Extend Setup

Hi
I am new to coherence and trying to set up a .NET client for coherence.
I have configured my client and server. When my server starts up it does state :
2013-11-20 16:47:20.177/7.941 Oracle Coherence GE 12.1.2.0.0 <Info> (thread=NameService:TcpAcceptor, member=1): TcpAcceptor now listening for connections on 10.3.215.68:8088.3
Furthermore, I checked 'netstat' and my server is definitely listening on :10.3.215.68:8088
TCP    10.3.215.68:8088       0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING
When trying to connect, I get the following error:
could not establish a connection to one of the following addresses: [10.3.215.68:8088]; make sure the "remote-addresses" configuration element contains an address and port of a running TcpAcceptor
below is my server coherence-cache-config.xml

any help would be appreciated.

Reset your AX and use Airport Utility, the new program that came with your new extreme. It walks you through the extending network process. Good luck.

  • How do I use an Airport Express as a "range-extender" for Airport Extreme?

I bought an Airport Express with the intent of using it as an "extender" for my Airport Extreme, but I find no paper that describes how this is done. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks and cheers, Veit

Thanks for the info. Try this to see if it will do the job for you:
    _On your AirPort Extreme (AEBS):_
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the *Wireless tab* below the row of icons
Your *Wireless Mode* should already be set to “Create a Wireless Network”
Make sure there is a check mark next to “Allow this network to be extended”
Note the setting for Wireless Security as you will need this for the next setup on the AirPort Express
    Update to save changes
    _On the AirPort Express (AX):_
Hold the reset button in on the AX until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly
Temporarily, move the AX near your computer and connect a short ethernet cable from your computer to the AX
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup.
Click the *Wireless tab* below the row of icons
*Wireless Mode*….should be set to “Extend a wireless network”. If you don’t see this choice, hold down the option key when you click on the selection box
Wireless Network Name…the name of your main AirPort Extreme network should appear as a choice. Click to select it.
Place a check mark next to Allow wireless clients
Wireless Security….exact same setting as your AEBS
Wireless Password…exact same password as your AEBS
    Confirm Password
Click the Base Station tab to assign a name and device password for the AX, set time zone, etc.
Click the Music icon to enable AirTunes if you wish
Update to save settings. You can disconnect the ethernet cable and move the Express to the desired location.
For further reference, Apple's instructions for the "extend" setup appear on pages 43-44 in the Apple AirPort Networks Guide.
Please post back on your results.

  • Can't get Xbox 360 Media Center Extender to work

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.  This is a retail copy.  I had previously set up Windows Media Center and successfully set up my Xbox 360 as a Media Center Extender.
After a long hiatus of using Windows Media Center, I went to watch a movie in my media library through my Xbox 360.  It would appear to initially connect and then show the Windows Media Center loading screen and say "Contacting..."  After about 30 seconds, it would display an error asking me to make sure my Windows Media Center PC is turned on (it is).  I ran the Windows Media Center network test in the Xbox 360 and it tested fine.
I attempted to delete the Media Center Extender in WMC and set it up again, but it always fails with an error "An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this Extender" at the part where it says "Configuring your Extender".
I looked in the Event Viewer under the Media Center section and found event ID 543:

I also tried turning off the Windows firewall on the Windows Media Center PC, but this had no effect on the outcome.  I also tried deleting the Microsoft Windows Media Center Extender Host certificate and restarting the Network List Service, but these steps to did nothing to fix the issue.
I am using the same computer with the same NIC with the same Ethernet cable with the same SOHO router (Linksys WRT54GL) with the same Xbox 360.  Any advice would be welcome at this point.

  • How do I know "Roaming Network" is working with Airport Express and Airport Extreme and should I use extended wireless network for third Express?

