Exchange 2013, do I need cas array configuration?
Hello,
I have a setup of 2 mailbox servers and 2 cas servers (cas1.demo.local, cas2.demo.local).
Created dns-round-robin for the two cas servers.
Created host A record for cas.demo.local
Setup internal url's to point cas.demo.local
I'm planing to test loadbalancer for the cas-services.
Do I need to setup CAS-Array?
Im getting error from the "New-ClientAccessArray" cmdlet

As I understood it, the individual servers still use their individual names ... you still need to configure exchange to use only one name ... the difference is that it is a lot simpler now. with exchange 2010 you had to use
new-clientaccessarray -name -fqdn -siteand afterwards you had to configure the mailboxdatabases to use the array with
set-mailboxdatabase database -rpclientaccessserver name of the array
then with the advent of exchange 2013 u just use
get-outlookanywhere |set-outlookanywherer -internalname -externalname
it is the -internalname with set-outlookanywhere that is new. In exchange 2010 you only could configure the externalname with set-outlook-anywhere and therefore you had to use new-clienteaccessarray and set-mailboxdatabase

I have one users Outlook settings that is showing the name of the Exchange CAS server instead of the CAS Array Name. Other users seem to be fine. I have tried recreating profile and doing an automatic and manual install. Can
X500 or X400 addresses have anything to do with it?Hi monolithickernal,
As brenle said, could you please tell us what version of Exchange you are using?
And you could use following command to check the database configuration parameters.
Get-MailboxDatabase | Select Name,RpcClientAccessServer

Migration Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 with CAS Array and DAG
Dear All,
I am starting the migration of Exchange 2010 2 servers (CAS/Mailbox) with DAG no CAS Array to Exchange 2013 with 2 servers CAS array and 2 Mailbox servers with DAG. I read on some blogs that no requirement of CAS array on Exchange 2013. My concern how to
configure NLB on CAS servers for the client to connect.
Please guide and have any deployment guide for this, kindly share.
ThanksHi ,
As you said there is no use and meaning of having the cas array in exchange 2013 and also thanks a lot to Microsoft for introducing an single namespace facility in exchange 2013.
My suggestion and Microsoft recommendation should be to go with hardware load balancers for exchange 2013 rather than using the windows NLB and round robin method.
Why we need to go for HLB ?
Disadvantages
of some load balancing methods :
Windows
NLB :-
If you use Windows NLB then it can provide redundancy on server level failure and not on application level.
DNS
round robin :-
In case if we use the windows round robin method for load balancing then it wouldn't provide server level
and application level redundancy during the failures. At the Same time we need to manually adjust the DNS records during the server failure but on the client end dns caches will create the issues.
Configuring NLB for exchange 2013 :
http://msexchangeguru.com/2013/08/14/windowsnlb/
NLB configurations for exchange 2010 and 2013 will be same.
Configuring round robin for exchange 2013 :
http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2013-client-access-server-high-availability/
Advisable method is to have the CAS and MBX roles on the same box if NLB not comes it to play.Because windows failover clustering and NLB cannot be configured on the same box.In exchange 2013 cas role is a stateless server role so there is no need to have
that role on a separate box.

Hello Folks,
I have this problem and is making me crazy if anyone have any idea please shed some light on this:-
1. Working Outlook 2010 and 2013 clients with webmail.xyz.com as Outlook Anywhere proxy address.
2. Installed new Exchange 2013 server (server02)with CAS and Mailbox role, Exchange install wizard finished and server is rebooted.
3. Server came up online started changing internal and external FQDN's of Virtual Directories and Outlook Anywhere to webmail.xyz.com
4. As soon as Fqdn's changed some outlook clients create support request that Outlook suddenly white's out and after reopening it is giving error cannot connect to exchange. upon checking Clients Exchange Proxy address is set to http://server02.xyz.com,
even though OA/OWA/ECP/OAB/EWS/Autodiscover/ActiveSync FQDN's Point to webmail.xyz.com, on all servers if i create new outlook profile for same user it picks up correct settings through autodiscover and connects fine, this is happening to about 20% of outlook
clients every time i am introducing new Exchange 2013 server in Organization. we have around 2000 users and planning on installing 4 exchange servers to distribute load and everytime changing outlook profile of close to 150-200 users is not possible.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
CoolHere are the EXCRA results
Here IP (x.x.x.x) returned is my Load Balancer IP (Webmail.xyz.com).

