Export with .mov extension in Adobe Media Encoder

Hello Forum,
How do I get media encoder to export a H264 with a .mov extenstion rather than a .mp4 extension?
Mac OS 10.8.5
Media Encoder 7.2.0
Thanks all!

Hi TacoRye,
Thanks for posting on Adobe forums.
Please choose Format QuickTime in Export Settings to get .mov files.
If you do not have QuickTime Player installed on the system please install from this link

Please update if this works out for you.

  • Exporting a HDV sequence using Adobe media encoder

When editing a multi-camera shoot for insertion into a larger project, my method in PP1 DV days was to import the clips as AVIs, cut it together as a standalone sequence, and then export a completed AVI which I simply dropped into the final project.
With HDV footage in CS3, I imported the footage as 1440X1080 mpegs by default, cut it, and then used AME to export it as a 1440X1080 mpg2, to be dropped into the master project. The footage was captured 'Lower Field First', so would I be best to export the mpg2 as 'Lower Field First' or 'Deinterlaced' for maximum quality...or does it not matter? I assume exporting it as 'Upper Field First' wouldn't be a bright idea. I'll be authoring the final product to DVD to start with, but I want to keep all the source footage as 1440X1080 for a Blu-Ray release in a few months.
    All opinions gratefully received.

    > I imported the footage as 1440X1080 mpegs by default, cut it, and then used AME to export it as a 1440X1080 mpg2
    Why?
    > The footage was captured 'Lower Field First',
HDV is upper field first, so how did you capture from what?
    > I'll be authoring the final product to DVD to start with
So export with AME to MPEG2-DVD 720x480 LFF.

  • Horrible video output quality with Premiere Pro CS4 + Adobe Media Encoder

I am trying to make some changes to a DV format file, and output as the same DV format. When the video is brought into Premiere, it looks crisp in the left-hand video box. But, when playing it on the right window and when encoding it, it comes out as a mess with substantial compression artifacts.
What confuses me is, I have experimented with a lot of codecs--even uncompressed AVI. There is no change in the video resolution--source is 720x480, as is output. I am keeping all the pixel aspect ratios the same as the source footage.
What is creating this distortion? I have no scaling of the video whatsoever in the sequence...
Is there some compression box I'm not seeing here?
I've attached a screenshot of a still from the video. As you can see, substantial artifacting around the lettering, making the text unreadable.

  • Render tiff sequence starting with comp frame# in adobe media encoder?

    Hi
Does anybody know how to render out a tiff sequence with AME using an after fx comp where the tiff frame numbering generated by AME reflects the same frame numbering in an After fx comp? so if my work area bar in AE comp starts at frame 73 then the first tiff frame rendered out of AME starts at frame 73. at present it seems to always start at 0 which is no good because i then have to renumber all the frames to ensure they replace the correct frames in the image sequence. i already know how to do this rendering directly out of AE. however its nice using AME because you can continue to work in AE while AME runs in the background.
    cheers!

Unfortunately you cannot specify a start file number.
That would make a good feature request.

  • Adobe Media Encoder cuts off video layer when the Ultra Key effect is applied

I am working on a Mac (10.8.5) using the latest verison of Premiere Pro CC. I am using Ultra Key to remove the chroma key background from the "talent layer" and adding a "new background layer" behind the talent video layer. When I export directly from Premiere, the sequence exports as expected. However, I have many sequences, and wish to speed up the  process using Adobe Media Encoder. When I export the same sequence using Adobe Media Encoder, the top half of the "talent layer" is completly cut off:
The issue has something to do with the Ultra key effect because when I remove the effect from the "talent layer" it exports in tact (with a chroma key background of course). Adobe Media Encoder CC is up to date as well; are there any known bugs with Media Encoder CC and the Ultra Key effect in Premiere Pro?
    Thanks!

  • Queuing from Premiere Pro to Adobe Media Encoder no longer working? CS6

    Hi there,
Just very recently adobe media encoder has stopped accepting que's from premiere. I choose export in premiere, setup the export details and hit que, adobe media encoder launches, but then it flashes once (like disappears reappears, very quickly) and then it just simply does nothing. No item appears in the que. I have tried opening the premiere sequence directly from adobe media encoder but it does nothing either. If I drag the premiere project directly onto a preset in adobe media encoder, it crashes every time. (though not sure if it would of done this previous to my problem arising)
Anyway, very frustrating as I usually work on a different project whilst media encoder is rendering something out. Now i'm stuck with huge down times as I wait till the render is finished.
Recently updated to Mac OSX 10.8.3 - I think this is when the problem began.
Just updated the CUDA driver to 5.0.45 but this has not changed anything.

