Export InDesign doc to .fla

I Export an InDesign CC document to an .fla-file.
But when I open the fla into Flash Professional CC I don't see anything.
I see that InDesign CC exports the file to an C6 fla.
Could this be the problem?

There's no way you can export directly to CC fla.
I don't have any problem opening exported .FLAs in CC.
But when I open the fla into Flash Professional CC I don't see anything.
InDesign pages get exported as movie clips and are put on the main timeline sequentially. Exported FLA's have no code and you would need to add ActionScript code to the timeline or document.as file in order to make the pages do anything. So if your first page was blank the first key frame will be blank:

  • Export Indesign CS5 to .fla CS4

    Hi,
    I have CS4 Web Premium version and CS5 InDesign (both for PC).
    Is it possible to export down from InDesign to CS4 flash file? In the pulldown menu, I only have the CS5 .fla option (and obviously when I try to open it in Flash, it doesn't recognize it since it's a newer version than my Flash program).
    I'm wanting to export my catalogs into Flash to see the possibilities there. I currently exporting them and using them as PDFs, which may or may not be the best option, but I want to see what other options there are.
    Thanks!
    Anne

    I believe that InDesign CS5 will only export a FLA file that can be read in Flash Professional CS5.
    If you knew someone who had InDesign CS4, you could create an IDML file which they could open in InDesign CS4. Then they could export an XFL file which could be opened in Flash CS4 Professional. (InDesign CS4 used an intermediate XML version called XFL; InDesign CS5 can actually export FLA.)

  • Exporting InDesign doc to SWF

    When I try to export a 6-page IDCS4 document into swf format, only the first page of the document is exported. What might I be doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Charlotte

    Are you sure there´s only one page.... in swf, pages are stacked, so you see only one page/spread at the time...
    If you checked "Interactive Page Curl" in Export-window, you can turn your first page by bringing you cursor to top or bottom-right corner. You should see a "corner-tease" where next page is peeking from corner. When you clic or drag from corner, you can turn on second spread...

  • Can you include hyperlinks in an indesign doc. exported to HTML?

    Trying to send an email newsletter that has images/hyperlinks and maintains its format.
    When you export an indesign doc. into html code will the hyperlinks still work?
    If so, what do I have to do to make sure that the links and images work after sending it in email body.
    Thanks very much - any help is warranted

    Hi, I was just wondering if you got the problem resolved. I'm asking because we are experiencing kind of the same issue in our office. Our Marketing Manager is using Adobe InDesign and exports her documents to PDF. These PDFs won't print in any of our printers in the office. It spools and then gets stuck and it actually makes our HP Coloured Laser Printer throw an error (error 79) and we'll have to restart the printer due to this error. We can print other documents and other PDFs in the printer so we know it's not a printer driver issue. In fact, we have isolated the problem to only PDFs exported from InDesign. Even if we create a blank document from InDesign and export it to PDF it still won't print. Really odd. We would appreciate if you could share your solution if you were able to fix the issue. Thanks!!

  • InDesign doc exported to PDF won't print

    I'm experiencing issues with an exported PDF from InDesign. More specifically, when I export the InDesign doc to a PDF and try to print, I don't have any issues, nor does anyone else in my office, however some of the people that I'm sending the document to are experiencing trouble printing it. They get to 44% flattened and then the printing process slows down, and then once it reaches 50% they get a pop-up window saying that the document can't print and the whole thing stops. They can print the first page by just selecting that page, however the second page cannot be printed this way. I have re-exported the PDF several times and these folks having the issues have cleared their browser cache, re-downloaded the document, saved it to their desktop before opening, and tried renaming the document as well.
    What's going on here, and what can I do or tell them to do to fix this?
    Also, updating their Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat does not solve the problem.

