Ethernet printer not found on MacBook

Having problems setting up an ethernet printer on my network. It's an HP Laserjet 4000tn which was originally working perfectly through the ethernet port on my iMac.
I have bought a MacBook (version 10.7.4) for more portability and don't like the idea of plugging and unplugging cables in to it regularly.
I have a new Airport Extreme as my router and bought a new Airport Express (wireless to the Extreme) to do the job of airplay and also to provide an ethernet connection for the printer. My MacBook gives me the '+' printer but gives me no options of any printers at all.
I have proved the ethernet connection on my Airport Express by connecting it to a dvd player, airplay is working fine.
I also have a new Apple TV an older g type Airport Express but wouldn't have thought it relevant to my problem.
Is there something wrong with my set-up or is it purely a case of configuring the printer, and if so, any advice on that would be very useful.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. You are correct about the "allow wireless clients" box with the "extend a network" setting, and everything else about that Express looks OK. The "Default Gateway" should be your router's addess (probably 10.0.1.1 given your chosen AirPort's IP addressing convention) so you're correct about that too. Nothing is wrong with your network as far as I can determine.
...I changed the printer's IP to 10.0.1.10, the same as the Express
Don't do that though. Let the printer receive its IP address from your router - "via DHCP".
So let's figure out why you are unable to add the printer.
First delete whatever printer queue may already exist for that printer in Print & Scan. If you have no other printers at all, then it would be even better if you would right-click (control-click) anywhere in the printer list area and select "Reset printing system...". This will delete every printer in the list and terminate whatever print jobs may have remained. You will be starting with a clean slate.
This is where I'm getting confused:
... I was under the impression that on clicking the '+' brought a drop down menu but I get another box opening with 'Printer name' and 'Kind' across the top and 'Name' with a greyed out 'No selection', 'Location' with a greyed out 'No selection','Print using' with a greyed out box and a greyed out 'Add'.
Something is not right with that. Clicking the "+" should bring up the following:
With an AirPort Express connected printer, yours should appear automatically just like the above. I do not know why it's not.
See if the above "Reset printing system" idea works.

I go online with laptop using wireless but cannot print. Help!

If you know the IP address of the printer, then you can check if there is a working path between the Mac and printer. This can be done using Network Utility or a web browser.
If you open Network Utility and select the Ping tab, you can enter the IP address of the Kodak and then press the Ping button. If there is a working connection then you should get a reply to each packet sent.
With the web browser, many devices have a built-in web server so you can type the IP address of the printer into the browser and if there is a working connection then you will open the printers web page.
So, are you able to confirm you have a working connection between the Mac and printer?

I have a HP Envy 5535. I have only been able to scan one time with it. I scanned 22 documents, after running HP Scan Doc 4.4. Each time the HP Scan Doc states that everything is OK, yet as soon as I try to do even a test scan, I get the error message "Printer not found." Hi @prazdancr,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I am sorry that you cannot scan with your HP Envy 5535, but I am happy to help!
For further assistance I will need to know:
If you are using a Windows or Mac Operating System, and the version number. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
If the printer is connected, Wireless, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies by itself.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
In the meantime, please try going through this scanning guide. A 'The computer is not responding' Error Message Displays During Scanning.

  • Printer not found but my 5510 is connected to the network

Help, my 5510 B111a printer was working fine then suddenly it stopped finding my computer to scan to, and my printed couldn't find it to print to.
I have recently changed my broadband to BT Infinitty 2, but it was working after I changed.
I have restored the the printer to factory settings and reinstalled the new router and it is showing as being connected to the network and shows the IP address.
I re-installed the driver on my laptop but when it tries to add it to  the network it comes up as 'printer not found'. I entered the IP adress it gave me when I connected it to the network but it still comes up as not found.
Going a bit mad here now, can anyone help please?

Sorry that you are having a problem with the printer not being found.
Try to disable the firewall and anti-virus.
Also, plug in a USB cable and see if it gets recognized. If so, then it is something on the network that is blocking the printer ports.

  • Printer not found all of a sudden

I've been merrily printing away from safari to my wireless HP Photosmart C4700 printer for a few months utilizing HD Print Magic when all of a sudden today it's not working.  When I click print in safari to print a page, it says printer not found.  Normally I click print in safari and it sends it through print magic.  I wondered if print magic was seeing the printer, so I opened print magic and indeed the printer was there.  Somehow safari is not seeing my printer.   Does anyone know how to rectify  this?  Help would be appreciated!!

If it is a Safari thing only, maybe resetting Safari as described below will help. The first thing that I would try if you haven't done so already is to simply restart your iPad. These are all sort of generic type things but you can give them a shot ....
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Cache. Then restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut down. To power up, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. Try to print again.
Try this as well. Close Safari and all open apps. If Safari is open - you have to tap the home button before you close the apps. Double tap the home button to bring up the task bar. Tap and hold down on any app icon in the task bar until it wiggles. Then tap the minus signs in the corner of the app icons to close them all. Then restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut down. To power up, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. See if you can print now.
I guess you could also try rebooting your router - sometimes that can fix wireless issues that crop up. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
You can also reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds untilt the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider. See if you can print now.

