Failed to fetch libelf

Ok, so I'm a newbie on Arch, but I've been using Linux for three years so...
My issue is that gnome-extra won't install via pacman. It failed to fetch the package libelf:
:: Retrieving packages from extra...
error: failed retrieving file 'libelf-0.8.10-3.1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz'
.easynews.com : Not Found
warning: failed to retrieve some files from extra
error: failed to commit transaction (unexpected error)
Errors occured, no packages were upgraded.
Ok, I presume this is an error with easynews.com. First off I wgetted the source code for libelf 0.8.10, compiled and installed it, but it still gives me this same error. Probably not installed in the right path or something.
So now I'm wondering, how can I switch the mirror that pacman uses? Or how can I install libelf from source but in the right path?
TIA

Thanks for the info. Yes I know about the edit button, but I overuse it on other forums so I just made another post. It can get a bit cluttered, so I'll always edit from now on (what I used to do).
I can google this, but do you recommend any good UK mirrors?
In Ubuntu (my native distro, arch is in a vm), there's two official mirrors that I can see, the main one and the UK one. They never seem to have broken or missing packages, so I haven't had to worry about package mirrors yet.
How do I go about making pacman see that I already have it installed? In Debian (well, Ubuntu), I haven't had this problem. It seems to recognize all software in the /usr or /usr/local directories. I didn't think Arch would be very different, but it seems there are quite alot of things that are done in slightly different ways.
Thanks alot
PS. I have GNOME up and running, but it doesn't have all the standard software that comes with it, ie because I couldn't install gnome-extras.
PPS. I think Arch is a brilliant distro as you can basically do what you want with it and it's MUCH less bloated than Ubuntu. But Ubuntu is suited to both geeks and average Joe's if you ask me (not saying I'm an average Joe, I am certainly a Linux geek!). I might try resizing my Linux partition and making a small partition just for Arch so it doesn't have to run in a VM.
EDIT: I tried another mirror and it failed again, with the same package. Is this package obsolete or something?

  • Failed to fetch dNIPDNSZones from DNS_LOCATOR_OBJECT

    I am unable to provision DSfW after installing it. The Provisioning PreCheck is successful, but the Configure DNS portion fails.
    It looks to me as though the installation did not create a DNS Locator object in eDirectory. It seems as though we had some old ones floating around from years past.
    We currently do not use Novell DNS for DNS. The zone is hosted on an Active Directory domain controller. After clearing out all of the old DNS objects from eDirectory, I would like to retry provisioning DSfW. However, I cannot seem to reinstall, uninstall, or provision.
    Is there a way to manually create the DNS Locator object that DSfW is looking for, or is there a way to remove and reinstall DSfW.
    The documentation does not say that I need to be running Novell DNS in eDirectory. Do I have to have an existing Novell DNS installation?
    Thank you for any information that you have about this. Here is an excerpt from the log:

    Hi Dennis,
    We brought in logic to utilize the existing Locator Object based on the customer feedback and DNS restriction.
    The DNS Yast page indicates you on which locator context that is being picked, by default it is "ou=OESSystemObjects,<Domain NC>" if there is no pre-existing locator objects. Now if you need locator object in new context, I'm worried, you will have to redo the installation to get a cleaner installation as it is two stage process and many back-end files for DNS configuration are generated at Yast stage.

    DSFW doesn't support this. It can co-exist with AD only by means of trust and it doesn't support any other means of co-existance like being Child domain to AD domain or Additional Domain controller to AD domain. The zone being hosted on an Active Directory domain controller for DSFW domain is not supported.

    Yes you can do it by using dns-maint and make sure you create the locator object in the same old locator context. You can get the old context that DSFW is looking for from following file.
    frd:~ # cat /etc/opt/novell/xad/xad.ini | grep DNS_LOCA
    DNS_LOCATOR_OBJECT = cn=DNS-DHCP,ou=OESSystemObjects,ou=frd,o=novell
    frd:~ #
    Make sure you have following objects, and if you notice, the DNSSERVER object is must and it will always exist in ou=OESSystemObjects,<DOMAIN NC>. Hope you have not deleted the DNSSERVER object by mistake.
    DNS_LOCATOR_OBJECT = cn=DNS-DHCP,ou=OESSystemObjects,ou=frd,o=novell
    DNSDHCP_GROUP = cn=DNSDHCP-GROUP,ou=OESSystemObjects,ou=frd,o=novell
    DNSSERVER = cn=DNS_frd,ou=OESSystemObjects,ou=frd,o=novell
    Or you can reach out NTS and get access to our domain removal tool and re-attempt from fresh.

