderbolt Hard Drive as a back up drive?

    Can the Gigabit Ethernet LAN Port be used with a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet adaptor and then to a Thunderbolt Hard Drive as a back up drive?

    If you use ethernet to connect the two AirPort Extremes together, you'll have Gigabit speeds available at all of the ethernet ports on both routers.
    If you connect the second AirPort Extreme using wireless only and configure the Extreme to "extend a wireless network", then the maximum speeds that the second router can attain will be limited to the capability of the wireless connection. So, if you connect at normal "n" wireless speeds of say 130 Mbps, that will be the maximum speed available at the ethernet ports on the second AirPort Extreme.
    I think you can easily see the difference between Gigabit ethernet, which is 1000 Mbps compared to "n" wireless at 130 Mbps. Even if you can manage to connect at 5 GHz speeds for wireless, the max speed will be in the 300 Mbps range, more than 3 times slower than Gigabit ethernet. Normal "n" speeds will be about 7 times slower than ethernet.
    For streaming high definition video and other demanding sources, you'll need as much bandwidth (speed) as you can get. Ethernet is always the best choice if you can possibly use it. And...there's no wireless interference on an ethernet connection.

  • T42 and LAN adapter not visible

    Hi, I have a T42, which worked flawlessly until I've had to replace the HDD in my pc and installed XP SP3.  Wireless works but I cannot get the LAN adapter to work. The Intel LAN adapter is NOT visible in device mgr.  I have solved all the hardware conflicts from the XP install.     t42-2373-C28.    How can I get the hard wired LAN to work?
    thanks

If lead_org's test does not work. Try uninstalling the ethernet driver and see if DRIVERMAX will find the driver for you. http://www.drivermax.com/ Have you also checked the Network connections to see what it says?

  • Netctl: Using same ethernet interface for PPPoE and LAN

    Configuration overview
    One ethernet interface connected to a switch which has both the LAN and my ADSL router (running in bridge mode).
    My Arch PC should connect via PPPoE (possibly multiple connections) to the ISP and be able to access the LAN simultaniously. (Connection sharing is another goal, but that is not yet relevant...)
    The main reason for not changing the setup is that some other people on the LAN use their own ISP accounts over the same line.
    I currently have two netctl profiles, adsl (PPPoE) and ethernet (LAN).
    I also want the ability to run two PPPoE sessions simultaniously (with routing to determine which data uses which connection). (This is not currently relevant, but have been in the past and might be again in the future...)
    The problem:
    I'm unable to connect to both the ethernet and ADSL profiles simultaniosly.
    I tried to switch to Network manager, but it has a known bug preventing the same interface from being used for both plain LAN and PPPoE.
    The workaround that currently seem to work, is to use ifconfig to manually add an IPv4 address to the ethernet interface after connecting the PPPoE session.
    The systax for a PPP profile also have the unusual feature that its "Interface" value refers to the underlying interface, rather than the created PPP interface.
    I currently have it working on my Ubuntu HDD and previusly had it working on Gentoo.
    (Under a standard Windows XP / 7, it works with a single connection, but multiple simultanious PPPoE connections require soem non-standard tools...)
    The Ubuntu setup
    eth0 is set up by NetworkManager (I didn't have the option to avoid that one...) and I have the PPPoE connections configured in my /etc/interfaces: (ppp0 is not currently in use, was previously)
    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback
    iface ppp0 inet ppp
    pre-up /sbin/ifconfig eth0 up # line maintained by pppoeconf
    provider dsl-provider-local
    auto ppp1
    iface ppp1 inet ppp
    pre-up /sbin/ifconfig eth0 up # line maintained by pppoeconf
    provider dsl-provider-intl
    I then have these files under /etc/ppp/peers: (with the name mathing the "provider" line) An example below. (passwords are in the /etc/ppp/*-secrets files)
    unit 0 # This specifies that the created connection uses ppp0, differs in others.
    noipdefault
    hide-password
    noauth
    persist
    plugin rp-pppoe.so eth0
    user "myuser@radius-domain"
    Arch setup:
    ADSL profile:
    Description='ISPName'
    Interface=enp4s0
    Connection=pppoe
    User='username@radius-server'
    Password='mysecret'
    ConnectionMode='persist'
    #UsePeerDNS=true
    # Override default LCP parameters from /etc/ppp/options
    LCPEchoInterval=15
    LCPEchoFailure=10
    Ethernet profile:
    Description='A basic static ethernet connection'
    Interface=enp4s0
    Connection=ethernet
    IP=static
    Address=('192.168.0.8/24')
    Solutions / Workarounds
    1. Manually configuring a IP after connecting PPPoE
    2. Not using netctl for pppoe, rather using the pppoe-setup tool
    3, Figuring out the correct netctl setup for this scenario - which is what I need your help for...

    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=163956
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sh … Connection - Insists that an extra interface is needed for sharing connections - which is not a fundemental Linux requirement

    I used to use ubuntu & if you reboot into it (if you can) & run:
    $ ifconfig
    you will see eth0 & ppp1
    ppp1 will be set as the default gateway.
    Your issue in Arch is that you currently want the PPPoE interface to be the same as your LAN, this will not work at best you will need to bridge the 2 BUT I think what you should do is use the networkmanager profile as a guide & have  netctl create an adsl interface called ppp1 & set that as the default gateway
    thus:
    Description='ISPName'
    Interface=ppp1
    Connection=pppoe
    User='username@radius-server'
    Password='mysecret'
    ConnectionMode='persist'
    #UsePeerDNS=true
    # Override default LCP parameters from /etc/ppp/options
    LCPEchoInterval=15
    LCPEchoFailure=10
    I think this will work, try it & good luck
    PS:
    I do not use netctl as I use dhcp but you might even be able to configure netctl to set ppp1 as default gateway as a "post-up" command OR just create a systemd service to do it after the relevant netctl services are up