  • "Cannot recover" Error when opening InDesign doc

    We are a Server 2008 w/ XP/SP3 client environment. I have a user that opens an InDesign doc located on a shared network drive, does some work on it, and closes it. When the next person opens it, they get this error: "Cannot recover <<filename>>.indd. Please try to open it using the File menu. The file <<filename>>.indd has been changed since Adobe InDesign last quit (Error code: 11). They can click "OK" to this. The next window that pops up has an error: This document contains links to missing or modified files. Click Fix Links Automatically to have InDesign update this document with the modified files and help you locate missing files..." there's more about using the links panel, etc. They click "don't fix" and the document opens. To the best of my knowledge it is happening on just one file.
    I'm pretty sure the second error is because we recently took a server off-line that some of the links had been pointing to; I've informed my users they need to update the links in the files. It's the first error I'm wondering about. The first user I mention at the beginning has been having *tons* of trouble with InDesign the last week or so. It locks up, freezes panes, and needs to be ended through task manager. It's been unbearable for both her and myself trying to figure out what's wrong. My hurdle is that I don't use the software at all but I'm in IT support so so I'm in charge of troubleshooting but not sure where to begin.
    Can someone please help with the error we are receiving and also, provide some suggestions on how I can troubleshoot the performance issues?
    Her system specs:
    XP2002/SP3
    3GB RAM
    P4 2.8GHz proc.
    Not sure on the graphics card but can retrieve it will be helpful. User does use dual monitors.
    TIA!

    Reinstalling won't necessarily fix the kinds of problems you are having since they may have nothing to do with the application itself. I woud uninstall first, whenever possible, and immediately run any updates. Changing the preferences would be more productive as a first step though. Prefs are not automatically replaced on a new installation, either -- it depends on what option you chose during the uninstall.
    For your questions:
    1) When a file is opened, ID write a file with the extension .idlk in the same directory. This file tells any instance of ID that the file is already open and in use and prevents multiple users form having simultaneous access. It may or may not be deleted (usually not) during a crash scenario.
    2) Generally speaking it is not possible for mere mortals to recover a corrupt ID file. Tommy Donovan at Adobe is collecting them for study, but makes no promise of recovery. The folks at Markzware say they have some luck using their ID2Q plugin for Quark Xpress to open and save as a Quark file, then going back the other way using Q2ID to convert back. They might do a on-off for a small fee.
    3) Go to the link in the previous response, and scroll down to the part about repalcing preferences. Editing the prefs in the edit menu is not the same as replcing them with a new set. The files that need to be replaced are InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData.
    4) If there is something wrong on User 1's system that is corrupting the file, it would show up when User 2 opens it. Export the file to Interchange format (.inx), then open that file and save as a new .indd file. That can often clean up minor problems (i.e. those not serious enough to keep the file from opening at all).

  • [JS] Exporting InDesign group as eps

    Although all types of page items have an exportFile method in the object model, it does not seem to be possible to export a group of page items on a given page without exporting the entire
    parent page using the exportFile method. Maybe this is a matter of implementation lagging behind documentation? In any case, I have used workarounds such as the following, but is there is a less clunky way to accomplish this task?
    //Initial selection is either a group of page items or a single page item.
    var d = app.documents[0];
    var hUnits = d.viewPreferences.horizontalMeasurementUnits;
    var vUnits = d.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits;
    aGroup = app.selection[0];
    path = app.documents[0].fullName.absoluteURI;
    path = path.substring( 0, path.lastIndexOf('/') );
    bnds = aGroup.geometricBounds;
    var nd = app.documents.add(false);
    with ( nd.masterSpreads[0].pages[0].marginPreferences ) {
      top = bottom = left = right = 0;
    with ( nd.viewPreferences ) {
      horizontalMeasurementUnits = hUnits;
      verticalMeasurementUnits = vUnits;
    with ( nd.documentPreferences ) {
      pageHeight = bnds[2] - bnds[0];
      pageWidth = bnds[3] - bnds[1];
    var copiedGroup = aGroup.duplicate( nd.layers[0] );
    copiedGroup.move( [0,0] );
    copiedGroup.exportFile( ExportFormat.EPS_TYPE, File( path + '/' + 'TEST.eps' ), false );
    nd.close(SaveOptions.NO);

