Family member upgrade question answered by a cust svc rep

Ok, here is my situation, which I am sure applies to a lot of people here on the forums.  My wife is eligible for an upgrade on her line (has been eligible for upgrade since 2008), I am eligible for an upgrade on my line only by calling and ordering through vzw customer service or by physically going to a vzw store.  I will be eligible to upgrade through verizonwireless.com on Sep 2011.  I am planning on preordering the iphone at 3am est like most of you are.  Spoke to vzw customer service rep and he informed me that I can preorder iphone on my wife's line (since she is upgrade eligible right now) and once I get the iphone, call customer svc and have them activate the phone on my line.  Has anyone had this done before with another phone?  Just want to make sure this is possible

I received the same answer from 2 different reps on the phone before I placed the order.  However, I received the iPhone today and there is no 800 number to call to accept the terms and conditions.  I called customer service and was told that the phone had to be activated on the line which it was ordered on and then I had to call customer service back to have it switched and activated on the other line.  Both the old phones and the iPhone have to present when this is done.  So, now I am waiting for the other person to get home from work with the phone so I can start the process.  What a hassle!!!

  • Family Plan upgrade question

I currently have a family share plan with 5 lines.  None of the 5 phones are smartphones.  2 of the lines/phones currently have the $10/month unlimited data package (LG Voyager phone).  Our 2 year contract expires in May 2011 but we can upgrade now if we want.
Is it possible to do the following:
Upgrade one voyager to a smartphone and pay $30/month data package
Upgrade the other voyager to a non-smartphone and keep the $10/month data package
Upgrade one of the other lines to a non-smartphone and have the $10/month data package
Upgrade the other two lines to non-smartphones with no data package
We were in a store and it was difficult to get a clear answer.  It seemed that once one phone goes to the $30/month data plan then all other phones must have a $30/month plan as well.  Also, they implied we could no longer be on the same family share plan (700 minutes, unlimited text).  Perhaps I mis-interpreted what they were saying.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ahhh, the old Connect/Select plan, where you could get the unlimited on 3G phones for $10 a month....unfortunately, those days, and that plan is long gone.    Our 2 year contract expires in May 2011 but we can upgrade now if we want.
Is it possible to do the following:
Upgrade one voyager to a smartphone and pay $30/month data package  Yes.
Upgrade the other voyager to a non-smartphone and keep the $10/month data package  No.  The new plans/phones do not allow this.  Your plan will be changed to the current Talk & Text (equivalent of the Select) with unlimited texting on all lines.  You can add a $10 data package for a feature phone, but it will have a limit of 75 MB.
Upgrade one of the other lines to a non-smartphone and have the $10/month data package No - same as above.
Upgrade the other two lines to non-smartphones with no data package Yes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure that' s what you wanted to hear, but it is likely what you will be facing.  There's a possibility you can keep what you have if you get all feature phones, but upgrading any of the lines to a smartphone will force a plan change to the Talk & Text, since the smartphone doesn't play nice with the old Connect/Select plans.

  • Using a Family Members Upgrade, Question on the Process

I plan to pre-order the phone on my brother's line since he is eligible, he's away at college though. When I swap the ESN's or whatever, will I need any info from him or need him to get involved at all? Or can I just do it all myself?
Also, my brother doesn't have a data plan..so how will that work?

When you are on my verizon click transfer upgrade on your brothers line to yours...you have to have account acess though.  Do you have a data plan?  iAll that matters.  If not just purchase it on check out.  They will ask.

  • Using a family member's upgrade eligibility

Here is my question.  I am not eligible for an upgrade until November 2011 and I am the secondary line on a family share plan.  A family member who has a completely different family plan from mine is eligible for an upgrade now.  Can he purchase the new IPhone for his line and then switch back to his old phone and give me the new IPhone?  If so, what would be the best way for us to go about doing this?  Thank you for any feedback!

Thank you for your inquiry and the suggestions from our valued community members. Adding to what was stated, anyone who upgrades to the iPhone would need to activate it via iTunes. The upgrading line's voice mail box will be deleted and then needs to set up a new voice mail box.  The saving of the information of the voice mail prior to upgrading to the iPhone is suggested unless it is not needed. When doing an upgrade on a line, it will have the new 2 year agreement regardless of giving it away.
The one who wants the iPhone on their line will repeat the process with activating it via iTunes with their voice mail box being deleted and re set up just like the first line that upgraded performed. However, once the voice mail box process has been completed on both lines, one after the other during the activation process it does not need to be done again on either line. As far as the warranty, when giving selling your phone to another, the warranty is voided and is not able to be transferred.