  • T60p and T61 LAN adapter connection issues

    Hi all,
    Strange issue concerning LAN adapter on both T60p and T61.  Either thinkadvantage laptop is at a different remote location connected to headquarters via a ptp link(fibre). This remote link has been updated recently.  DHCP is assigned from main officeto all user locally and at the two remote sites.
    For some very strange reaso, these both laptops are the only systems at the remote site that cannot get assigend ip settings via DHCP.  Also if I manually assign them static ip settings, (the limited or no connectivity icon disappears) which i presumed but there is still no connectivity to these two laptops via ping cmds etc.
    Even more strange is when these laptops are brought to back to headquarters and are plugged into the network here, they get assigned ip settings like they should and everything works like it should.
    Also all the other systems at the remote sites get their ip settings dynamically like they should.
    The LAN adapters are intel
    I have reinstalled drivers, used winsock repair tools and also plugged the laptops directly into the fibre swtich on the dedicated vlan port that connects to the local swtich at the sites.  Still same syptom
    I am very confused at the moment and would appreciate any advice or solution.  At the moment I believe its how the network card communicates with the protocol on link maybe there is an issue.  I am not sure. Appreciate any input guys/gals

    Hi,
    Do you enable ESB email notification in ESB Control for your ESB system and mail still not received?
    Some errors cannot be caught by ESB email notification (for example, you use polling DB-adapter and provide a incorrect login password and so on, you can use rejection handlers for this type of errors. I not implemented this yet in our system but think it should work).
    Errors raised when you ESB-process already started - may be caught.
    You will receive email with flow_id, initial payload and error message (if didn't use asynchronous calls: bug 7616012 - error message is empty when error raised after asynchronous service invocation in 10.1.3.3 (can be not visible..)).
    Best Regards,
    Mikhail.

    Hello,
    I have very similar problem. Suddenly Firefox stopped work - It was working few days after ver. 4 update. I was looking everywhere for some solution but nothing worked.
    - uninstalled firewall - did not worked
    - added full exception for Firefox into the firewall - did not worked
    - Firefox reinstall - did not worked
    - Firefox complete reinstall (registry included) - did not worked
    - IPv6 diseabling - did not worked
    - diferent proxy options (no proxy, system proxy, autodetect proxy) - did not worked
    - new firefox profile - did not worked
    - complete coockies, history... deleted - did not worked
    - there is only one solution which partly works - I have used public proxy addresses for Firefox but the ping is (750ms), down/up (0.8MB/0.2MB originaly (10MB/2MB) and yes I have tried different proxy server from different countries from my included.
    - IE is working perfectly and without proxy
    - other companies browser - did not worked too
    - only IE is working
    - I have used three different malware, trojans, spyware, anti-virus programs and nothing
    It seems to me as hopeless situation or very clever move from Microsoft, I am forced to use IE - at least this works
    Any ideas, solutions?

  • G460 and Windows 7 problems (Failed updates, LAN Adapter sometimes fails, etc...)

    Hello everbody! I am having problems with Windows 7, well, I Have a original Windows 7 64-bit Retail CD copy and reinstalled on my G460 (The Original Windows OEM version comes with a lot of unecessary software and others stuffs =/), I've formatted and reinstalled, everything gone fine.
    At the first initialization I've noticed LAN adapter was recognized, ok, I've set up IP address and configured Windows Update, it's been found 77 updates (optional updates included), but by default, only  67 updates selected, I let default updates selected and chose to download and install, but after that, only 10 or 13 updates was correctly installed, the others just failed! After reboot, the failed updates appeared to be reinstalled, ok, I chose to reinstall, but at this time, only 20 or 25 updates were correctly installed from the total failed updates, I thought to myself that some updates depends from another to be installed, ok, after three reboots, I've got all updates installed, well, at least that's what the system says, but when I look up at the Update History, I see many updates marked as FAILED, others are marked as sucefully installed, but the marjority are marked as failed! I don't know why it occurs, I've tried to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and it simply fails too. =/
    Another problem too is the LAN Adapter, sometimes when Windows starts, the adapter doesn't work and when I check the Hardware manager, there is a yellow icon on the adapter and it says that the hardware couldn't initialize.
    Anyone with the same problems?

    Duck,
    I am testing now after a clean Windows installation, before I update, I set to off the windows firewall and also lower my router's firewall, I also deselected the LAN Driver Updated, let's see if the problem occurs...
    Hum, about the SP1, like you said, the video card (In my case, Intel HD Graphics) I've tried to download from Intel's site (Driver version: 15.21.10.64.2291): http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Laptop..., but when I try to install, it says that is not the correct driver for the video card, just at the Lenovo's site works correctly (Driver Version: 8.15.10.2104): http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/ot/en/driversdownloads/APR_Driver_List.aspx?CategoryID=880973&OS=W...
    Anyone has experienced this problem?
    Thanks!

  • Aris TG1682 wireless slow and ethernet wired connection

    Have been having a problem with Wireless speeds. The Comcast tech has replaced my single band gateway with a dual band Tg1682g. Did not improve wireless speeds. Have Blast up to 150m. Speed test is about 30-50.When i attach with a wire, I can see the ethernet adapter dropping and reconnecting on the network adapter page. Have two PCs. One at Windows 10 and one at 8.1. Speed test will run wired and shows 30-40. Saw on the forum that this a new gateway so wondering if it has the correct firmware and settings ? also tried using bridge mode to eliminte wireless completely and still see adapter dropping. tech coming back next week to prove my computers are the problem.

    You may want to call Comcast and have them check to see if your gateway has the appropriate firmware for your speed tier.