  • Add Metadata, Options to Open in Adobe Media Encoder for Video Files

I was surprised to discover that some basic information about video files is not shown. For example, the duration of a QuickTime video is not shown.
Also, there is no option to open an MOV file in Adobe Media Encoder.
It would be nice to have this basic support for video.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 and Adobe Media Encoder Problems

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 on a Mac running 10.6, and I consistently encounter this problem when trying to export a Premiere project using Adobe Media Encoder.
What does this mean? And has anyone else encountered this problem as well? I really need a fix if there is one, because I really need to be using Premiere. I have reinstalled several times, but to no avail. Help me please!

    Jim, thanks for testing.
My concerns are about a)distribution and general b)compatibility.
    a) When videos are distributed most of the users will probably try to open the files with Windows Media Player. So it is not a good start to have fresh exported h.264 videos which won't run fine with the 'main' player on windows
    b) I am wondering if the Problems with Windows Media Player may also be a sign of a general compatibility issue of the h.264 video itself
At least in case b) Adobe would have to look into this.
    Here is another test video:

  • Freezes when exporting .mov files in CS4 / Adobe Media Encoder

For the past 7 hours now I have been trying every internet remedy for the following problem, and was wondering if any of you nice people could help:
I just came back from a ski trip, and wanted to make an edit featuring my fiends. I recorded large parts of the trip on my new iPhone, both in 720p 120fps (120.15fps, h.264 1280*720) and the normal 1080p 30fps. iPhone files are in the .mov format. I also recorded some parts on a GoPro hero hd2 camera at both 720p 60fps and 1080p 30fps. GoPro files are in the MP4 format, and i've never had a probvlem with them.
Now all imports fine into premiere pro, and although I had a few problems with freezing while editing initially, this was quickly solved by terminating all unused (non-adobe) processes in task manager.
So I spent a good 4 hours making a 2.5 minute edit of our day, and wanted to export it.
So I selected the sequence, and went file>export>media, selected all of the preferences i wanted for exporting, and sent it to the Adobe media encoder.
The media encoder loads the files for a few seconds, and then starts the encoding process. And promptly freezes. It freezes at around 10-20 seconds (depending on export preferences) after starting to encode, and never restarts. i can then pause the encode, but cancelling it crashes adobe media encoder and subsequently also crashes Premiere Pro.
I may be mistaken here, but I have a strong suspicion that It is quicktime that is causing all this.
    So I tried the following:
    - reinstalling, downgrading, updating, etc. Quicktime
    - renaming file extensions from .mov to .mp4
    - all sorts of export preferences, from image sequences to dvd to blueray and dv. (Image sequences, interestingly, occasionally export to about half a minute into the video(also depending on preferences), then freeze)
    - crossing my fingers
    - checking for gaps in video, found none
    - updating premiere pro and media encoder
    - throwing my mouse at the wall in frustration
    - making a new project with different settings and copying in the sequence
    - disabling "Include source xmp metadata"
    - making a new user account and trying it there
Is there anything else I can try?
Could I copy the project itself into a different program (e.g. iMovie or Windows Movie Maker) and export from there?
Is there an alternative to Adobe media encoder?
    Need more information?
    Thanks for the help!
    Specs:
    Premiere version: 4.2.1
    Encoder version: 4.2.0.006
    Comp specs:
    16Gb ram
    quad core i5
256 Gb solid state (system, program files are here)
2TB HDD (video files, scratch disk are here)
    Nvidia gtx 660 graphics
    Windows 64 bit
    1 monitor

I bought quicktime pro today to try this, but to no avail. it just freezes up again during export.
I tried some other fixes on that page, like renaming files to .mpg extension, which worked once during an export of a test sequence (although everything was shifted and it cut off the export at the gopro footage).
Is there any way I can export this project to another program to export it from there perhaps?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Adobe Media Encoder: Audio won't export with video

I am trying to convert an AVCHD video for viewing on my iPad 3. I use Adobe Media Encoder and select the iPad 2 settings (1920x1080) and it exports the video perfect, but no audio. I have "Export Audio" checked off. I tried it with 5 other settings and it just wont include the audio. Any ideas?