Attempting to eliminate a dead spot in Wifi coverage [and implement AirPlay] have one Airport Extreme 802.11n and two Airport Express 802.11n's.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4145
The Airport Extreme is of course connected to cable modem and Ethernet switch, and one Airport Express is connected to the Ethernet network. As per instructions for creating a "Roaming Network", Airport Express is set to same SSID, security type, and Password.
    Questions:
    1. How does the client device know which Airport to connect to? In other words, will it switch to the closer WiFi transmitter automatically? The WiFi reception problem is intermittent in the fringe areas so what I do not want it for it to stick with the more distant Airport Extreme in the basement when the Airport Express which is closer will work better.
    2. How can I tell which of the Airports the attached client device is using?
The third Airport Express will be in a third location - I was planning on using it also for expanding coverage but after reading the warnings about performance suffering when purely using WiFi for the expansion in this location ("Wireless Extended Network" without an ethernet connection) I have figured that the single wired Airport Express will be adequate and will use the third Express to do Airplay only.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259
Question: Can I use this second Airport Express to extend the wireless network via "Extended Wireless Network" while the other two are in "Roaming Netowrk" configuration? Without bogging down??
    Mitch

    1. How does the client device know which Airport to connect to?
The Mac computer will automatically connect to the wireless access point with the strongest signal...which is probably the closest AirPort. An iPhone or iPad may not do this and will tend to stay connected to one AirPort.
    2. How can I tell which of the Airports the attached client device is using?
On a Mac, open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility. Click on one of AirPorts. In the area to the right, locate the AirPort ID and jot that down. Then do the same for your other AirPort.
Move your Mac near one of the AirPorts and log on to the wireless. Hold down the option key on the Mac while you click the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen. Look for the BSSID. That is the AirPort ID of the device to which you are connected.
If you are close to the "remote" AirPort, and you see the AIrPort ID of the "main" router when you are testing, then you know that the network is not configured correctly.
Can I use this second Airport Express to extend the wireless network via "Extended Wireless Network" while the other two are in "Roaming Netowrk" configuration? Without bogging down??
There will be a modest 10-15% bandwidth loss with the "extend" setup, assuming that the Express is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from the AirPort to which it is associated. You can avoid the bandwidth loss if the Express is also connected via Ethernet as part of the roaming configuration.

  • Airport Express extending Time Capsule network causes network failure?

I have a 1GB Time Capsule used as my 'main' wireless access point for my home network. I purchased an Airport Express for use about halfway through across the home so that I could play iTunes music in that area... no problem. That works. However my office is also right next to the Airport Express.
So if the Airport Express is -not- plugged in I have a great signal from the Time Capsule and things work without a hitch. Once I plug the Airport Express in, every 20~30min my MacBook Pro shows I have a full-power network connection, but it wont actually do anything. I have to turn off the MacBook's wireless, then turn it back on... then again it only works for a short while. If I unplug the Airport Express this is no longer an issue. :/
So I know the Airport Express is part of the issue. But also, I know it must be setup correctly since I can go all the way to the back of the house and have a network connection [when normally without the Express I would not have a connection at all]. Clearly it's extending the network.
Any ideas why my MacBook might be getting 'stuck'? I'm relatively new to Apple gear, but long time PC user and very skilled with networking... but never experienced anything like this... but also this is the first time I've ever extended a network.
Open to any suggestions... thanks all!

    Welcome to the discussion area!
Something is wrong, whether it's an incorrect setting or a defective AirPort Express because the "extend" setup normally works very well. I've gone 3-4 months with no problems at all since I added an Express last fall and the network is up 24/7.
Check to make sure that your MacBook is actually connecting to the AirPort Express (AX) as follows:
Open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Express and note the AirPort ID for the AX
Hold down the option key on your computer and click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen and you will see details about the connection. You should see the AirPort ID of the AX. If not, you are not connecting to it.
You can also check a few settings using AirPort Utility to see if the Time Capsule (TC) and AX are setup to "extend".
    For the TC:
Click Manual Setup and click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode should be "Create a wireless network"
There should be a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    For the AX:
Click Manual Setup and the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode should be "extend a wireless network"
Network Name should be the name of the TC network
Check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
Security and Password settings are the same as the TC
    Is that what you see?

