Export only Clipping Mask to PNG File

I recently upgraded from Illustrator CS3 to Illustrator CS5.
In CS3, I was able to:
Create a clipping mask to hide a portion of the graphic.
Set the crop area to match the clipping mask.
Export the graphic to a PNG file, with only the portion of the graphic included in the crop area displayed.
In CS5,
Converted the crop area to an artboard.
The clipping mask is already in place, so no changes there.
Set the artboard to match the clipping mask.
Attempt to export to a PNG file, but the PNG file automatically contains the entire graphic, not just the area included in the artboard.
I found a workaround online, but it involves flattening the transparency, ungrouping the object and then manually deleting the portions of the graphic that we don't want/need. While this works, it's not a viable solution because I need the ability to go back and make modifications to the original graphic if needed.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Kellie

You have "Clip to Artboard" checked in save for web or "Use Artbaords" checked for export, correct?

  • How do I export with clipping mask?

    I'm a newbie to Illustrator.
    I have a starburst design with a clipping mask. When I try to export as png or jpg, there is a transparent or white border around my design - where the items clipped by the clipping mask are hidden.
    I have flattened the file before exporting. I have "fit to art board". I have checked the "use art board" box when exporting. Nothing removes the border. My art is 8.5 x 11, and my art board is 8.5 x 11. Any other suggestions?
    Thank you!

  • How do i export small clips from an audio file?

    How do I export only a small portion of an audio track to file WITHOUT temporarily deleting any part of the audio file?
    I have a big audio file. This audio file is a language lesson with many, many clips of english sentences and their target language translations. I basically want to cut up each little section that I don't already know how to translate, and use these audio clips as audio flash cards. There's 1 problem though, and that's my lack of Garage Band knowledge. I easily do this up to 80 times per audio lesson, so a simplified method would be preferred.... boy, I'm sure missing Logic right about now ;(

    To export only a part of a track you have two ways:
    The easiest way is the "Cycle Region": set the cycle region to the section of the clip that you want to export. The cycle region will show as a yellow bar at the top of the Timeline. You can drag the ends to adjust it. Silence all other tacks and use "Share > Export song to disk (or share to iTunes)". This will only export that section of he clip.
    The other way would be to duplicate the tarck and work on the copy of the original: Either trim the ends of the region by draging or cut out the section you want (⌘T). Silence the original and export the copy.

  • How to accelerate exporting of multiple layers to PNG-File?

    Hello,
    ai::int32 aint;
    sAILayer->CountLayers(&aint);
    for (int i = 0; i < (int) aint; i++){
          sAILayer->GetNthLayer((ai::int32) i,&layer);
          artSetSuite->LayerArtSet(layer, artSet);
    AIArtHandle hand;
    sAIArt->GetFirstArtOfLayer(layer, &hand);
    e2 = sAIRasterize->Rasterize(artSet, &rs, &bounds, kPlaceAboveAll, hand, &art, MyRasterizeProgressProc);
    sAILayer->GetFirstLayer(&layer);
    e2 = sAIArt->GetLayerOfArt(art, &layer);
    e2 = sAIArt->GetFirstArtOfLayer(layer, &art);
    error = sAIImageOptSuite->MakePNG24(art, dstfilter, pngParams2, MyRasterizeProgressProc);
    the code above shows how I managed to export a artboard with all layers to PNG-File. My question is, if there is a faster way to combine all layer before exporting, maybe a way without the "temporary layer" (Rasterize(...)-method)?
    When I export with the standard-export-button in Adobe Illustrator, it runs fast and with all layers.
    I hope you can help me.
    Greatings from Germany, Dortmund

    I'm confused. The code you quoted almost does exactly what I'd suggest, though the opening loop is odd. It seems to get each layer's artset and then do nothing with it (well, the last one would be rasterized). Why aren't you using AIArtSetSuite::UnionArtSet() to combine all the layer art sets into one art set and then rasterizing that? Then I'd make a PNG from the resultant kRasterArt just like you're doing.
    I"m also not sure what you mean by 'temporary layer' -- you don't seem to be creating a temporary layer. A temporary raster object, sure, but I suspect that's unavoidable.

  • Exporting Layers to PNG files using each layer name to create the file name??

