Exporting sequence metadata embedded in a movie?

We have a project with many different sequences, each representing a different DVD's worth of information. Each sequence has unique metadata, involving year, subject, etc. (we were using the comments fields for this) We were testing sequence exports using Quicktime conversion, but when we brought the generated movie files back into a different project file in FCP, the metadata was not preserved in the newly generated media.
Is there any way to accomplish this? Can we "embed" sequence metadata into an exported movie file?

That isn't SEQUENCE metadata, that is CLIP metadata. Anything in the MASTER COMMENTS or LOG NOTES fields, those are tied to the Browser and project. They will not be included in any data that you export as a Quicktime movie. Even if you made a lot of comments and filled in all the fields on the clip, if you export ONLY THAT CLIP as a QT movie...those comments will not follow. They are tied to the project.
You can put MARKERS on the timeline, make them chapter markers and make comments there. That information will be retained in the exported file.

  • Need to export custom metadata fields to a national data base, can I ???

In Aperture3 are custom tags embedded in exported Versions or Masters. I have a task to embed matadata on 2000 items and need to pass on the information to someone who doesn’t have Aperture

I am not sure whether you really can embed custom metadata in the jpeg file itself. However you can quite easily export all metadata associated with a file in Aperture using AppleScript. The script below shows you how it works in principle with the different data categories in aperture: IPTC, custom fields etc. To adapt the script to your needs, replace eg "Photo Category" with the name of your own custom field. By copy/paste you can add more fields...
    tell application "Aperture"
    set tSelection to the selection
-- this is the header, not really necessary
set tValues to "Version Name" & tab
set tValues to tValues & "File Name" & tab

set tImg to item i of tSelection
    --add Version name

set t to name of tImg

    set t to ""
    end try
set tValues to tValues & t & tab
    try
    --add FileName

  • Export sequence for import as media source?

Im shooting hour long HDV tapes and need to work with them in FCP as hour long, uninterrupted media files. Unfortunately, there are timecode breaks and things like that that break the media apart upon import. I've reassembled the hour long footage in a sequence and would now like to export that sequence so that it is a full quality, hour long media source I can then reimport. I need the new media file to be the identical quality of the original footage and original import. How can I do this? Thank you.

Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie. When the export window opens, click the 'Make Movie Self Contained' button. Do NOT recompress all frames. Your exported clip will be the exact same quality as your Sequence in FCP.

  • Trouble Exporting to 16:9 with Quicktime Movie or Quicktime Conversion

I have created a 5 minute movie using shots taken from my Sony HDR-FX1. The shots were native 16:9. They imported fine into FCEHD. While editing in FCEHD, the clips all displayed in the viewer as 16:9. When I exported to Quicktime Movie, the resulting product was 16:9. When I exported using Quicktime Conversion, my product became 4:3.
Having read other posts here, I looked closely at all clips (which were all checked as Anamorphic), and my Sequence (which was not checked Anamorphic -- but was instead HD1440x1080). I then created a new sequence, which was checked as Anamorphic, copied my clips to it, then exported it. It got worse. Now, it exports 4:3 using both Quicktime Movie and Quicktime Conversion.
I then created a new project, created a new sequence set to Anamorphic, then copied one clip into it from my earlier project and exported it -- same result. I then imported a clip into this new project from the original files from my camera and exported -- same result.
One final note, when looking at the Frame Size in the properties of my sequence and clips, it is set to 720x480. And, when I look at the Get Info on the exported files of the original, I see 1920x1080 (Quicktime Movie export) and 1440x1080 (Quicktime Conversion export) before I created the new sequence; then 720x480 in both after I created the new sequence.
Any help you can provide would be incredibly appreciated!
    Dan

You are right. My original sequence was marked as HD. When I exported that one to Quicktime Movie, it displayed 16:9.
Then, I created a new sequence that was 720x480 and checked as anamorphic. That one, exported with Quicktime Movie and/or Quicktime Conversion was 720x480 and was squeezed into 4:3 rather than displaying in Quicktime as 16:9.
Last night, I burned this to DVD using iMovie and it displayed properly on my 16:9 television. But, alas, it is squeezed on my 4:3 television (rather than letterboxed).
Also, I exported to Quicktime Conversion and used "custom size" of 720x405 and achieved a movie that will play in Quicktime as near 16:9 so I can put it up on the web in the right dimensions.
Is there a better/easier way to export footage shot 16:9, edited 16:9 so that it automatically exports 16:9 for use in Quicktime and/or on a DVD?