  • Is It Possible To Extend An Extended APX?

I currently have two APXs: One serving as the base station and the other which serves as a repeater. My question is: Can I add a third APX to repeat the repeater? My house is very long and the tail end barely gets a signal.
    Vlade

If you have your current remote AirPort Express set up to "extend a wireless network", it is not possible to further extend that device. The "extend" setup works like the hub and spokes of a wheel. You main base station is the "hub" and each "remote" resides at the end of spoke. The "remotes" communicate directly to the "hub", not to another remote at the end of another spoke.
It is possible, using a WDS configuration to setup a main, relay and remote, but this operates only in wireless "g" mode, and with a relay and remote in the setup, you would lose 75% of the bandwidth on the entire network. In effect, you would have a "g" wireless network operating at only 1/4 speed, so I doubt that the tremendous performance loss would offset the small amount of additional wireless coverage that you might pick up.
You might be able to use a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to provide a pseudo ethernet signal to a distant AirPort Express if your "main" base station is connected to another router. One adapter would plug into an AC outlet near the router and the other adapter would plug into the wall in the area where you need more coverage. The AC wiring in your home transmits the ethernet signal.

  • Double-Extended Network with two AX - Possible?

I am in a large apartment with lots of concrete walls. I use a Time Capsule (500G) connected to a cable modem to access the internet, and have two AX set up to extend the network twice. No. 1 is in a hall way and serves to extend the network into the living room. No. 2 is in the living room and serves as my iTunes connection to my stereo. I can stream wirelessly through No. 2 to the stereo, but my Internet connection (and presumably my streaming music) are routed through No. 1, even though I am sitting in front of No. 2.
Both AX are set on "Extend a wireless network" mode, and the network is on 5Ghz.
I have played with various settings on both AX, but cannot get my MBPro to connect to No. 2. Any thoughts? Can it be that two AX can not extend a network twice, serially?
    Ed

Unless you have some unusual obstructions in place, your MBP should normally connect to the Express that it is closest to. Check your "extend" setup carefully as it is easy to make a mistake or forget a check mark on a configuration that can make all the difference.
In AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Wireless tab, your TC must be setup to "create a wireless network" and there must be a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
For the Express devices select the unit you want to check and use the same Manual Setup > Wireless tab to check the configuration of both units. Wireless mode should be "Extend a wireless network" and there must be a check mark next to "Allow wireless clients". AirTunes is active by default in the setup.
Check pages 43-44 on the AirPort Networks Guide...link is on the home page of the forum....for a step by step guide on setting up the "extend" feature.
Using your MBP, hold down the option key while you click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen and it will show you the MAC address of the device that you are connected to.
The important number in terms of bandwidth is Transmit Rate. You want it as high as possible. Experiment with a few different Radio Mode settings to determine what will give you the best Transmit Rate. It's possible that a 2.4 GHz setting may be better than a 5 GHz setting. It just depends on the construction of the home and number of obstructions in the signal path.

  • Why are my Airport Expresses not extending my network?

I have an AirPort TimeCapsule connected to the Internet.  It provides wifi perfectly within about 20 feet.  I purchased two Aiport Expresses to extend the network. The airport expresses are set up with Network Mode = "Extend a wireless network", with the goal of having wifi available farther than 20 feet from the Airport time capsule.  According to the Airport Utility on my iMac and on my iPhone, this configuration is working perfectly.  Everything is plugged in and all the devices are showing green lights in Airport Utility, all in one daisy chain (airport timecapsule is connected to express 1 which is connected to express 2).  There's only one problem:  I get no wifi connection when I'm about 4 feet away from the airport express which is farthest from the time capsule.  The Airport Express has a green light, but I have no signal even 4 feet away from it.  It seems as if the Expresses aren't doing anything.  My wifi is still only available within 20 feet of the airport time capsule.  How can I be 4 feet from an Airport Express that has a green light (which is also displaying green in Airport Utility) and yet have no wifi?

