Failure to open links using window.open (applies to FF17 and FF18, works ok with FF16 and below)
Hello,
As mentioned, this only started happening with FF17, and repplicated with FF18. FF16 tested ok, and below.
This is the HTML code involved:
<pre><nowiki><a target="resource11" onclick="this.target='resource11'; return openpopup('/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=43','resource11','resizable=1,scrollbars=1,directories=1,location=1,menubar=1,toolbar=1,status=1,width=620,height=450');" href="http://myschool.education.loc/lms/mod/resource/view.php?id=43"></nowiki></pre>
Notice the call to openpopup() function, which has this code:
<pre><nowiki>function openpopup(url,name,options,fullscreen) {
fullurl = "http://myschool.education.loc/lms" + url;
windowobj = window.open(fullurl,name,options);
if (fullscreen) {
windowobj.moveTo(0,0);
windowobj.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);
windowobj.focus();
return false;
}</nowiki></pre>
When clicking on the link on FF 17/18, I get this error and the popup does not open:
Error: NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIDOMJSWindow.open]
Seems like a bug?
Thanks
Do you have a real working page with this code?
I do get a pop-up/tab opening with your code, get a server not found error.

Wrong paper size in office 2007 word using windows 7 64 bit. solution does not work oj6500
I have tried using all three HP solutions using word 2007 on a windows 7 64 bit wireless and keep getting paper mismatch error.
I am using standard #10 envelope and have selected envelope in both word print tab and also under the mailings tab under envelope. I can do nothing but cancle print. I have also tried "plain paper" but still get the mismatch. HelpHi,
Please try to insert some PDF files from Insert tab --> Object --> Create New --> Adobe Acrobat Document
In addition, make sure Adobe Reader is the default application to open the PDF files.
If the issue persists, please try repair or reinstall the latest version of Adobe reader and check this again.

addition problem with Mozilla is that it would often take many reloads to get a site to open.I have my HP 855c/driver working on Win 7 Ultimate x64. I used the 'printui /s' procedure and 4 files described above with some minor changes.
I pulled WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB914961-SP2-x64-ENU.exe down from the Microsoft website. Running the file causes the exe to unpack into a temp folder at the root drive. A 'Setup Error' message box is displayed once the file is run. I left this
message box up until I copied ntprint.inf, ntprint.cat, and sp2.cab from the temp folder.
I copied driver.cab from a Windows XP Pro disc. I also needed amd64\stdnames.gpd which was already in my Windows 7 c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 folder.
I created a folder with the 5 files (ntprint.inf, ntprint.cat, sp2.cab, driver.cab, and amd64\stdnames.gpd). This is my 'Have Disc' folder.
I followed the 'printui /s' instructions, first changing the permissions mentioned above and then installing the driver. Next I followed the instructions to add a printer from Control Panel 'Devices and Printers' - 'Add Printer', choosing to 'use an existing
driver' when installing the HP 855c.
I used a slightly different ntprint.inf, size 1570418. The readable contents of ntprint.inf is as follows. Notice the line 'CatalogFile=ntprint.cat' is not included. I tried using the 1570468 version of ntprint.inf; when I did I received an incompatibility
message (probably the same one mentioned above).

I've tried the "FIX IT" on the Microsoft website but it did not fix it. I've been in touch with my anti virus software company who assure me that their product cannot block hyperlinks. I've gone into windows folder options/ file types to check settings but they seem OK. I'm now wondering if a seting in Firefox could block the hyperlinks.
Hi,
Many thanks to those who took the time to reply. I use Firefox as my default browser to search the internet. I use Outlook Express to download my emails. Some emails have hyperlinks. When I place the cursor over a hyperlink a (very long) web address appears at the bottom of the window but clicking on the link does nothing. I have searched the internet for possible solutions. One was that the problem was caused by my anti virus software blocking the hyperlink. My anti virus software provider excluded this. Another related to a possible problem in windows XP control panel/folder options/file types. I checked this and all was OK. A website suggested that my browser may be causing the problem. Firefox itself is my default browser and is working OK. My question is "can a setting (or something else) in Firefox block the hyperlinks in Outlook Express from working''. The problem occurs in Outlook Express but the hyperlinks have to work via Firefox to open the links which are web pages (accessed via Firefox).. -
When I go to some websites (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=335893426565493) for one, I get a white screen where the flash video should be displayed. I can hear the audio just fine. Right-clicking on the white area brings up the settings menu and the video can be seen dimly in the background. The video drivers are up-to-date. I have uninstalled the flash player, emptied all of the suggested folders and re-installed Flash with exactly the same results. I have disabled hardware acceleration with no change as well. I have also tried compatibility mode to no avail.
Going to the Flash websites, I can see all of their animations and the boxes that show the currently installed version all show correctly.
Any suggestions?Chrome uses a separate and independent plug-in than IE does.
IE is ActiveX - Chrome ISN'T.
Chrome is PPAPI - IE is NPAPI.
The ActiveX plug-in is in C/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash and C/Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash - PepperFlash is in C/Program Files (x86)/Google/Chrome/Application/[version number]/PepperFlash.
The trouble with IE in general is that you need to disable ActiveX filtering for most everything, which leave the browser vulnerable to attacks. ActiveX Filtering in Internet Explorer
The trouble with IE11 is "User Agent Strings".
Microsoft "rewrote" the User-Agent Strings for the abomination they call their latest and greatest browser (Read more here).
User-Agent Strings are what websites use to identify the browser you're using and provide the proper content for it's browser engine, like ActiveX stuff, and Flash or HTML5 video.
Thanks to the geniuses in Redmond, WA, the User-Agent Strings for IE11 (which has a Trident engine), ID it as either "Gecko" (Firefox) or "Webkit" (Chrome).
Trouble is: when the site the directs to the content for one of these two engines, the Trident engine in IE can't interpret it and the site then sees IE as an "unidentified" browser.
The problem with an unidentified browser is that the plug-ins in that browser aren't recognized either, so even though you're up to date, it says you need the latest Flash Player when you use IE11.
YouTube... has converted to HTML5 video so if it doesn't detect Flash Player, it can display HTML5 (MP4) video which requires no plug-in to play.
Facebook can't do that, because HTML5 doesn't apply to games... only video.
Microsoft has no plans to "fix" the mess they've created because they think it's a great idea to block you out of the websites you visit.
They recommend using "Compatibility View" and pretending that you're using an older version of IE...
The Problem with THAT is that it's seen limited success, and you have to enable it for EVERY page that has problems... individually.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
Firefox (from Mozilla)
Opera (from Opera)
Safari (from Apple)
Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that, because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in. -
Everything worked fine until I was closing my webmail session, and Windows Live said I was not logged out - I had to delete cookies and close all other tabs. I did this, andWindows Live then said I had to enable cookies to log out. I checked my settings, and cookies are enabled (custom settings for history, "accept third party cookies" and "keep until"l are set). I even closed out of everything and did a restart, but no luck. It all works OK in IE still, so it's not the school website's problem. (But I don't want to use IE)
Everything was fine until I deleted cookies - I have always ignored the message about closing Windows Live before - I just didn't today...See "Hang at exit":