Configuring CA Certificate for Exchange 2013
Hello,
I have two exchange 2013 server running both CAS and MB roles which are also part of a DAG. To secure mail flow in and out of my organization, I am planning to implement reverse proxy in my DMZ. I can easily access my OWA using my DAG name. I wonder if I
can configure my reverse proxy machine to access the cluster name/ip. I am also confused about configuring the certificate. Which one of my machines should be used to create the CSR?
Pooriya AghaalitariHey David,
I just got to learn about this after I sent the post. So I can create the certificate and import/export to other servers right? Thanks a lot man.
Regards,
Pooriya
Pooriya Aghaalitari
Yes. In fact, you want to make sure all the certs applied to the CAS are the same ( same thumbprint)

Configure legacy public folders where user mailboxes are on Exchange 2013 servers
Hello all,
I have mailboxes on an exchange 2013 server than need access to public folders on a 2010 server before I migrate them over. I followed the commands in the TechNet article with the subject "Configure legacy public folders where user mailboxes
are on Exchange 2013 servers" (sorry, I wasn't allowed to insert a link because I wasn't verified?). The problem is when I run the last command of "Set-OrganizationConfig -PublicFoldersEnabled Remote -RemotePublicFolderMailboxes ProxyMailbox1,ProxyMailbox2,ProxyMailbox3"
on the 2013 server, using the mailbox name I had created, it says it cannot be found. Of course I checked and the mailbox exists, is configured properly, and so is the new database. The 2013 EAC also sees the mailbox with no issues.
Can someone tell me why I am getting this error?
Thanks,
ShaibalHi Mavis,
Thank you for your response. I am the full domain admin, and check and was part of both groups mentioned above. Also, I have only one 2010 server with public folder, and so the command I am running on the 2013 looks like this: Set-OrganizationConfig
-PublicFoldersEnabled Remote -RemotePublicFolderMailboxes PFMailbox1. I even just created a second user and mailbox using the console instead of the shell, and still no luck.
Below is the error I get:
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Set-OrganizationConfig -PublicFoldersEnabled Remote -RemotePublicFolderMailboxes PFMailbox2
Couldn't find object "PFMailbox2". Please make sure that it was spelled correctly or specify a different object.

Exchange 2013 SP 1 + Lync 2013 CAS servers 100% CPU Load.
Hello. Can somebody explain about one issue?
We have Exchange 2013 CU6 + Lync 2013 (5.0.8308.556) integration. After install Exchange SP1 all Client Access Servers begun to consume all CPU time. In process
explorer there are w3wp.exe (MSExchangeServicesAppPool) and lsass.exe (netlogon context). In IIS logs a lot of events about

IIS logs are grow up very quickly, about 1GB per day. Before to installing SP1 was not problems. Thanks in advance.Hi,
From your description, you said that you have Exchange 2013 CU6 + Lync 2013 (5.0.8308.556) integration, then you install Exchange 2013 SP1 on all CAS servers.
Do you mean your Exchange 2013 Mailbox server is CU6, and all CAS servers are SP1?
We had better have the same version on Exchange servers in our environment, if that is the case, please upgrate all to CU6, Exchange 2013 latest version, to check result.
Best regards,
Belinda Ma
TechNet Community Support -
Hello all,
I am a sysadmin at a 3 campus school, and am trying to extend our AD schema to include Exchange 2013 attributes so that we can configure groups synced to Office 365 using DirSync. However it keeps failing at the same point each time.
I have tried with RTM first, and then CU6, but I keep getting the same error and am unsure how to fix it.
"repadmin /showrepl" says that our 3 DCs are replicating with no issues, and I'm trying to extend the schema using an "Enterprise Admin"/"Schema Admin" account on our schema master DC.
Our domain/forest functional level is Server 2008R2, and we do not have an Exchange server set up already - if that helps.
The PowerShell error is:
PS C:\Users\rbbr\Desktop\Exchange> .\setup /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 6 Unattended Setup

File copy complete. Setup will now collect additional information needed for installation.

