Exposed cable on our property

A Comcast cable was severed on our property on or around August 1st. Comcast came out to repair the line, but has left around 15 feet of cable unburried and exposed. This is a safety hazard as it is very close to the road, in the way for lawn maintenance and unsightly. We have been trying for a month now, to get someone out here to bury the cable and repair the damage they have left to our lawn as they tore up the sod and left a large pile of dirt and grass. My husband has made many phone calls over the month only to find out that his call tickets have been closed, cancelled or never recorded. Please help!!!,

The other utility companies have been out twice already to mark the other utility lines! We have spray paint and little flags all the way down the street marking the lines. The problem is that they repaired a cut cable and didn't bury it back underground. The utilities were already marked at that time also! I don't understand why we've placed 8 work orders already and nothing!
Yeah, that happens sometimes, Comcast can be really bad at internal communications. What is happening is that you are calling in and the phone reps are just scheduling install techs to come out and bury the line (it's called a "drop"), but it's something that techs don' typically do. No doubt they are just telling their supervisors that they couldn't complete the job.
The drop should not be buried, it should be replaced, which is probably why the tech that made the repairs, but didn't re-bury that section. Comcast's policy is to replace any damaged drops.
The best way to get this resolved is to contact the We Can Help Team ([email protected]) They will motivate your local system to get the situation resolved and will follow up with you to make sure everything is completed to your satisfaction.

  • Comcast buried a cable in our yard and snipped another cable

Comcast came out and buried a new cable in our yard. This weekend rained very hard and a neighbor notices smoke coming from our grass after the rain stopped. He walked over in his bare feet and felt electric currents going through his feet. The place where the grass was smoking is now burnt grass. It is in the same area as the comcast guy was digging to bury the new cable. We need someone to come out asap to fix this problems. We believe our invisible fence wiring was snipped by this man. Trying to get through to comcast is nothing but a joke. We have small children playing in our yard, and the last thing I want to happen is one of them to get zapped because they went over to the area with burnt grass.

  • Unresolved property damage claim Sedgwick/AT&T

We had an AT&T service person out in June because our U-Verse internet connection had been acting up.  He decided to run a new data cable to our U-Verse router, and in the process drilled a hole from the outside of our home, through a sewage drain pipe for our upstairs bathroom, and then on through the drywall.  The damage was not discovered until months later, and we have now filed a claim with AT&T's Risk Management department. In the past two weeks, I have placed 15 phone calls between AT&T tech support, AT&T risk management, and Sedgwick (the 3rd party company that is managing the claim).  If I had hair, I would have pulled it out by now. I have provided Sedgwick with all of the information that I can regarding the claim (pictures, invoices, etc), but according to them *and* AT&T tech support, the service record was deleted after 6 months (even though it hasn't been 6 months yet).  This mythical service record apparently contains a key piece of information, the name of the AT&T service person who installed the cable (and caused the damage). Without this person's name, the claim will not move forward.  The personnel from Sedgwick claim that it will take up to 30 days to contact all of the service managers in our region to accomplish the following: 1) figure out who performed the service, and 2) get them to confirm that damage was caused by the AT&T service person who I watched drill the hole in this wall. This is unacceptable.  Quite frankly, it is ludicrous.  There is absolutely no question that the damage is AT&T's fault. We have no other telecommunications provider.  This is the *only* data cable on our property.  I was physically present when the AT&T service person installed the cable. I have attempted to escalate this issue with Sedgwick and AT&T.  As things stand now, Sedgwick is saying wait 30 days while they look for a needle in a haystack, and AT&T's risk management group says I might get a call back from the AT&T-Sedgwick Liason, but there is no guarantee that I will even get that much attention. Is there any other avenue to attract the attention of someone at AT&T with the authority and ability to fix this?