    Hi All
    I'm trying to sort the following problem and was hoping somebody here could help with a scripting solution - my knowledge extends as far as actions unfortunately - which I don't think is appropriate for this.
    I've created a User interface in Illustrator with many layers and have exported this as a psd with layers.
    Basically what i'm wanting to do is export every layer as a png file while using the layer name to create the file name - each layer needs to be clipped.
    There is no transparency in the png.
    I've run the export to files script - but the names are too long and there is no anti aliasing.
    I've tried running a script from Illustrator - but it doesn't see sub layers - and doesn't name the layers.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanking you in advance

    Hi,
    We just released this tool: FERRY (http://ferry.thedamarmada.com). It does exactly what you want and a little bit more.
    I think it's worth it a try.
    It comes with a free demo that will export 5 layers.
    Take a look and let us know if it's what you need.
    It could be easily tweaked.

  • CS6 actions batch saving images to a clipping mask issue

    Hey all,
    Been at this for quite some while now and searched the www thin for suggestion - so really hope someone can help me out here.
    Objective:
    - Target a folder with xxx .gif patterns (in the same size)
    - Setup actions to batch open each image from the folder, copy the pattern image individually over to a .PSD file that have a silhouette of the sleeve.
    - Apply the individual pattern to the clipping mask
    - Save it out as .png
    Issue:
    So far ive only had the automate > batch process to save out one .png with the pattern correctly applied to the silhouette.
    What I experince is that, if I close down everything and initiate automate > batch process then Photoshop will complain about not being able to locate the clipping mask.
    In my action setup I first open my .psd containing my sleeve shape, then open an actual pattern image and then all other steps ending up with saving the .psd with pattern clipping mask to .png.
    Just to give a simple idea about my setup take a look here:
    http://i.imgur.com/FE8mSEU.png
    In this one below, ive closed everything and run the automate > batch process, which gives me the error you can see here:
    http://i.imgur.com/7Cvj26D.png
    Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong OR if I am doing anything wrong?

    Hi Mack,
    Thanks a lot for your throughout response - really appreciate it!
    I do acknowledge that im new to batch in Photoshop and could possibly why this is not working for me - although in not quite sure why and what I would need to make as a programmed script - would you by any chance try to give me an idea on what specific step needs to be programmed?
    My actions are very few and quite simple, and seemed to fit in very nicely in how ive understood the actions feature would work - in any case of not being precise enough here's my exact steps.
    1. I open up Photoshop - No documents or anything are open at current point. I click "Record" in actions
    2. I open my sleeve_layer.PSD  file (which opens up in a tab) -> File -> Open -> PSD
    3. I open one of the pattern .gif files (which opens up in a tab) - which are all located in the same folder with the same size -> File -> Open -> .gif
    4. In my pattern tab window (from nr 3) I select all (ctrl-a) -> copy (ctrl-c)
    5. I then click over to my sleeve_layer.PSD window tab and paste (ctrl-v) my copied pattern image into a layer above my sleeve layer.
    6. I then right-click with my mouse on the pattern.gif layer -> click "Create clipping mask" (the pattern is now only shown within the sleeve layer shape)
    7. I save the work done in the .psd to web -> File -> Save for web -> .png
    8. I then close my sleeve_layer.PSD - without saving it (since I dont want to have clipping masks for each pattern stacking up from the batch)
    9. Recording ends
    If I now run the batch all actions are done fine until it reaches the action with the clipping mask - where I get "The command "Create clipping mask" is not currently available" - I can see that when this error appears, im not seeing any open sleeve_layer.PSD tab - so not sure if the psd file is actually getting opened (and this might be the error for the reference error of the clipping mask to appear).
    If I try to manually RUN the actions set in the actions panel, I notice though that the sleeve_layer.PSD tab is getting opened.
    When running automate -> batch -> I point "source" to my folder of all patterns (only .gif files appear in this folder)
    "Destination" folder is set to some other folder.

  • Imovie quitting due to PNG file

    Everytime I add a png to imove the program quits.  It also quits while exporting video when I have png files in the movie.  Anyone know how to fix this issue?

    If you are adding the Png directly to the timeline, try adding it as a Cutaway or a Picture in Picture instead.
    Also, it works best if you set the png to the dimensions of your project, e.g. 1920x1080. If iMovie has to resize the png, it will convert to JPEG and you lose the transparency.