The schema attribute "CN=ms-DS-GeoCoordinates-Altitude,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=kurnai,DC=lan" does exist in the schema, but I don't know what to do or where to go from here.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.I just tried .\setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:kurnaicollege /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms, and got the exact same error as above.
Is there a way to delete the offending schema attributes, or to force its overwrite or something?
EDIT: I am also getting these eventvwr errors when running /PrepareAD, if it helps:

Exchange 2013 Mail Receiving Issues
Hi everybody,
Yesterday I configured a new DC and Exchange on Hyper-V (Server 2012 and Exchange 2013)
All functions and rolls are configured and installed but i am having issues receiving external e-mails.
Almost all of the external mails are being deliverd a half hour to a hour after being sent.
To start of on the first level.
I got a Siemens Fiber modem with an external address connected to the WAN of my Draytek 2995 router.
Alle the needed ports are forwarded to the Draytek (80,443,25,1723).
The Draytek DHCP function is set to off.
192.168.168.2 (DC) -> 80 (HTTP IIS)
192.168.168.2 (DC) -> 1723 (RRAS)
192.168.168.3 (Exchange) -> 25 (SMTP)
192.168.168.3 (Exchange) -> 443 (SSL)
My Draytek router is connected through LAN1 to a HP switch (unmanaged).
The physical server has 3 NIC's, all of these are connected to the HP Switch
I Disabled Hyper-V Queuing on the NIC's because this causes an issue with slow network connections.
The network has been configured as following.
I configured the Server 2012 R2 on the hardware(physical server) with only the Hyper-V roll.
NIC1is setup for the physical server,
IP Address: 192.168.168.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.168.254 (Draytek address)
DNS: 192.168.168.254 (Draytek address)
The Server software firewall has been set to a private network through the local security policy.
I have setup 2 VM's through the Hyper-V roll.
The first VM is the Server 2012 R2 Domain controller.
For this VM I created a virtual switch connected to my second NIC(2).
I unchecked the box where my host can communicate with the NIC(2).
The DC has been configured as following:
Hostname: SERVER
IP Address: 192.168.168.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.168.254
DNS: 127.0.0.1
I can ping to all the adresses from this server (internal and external).
The server has been promoted to domain controller with the following rolls.
ActiveDirectory, Certificate Autohority, DHCP, DNS, RRAS, RDP.
Alle these rolls have been set and working. (all have been tested)
DHCP has all options configured (scope, router-192.168.168.254, dns-192.168.168.2)
A DNS simple and recursive test work fine.
I did no configuration on the DNS after the DC PROMO.
So i created users in the AD.
After that I created a second VM, this one is used for the Exchange.
I setup a second virtual switch connected to NIC3 and installed Server 2012 R2 with the following config.
Hostname: SERVER
IP Address: 192.168.168.3
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.168.254
DNS: 192.168.168.2 (pointing to the DC)
I joined this server to the domain, everything is working fine.
Both servers have internet and network.
Running portscans on 1723 and 80 all work like a charm.
No its time to install Exchange.
I ran all the prerequisits and PowerShell commands (IAcceptLicense. etc.)
Installed de needed API and filters.
Installed Frameworks 3.5 on both servers.
And the Exchange installation was succesfull.
CU3 is also installed.
I configured the send connector, accepted domains etc.
Created all needed certificates (self signed)
Did a portscan on 433 and 25 and they work.
All the hosting records are set mail.domain.nl etc. and MX records.
I created inboxes for the users and was able to connect them to the users in the Active Directory on the DC without any problems.
Connecting through the internet to OWA works perfect and i can login with users.
Sending e-mail internally works perfect, the messages are being deliverd in an instant.
Sending e-mail externally also works perfect, i receive mails in a few seconds on a person email address.
But when i reply or send e-mail to my new Exchange it can take up to hours to receive the mails!
I did online SMTP checks and e-mail checks, the all come out like it should.
One message from MX TOOLBOX on the SMTP:
SMTP Transaction Time
8.408 seconds - Not good! on Transaction Time
I have nog other receive connectors setup, just the standard connectors.
So i got into the Exchange ECP and under "server" i setup the DNS to listen to 192.168.168.2 (DC).
I've read that when this is set to all ip addresses it can cause mail delay, but no luck.
I ran the best practices analyzer and get about 23 errors and 20 warnings.
A lot of services are unhealt like the "ExchangeTransport).
I have no idea what is causing the issues and read almost every forum.
Does anyone have a clue what is going on?
Did i miss something, is there a misconfiguration?
Best regards,
TimThe mailserver did not receive any e-mails in this timespan, it was not an issue with the connector to the user mailboxes.
The internal e-mail also works flawless.
The entire Exchange server just not received this mail in time.
I sent an e-mail from my personal accout with the option in my outlook to receive a delivery-reply.
I got the reply as soon as the mail was deliverd, this took about a half hour to a hour.
After you asked me about the firewall, i got a hunch..
It had to be on the incomming connection, so i checked every single firewall on the network and disabled them.
Still the same problem...
But there was still one ethernet device that could have a firewall, the internet modem!
This ATM modem receives multiple external IP's from the ISP, so I figured there was no firewall on this device. (Just like all the cable modems that are deliverd in our area by Ziggo(ISP).
But I was wrong, there was a firewall enabled on the modem!
All the ports in the modem had been forwarded but somehow the modem-firewall filtered the traffic,
creating the issue on the incomming e-mail.
I disabled the firewall and all the external e-mails are being received in an instant!
Re-enabled all the software firewalls on the servers and re-enabled the malware filter through powershell, after these steps I did another test, and everything still works like a charm!
Many thanks for your help Kjartan! -
Exchange 2013 deployment design recommendations?
We are planning on upgrading from Exchange 2010 to 2013.
Currently, we have 2 Exchange servers. One server with mailbox and hub transport in our local office with users. The CAS is in a remote data center. So, whenever either server is down or being restarted, all mail stops.
We have received licenses for three Exchange 2013 servers. What is the best way to set these up so there is high availability whenever any one of the three servers is offline. Also, since we will still have the licenses for our existing two Exchange
2010 servers, will there be any benefit in keeping those in this scenario?
I have attached a diagram of our current layout and we want to revamp it.Hi
The current setup of your environment is not Microsoft recommended solution as there is no HA set up for mailbox hub as well as CAS
My recommendation for exchange 2013
You can have CAS servers deployed one in each datacenter
Below thing can be thought for DAG Config
In order to increase the service level which is to have one site alive when the other site is down, its
better to Move the file share witness server to a server that does not belong to neither site but it needs to have reliable network communications between both sites.
So if any of two sites fails, the DAG will have a quorum and it can remain operational. The databases will
not be dismounted and service and data access will not be disrupted.
If in case if you don't have 3 sites you can follow below( again this is not best recommended HA )
Put the FSW in the primary Data Center and set the DAG to DAC mode so you can easily do a data center
switchover in case the primary fails.