This is a newer post, I have posted before customer care, and the person who helped us is not returning our emails. We had for over 2 years TWO YEARS, an ATTUverse cable that several of the technicians that were repeatedly sent out said was no good, the pole was bad, and that the wire should have been removed; it was hanging so low over our driveway my husband could reach up and touch it, and then they had slung it through one of my expesive Blue Spruce trees, which are very expensive, then it went up through our taller hardwood tree which happened to  have a fork in it so it was perfect for them to throw it up in that tree, instead of taking the cable down in the first place. I had the regional manager out, the Uverse guy that takes photos of the issues, they both told me this is ridiculous of whoever threw that cable in our trees instead of doing it properly, the photographer took dozens of photos of it. They both assured me this would be taken care of. The cable remained, and there it hung, despite the promises. Finally I got on here and someone who obviously was a manager finally got the cable taken down late in the season of 2013.Now I got the call from Sedgewick rep, who was totally uncaring, and just kept repeating: well our manager came by the property and did not see any cables!!! NO KIDDING!! They were finally taken down late 2013, but the very area of this tree (blue spruces this size are expensive; I took horticulture in college and had a friend in the business tell me how much this tree is worth) is completely dead from UVerse's cable that was thrown up through that exact area of the tree, and that area is DEAD!! TWO year of it hanging in that tree killed the area of it. What is going on? Sedgewick said since the manager did not see the cable (again, NO KIDDING) they are "denying our claim"Can someone out there help me? I have spent several hundred minutes on the phone with UVerse over this and they have made it an uncalled for issue. Someone please contact me over this. You ruined our property with your junk that should have been removed right away but left it there for TWO years, and now we, the customers take the hit? Ridiculous.

  • Relocation cable - Pole/Post to property connectio...

The telephone cable to the property is provided via a supporting cable from the nearby post, the anchored point of which is connected to the facia board with a triangular bracket with a loop to which the supporting cable is attached.
The facia boards need to be replaced and to undertake what is fairly basic maintenance the bracket needs to be relocated.
Why BT made this type of connection in the first place is really beyond any sense as any wooden material will only have a limited lifespan.
However, on contacting BT and Open Reach they have both said that they will charge £120/130 for doing this.
I have argued with both of them that I do not feel that this is reasonable since it was BT in their wisdom who have poorly sited/fitted it in the first place.
Open Reach have advised that they would no longer use such an anchoring point and would now always connect to the brickwork, so they have clearly recognised the errors of their way but simply pass the buck back to BT as it would have been them that fitted the line in the first place, not them.
It is my understanding that BT have responsibility up until the main/first junction box and it was clearly their decision/responsibility for making the original connection in the first place and therefore, it should be their responsibility to relocate it at their own expense?
As a disabled person my funds are very limited but equally do not feel that BT should be able to simply shirk their responsibility.
The power company who have done a similar thing by connection power cables to the lower facia boards have simply accepted their responsibility and will simply relocate their cables at their own expense so why BT are not willing to do similarly is beyond me.
    Can anybody offer any advice?

  • 1st generation vs. 3rd generation Ipad and Cable TV Viewing app.

I recently had the opportunity to borrow a 3rd generation ipad from work.  I brought it home and loaded the optimum online app. from my cable company that allows you to watch cable anywhere you are within range of your home WIFI supplied by them.
I was really surprised when I was able to take the ipad out back to the furthest most point of our property, where a summer screen house is set up,
and although the signal from my Netgear WNR834B v2 router was hovering around 1 or 2 signal strength on the iPad3, the quality of the TV signal being streamed did not waver at all.  The picture was absolutely pristine (after a few seconds) and there were absolutely no drop outs of the streaming video.  Again, THIS with absolute minimum signal strength.
I had to return the device to work, but picked up a used 1st generation iPad on ebay, and loaded the same optimum online app. onto it.  On the 1st generation device, the signal was both visually fuzzier (at that furthest point in the backyard) and had freezes and breaks in the streaming video at that same furthest point outside at the edge of the property.  It works great inside near the router or in most points in the house and is pristine.
My first question...did they updgrade some technology between the 1st and 3rd generation iPads that would account for the difference in the way the weak signal drops out on the 1st generartion device, but did not on the 3rd generation ipad?  Or could that be the app itself somehow making use of the upgraded technology between the two generation of devices?
My second question....I'm trying to figure out how to boost and extend the WIFI signal to that furthest point in the backyard, which is several hundred feet away from the house.  An Airport Extreme doesn't seem to provide that distance level of extention, unless I bought two, but that would require one of them being outside to cover the distance I'm trying to get to.  I'm contemplating purchasing an Amped Wireless Repeater and range Extender that advertises 10,000 square feet extention, but the reviews on the device are mixed.
    Any input would be appreciated.

The major difference between the two versions is that Generation 2 and higher products allow simultaneous dual band wireless operation.
Your Time Capsule will produce either a 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz network, but not both simultaneously. Since you have iPhones connecting to the network, you are using the 2.4 GHz band.
Most of your newer devices are capable of connecting at the much faster 5 GHz speeds, but if you set your current Time Capsule up to operate at 5 GHz, the iPhones and iPod will not be able to connect.
A newer version Time Capsule produces both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal simultaneously, so faster devices would connect to the 5 GHz band and slower devices connect to the 2.4 GHz band.
That being said, there is also something to be said for leaving well enough alone. Your call.

