FCP adding frame on layoff to Digi

I'm suddenly having a problem laying off to tape from my machine. I'm running FCP 6.0.4 with an AJA Kona 3 card. Basically what's happening is every time I lay anything to tape (digi beta or HDCAM) 1 frame gets added to the beginning of my slate throwing everything down the line off by one frame (2 pop is at 00:59:58:01, program starts at 01:00:00:01) I have been using the same setup for about a year with no problems, and now everything is off by one frame. Any ideas??
-Eric

Nothing has been added to the path and no changes have been made to the deck. Also, I have tried 2 different digi's and one HDCAM deck with the same results. The strange part is, it's always off by one frame. If I take one frame off the beginning of the slate, so that everything down the timeline starts one frame late, then it is correct. So, it seems like FCP is adding one frame at the very start of the layoff.

  • FCP adding random frames to my exports

    so here's my problem
i exported my sequence using "export with current settings"
but when i do i look at the export and there are suddenly random frames thrown into the cut
i thought, 'man i must have not watched the cut before i exported'
so i went back and looked at it, it looked fine, those frames are NOT in my sequence
to absolutly make sure i went to the same part in the sequence where the added frame was on my export and went frame by frame to make sure
there aren't any random frames in the sequence only the export
i have tried exporting through QT conversion too and it still added those random frames
why can't i export without those frames?
    i'm working in FCP 6.0

so i opened my original scratch media in QT and exported then deleted the old file that was giving me trouble
then when i open my project, fcp is asking me to reconnect

  • Premiere Adding Frames in Render

    Hi,
So here's the backtracking of what I did:
Edited my footage in a sequence in normal size.
I wanted to make it widescreen, so I made a new sequence in 1920x810.
I then copy pasted my edit into the new sequence and started rendering.
The render window kept adding frames to render, and the percentage jumps and very slowly adds 0.1% into the progress.
I tried choosing a smaller amount to render, same problem still persists.
Why does it now want to render normally? Why does it add frames to render all the time? Wheres the problem?

    Hi Jim Simon,
I was told that 1920x810 is the standard RED Wide format. So I wanted my 5d video to look the same as the RED wide.
"When a commercial widescreen movie is mastered for distribution on Blu-Ray disc, it's rendered at the full 1920-pixel width of the FHD format. Due to its wide aspect ratio, however, the movie's height covers only about 810 pixels of the 1080-pixel height of the screen, with upper and lower borders letterboxed. This 1920x810 frame is the native size of widescreen Blu-Ray video."
And also I really don't think that the sequence size would matter to render the project.

  • Background Color When Adding Frames - PSE8 or PSE9

When adding a frame to an image, the background color that is outside of the new frame, and which borders it, always comes up white for me.  Can that area be made to come up another color, and if so, how?  Thanks!

Hi,  I understand that, but what I really want to do, and perhaps I didn't express myself clearly, is select a background color other than white and have it come up as the default color until such time as it's changed.  Thanks!

For the background, you can either choose any background from the content panel or
choose any color from the color palette
    select Paint bucket tool
Click on a New layer icon in the layer's panel with Control/Command pressed.
Click on the white area around the frame.
the area is filled with the color selected.

  • FCP Adding two frames to Starting Timecode change in Sequence Settings

Hi I am trying to change my starting timecode in my sequence to 09:58:00;00 but FCP keeps adding an extra two frames to make it start at 09:58:00;02 - my sequence is in DF. I am changing this by going into Sequence Settings > Timline Options > Starting Timecode. Anyone else have this problem? It's awfully frustrating - perhaps a glitch?

IF you ripped to DV NTSC, it should have come in as DF.
What are the specs of the Digibeta material?
Are you delivering on Digibeta or as a QT file?
Is your client asking for a master beginning with 09:58:00:00 DF starting timecode? You could set the starting timecode for 09:57:29:00, then add an additional second of black at the head of the timeline. The client is most likely needing DF timecode for 'show timing' purposes...is this to go to broadcast?