Exchange 2013 SP1 - Edge Tranport Role
Hi.
When Exchange 2013 was released only CAS & Mailbox roles where available. Hub & Edge Transport server roles were discontinued.
Now with Exchange 2013 SP1, the edge transport role has came back.
Question:
1. Can I deploy a new Exchange 2013 Infrastructure without the Edge Transport Role. This will be a fresh deployment.
I plan to have a UTM with spam blocking at the perimeter instead of the Edge Server?
2. will there any be problems without an Edge Transport ?
Thanks,
PaulHi ,
Please find the below mentioned points .
1. Can I deploy a new Exchange 2013 Infrastructure without the Edge Transport Role. This will be a fresh deployment.
I plan to have a UTM with spam blocking at the perimeter instead of the Edge Server?
Answer :
Just ensure that the product is having all the features as you need on your side .There is not necessary to have a an edge server in all the exchange environment's. Moreover Gateway and anti spam products will differ as per the company requirements.
2. will there any be problems without an Edge Transport ?
Answer :
If you are having any one the anti spamming solution to have all the emails scanned before it reaches the exchange server then it will be good .
Just ensure that the anti spamming product what you are going to use is mainly doing the reverse dns lookup
and spf look up .With the help of that we can able to avoid large no of forged emails.

Exchange 2013 Shared Mailbox Get-MailboxSentItemsConfiguration SP1 Help
Hello
My Setup
Server1: Server 2012 Standard + Exchange 2013 CU2 Standard (MBX+CAS)
Server2: Server 2012 Standard + Exchange 2013 CU2 Standard (MBX+CAS)
DAG Enable
I am having problems with Shared mailboxes, when sending E-mail from the Shared mailbox the sent E-mail will show up in the recipients Sent Items insted of the Shared mailbox sent Items.
I know that in Exchange 2010 Later SP and RU there where a PowerShell command that could send a copy to the Shared mailbox Sent Items (Get-MailboxSentItemsConfiguration)
but it doesn't seem to be there anymore, does anyone know if the cmdlet is back in CU3 or SP1? will it come back?
there is a workaround (Registry) but it doesn't help us, not for our environment.
Can I set this up by Outlook rules or maybe some kind of forwarding?
If you have any experience with this, feel free to give some advice.
Thank You very much!Hi,
*.MailboxSentItemsConfiguration has not been brought back in CU3 or CU4/SP1 and I don't know if it ever will be.
If DelegateSentItemsStyle configured in the registry is not an option for you, then using multiple Exchange accounts in the same Outlook Profile might be. The support for that was added in Outlook 2010 and personally, I like that option a lot.