  • What is going on with our lines?

We have two lines into our property.
Two weeks ago the main line went faulty at Friday, and it took BT/Openreach until Wednesday to fix it.
Today, the other line is dead, just like the Monty Pythin parrot. That one also carries broadband into the property. So result is no broadband and no phone line.
First off, the foreign lady I spoke to could not understand that the line was not working (just like Monty with the parrot), because it tests OK, there cannot be a fault.
Anyway, after 37 minutes on the phone, I finally get the message through.
The line rings out if you try to ring it, but it is totally dead at the socket.
The foreign lady cannot get an engineer until Monday, or possibly Tuesday or possibly Wednesday. I think I undertsood her to say eventually Monday am.
But then she tells me there will be a charge of £99 for the repair!.
Why should I pay BT for the poor service (six days without phone or broadband) and then pay on top for them to repair THEIR network?

What constitutes within the confines of the property?
If it is anything inside of the BT box, there is nothing, there is only one socket, but what about the wiring outisde the building to the pole.
It would be cabling, wiring, sockets, connection blocks.
If they have been damaged by rodents, trees, hedge cutters, lawnmowers then you may well be charged for the repair.

  • BT have wrecked our trees!

BT were due to do some work on poles and cables which run through our property, the tree surgeons have been and have totally wrecked our trees.
This happened on Monday 23rd August, despite phone calls and e-mails it seems our situation is being ignored.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
I have gone through the BT websites and there seems to be no easy way of lodging a complaint, who should be contacted?
The pole and cables were put here about 40 years ago, we were living here at that time but we have no formal written agreement or contract with BT for the poles and although we did take a one off payment no paperwork has ever been issued (as far as I am aware). Do we have the right to deny access to BT until the problem is solved?
Any help and advise would be appreciated.
    All the best

Have a look at BT openreach website www.openreach.co.uk there is a contact us link, you can raise a complaint there using the other option.

  • Poor BB Speed - possible faulty cabling?

    Hi Everyone,
I moved house 2 months ago and have had BB speed issues since moving - best speed between 200 and 500 kbps.
I live about 150 to 200 metres from the exchange, on the same road and can see it from by bedroom window - BT's website states an approximation on the speed of 21Mbps, some difference!!
My ISP won't pass the issue to Openreach as they state my BB connection is stable - they don't seem concerned about the speed, and I know if I report a line fault myself I am going to be charged £££ as the phone line is working ok.
I have already replaced the bottom half of my (very old and very yellow) NTE with an adsl filter one - BT fitted one of these in our previous house, that has made no difference, nor did removing the internal extensions and connecting the modem/router via a dangly filter to the test socket - I left it like this for a week.
I have been doing some investigations and the cable to our house from the pole (there is no green box on the road between my house and the exchange) seems to be shared with our neighbour - it's hooked up to the wall of the house near the gutter where there is a small black box underneath - 2 cables come out of this, one of them ours. Our cable is visually much older than the other neighbours - the neighbours cable is black and seems to be the same type of cable coming across from the pole, our cable is brittle and light grey and has 2 halfs, like very cheap bell or speaker wire (certinally not twisted pair by any imagination!) and runs right alongside the mains power coming into the house - both cables are running alongside each other for about 5 metres. This cable then comes down to the front door, and in behind the door fram - behind the door inside there is a very old looking bt connection box - brown in colour and oval in shape - in here is a rats nest of cables and what look like screw connectors and fuses!?! - the cable then leaves this (on much newer looking cable) along a short run of the skirting before going into the NTE in the kitchen, the modem/router is connected direct into the NTE (on the adsl port obviously!)
I am convinced that it's this poor cable and the old joint box that is causing the issues? - How would I go about getting BT/Openreach to replace this if my ISP will not report it to them, and my phone line (for voice) is working?

'the cable to our house from the pole (there is no green box on the road between my house and the exchange) seems to be shared with our neighbour'
The cable from the pole to the property will either by a drop wire 10b, which has two pairs in it, i.e. enough wires for two line or a CAD55 cable, which is a four pair (4 lines).
'our cable is brittle and light grey and has 2 halfs, like very cheap bell or speaker wire'
That sounds like a drop wire 6, 6 as in its from the 1960's. Actually its not called drop wire 6 because of that but it would have been there since the late 60's or early 70's.
Anyhow, the only people who can replace that are Openreach and they have a policy of; 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'.