  • Indesign CS5 with PNG file exporting as a PDF file but the text is random bold

    Hello,
    I am looking for help to teach me how to solve this problem.
    I use Indesign CS5 to make a proposal. I set the page marker and sub title in the master page.
    Of course, there are including dozens of pages and some pictures here.
    And one of these page, I place a PNG file and type some text.
    When I export this file as a PDF file, one page, which is including PNG file, the text becomes random bold.
    Therefore, I have used PSD file to cover the PNG file. But finally getting the same problem.
    So does anyone can help me how to solve this problem?
    Thanks so much for your help.

    This sounds like a known issue with transparency on the page. When transparency is introduced ID uses a differnt method, apparently, of rendering text on that page and it appears bolder on screen and can print that way on low resolution devices like desktop printers. It usually is not a problem on press output.
    The only way to mainatian consistency would be to introduce transparency on all pages, perhaps by adding a transparent object to your master page.

  • Hi. I'm using illustrator cs6 on pc. I've made a scientific figure for a paper and now I'm trying to export as a png or save for microsoft office. Despite my figure being in the middle of my artboard, it always comes out bottom left in the png file or jpg

    Hi. I'm using illustrator cs6 on pc. I've made a scientific figure for a paper and now I'm trying to export as a png or save for microsoft office. Despite my figure being in the middle of my artboard, it always comes out bottom left in the png file or jpg. Must be making a school boy error! Please help!

    In similar cases, my solution is to "select all" then "deselect" only the artwork I want to keep and "delete". If I'm curious I may "cut" then "paste" to see what shows up in the center of the screen. it is usually some stray point. or other element out direct sight.

  • Illustrator files from Bridge creates Clipping mask.

    I would like to use Bridge as a library for my Illustrator files. Only when I pressed shift key when dragging a illustrator file into my (illustrator) document, he translate my Artboard into a clipping mask. Does anyone have a solution?
    I'm working in Adobe Illustrator CS5. Thnk you.

    @ Kurt & Monika, thank you for your help. Indeed, I see more advantages in the use of Bridge mainly because I have my files used in Illustrator and Photoshop.
    Action button is an option, same as the "Edit Clipping Path" button at the top of the control bar. Open a file is also an option.
    I was just wondering if I overlooked an option for better storage of my files. Thnk for youre time.

  • How do you make individual jpgs from a clipping mask of a larger jpg file?

    I have a large mosaic picture that makes up an image. I have set dimensions and a template of smaller bounding boxes that will be individual canvas's when I print them and when put together will make this larger image. I am unable to export or save individual jpg files from this clipping mask of a larger file. Any Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Garrett

    Don't use clipping masks, use artboards and enable the "use artboards" option on export.

  • Exporting png files

    I am trying to maintain a website that was designed by
    someone else. I want to change the drop down menus on the home
    page. I know how to edit the pop-up menu. The pop-up menu is one
    aspect of a png file. So then I save the file, export it, but when
    I go to upload it in Dreamweaver, it seems to upload as normal, but
    the changes that I made do not appear when I view the page on the
    web.
    What am I doing wrong? It must have something to do with the
    exporting process or maybe I'm not uploading all the files that I
    need to.
    Thanks.

    Rant away, but its only Fireworks users who read these posts,
    but if it

    By the way, I was under the impression that you get 90 days
    free support
    from the day of purchase.
    And I totally feel your frustration about the seamless
    integration being
    rubbish, its over marketed and they should drop it.
    The UI is nothing like Photoshop, which is why I prefer
    Fireworks. I
    could always get on with Macromedia products, but never
    Adobe, so I was
    worried when Adobe bought Macromedia, in fear that the UI
    would be
    ruined. Its the next version of Fireworks and other
    Macromedia products
    that will see the big changes in UI, unless they are really
    kind to us
    loyal Macromedia users and leave it alone.

  • Why does CC update .png files only some of the time?

    I am creating some lower thirds from a template in PS, saving them as .png files and bringing them into the project. When I get updates from our clients, I will make those changes in the .psd, and save over the original .png file. Sometimes CC will update that file in the project without having to re-import and everything is fine. It isnt a huge hassle to just replace the file but Id like to know why it only works some of the time.