  • Premier Pro is adding frames in the beginning of the video

    Hello guys,
I have the following problem with Premier Pro.
    1. Several videos with different frame rate (24 fps and 30 fps)
    2. I create new sequence 24 fps
    3. Import videos to project and set them all to 24 fps via Interpret Footage.
    4. Now I am adding video to sequence, but Premier is adding 3 frames in the beginning from totally different video.
    What is that?
Record of my screen is here
Adobe Premier adds 3 frames in the beginning of the videofile | Screencast-O-Matic - Free online screen recorder for ins…

I'm not sure why or how PPro is inserting frames from a different clip. But before digging into that, it might be worth exploring why you're using Interpret Footage to change the frame rate. In case you're not aware, Premiere Pro manages mixed frame rates automatically, so you don't have to do anything if you want the 30fps clips to play at normal speed in a 24fps sequence. In fact, changing the frame rate changes a clip's duration and playback speed.

  • Need Help Adding Frame to FLA File

    Hello,
I am  trying to add a photo to a Flash file that we had created for  us:
    http://www.catalinasouthbeach.com/locations.html
I am kind of sort of new at Flash. I can edit these files but  I can't  figure out how to add a new photo. I thought you could just  add a new  layer but that's not working. Can anybody shed some light on  this for  me?
    http://www.catalinasouthbeach.com/photo/production.fla
    Thank you!!
    Allie

If those images are arranged in a timeline, then you should be able to add a new one by adding a layer and extending any other layers that need to be.  To get the fade effect you will need to create either a graphic or movieclip symbol of the image and use that in the timeline, not the raw image that you import into Flash.
Youe best bet will be to study what you currently have and see how each keyframe (dotted frame) has some significance (assuming whoever did it knew what they were doing).  Some folks go crazy with keyframes.
If the design uses actionscript code to make the images work in and out, you'll need to show your code so that someone might be able to figure out what needs to be changed to add a new image.

  • FCP Dropped Frames Freeze Up

Gurus, I've had a bad day, and I need your collective wisdom. FCP 7.0 S2 is up on two machines -- the 3-yr-old MacBook Pro and the brand new Mac Pro 8-core. I have a five-minute inspirational video to show in church today with a lovely 6K lumen DLP projector onto a 12-ft screen. It is great! I generated the timeline on the Mac Pro with an external G-Tech 800FW HD. Smooth as cake. And then I took the HD with this timeline to the MacBook Pro and took it on the road to the church with the brand new Matrox MX02 Mini box generating HDMI. In three showings: the system ceased to to a dropped frame stop everytime. Argggghh! Now I get that the MacPro octo 8-core whiz-bang water-cooled home machine is bigger, but the MacBook Pro is not underpowered -- 2.33GHz C2D Intel with nothing else running but the FCP timeline. It's a 2 track video/6 track audio simpleton timeline. What did I do wrong here? What's harder/more reliable than running the FCP timeline in real time?

I can't do your work for you. I do a great deal of research and testing on any job that involves a new workflow, format, whatever.
    However,
Try this. Export a selfcontained qt with sequence settings. Create a NEW project in fcp, and import this selfcontained qt. This will probably play just fine. When you are playing your timeline of an edit out of fcp, fcp has to access media from all over the place and perhaps even attempt real time rendering. Exporting a selfcontained qt and playing it may solve your problem.