  • HP Photosmart 7510 series printer (Printer not found)

My HP Photosmart 7510 printer was operating normal.  Then when I tried to scan to the computer I got the following "The HP Photosmart series was not found."  Then I received the following "The device you are trying to access has generated an error; Please ensure that the device has been properly confiqured."  All of the other functions of my printer are working normally.  It prints from the computer, it FAXs correctly (both transmitting and receiving) and copies.  I have not made a changes to the system.  What must I do to get the scanning function back?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @trebor-340-ste ,
I saw your post about the scanning issue you are facing with your Photosmart 7510 and would like to try and help out! I thank you for letting me know you can copy and print!
Could you please respond with which OS you are running and I will research this for you.
In the meantime, please try a power reset and ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly. If you are connected wireless on ethernet, also unplug your router for a minute before starting up the printer and computer.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
    Thank you

  • Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter not connecting on MacBook Pro Retina

I recently purchased the Thunderbolt to Ethernet Adapter to connect to my 13in MacBook Pro Retina Late 2012 (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) to a hardwired internet connection for faster downloads. However, when I connect the ethernet cord to the adapter nothing happens and only the wifi connection is identified.
Ethernet or Thunderbolt Ethernet are not an option in the System Preference > Network. Also, either connection are options when trying to add a network interface ( System Preferences > Network > + > Interface).
I have tried several fixes like Resetting PRAM or Removing Network Preferences File. The NetworkInferences.plist and Preferences.plist files did get recreated after reboot, but only the WIFI interface shows up.

I am sure the Thunderbolt ports are functional since I am able to connect my display using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Could I have corrupted the Network Preference File or is could the Thunderbolt to Ethernet Adapter damaged?
    Please help.

I had this problem, too, and an Apple Support call and Genius Bar visit later, I had the answer: if you're using Network Locations that preexist your Thunderbolt display, it doesn't seem to auto-add the possibility of "Display Ethernet" to your available network ports. To solve this, either:
Create a new Location in your Network system preferences. It will finally detect the "Display Ethernet" and use it. It'll slowly change from disconnected to No IP to green-is-for-go.
    or
Fix an existing Location by clicking the + to add a port and choosing Display Ethernet. It'll slowly change from disconnected to No IP to green-is-for-go.

  • Photosmart d110a printer not found

photosmart d110a on a mac with os lion via wireless connection
The printer had been working fine until today. We updated to LION in December but printed fine until today...
I went to support for help. So I went and downloaded latest software and drivers on computer and even used a USB cable so I could check for firmware updates on the printer itself; it said it had latest updates already.
So I go to the HP Installer download (from what was downloaded from updates) and commence to update and configure the printer. My mac can't find the printer still so I use a USB cable to connect them (following directions as I am prompted). Message says 'software is successfully installed. You are now ready to set up your device and software.' I disconnect USB cable.
I click continue and my device is not listed. I even go back to HP site and follow instructions on how to enter the IP manually and still it will not connect.
So I plug the USB back in to mac and it shows my device. I click configure...says it is compatible with wireless networks and I check off box that says "configure your device for a wireless netwk".
Next window says 'application has detected your device is currently connected to the following wireless netwk..." I confirm the wireless settings as correct and say to keep the settings and click continue.
Next window says 'HP device is now configured correctly' and the IP address listed matches the one on my wireless netwk test print pages that I ran and printed earlier. (I turned off printer twice and reran the wireless netwk test and it prints out 'congratulations on successful setup of your wireless printer', shows 'excellent' signal quality and the same info each time...same IP address, etc) **Bottom of this window says "IMPORTANT: please disconnect the USB cable connected to your device now." So I do and click continue.
POP UP says 'device not found on netwk'...'wireless netwk settings were successfully downloaded to your device. However, your Mac was unable to locate the device on the netwk. Please make sure that : Mac is connected to device wired or wireless, device is connected to wireless netwk....'
Not sure if this is worth noting but while the printer is connected via USB, it will print.
Please help! I am sooo confused!!!

    Hi MiltonLafer,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand you cannot install your HP Photosmart D110a with Windows 7. I am happy to help you! I have a couple of questions for you:
How is your printer connected? Wireless or USB?
Are you using the CD for the install or the online download?
If you are using the CD, I would recommend to try the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows instead, to see if that works.
Hope this helps you, and have a great day!

  • HP 2200 dtn printer not found by one Mac on network

My local network comprises a desktop Mac Pro connected through an ethernet hub to a Time Capsule, and four Macbook Pros connected to the network by Airport wireless.  All Macs are running OS 10.8.5.  A HP 2200 dtn printer is connected to the network through the ethernet hub. This network has been very reliable. After replacing a faulty JetDirect card on the printer and deleting the printer on all machines, all the Macbooks readily detected the printer and automatically reinstalled it and there is no problem with printing. The Mac Pro is connected to the network by ethernet, but it cannot detect the printer and it does not appear as an option for installation. I have tried installing the printer by entering its static IP address, selecting JetDirect, and selecting the HP 2200 driver from the software list (or the generic PS driver). But in both cases I get a message "unable to verify printer on your network...unable to connect due to an error."
Any suggestions on what to try next?