    Hello Uwe,
    Thanks for the advice! I took your suggestion, and I find it worked nicely, after I adjusted pasteboardMargin preferences in the new document, but it does fail when there are multiple eps images already placed on the target page for reasons that are not clear to me. Below are the two different methods I came up with, the first copies the targeted group to a new doc, and the second uses your double eps export method. The problem I describe occurs even when I comment out the lines that remove the temporary eps file and close the temporary InDesign doc after exporting the final eps, which I thought might be causing the problem. Maybe there's not a perfect workaround, but I'd be pleased to be proven wrong in that regard!
    Copy group selected for eps export to new document method:
    var d, hUnits, vUnits, aGroup, path, bnds, nd, copiedGroup, fileName, docPreset;
    if ( app.documents.count() != 1 || app.documents[0].saved != true || app.documents[0].selection.length != 1 ) { alert("A single, saved document must be open with a single item selected!\r"); exit(); }
    aGroup = app.selection[0];
    d = app.documents[0];
    hUnits = d.viewPreferences.horizontalMeasurementUnits;
    vUnits = d.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits;
    path = app.documents[0].fullName.absoluteURI;
    path = path.substring( 0, path.lastIndexOf('/') );
    bnds = aGroup.visibleBounds;
    fileName = prompt( "Enter a file name with a '.eps' extension for the eps file to be created from the  current selection:", ".eps" );
    if ( fileName == null  ) exit();
    if ( fileName.toLowerCase().search(/\.eps$/) < 1 ) {
      alert( "Invalid file name provided. Script will terminate!" ); exit();
    docPreset = app.documentPresets.add({top:0, bottom:0, left:0, right:0});
    app.scriptPreferences.enableRedraw = false;
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.NEVER_INTERACT;
    nd = app.documents.add(true, docPreset );
    with ( nd.viewPreferences ) {
      horizontalMeasurementUnits = hUnits;
      verticalMeasurementUnits = vUnits;
    with ( nd.documentPreferences ) {
      pageHeight = bnds[2] - bnds[0];
      pageWidth = bnds[3] - bnds[1];
    copiedGroup = aGroup.duplicate( nd.layers[0] );
    copiedGroup.move( [0,0] );
    copiedGroup.exportFile( ExportFormat.EPS_TYPE, File( path + '/' + fileName ), false );
    nd.close(SaveOptions.NO);
    docPreset.remove();
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.INTERACT_WITH_ALL;
    app.scriptPreferences.enableRedraw = true;
    Double eps export method:
    var d, pg, hUnits, vUnits, aGroup, path, bnds, pgbnds, nd, fileName, tempFileName, docPreset;
    if ( app.documents.count() < 1 || app.documents[0].saved != true || app.documents[0].selection.length != 1 ) { alert("A saved document must be open with a single group or a single page item selected!\r"); exit(); }
    aGroup = app.selection[0];
    d = app.documents[0];
    pg = aGroup.parentPage;
    pgbnds = pg.bounds;
    hUnits = d.viewPreferences.horizontalMeasurementUnits;
    vUnits = d.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits;
    path = app.documents[0].fullName.absoluteURI;
    path = path.substring( 0, path.lastIndexOf('/') );
    bnds = aGroup.visibleBounds;
    fileName = prompt( "Enter a file name with a '.eps' extension for the eps file to be created from the  current selection:", ".eps" );
    if ( fileName == null  ) exit();
    if ( fileName.toLowerCase().search(/\.eps$/) < 1 ) {
      alert( "Invalid file name provided. Script will terminate!" ); exit();
    tempFileName = Math.random().toString() + '.eps';
    app.epsExportPreferences.pageRange = pg.name;
    d.exportFile( ExportFormat.EPS_TYPE, File( path + '/' + tempFileName ), false );
    app.epsExportPreferences.pageRange = PageRange.ALL_PAGES;
    docPreset = app.documentPresets.add({top:0, bottom:0, left:0, right:0});
    app.scriptPreferences.enableRedraw = false;
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.NEVER_INTERACT;
    nd = app.documents.add(true, docPreset );
    nd.pasteboardPreferences.pasteboardMargins = [ (pgbnds[3] - pgbnds[1])*2, (pgbnds[3] - pgbnds[1])*2 ];
    with ( nd.viewPreferences ) {
      horizontalMeasurementUnits = hUnits;
      verticalMeasurementUnits = vUnits;
    with ( nd.documentPreferences ) {
      pageHeight = bnds[2] - bnds[0];
      pageWidth = bnds[3] - bnds[1];
    nd.pages[0].place( File(  path + '/' + tempFileName ), [ pgbnds[1] - bnds[1], pgbnds[0] - bnds[0] ], undefined, false, false );
    nd.exportFile( ExportFormat.EPS_TYPE, File( path + '/' + fileName ), false );
    nd.close(SaveOptions.NO);
    File(  path + '/' + tempFileName ).remove();
    docPreset.remove();
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.INTERACT_WITH_ALL;
    app.scriptPreferences.enableRedraw = true;