  • Upgrade eligibility extended after old device transfer to another family member

In July 2013, I transferred an almost 2 year old device from one family member to another(a son). The eligibility for upgrade at a discount on his account line was then extended by a year following the old device transfer to his account line even though the device was not new, to him or to our account.  I do not understand how or why this happened.  I also don't know if I am asking this question in the correct place to get a response and corrective action from Verizon Wireless.  The link to email customer support on the My Verizon login site has apparently been removed.  Thank you for any assistance or help you may provide.

You've come to the right place, MMBrown26. I'm confident that I can help you. I will need to take a look at your account. Please follow me (ChaunceyM_VZW) and send me Direct Message. If you include your wireless number, I will review your account and contact you. Thanks in advance.

  • Hello.  I just bought my first Imac.  Each family member has created an account.  My question is: can each account/family member create their own imesssages, so that each family member can imessage privately?

Hello.  I just bought my first Imac.  Each family member has created an account.  My question is: can each person use imessages privately when logged into their account?  instead of everyone seeing everyones imessages?  is there a way to do this?

I believe the short answer tot that is "yes" however I recommend you contact AppleCare to find out You have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support when you buy any new Mac. This is the ideal time to begin using it. I'd also recommend that you purchase AppleCare, it will extend your 1 year warranty to 3 years and offer you 3 years of telephone support in addition to other services. You can locate the correct phone number in your part of the planet (Calgary, Canada??) by clicking Contact Apple for support and service

  • I upgraded to an iPad2 and recently pulled out my old iPad 1to re-gift to a family member. I can't remember the password I originally set up - is there a way to get beyond this?

I upgraded to an iPad2 and recently pulled out my old iPad 1 to re-gift to a family member. I can't remember the password I originally set up - is there a way to get beyond this?  Each time I try a different password (trying any that I thought I might have originally used) it times out the tablet for up to an hour before I can try again.  Help?

You can restore the device. That is what you have to do if you forget the passcode. You don't have to worry about syncing to your own computer either since you don't want to restore your data - you want to wipe it clean. Read these articles for more instructions

Sometimes you may not be able to bypass the passcode at all when you try to restore. You may need to restore by putting the iPad into recovery mode. I have heard from some users that they did not have to do this when they restore after forgetting the passcode - but just in case you need the information, this will help you with that procedure.

  • Taking a Family Member's Upgrade

What is the process for switching with a family member's upgrade date? Can you get the phone immediately after switching?
    Thanks

    Hi AJF07,
Great news! You are ale to complete an alternate upgrade online, without having to first activate the phone on a different line. Please note that the contract will still be under the line that the upgrade was completed for, but the device can be activated on the alternate line right away.
As a registered "My Verizon" subscriber, you have the ability to upgrade a wireless phone online using the upgrade eligibility for your line or any qualifying line on your account. Please keep in mind the wireless number that uses its upgrade eligibility will be the line that renews its Customer Agreement. To process an alternate upgrade online, please sign-in using your Account Owner Number and password via the following link and follow the instructions below:
    www.verizonwireless.com/signin
    1.        Click on "Upgrade” icon located under “Device” in the “I Want To” section at the bottom of your home page.
    2.        Once you are at the "Upgrade My Phone" screen, please follow the steps below:
    3.        Choose the wireless telephone number(s) to upgrade. If you would like to upgrade your wireless phone using the eligibility of another wireless number on your account, click on “Transfer upgrade from another line” link.
    4.        Select the line from which you would like the upgrade transferred and click “Continue.”
    5.        Browse through the different phone options, and once you have decided, left-click on the device of choice.
    6.        Next, click on the icon that reads “Add to Cart”.
    7.        Follow the prompts to choose any Accessories and continue until your order is complete.
I hope this information is helpful, have a good day!

  • Can't log in with a family member ID

    Dear all,
I'd have a question about family member log in to iCloud.
I own a mobile me family pack account which I upgraded to iCloud. Master account works great on my Mac. I have troubles using family members accounts.
I made the same operations for upgrading to iCloud with a family account. I can sign in and read my email with Safari, I got Apple's confirmation that my member account went to iCloud. I have problems when I try to log in with it. If I enter ID and pass, Mac says, in the iCloud preference pane "Unrecognized Apple ID or password." Then a window saying "You can't sign in at this time. Try signing in again." I also noticed that Mail app doesn't work
Any idea??  I thank you in advacne for your kind collaboration
    Regards
    Fabrizio

if you already have one iCloud account signed into in System Preferences>iCloud, you can add additional accounts but not there - you enter them in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars. This will enable you to access email, but you can't sync Calendars and the rest of it with any account except the one you signed into first, the 'Primary Account'. If you want to use another account fully you would have to create a new user account on your Mac and sign in there.
Incidentally, if a Family Pack sub-account has been successfully migrated - as appears to be the case - it's an iCloud account like any other: the fact that it was once a sub-account isn't relevant, so don't let that confuse you.