  • FCP Dropped Frames on HD Capture - No Warnings

    Hi,
I've been having a devil of a time capturing HD video on my Mac Pro (specs below).
I'm capturing about 45 minutes of video from a MiniDV HD camcorder (Sony HDR-HC5). Not sure what camera shot the footage. It seems that every time I capture, FCP creates more than one file, and in every case there is a gap of missing frames between the files. The shot is continuous (no tape stopping) for that entire length of time, which is why I expect to see only one file. There is no file size limit on the capture, and the time limit for capture is 64 minutes - well exceeding the footage duration.
Each time I try the capture the breaks happen at different times in the footage. Sometimes near the start (within a few minutes) and in other cases after 27 or more minutes. The breaks later in the capture seem to be short bursts of 1 minute or less then the capture settles down and goes continuous.
I'm thinking a process or bus thing that happens at some interval, but I've shut down all applications except FCP after a fresh boot. I also unmounted and disconnected all external drives on the Firewire ports. The USB drives are unmounted but not disconnected. I've also disabled Time Machine.
My capture drive is an internal SATA drive formatted as Mac OS Extended (no journaling) and was freshly wiped, formatted and restored - so all space should be contiguous.
Any ideas welcome. I can recapture over the gaps and piece the footage together - but I shouldn't have to. This should work.
    Specs and tech details:
Machine: Mac Pro (2x2.8 GHz Quad Core Xeon), 10GB RAM, 360GB AND 100GB internal SATA
    Mac OS X 10.5.7
Capture volume: Internal secondary SATA freshly formatted
Capture Setting/Easy Setup: Apple Intermediate Codec, 1080i60 (failed also with the 1080i60 HDV setup)
I've tried the capture with iMovie '09 with the same split file result. I've had one tape capture in tack, but have not been able to duplicate that experience.
    Any ideas are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Sean

I'm finding that although random, I think the issue is the camera or tapes, though I'm not sure why.
Watching the video on capture, I see the video on the camera monitor pause though I hear the tape continue and then it seems to catch up. At that stage FCP create a new file. I've inspected the tape at these places and it seems fine. It also seems to play fine again once I reinsert the tape. It may or may not pause again later in the playback. I've seen this pause with and without capture happening.
Now I'm looking for ideas on how these tapes might exhibit this issue. Is this my camera (which is very new) or a tape issue (but 3/4 tapes seems a high percentage). Anyone with experience with this or anything I can check to provide more data to debug?
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • Media manager adding frames

i'm trying to export 4 layers of video (rough composite layer, blue screen layer, matte layer and background layer) with media manager. i need to send these shots to compositors to make the final composites. i'm using media manager because it seems like the easiest way to give them what they need as separate files. i want to create new quicktimes of the shots in my sequence at exactly the same length as they appear in my edit (no handles).
when i try to export with media manager, the sequence that it creates is the same as my sequence but the quicktime clips that it creates are not. media manager has somehow added 4 frames to the head of the clip on layer 1 and 9 frames to the head of layer 2. i need for the compositors to be able to line up the layers by just lining up the heads of the shots.
    my media manager settings are:
-"copy media referenced by duplicated items"
-"include master clips outside selection" is NOT checked on
-"delete unused media from duplicated items" IS checked ON
-"use handles" is NOT checked on
-"include affiliate clips outside selection" is NOT checked on
-"base media file names on existing file names"
-"duplicate selected items and place into a new project" IS checked ON
-"include nonactive multiclip angles" IS checked ON
footage and sequence are: AJA Kona LHi: 1080psf 23.98 Apple ProRes 422
any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    thanks.

    Hi Brian,
    Thanks for replying.
I am working on an animation edit. The clients send us a master QT with audio. I export the audio for animation lipsync, the animators then send me QTs with the audio I have exported embedded within them. The clients have the original audio and have requested that the QTs we send back contain just picture.
The delivery specs state I need to send a project and media to the client.
There are no audio clips in my timeline apart from the QT sent by the clients. In my edit I add our animations above the client QT and send the sequence. Before, when I was using QTs with audio I was not cutting the audio into the sequence just using the audio from the master QT the clients sent. My new QTs (with no audio) are being dropped onto the timeline on a higher video track but when I export them they add '-v' at the end which does not fit into the clients naming convention.
I hope that made sense, any help is greatly appreciated.
    Tom.