  • Placing images from Bridge CC breaks Indesign Doc

    This seems to be intermittent but it's occuring only when I place images from Bridge to an InDesign document.
    I've experienced this bug before with InDesign but now it seems to happen more often when I drag an image from Bridge to an InDesign doc.
    After doing this I'm unable to Save the document or undo/redo anything. I know others have experienced this same bug. The only way I was able to fix the document was to close InDesign (and lose any unsaved changes) and then reopen the document. Then I create a new document and move all of the pages of my document to the new doc and resave it. This seems to stop the problem from happening.
    This is a serious bug: a) It's hard to pin down what causes it but it seems to be permission related to the document b) there is NO way to recover your unsaved changes, you can't copy your objects to a new document and save it as once the program breaks you can't save ANYTHING.
    Has anyone had success permanantly fixing this? Or run into it at all?

    Windows or MacOS?
    Because in Windows you can circumvent this by using the Explorer. I used to drag 'n drop images (ID CS6) and other files all the time - nothing like your problem so far.

  • InDesign docs won't print on Epson CX 6600

    Interesting problem. Computer is a "basketball" iMac 17" LCD G4 with OSX 10.3.9. Tried to print to an Epson CX6600 multifunction printer/scanner/copier, after the CX5200 died. Sending the 6600 any doc done in InDesign stalls to "Jobs Stopped" after spooling to the printer.
    The 6600 prints fine from most every other app on my computer (MSWord, Internet browsers, Appleworks, PDFs, etc.) It even prints fine from the other parts of the Adobe CS suite, such as Photoshop, but not InDesign or Illustrator. All my InDesign docs printed fine on the previous CX5200, which was plug & play from the moment we brought it home. The same InDesign docs also print fine on our workhorse B/W HP printers, but we need to print in color now. We have added nothing new in the way of fonts, etc. Plus we've run Printer Setup Repair and other fix programs to insure all permissions were OK. One place on the Adobe site says it is basically a known problem with Illustrator and In Design on this Epson and several other models, and all they offer for the "fix" is to "make sure you print from the Adobe pull down file menu". Does that come under "duh?" or am I seriously missing something? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks
    Also, Any suggestions on a good trouble-free color printer? Perhaps laser this time? Tried a Xerox 6120 and had nothing but continuous problems. Xerox tried but was of little or no help, but they did replace three of them before we threw in the towel. Thanks again!

    It seems to be related to your printer, maybe it doesn't have a Postscript emulator. Test print a pdf to it.
    Have you updated your printer drivers, Apple regularly has new downloads in its software support pages, and also been to Canon's website to see if there are any reported issues?

  • Reformatting problems combining multiple indesign docs

    My daughter's school newspaper has 24 pages.   Each page is laid out using InDesign and is a separate document.   When all the pages are done, they combine all 24 pages into one big InDesign doc.    But when they do this, some pages will randomly reformat the text, adding spaces, changing line breaks, etc.   They then have to go through the whole thing and re-do all the changes that occurred when the pages were combined.   Does anyone know what settings should be in place so that this random reformating problem does not happen?
    Thanks for your help and feedback!

    There's nothing random about it. When you move a page from one ID doc to
    another if you have identically named styles the definition in the ID doc
    that is being added to takes over.
    Use the book feature to avoid this.