You may not be aware that you can only "extend" one time.
Apple's extend setup works like the hub and spokes of a wheel.  The Time Capsule would be the "hub" and each extending device resides at the end of a separate spoke.
The extending device at the end of the spoke communicates directly to the hub.
You can have additional extending devices, but each one connects directly to the hub.....not to another device at the end of another "spoke".
If your display in AirPort Utility displays a "chain", the last device is NOT extending anything.
In order for both of your Express devices to be working correctly, both of them will display as connecting directly to the Time Capsule. Both Express devices will be displayed on the same horizontal line side by side with dotted line connections to the Time Capsule.
Ideally, your Time Capsule would be located in a central location, so that each extending device would be located about the same distance from the Time Capsule.
If you have an AirPort Express closer to another Express that it is to the Time Capsule, it will connect to the Express....just as your display likely indicates.

  • DMA2100 can't get setup key - Windows 7- 64 bit

I have two DMA2100s, one wired and one wireless, which have been working without problems for several years. I have just bought a new PC running Win7 64bit, and neither of them will connect. They are both connected to my network, but when I try to set them up on the new PC they both get as far as the 'Extender Setup' screen - when they never get any further than the message 'Communicating with PC...' No setup key ever displays, so I'm stuck! I've tried turning off Windows Firewall, but that doesn't make any difference. Any thoughts anybody?

    Hi Steve,
Are you trying to setup the extender wired or wireless? Perhaps, you can try to do a hard rest on the device using the pinhole at the back and try to setup it wired to your router first then make sure it gets an ip address and you`re able to ping it.
On the WMCPC, add the extender, follow the setup wizard and press the green button on the extender`s remote then follow the instruction. if it fails then try  to go to Event Viewer on the PC, check the Event ID errors logs and search for
fixes on the microsoft website. Windows 7 is supported provided that all patches are up-to-date but some of its funtionalities are limited.

  • Bridging and/or extending 2 wireless routers connected to 2 different modems?

I am begining to think this is not possible but wanted to clear this here before I gave up.
    In my network
I have my base AirPort Extreme connected to a modem at one end of the house.
I have an airpot express which is extending the network and connected to a speaker for playing music. ( not really pertinent)
At the other end of the house, I have another Airport Extreme connected by ethernet cable to a different modem.
What I am starting to realize, if this is correct, is that #3 is not actually using the ethernet connection to boost the signal. Its simply extending my base Airport Extreme. As shown below. Is this right?
I'm curious to know if I can keep #3 connected to that modem and/ or bridge to the other router to create a roaming network? Basically, I am trying to optimize my signal with the second connection to the modem. Diagram below illustrates this.
I have been searching for a while with no success and wondering if someone has tried this or if its simply not possible. I am aware of bridging that utilzes the same modem. However I want to use a different one as illustrated above.
Thanks for any and all help.

As it stands now #3 is extending the network.
But it is not, because it can't....even if it did not have a modem connected.
You can only extend an Apple network one time. The AirPort Express is already doing that. It is not possible to have #3 extend the signal again wirelessly.....even if you wanted to do that.
If you located #3 about the same distance from the main AirPort Extreme.....and closer to the AirPort Extreme than to the AirPort Express....then it could be setup to extend the network wirelessly.
Apple's extend setup works like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your "main" AirPort Extreme is the "hub". Other extending devices are located at the ends of separate "spokes".
Each extender must connect directly to the hub......not to another extender at the end of another spoke.
So, the ideal setup would have the "main" router (hub) located near the center of your home.....and then other extending devices could be located in different directions (spokes) around the perimenter or outer areas of the home.

  • Wds vs extend

    simple question guys,
would it be better for me to use the wizard in airport utility and just do extend network or manually create a wds network??
    using 2 airport extremes

just noticed though that one is 3rd generation and the other is the 1st generation.... which one shall i use as the main?
Since the 3rd Gen is simultaneous dual band, I would suggest that you make that the "main" and the 1st Gen the "extender".
by the way, i need to extend the network about 70 feet...
Remember that the "extender" can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives. In general, you would want to locate the "extending" Extreme about mid way between the main router and the area that needs more coverage. Try to minimize obstructions like walls or a ceilihg as much as possible.
As far as WDS settngs, you would only want to use that type of setup if there were no other options. Fortunately, you can use Apple's "extend" setup, which provides much better performance.