  • FCP Dropped Frames

I know this has been posted many times, but I can't seem to fix the problem.  I have my video that I shot with my Canon T2i, which was transcoded to Apple ProRes 422 (LT).  I've used Final Cut many times using those settings and the T2i...  I first thought my 2nd internal hard drive was failing (where the media is stored), but then I plugged my G-Drive which connects through FireWire 800 (and which I've used before) and launched a project I finished and I still had the dropped frames problem...  I trashed FCP preferences...  I seem to get the dropped frames less if I restart the mac, but after 10 minutes the problem starts to reoccur...  If anyone knows what else I can try?
    Thanks,
    Zevie

Make sure you have a minimum of 10% free space on all drives and considerably more on your startup drive.
Here are a list of troubleshooting tips that may help
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2591
In particular, I'd run diskutility:  repair disk on all drives and get and run diskwarrior on all drives.
Try disconnecting all peripherals besides keyboard and mouse and one media drive and also turn off airport and disconnect ethernet.
Also, try creating a new user in system preferences:  accounts.

  • AME adding frames upon P2 footage conversion

I currently use AME to convert raw P2 footage into a more manageable .mov file type. As I am archiving old Premiere Pro files, I am going back and replacing the P2 footage with the new converted .mov footage (to shrink down project file size). Occasionally and on a random basis, the converted .mov files will have extra frames added to the front end. It will be anywhere between 2 & 20 frames. (Usually this is done by folders- for example if I have a folder named cat video, all clips in that folder will have 10 frames added at the front end while the dog video folder clips might have 15 frames added.) This adds time to my archiving as instead of just replacing the footage in P. Pro, I have to import the new footage, find out where the cuts are supposed to be at and then put the .mov file into the sequence before delete the raw P2 file. Is there a reason AME adds frames at random?

If you are trying to export and maintain the same quality you have in the timeline then you don't need to use conversion. Just export to Quick Time Movie and check the box for Use Current Settings and Make Self Contained.

  • FCP Dropped frames warning

when i play back my timeline i get a dropped frame warning in red that tells me i need to increase my disc speed or decrease my RT layers. i am working on a G5 dual 2.5 with 4 gigs of ram and over 600 gigs of space. The project is less than 2 minutes long and freezes up my computer when i try to export it to a quicktime movie. does anyone know why this is happening? i have done a clean install of FCP in hopes of fixing this problem but so far nothing has changed.

    I get a similar problem.
If I play the timeline no problems, will play the whole programme, but if I pause midway, then play again I inveriably get the dropped frame message almost immediatly. Can happen anywhere in the timeline !!!!
Only using dv and one or two layers !!!
Quad G5, latest FCP and Quicktime, bags of internal drive space, media on external fw 800 g raid, only quarter full.
    Very frustrating.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

  • FCP Freeze Frame for Menu Background

    Forum,
I'm trying to use a freeze frame from FCP inside of DVDSP, but the image looks warped. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
    Workflow:
Freeze Frame in FCP>Export Quicktime Movie>24p Pulldown Removal/Encoding for SD DVD (Best Quality) in Compressor>Import Asset into DVDSP>Warped image.
The Freeze Frame looks fine in FCP, but not in DVDSP.
    Any clues?
    Thanks,
    Trey

Hey, I got it working. All I had to do was drag from my asset window to my canvas or whatever DVDSP calls it.
Don't ask me how I was putting on the canvas the first time - very new to DVDSP. Anyways, it's working now for some reason.
Oh, yeah thanks again for the Japan Loop. I haven't tried to use it yet but I'm going to try later tonight hopefully.

  • Adding frames in a slow-motion scène

    Hi
I slowed my video down to a speed of 5% using the speed option & then I used the motion blur option to soften the transitions between the frames a bit. Its still kind of messy I think, is there a filter or anoption that adds new frames so the slow motion results in a more gliding image then a bumpy looking one?
    Thanx
    O.H.

Go to Video Filters under Effects, select Time and then Trails. Should do the trick.
    Good luck!