  • HT4557 We have a wired in network in our house, we also have an apple airport for use with my ipad/our ipods/iphones, etc.  Can we use home sharing if our desktops do not have wifi?

    Hi,
this is my first time on the support board, so hopefully I'm doing this correctly.  We have 3 desktop computers in our family, which are wired in with ethernet cables.  We also use the cables with our laptops (we have various connections throughout the house)  I have an iphone, and an ipad, my boys have ipod touches.  I purchased an airport router to use when I'm using my ipad, etc.  The boys and I would like to be able to share apps that we have purchased.  I'm wondering if there is a way to use home sharing in our situation.
    thanks!

  • Follow up to web services question:  How do I expose java components as web services on iPlanet 6.0 app server?

My task - my company has several legacy PowerBuilder applications that access a variety of Sybase and MS SQL databases. Rather than re-inventing the wheel by re-writing these applications in Java, we would like to enable these applications to call java components (EJBs) that will provide new functionality. I would need a piece of software called CSXtend (from www.cynergysystems.com) to allow PowerBuilder to call a web service. However, I am not sure how to expose my business functions (EJBs) as web services on the iPlanet 6.0 App server. Thanks for all previous responses! Any additional info would be greatly appreciated! Mike

I have used Glue (http://www.themindelectric.com/products/glue/glue.html) to expose some of our stuff as Web Services. I recently found this on serverside. It's pretty good.
    http://www.theserverside.com/resources/article.jsp?l=Systinet-web-services-part-1
I believe that the middleware they use can be plugged into IPlanet. There is also an article in the knowledge base on the IPlanet site.

  • Mophie iPhone 5 Case - iPhone will no longer charge using the apple cable.

    Hi All,
In July, I purchased a Mophie Case for my iPhone 5. Everything was going great until I realized a few months later that my iPhone would no longer charge using my apple cable. It would only charge using my mophie. Turns out my husband, who also has a mophie case, was experiencing the same issue, my case is the mophie Juice Pack Air and my husbands is the mophie Juice Pack Helium Battery Case. Later I was telling this to a friend at work and she mentioned having the exact same this happen to her phone after using a mophie.
I contacted mophie, not to try and get anything, just to let them know and see if they had any ideas.... well they were not receptive at all. They said,  "I do not think that the juice packs could have done that to your phones. I would need some sort of objective evidence." I said that multiple customers experience is evidence, to which they said "I need objective evidence. Simply because a person thinks they know the cause, doesn't mean they do. If there was an Apple engineer saying that it was the cause...heresay does not constitute solid evidence."
So yeah... apparently a customer calling to let them know their experience is meaningless to them. So I am turning to the apple community. Has anyone ever experienced this with there mophie. Any ideas why this may have happened? We have only used the cord that came with the case and apple cables on our phones.
Any info you have would be appreciated.
    Thanks so Much,
    Jamye

Mophie was not denying that you had a problem charging your phone. What they were telling you was that what you don't have is proof that the mophie case caused the problem. It might be, it might not be. As the saying goes, correlation does not prove causality. What troubleshooting steps have you taken?
I used first the mophie Helium and then a mophie SpacePak on my 5S without it imparing my ability to charge it with my Apple cables or other lightning cables (Belkin car charger). And I've known many other people who haven't had a problem.

    Hi all,
I have one Entity attribute, which has to be Mandatory for all new, not yet commited row; but it is not mandatory_ for any others, existing (in the database) row. How to acquire this ?

You might need to write a validation method to achieve this:
    check if:
    getEntityState() == Entity.STATUS_NEW or Entity.STATUS_INITIALIZED
To show * mandatory indicator on the UI, you could use the above property exposed via some bean property/VO transient attribute...

  • Video Cable Ripped ...Help

I've noticed that my Video cable is ripped on one side. Can this be fixed or does it need to be fully replaced? Does anyone know the part number o where I can order from?

it's likely just the black plastic covering the exposed cable and not the cable itself.   if your system is under warranty then it would be best to have service replace it.   otherwise, it may not be something to be concerned about.
if your system is no longer under warranty then you'll need to post the machine type and model number found on the bottom of your system to help determine the cable part number your system uses.   if it's a CTO model then post whether or not you have bluetooth.   please do not post your serial number.
there are various hardware maintenance manuals to help guide you through the process of changing the cable.   you can also visit the service training site to watch the process on video.
    in any case, good luck!