  • IPhone5 Preorder Family Members Upgrade

    Hi all,
As everyone knows the iPhone 5 is now available for pre-order, only problem is I have one more year till I can upgrade for the price of $200 with my carrier AT&T.  However, a family member of mine has an upgrade and said I could use theirs, so that is the route I am considering.
    So my question is...
Could I order a new phone online, imputing their number as the phone to be upgraded and when it arrives just put my sim card in it?? Will it work like that or do I have to go to an AT&T retail store and do it?
Any help will be great, Thanks
    M

  • USING OTHER FAMILY ACCT UPGRADE AND TRANSFERRING TO MY PHONE #

    Sharing Upgrade Question
    Hi all,
A family member was eligible for upgrade 1/20/11 we are on different accounts.  He has a simple standard phone but i wanted to get another phone he has let me use his upgrade which changed his plan  to include a data plan.
in order to actually order the phone  I wanted which i know can later be changed back to his original plan.
What steps are going to have to happen for me to activate the new phone under my phone number?  Does he have to do it under his contract  and is this going to require having to call CS? If he does call CS can he just let them know he decided to give me the phone and let me activate in under my phone number?
I know this void the warranty..
    Thanks
    Have a nice da!

Do i have to have both phones in my possession in front of me.Your family member (with the upgrade) will need to have his phone and the iPhone with him.  First, he will activate the iPhone on his line to accept the terms of the contract.  He MUST do this, or he could be charged full price for the phone.  Once it is activated, the contract has been accepted, so he can then re-activate his old phone on his line.  Re-activating his old phone will release the iPhone to be used on another line.
Do i have to call into CS? If i call into CS can't I just let them know he didn't want the phone so i want to activate it to my phone number instead. You do not have to call into CS.  Dialing *228 and choosing option 1 will put you into the automated activation system.  If your activation has a problem, you will automatically be connected to CS so they can finish the process.  You CANNOT call CS and tell him "he doesn't want the phone."  As the account owner, HE has to accept the 2-year contract by activating the phone on his line first before it can be used on another line.
The thing is I won't have his phone availabe to me as i will be at work and he will be somewhere else. You don't need to have his phone, but he does need to have the iPhone briefly to activate it on his line.  Then he can give it to you to activate on your line.
Sorry for all the confusion but if i can transfer and have the new phone that i ordered with me while temporaily activating it then transferring it over to my number while the family member has his phone whereever he may be would be great if not i will have to wait to activate it when all the phones can be together. Thank you every1 that has responded and sorry for all the confusion.

  • Can different family member accounts share an address book in iCloud?

we have a primary mobileme account which is now set up in icloud.  we have a family pack with a secondary family member account set up for my wife's business email.  This secondary account now also has its own icloud account that we set up.  Works fine.  The question is this - when my wife is logged in to her icloud secondary account and looking at her work-related emails, how can she access the addresses in the address book that is linked to the main icloud account?  She is usually working from a PC so it's not a matter of just looking at the local copy of the address book.  She needs to log out of the secondary icloud account, log in to the primary, look up the address, and then go back to the secondary account to send the email from her work email address.  Too cumbersome.  And icloud does not seem to like having two instances of icloud running at the same time on the same computer.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks -
    Joel

  • Using a Family Members upgrade

Ok so i know this has been asked before and I think I get the gist of it. I currently have the Dinc and am giving it to my bro for his upgrade. My Dinc has insurance and unlimited data. I know I will have to activate it on his line before mine. My question is if I choose to add insurance (and of course the data plan) to his line, will the phones both still have valid insurance even though they switched lines?

  • Getting a new Mac: need to transfer files/applications, have external hard drive, and wipe clean old Mac to give to family member

Getting a new Mac this Christmas. I have several questions:
    1. How do I transfer files/applications from old to new?
    2. I have an external hard drive, do I need to save iTunes account to it?
    3. How do I wipe the old Mac clean to give to family member?

    1. Use the Migration Assistant the first time you turn on the new computer.
    2. No, but you should do so as a backup.
    3. Click here and follow the instructions. If the computer originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, when you reach step 5, insert its original disk, restart with the C or Option key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS.