  • Extending Network Question

I have just set up my network of time capsule's, and airport's, what does the chain of different bases mean, can I change it?

The Bedrom AirPort Extreme and Piano Room AirPort Express are both "extending" the wireless signal wirelessly from the Basement Time Capsule.
The Living Room AirPort Express has "joined" the wireless network signal provided by the Bedroom AirPort Extreme, but it is not "extending" it, or providing any additional wireless signal coverage in the Living Room.
When the Express "joins" a wireless network, it can be used for Airtunes, or you could connect a USB printer to the device.
In order for the Living Room AirPort Express to "extend" the signal from the Time Capsule, it will need to be about the same distance from the Time Capsule as the Bedroom AirPort Extreme or Piano Room AirPort Express.
The Living Room AirPort Express also needs to be closer to the Time Capsule that it is to either the Bedroom AirPort Extreme or Piano Room AirPort Express.....if you want the Living Room AirPort Express to provide more wireless coverage.
When the Living Room AirPort Express is set up to "extend", there will be a dotted line between the Time Capsule and the Living Room Expess, and you will see 3 devices on the graphic, all connected to the Time Capsule.
The reason behind all this.....Apple's "extend" setup will only allow you to "extend" a signal one time. You can have multiple devices extending a signal, but each extending device must connect to the main router....the Time Capsule in your case.

  • Can't set up Range Extender AC1200

And the reason is so stupid I'd like to kick the guy who created the set up process in the groin!!  The software walks you through the steps but it doesn't have and option to skip the 5Ghz set up.  I have the 5G disable on my router, I have no items that use 5G so I don't need it but the AC1200 expander doesn't allow you to skip this process it just keeps looping asking for the password to the 5G so I never finished setting it up to see if this product was any good!!
I also have the AC connection on my router disable because I have no AC equipment as well, it makes me wonder if I as able to get that far if it would have run me in circles again!
Easy set up my **bleep**, none of your info covers a disable section of a persons router nor does it tell you how to use and iPad to connect.  For those who wonder simply go to your wifi selection under settings and switch it to Linksys Extender Setup, it will be there as if it's a network.
So screw you linksys, I will not waste my time resetting my router just so I can deal with your software.  If your so blind as to not allow a person to skip and unnessacary step which ends up requiring them to reset the extender just to access the same mess again and again then your products are not for me!!   FYI - I will be exchanging your product for one that you simply press the WPS button on the router and the WPS button on the extender and your up and running.

I wouldn't let me do this, it would just keep going back to where I was on the 5Ghz setup and looping even after unplugging and using the reset button on the extender. If it would have I doubt I would have been so PO'ed.
I think the only option would have been to go into my router and turn everything back on, 5Ghz, AC but I wasn't going to go to that much trouble just to set up the extender and then have to go back and change everything back to my liking.  Once I entered my Router information in the extender set up everything should have been good to go, but it wasn't, so much for easy set-up.