Seems random people are running in to this, so hopefully this solution will be found by whomever's looking.
If you're exporting video files from Final Cut Pro as .mov, and then trying to convert said .mov to an .mp4 using Adobe Media Encoder and are losing audio even though you're multiplexing, try this...
Make sure that you export only a 2-channel audio track from FCP.   When I export from FCP, I split my audio into various tracks by default.  Great for making master clips, but problematic if uploading to YouTube or doing further encoding in Adobe Media Encoder.   Like YouTube, if you have more than 2 tracks of audio, Media Encoder seems to get confused and ignores all audio tracks.  Combine all audio into a 2-channel stereo track and see if that solves the problem.
Regardless of editing program, see if reducing number of audio channels from source clip solves problem.

  • Exporting with Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 loses sound.

So... I've been having a hell of a time with the new Adobe creative cloud when it comes to video editing.  The drop of .flv format, unable to straight export .H24 formats from after effects, it's a total nightmare.  Here's the issue, to export as a .H24, you now have to use Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014.  The biggest issue, however, is at the end of the export, when you open the video, half of the video's sound is mysteriously GONE.  Just gone.  If you go back to after effects, look at the file and the audio, the wave forms are there.  There's nothing that would make it lose sound.  Audio is selected on export... I have no idea what's up.  Editing videos for youtube was a snap in previous versions of After Effects, now It's becoming almost impossible.

  • Adobe Media Encoder - Issue with exporting file

When I send a file to Adobe Media Encoder and I hit queue I get an error, "could not read from source file, please check if it has been moved or deleted".
The source file location that the AME is trying to use is C:\Users\User Name\AppData\local\temp\file name.prproj
    Is this file location correct?
Why is not using my scratch disk file?
How do I change the file that AME is trying to use?
I have not been able to export a video since I have purchased Premiere CS4.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

If you want a quick work-around do not try exporting from Premiere, just save and exit the project after you are through editing.  Open AME and under File, select Add Premiere Pro Sequence, browse for your project file and click on it once--have patience Adobe's feedback here is lousy--your sequence will finally appear in the Sequence window, click on it and then click on OK.  Select your Format,.Preset and Output location.  If you want to tweak your settings just click on the Settings button.  Then hit Start Queue.
Do you have the project on an external removable drive?

  • Having major issues with Adobe Media Encoder (AME) - exporting with weird image flickering/colour anomalies, crashing regularly, freezing during encode...!

    Hi Guys
I am having some real issues with Adobe Media Encoder (AME) at the moment.  It appears that I am unable to encode an h.264 for Vimeo from a Premiere Pro Project file at the moment without at least some weird image issues that are not supposed to be there.  These include weird flickering, colour changes, artefacts etc.  This is if I am lucky...often I am unable to get the process to complete as the application either crashes and tells me there has been a problem or it simply freezes and I have to force quit the application and often restart my machine.
The problem seems to not to just be with h.264 for the web encodes but also with BluRay h.264 as well. As yet I haven't seen if there is a problem with MPEG-2 for DVD so I will check this out too!
Does anyone else see this happening or does anyone know what might be the problem?
I thought the Premiere Pro project might have been corrupt so tried a different project but the same issues were happening here too.
Any help would be really gratefully received.
    Cheers

Agreed, I now have a project to GET OUT, and AME crashes consistently 1/3 into the render. It appears to halt all processing after (real time) 00:02:30
Am seriously considering uninstalling CC as I am beginning to find other issues in some apps, and going back to CS6/MC just so I can get work out. Durn it Adobe this is AWFUL!!
Alright, let's try to be constructive instead of throwing rocks... but the frustration level is high, and I have material on deadline. Let's get with this, guys...
    What OS Win7, 64-bit
What version of AME/PPro (Please be specific by getting the full version number in the About Adobe Media Encoder screen) 8.2.0.54 Ppro: 8.2.0 (65)
When is it crashing (Again, the more detail here about where it was in the encoding process the better) roughly 1/3 into the sequence, always on exactly the same frame - tried replacing the clip with something different to see if it was a timeline error, and NO EFFECT.
What is your source (PPro project or media file (what kind?)) PPro
If the source if a PPro project, does it work when exporting directly from PPro? NO
What format are you exporting to? H.264, QT, WM, tried everything my client can play.
Do other formats work? MPEG2, QuickTime, etc? NO
Have you tried with GPU rendering on? How about turning it off by switching to Software-only mode? Mine doesn't have any choice, it's software-only.
Have you tried disabling Native Sequence Loading? (AME Preferences: General > Enable Native Sequence Loading) No effect
Other things I tried: uninstalling/reinstalling AME, setting cache to a fast local disk.