    Please review our Administration Guide, your first domain controller must to be running Novell DNS in eDirectory by default. There is no choice.

    There is no need to have an pre-existing Novell DNS for configuring DSFW, DSFW will bring in a DNS server by default.
    Hope this helps you resolve your issues. If not, request you to reach to NTS or re-attempt a fresh install. Suggest, not to mix your domain installation with Active Domain Controller and get into issues.

  • Failed to fetch metadata

    I have NW2004S trial version installed without any problems.
    But when dragging a webservice into an iView I have the message ´failed to fetch metadata´. and Portal request failed due to: ....
    I have created DynamicWSProxies in visual admin according to the how to consume enterprise services using VC guide.
    FU2_800 with url: http://erp.esworkplace.sap.com and FU2_800_METADATA with url http://erp.esworkplace.sap.com/sap/bc/srt/wsil

    Hi to all of you,
    I hope you didn't miss the configuration of the proxy settings for your WebServiceProxies:
    1. Go to Visual Admin.
    2. Go to Server->Services->Web Services Container->Settings (on the bottom tabs)
    3. Set the proxy settings (if you have such).
    Restart the WS connector by:
    1.Go to Connector Container->sap.com/com.sap.portal.connectors.ws
    2. Stop and start the connector (using the stop and start buttons on the top toolbar).
    If this still doesn't work, I'd set the WS connector's log level to "ALL" and recreate the problem. The traces are very good and can give you some idea why the connection is broken.

  • Mirror error? pacman failing to fetch xorg/alsa etc.

    just did my second install of arch and pacman fails to fetch xorg and alsa etc. saying error: failed to open file /var/lib/pacman/(filename) I have no idea whats going on here, frist install worked fine. the only thing i can think of is maybe the mirror isnt working, I used ftp@dal, canada. any help is very much welcome

    OK, this was a very small step in the right direction: you posted the error ... but was that the actual error?  Did it really say 'file A' from mirror A, or is that a shorthand you are using?
    Either way I also asked for you to post your mirror list so we could see what you have done to it.  I'm quite confident now the error is in your mirror list and/or pacman.conf.  IF you post those files (the actual content of those files, not a description or interpretation of them) then and only then will anyone be able to help you.
    how can i when i have no software installed? yes that is shorthand. and currently its failing on all files. i can hand type all these files in but it will take some time. if im missing something because im new, please say so.

  • Failed to fetch metadata from web service

    Hi,
    I am trying to use a webservice in a model. My web service system is defined as http://<server>:50013/?wsdl
    and i can find the web service in the find data tab.
    When I drag the webservice to my model story board I get the following error message:
    Failed to fetch metadata
    Portal request failed due to: Operation {0} not found
    Any help is highly appreciated.

    Solved it. I tried to drag the data service directly into a layer. That did not work. When I drag it on to the storyboard and move it to a layer afterwards it works correctly.

  • IPhone failing to fetch POP email from GoDaddy.

    For the last 2 weeks (since the upgrade to iOS 4.0 and now 4.01) my iPhone has been failing to fetch POP email from GoDaddy (pop.europe.secureserver.net). Email fetching worked fine when the phone was on 3.1.3, and continues to work fine with 2 Macs running OS X 10.6.4 talking to the same server. However my iPad on 3.2.1 also fails to fetch from this server.

    - Deleting the account and re-creating it didn't help
    - Restore to factory defaults (painful) didn't help.
    Anyone got any insight, or ideas for things I can try to force it to work? Having no email on my phone is a bit of a deal-breaker.

  • SQL Query fails with Fetch error

    We are running JDE ERP 9.0 and have a report that gets this error
    “JDB3300020 - Fetch not allowed. Prior successful Select operation required for this request.”
    I’ve been troubleshooting this problem for months, and I am no closer to the root cause and need some help. I’ve engaged Microsoft support, we collected a trace but could not find anything that pointed to the cause.
    Execution details:
    Report runs successfully after database server is rebooted. Otherwise we have to keep rerunning as many as 15 times to get a successful run. When we discovered that report would run after the server reboot, we decided
    to only restart SQL, to see if it was Query plan related but it still failed. How can we determine why the reboot is making a difference?
    Any ideas/help is welcome.

    Using Profiler to capture what JD Edwards sends to SQL Server seems like a good idea. And include the events Error:Exception and Error:UserMessage to see if that captures anything.
    I googled on the message, and I found
    http://www.jdelist.com/ubb/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=111077&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=
    where the cause was that different indexes were used for SELECT and FETCH. (Whatever that means; I was not able to grasp it.)