    Hi Good Ole Boy,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with the one Mac Pro and your HP LaserJet 2200 printer.
Your HP Printer is a commercial product.  I have included a link to HP Product Support Page for your printer. There is a section that discusses your printer and Mac OS X 10.8.
If the information you are looking for is not there, for more exposure I would suggest posting on the HP Commercial Products forum that can be found at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/

  • Mx870 printer not recognized by macbook pro

The network name/password at my office changed recently and I have been unable to print or scan wirelessly to my MX870 since, even after setting up both my computer and my 3-in-1 on the new network. In addition, after deleting the printer in the Printer & Scanner System Preferences, I was unable to add it back in as a printer. It only shows up as a scanner. My computer is a MacBook Pro OS 10.9.5.

When I plug in the iPhone, I get the following in the console.log:
    Jul 23 10:59:19 Crainte kernel[0]: USBF: 3331.256 AppleUSBEHCI[0x3839000]::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 253, timing out!

Perhaps the camera device is timing out somehow...
I'm going to drive out to an Apple store to see if they can download the photos for me... and then maybe try a restore...

  • Windows Server and Internet Printing - Printer Not Found

Having looked at every thread I can find on the subject of IPP, I have finally come to post my first cry for help.
    My system is:
      Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
I have the following roles and services installed.
      Print and Document Services
         Print Server
         LPD Service
         Internet Printing
      Web Server (IIS)
Web Server Services, most all but Custom logging and ODBC logging
         Management Tools, all
    If I visit http://<myip>/printers , I get a list of my printers.
Clicking on one of them I get the status page for that printer with option to connect.
Clicking connect I get "Printer Installation Failed  --  The printer name is invalid."  I have searched for an answer to this problem for three days and nobody seems to have the exact same problem as me.
Now, when I look at the detailed error page here:
    http://localhost/printers/SAVIN2NDFLOOR/.printer
    I get a 404 error.
    Requested URL:  http://localhost:80/printers/SAVIN2NDFLOOR/.printer
    Physical Path:  C:\Windows\web\printers\SAVIN2NDFLOOR\.printer
That physical path does not actually exist.  C:\Windows\web\printers\ is all there but there are no printer folders in this directory.  Are there supposed to be?  What am I missing?
All help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the post.
As we know, when the user connects to any of the printers on the Internet printing Web page, the client (running, for example, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008) first tries to find a driver for the printer locally. If an appropriate driver cannot be
found, the print server generates a cabinet file (.cab file, also known as a setup file) that contains the appropriate printer driver files. The print server downloads the .cab file to the client computer. The user on the client computer is prompted for permission
    to download the .cab file.
In this case, I would liket to confirm if a custom website is set up for Internet Printing. If so, a custom website will need to have the Printers virtual directory copied to it with the Application Mappings.
Please also check if the "Anonymous Authentication" and "Basic Authentication" is enabled in IIS Manager.
    Hope this helps.

  • Airport express not found (by macbook) after moving to the US

    Hi,
I unplugged my perfectly working AX (v6.3) in Europe, moved to the States and now have connection problems (same Macbook Pro, same AX). ISP here is Comcast.
Symptoms: The airoprt utility (AU) doesn't see the AX (whether cable modem is plugged or unplugged to AX). Reset or factory-reset of AX doesn't solve the problem. If I restart AX and then also the computer the AU sees the AX, but can't connect (connection timeout). After this first trial to connect the Macbook will not see the AX any more until I reboot the Macbook.
I can connect the AX via ethernet and configure it using AU. I did not set a password (for test reasons), connection mode is 802.11b/g compatible, channel auto, security none.
Also did a restart of the cable modem (unplugged for 10 min) like described elsewhere in the forum. No help. Anyway, if I am correct the AU should see the AX even without the modem connected to it, right? If I plug the modem to the AX and restart the modem, the LED on the AX will go green. Still it is not detected by the Macbook.
    Any ideas highly appreciated. Thanks!!!

As Duane mentions, 5 GHz signals do not travel or penetrate well because the higher frequency signals in this band are absorbed by any obstructions much more quickly than 2.4 GHz signals.
Although not exactly true, unless you have close to line-of-sight between your computer and the AirPort Express, you will probably have much better results using the 2.4 GHz signals which penetrate more effectively and work greater at longer distances.

Connected my Epson C66 to the airport extreme; ran the bonjour software to recognize the printer, worked fine for a while, my Macbook prints to the Epson fine, but my PC will not recognize the printer at all anymore. Any advise on this?
    Mike

What id try first is make sure the Airport Extreme sees the Printer; however if the Mac sees the printer and is able to print to it on the fly then we know the airport sees it. So from what i can see the PC was able to print to the printer for awhile now doesnt. Was this printer ever connected to the PC directly at one time? If not when the printer was added on the PC had you installed the software for the printer?