  • Exporting Sequence Unknown error

Impossible to export sequence, I keep on getting the message "Error compilling movie.  Unknown error."
I even tried to export in batches, it still does not work.
The sequence is under 5 minutes with mix camera footage:  GoPro, Iphone, MPEG4, MXF files.
Working on a MAC PRO 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel. 16 CB memory.
Editing with Premiere Pro Cloud CS6.  Editing mode AVCHD Square pixel 23.976 fps matching the MXF files.
I had previously exported another sequence of shorter length just fine. (it was a minute long) but this one is a no go.
I took out the majority of effects I had created which were all done with CS6 (repo, resize, etc.. ), still getting the same message.  Started new project, new sequence, etc.. Same issue.
Project was previously edited on another computer, on a PC, and the names of the folders and the clips were modified on the drive (from the original folders which do not exist anymore)  I had to relink the footage clip by clip to keep the original description, and yet sometimes when I shut down the program, the clips go unlinked, and I have to start again.
I am just trying to export for Youtube.
    Suggestions are welcome.

In my experience, having mixed content (codecs, resolutions, frame rates) does not cause encoding to fail.
Your graphics card is not supported for PPro's GPU acceleration, and new drivers will not change that. For the purposes of your current encoding problems, being able to enable GPU acceleration is not likely to fix the issue. In fact, it's more likely that GPU acceleration would cause the problem, so I was going to recommend switching to software only had the GPU been in the mix.
    Here's what I'd try:
Clear the project's cache file in case one of them is the fly in the ointment. You'll find them at the following path (unless you set a custom path for this project): /Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common
Download the trial version of PPRO CC, load your CS6 project, and try to encode. It's possible that you're hitting a problem that was fixed in 7.x. Be advised that if you make any edits to the project in 7.x, you will not be able to open the new version of the project in CS6.
If neither of those measures work, then the best bet is to try to isolate the cause of the encoding failure. I do this by dividing the sequence: 1st half/2nd half; or video-only/audio-only; or if there are multiple tracks, disable one at a time.

  • Source files gone Offline but still exist - Can't export sequence!

    Hi folks,
I'm hoping someone can help me out of a predicament, please.
I began a brief project a year or so back in FCP 3x for a friend to send to her kids. Since then it lay fallow until she brought me some new footage to add, but still have the Scratch disk intact as it was and the FCP Project files library with it. In the interim I'd upgraded the FCP Studio 3 and opened up the project in FCP 7. Strangely, some of the clips in the bin were listed as offline. I couldn't discern any pattern or reason why some clips were still linked with their raw source files and some not. In any case, I finished editing the short sequence in the timeline and went to export it to QT. I should have realized that, predictably, the exported sequence included only those segments that were not offline. I checked again and all the source clips from the camera exist, but was unable to reconnect them to the clips that access them.
For instance, the source file might be named, 100_2347.MOV, while named in the bin, ELS - Windshield Before JLM.
I'm notified that 20 of the clips are offline, but any attempt to reconnect fails. I'm not as savvy in FCP as I probably should be, otherwise this would not have happened, or I could reconstruct the actions that got me there, but I was fairly proficient on a Moviola and fluent on a Steenbeck about a 100 years ago, though.
What can I do at this point? Is there any way to force a reconnect? Manually? Will I have to start a new project re-import the clips and recut the thing? I hope I won't have to edit the thing from scratch at this point. What am I forgetting (Doh)? Thanks in advance for any help on this.
    All the best,
    David

Control-click on an offline clip in your FCP Browser, and choose Reconnect Clip from the drop down menu. In the top box of the pane that opens, you should see the clip listed as offline, and the directory where FCP was expecting to find the clip.
Is FCP expecting to find the clip on a drive that you no longer have connected, or have renamed?
What happens when you press the locate button?
Don't worry that you have renamed the clip in the browser to something other than than the source file name. FCP will keep track of that.

  • How can I export a keynote proyect to a movie?

I am making an assigment for the university and I don't know how to export a keynote presentation to a movie, ( with short videos and narration inside of it ).
I tried quicktime export and it didin't work , the whole timing thing was awful!
I really need this presentation to be exported into a DVD or a CD or anything so I can give it to my guide teacher...
    Help me please
PS: I am using a MacBook Pro to make this

This is a well known problem with Keynote 6.1, the only thing you can do is use Keynote 5.3 instead, if you have it.
Meanwhile sit back and wait to see if Apple issues a fix in the schedule of updates they said they would issue during 2014.

  • Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (Final Cut Studio)?

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?
    Thank you.
P.S. Where would be the best place to store projects or any other file related to Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro X? My MacBook Pro has 320GB built in storage (only 60GB available), and I have a 1TB external hard drive.
What is best to store on the Macintosh internal hard drive?
What is best to store on the external hard drive?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.

  • Context right-click to export XMP metadata to file

I'd like to have the right click context menu include the option to "Export XMP Metadata to Files" in the Library grid or filmstrip. Currently an annoying trip to the Menu bar is required to invoke this function.

It was there for B4.1. The Contextual Menus are getting crowded, so maybe that's why they took it out.
I like lots of Contexual Menus, too. But they get a little useless if too crowded, so maybe they need ot be user configuarable for what one uses the most.
    Maybe by V1.5?

  • How can I export to a web page with movies?

    Hello,
I just noticed that when I exported a folder of pictures and movies to a web page, only the pictures showed up. Is there a way I can use the export to web page feature and see my movies?
    Thanks!

Are you using iWeb to create your web page? If so then the only options from within iPhoto for exporting are a photo page or blog page. You need to export only the photos and once in iWeb create a separate movie page and import that movie to that specific page via the Media button at the bottom.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to export custom metadata fields

How do I export custom metadata fields (or even the DATE) to a text or spreadsheet? Why does Aperture have dozens of metadata choices, but only allows a few to be exported?

You can try Automator which must be installed already in your computer. Create a new workflow, on the left pane select Aperture to see a list of actions, select "get selected items" and "extract metadata", and drag both to the right most pane. there you'll choose the Tag names to extract from the images already selected inside aperture and choose an output method, tabbed text should work fine for a spreadsheet. Hope it works.

  • How to export sequence to P2 card?

    Hi everybody
I saw a tutorial in Adobe webpage explaining how to export sequence back to P2 Card, as Premiere CS3.2 (updated) is able to recreate, from a edited timeline, all the folder and file system needed to be read on a P2 card under mxf format.
This can be a great way to export full resolution HD edited footage from one PC to another.
Unfortunately, I cannot find "export to P2" choice in my menu. I get export to Encore, to Tape, but no "P2" mention. But this mention appear in the Adobe tutorial... concernig any version from Premiere CS3.1
How comes this feature doesn't appear anywhere into the menu of my Premiere pro CS3, version 3.2?
    Any clue?
    Thanks

I found the link explaining how to do it.
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/help.html?content=WSE32B8568-2904-4e95-861 A-F09F75AA6C7B.html
    Here is what they say:
"Select the sequence or clip in the Timeline panel or Project panel.
(Optional) If exporting from the Timeline, set a timeline marker, numbered 0 on the frame you want used as the P2 icon for the exported.
If you do not set this marker, the first frame of the sequence will appear as the P2 icon by default.
Choose File > Export > Export To P2."
Problem is that: I don't get any "export to P2" at this place in my Premiere CS3.2

If delivering your content from an LMS, there should be an option to play the content in a separate browser window...without toolbars.  This makes it a lot easier to predict what size you need to build your course.
After factoring in all the variables and using trial and error on a number of systems, with and without LMSs, I've found a size of 995x627 to be almost ideal.  It's big enough to display most software apps and websites, but small enough to be viewable by users on 1024x768 systems.
You have to remember that if you have a significant number of end-users on 1024x768 and that's the lowest common resolution you need to build for, then you CANNOT make your screen size 1024x768.  You have to build smaller to allow for toolbars, browser chrome, etc.
One of the first things any wise elearning developer does when they begin a project, before they start creating content, is to survey their user base and find out what constraints are imposed within which they need to work.  Things like monitor resolution, Flash-player version, LMS, bandwidth all play a part in the success or failure of your project.  Find out early rather than later.

  • Exporting Custom Metadata to Excel

I've created custom metadata views and presets for cataloging my images. Is it possible to export this metadata into an Excel spreadsheet as a CSV or TSV file? File/Export/Metadata exports standard metadata, but not my custom fields and entries. Or, is it possible to export XMP sidecar files and somehow import those into Excel? All that data is there somewhere within Aperture - please help me get it out and into a spreadsheet! Thanks.

There is a problem in using flash files on a Mac. You need to use the Flash tool and not use the legacy multimedia content method. This may only be available with Acrobat 9.