  • Final Advice For Extending Network Needed

Bob Timmons has helped me greatly here and I hope this may be the last time I'll ask these questions! I purchased a new AEBS to connect to my cable modem. I believe that I was getting significant interference from the many 2.4GHz networks in my community resulting in some erratic wifi behavior and download speeds. I set the AEBS to broadcast differently named 2.4 and 5GHz networks. My imac, MB Pro laptop, ipad and AppleTV2 all connect to the 5. Only our iphones now use the 2.4. As expected the 5N network has a weaker signal but the apparent lack of interference has completely stabilized the wifi connection on those devices and my download speeds on my laptop are identical on wifi or connected directly to the cable modem. So that has been a major improvement.
However I'm thinking I might be able to improve the signal strength of the 5N network in the area that the devices are mostly used. The AEBS and cable modem are in a third floor bedroom while the devices are on the second floor. This doesn't affect the computers much but I get quite different download speeds on my ipad when I'm downstairs as opposed to when I'm upstairs near the AE. I'm not sure what the affect is on the Apple Tv, I don't know how you would measure download speeds on it, but I do see that the signal strength indicator has dropped a bar. So my thought is to use my Airport Express - the 1264 model - to wirelessly extend/boost the signal on the floor where all these devices are.
There is a spot in my dining room on the second floor that is just below the bedroom that the AE and modem are in that seems to get a pretty strong signal from both the 2.4 and 5 network. I used iStumbler to check this in several locations on that floor. So my thought is to place the AX there. From the advice I've been given and what I've read this is how I plan to configure everything and want to check if I have everything correct.
On the AEBS I would check allow this network to be extended. On the AX, wireless mode set to extend wireless network. I believe from that setting I'll be given a choice of networks or maybe have to manually enter the name of the one I want extended. I intend to extend the 5N network so I would use that specific name and the same password that is used on the AE. I believe I've read that there will be no option for channel selection as that would be controlled by the AE(?) I'm not certain what Radio mode would be, perhaps that is automatically set as well. Wireless security would be the same, I'm using WPA2 personal. I'm not sure what the connection sharing option would be with this setup, perhaps 0ff( bridge mode ).
Are there any other settings I need to be aware of? Also since the network name will be the same on the AX as the AE and channels I believe will be the same is there any way to know which base station a device is connected to? I know I could open up Airport Utility and check wireless clients on both to see this but it would be nice to be able to this from the menu bar of the computers. Perhaps the BSSID would tell me that. The reason I would want to know this is to be able to see whether my download speeds are maintained through the AX with this set up. If they were negatively impacted I might forgo the whole thing and just leave things as they are.

Suggest that you move the AirPort Express (AX) close to your AirPort Extreme for the configuration setup. Once you have it set up, you can move it to the desired location. It may take some experimentation to find the best location for the AX.
On the AEBS I would check allow this network to be extended. On the AX, wireless mode set to extend wireless network.
    Yes, that is correct.
I believe from that setting I'll be given a choice of networks or maybe have to manually enter the name of the one I want extended. I intend to extend the 5N network so I would use that specific name and the same password that is used on the AE.
When you click on the Wireless Network name box, you should see the 5 GHz network and 2.4 GHz network displayed. Click the 5 GHz network to select it.
I believe I've read that there will be no option for channel selection as that would be controlled by the AE(?)
That's correct. The AX will use the same channel as the AEBS automatically, so you will not even see a setting for Channel on the AX setup.
I'm not certain what Radio mode would be, perhaps that is automatically set as well.
Yes, this is set Automatically to the same Radio Mode that the AEBS is using for the network that you are extending. You will not see a setting for this on the AX setup.
Wireless security would be the same, I'm using WPA2 personal.
Correct, same setting as the AEBS.
I'm not sure what the connection sharing option would be with this setup, perhaps 0ff( bridge mode ).
There will be no selection for Connection Sharing displayed on the AX setup. The AX is automatically configured in bridge mode when you select the "Extend" option.
The "extend" setup is quite simple in AirPort Utility. Here are the basic steps:
    AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Base Station tab to name your device, establish a device password and adjust Time Zone settings
    Click the Wireless tab:
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Name of your 5 GHz network
Check mark next to Allow wireless clients.
Security = Same as your AEBS
Password = Same as your AEBS
    That's it.
is there any way to know which base station a device is connected to?
Yes. Open AirPort Utility and click on your AEBS. Look for the AirPort ID in the info to the right and jot it down. Do the same with the AX.
Move your laptop close to the AX. Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the fan shaped Airport icon at the top of the screen. Look for the BSSID. That should be the same as the AirPort ID of the AX. If you see the AirPort ID of the AEBS, then the computer is connecting to that device, not the AX. Check your setup again if that is the case.
    Good luck!