Exchange 2013 Public Folders external issues
Hello,
I am having some issues with gaining access to my public folders externally.
OS: Windows Server 2012 Datacenter
Exchange: 2013 with SP1
Domain: i.client.local
External & internal hostname: ex01.client.dk
I have tried from Windows 7 with Outlook 2010, and Windows 8 with Outlook 2013. (I have also tried to apply patch from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2839517)
If I try to access public folders, I get this error:
Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange.
If I try to access public folders with cache enabled, I get this error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2788136
I have tried deleting all public folders, public folder databases, and the related mailbox database. And creating all again, however
with same result.

</Autodiscover>I can't access the public folders at all. Trying to access the public folders, result in the error from the following page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2788136,
or "Cannot expand the folder..."
It is affecting all users using this Exchange-server. I am actually having this error on two different Exchange-serverens at two different companies at the moment.
And it is a fresh Exchange 2013 environment in both cases.
PS: I discovered that the public folders works inside the same domain as the Exchange-server, however users can't access the public folders externally.
I also tried to use the Exchange-server as DNS, in order to be able to resolve i.client.local:
<PublicFolderInformation>
<SmtpAddress>[email protected]</SmtpAddress>
</PublicFolderInformation>
however I am still unable to open the public folders, even after being able to resolve the DNS name i.client.local. -
Coexistence & Upgrade Exchange 2010 SP3 Unified Messaging to Exchange 2013 SP1 UM
Hello Experts,
We're doing Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 upgrade.
This upgrade also include Unified Messaging component which is currently working with Exchange 2010 SP3 and Lync 2013.
We have one dial plan and its SIP URI and Secured.
Looking for high level steps to plan coexistence and upgrade of Unified Messaging from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 integrated with Lync 2013. I'll also appreciate tips on what kind of certificate and its Subject name(s).
Microsoft documentation is not very clear and I found it confusing for my scenario. Since I we don't want any downtime for UM users, looking for some help.
Thanks in advance for help.
-DKHello Hinte,
Thanks for the information. I have been to this article which explains fresh deployment but doesn't address coexistence and migration scenario.
I'm looking for high level steps only. Can anyone validate and suggest if I'm missing something!
1) Install new CAS+MBX Server
2) Move system mailbox as per MS documentation to Exchange 2013 MBX
3) On CAS+MBX Server Enabled internal CA trusted Cert for UM Services.Internal
CA certs contain only CAS+MBX server's FQDN only.UM services Startup Mode is set to "Dual".
4) Assigned existing SIP URI Based Exchange 2010 Dial plan to New Exchange 2013 Servers.
5) Run Exchucutil.ps1
in Exchange 2013 and OcsUMUtil in Lync 2013 (Again?)
Will this be enough or Do I need to create New Auto attendant or
Haunt Group etc?
Thanks for all the help! -
Exchange 2013 EAC coexistence with Exchange 2007
Dear All,
I have an exchange organization comprized of single Exchange 2007 SP3 UR 15 running on Win2008 SP2 and two recently installed Exchange 2013 SP1 CU7 with CAS and Mailbox role running on Win 2012 R2.
Imidiantly after Exchange 2013 install, I am not able to login to Exchange 2013 EAC. When I enter my credentials domain\username, the EAC page simpli dose a quick refresh and I am back where I started.
I have tryid mutiple UTLs to access EAC page, such as:
https://localhost/ecp?ExchClientVer=15
https://localhost/ecp?ExchClientVer=14
https://localhost/ecp
Each of them show the same result, a page gets refreshet. I have tryid to move my Exchange Organization user mailbox to Exchange 2013 to see if that helps but the result.
I also noticed that OWA dosent work for mailboxes that are on Exchange 2013, they are redirected to Exchange 2007 even thou they are on Exchange 2013.
Any idea on this one?
Thank you
b.Hi,
From your description, I would like to verify if you have configured Exchange 2013 namespace and virtual directories (such as OWA, ECP, OAB, Web Services, AutoDiscover)correctly. Please make sure these virtual directories are configured correctly and check
the result.
For more information about Exchange 2007 migration to Exchange 2013, here is a helpful blog for your reference.
