Fcp preset: pal 1024 x 576 anamorphic

Dear Great Experts.
Is there a preset in fcp for widescreen 16.9 anamorphic for pal? Or what elements would one incorporate for such a preset.
Broadcasting over the internet.
Greater details if needed:
I don't know much, but will tell you what i do know, and probably alot will be unnecessary to tell, but I would need to be more of an expert in this area to edit what I will be writing here...lol, thanks so much:
We make animations, or slide shows movies in After Effects in a 1024 x 576, Preset: Pal D1/DV Wide Screen Square Pixel, Pixel Aspect Ration: Square format.
Then render with output module settings in After Effect using: 'stretch' to 720 x 576, locked to 5.4 aspect, Pal D1/DV, which squishes the final movie horizontally, as you can see. This is to get, as I understand it, the anamorphic element needed (for the method in which it is broadcast, ie, thru Airbox and Octoshape).
Then it is compressed with Compressor: This setting unsquishes it horizontally putting it back into a 16.9 ration, but in a smaller size, 720 x 405, and makes it into a special type of mpeg 2 format which is called a 'program stream' for broadcasting over 'Airbox' which the viewer also has a choice of using 'octoshape' for viewing. This puts the video and audio together as 1 element.
Would like to bypass After Effects and just do movie in FCP with an output that will accomplish the above (see summary below too). I assume that the compression with Compressor will still be necessary to get the specialized mpeg 2 format need for the 'airbox' broadcasting.
Summary: Would like to produce a fcp output that allows for the 1024 x 576 size, pal widescreen, anamorphic and then can be compressed to the special mpeg 2 program stream which ends up with the 720 x 405 (16.9). Know how to make preset, just need to know what elements to incorporate for the preset.
Side Note: We are told we need to start out with the larger size of 1024 x 576 for better quality. Our video dept would prefer that we start out with HD size of 1920 x 1080 but our equipment cant process files that large, so video dept said ok to do the 1024 size.
Ok, Wow, if you are still with me, I thank you a million times over and wonder what you think?
Lots and lots of thanks dear ones,
With most sincere thanks,
Hope

Dear Nick,
Thank you for this timely response and explanation. Appreciate you taking the time to answer this.
Am using fcp 6.0.6
Are there certain settings that I could make/change to structure a custom preset to accomplish this?
Thanks again...

  • 1024 x 576

I have to set up a DVD for PAL to be played on Plasma... Could anyone tell me if 1024 x 576 is the right pixel size for this?

That is the correct "square pixels" size. If you give a movie of that size to iDVD to make a PAL DVD, or to Compressor for compression as PAL, it will convert well to 720x576 anamorphic as posted above. Remember 25fps too.

  • Exporting an avi out of premiere cs4 from a tiff sequence (1024 x 576)

Hi i would be so greatful if someone could inform me of the correct setting becouse at the moment the avi i export seems to not be wide enough.
I have a tiff sequence renderd out from after effects at 1024 x 576 and set to square pixels. i am required to then take this into premiere and render out as a microsoft avi with the compression set to none. i also need to add a sound file to this the movie.
i begin by setting up a new sequence and as i cant seem to set the size to 1024x576 i have selected the preset widescreen 48khz (not 100% if this is right) i then bring both my tiff sequence(1024x576) and my music on to the time line, i the click export and media :  Here is the settings on the screen and as you can see in the preview widow the size seems to look about right. However once the movie has been exported it does not appear as wide as this.
i would be so greatfull if you can tell if i am doing anything wrong.
    Thankyou,
    Ryan

Why do you need the AVI file, and does it have to be DV AVI? The problem will be that DV AVI is going to Export to less than what you have in both your Project/Sequence and your Assets. [Edit] Must have been dreaming, as you never mentioned "DV. You should be able to Export out as MS AVI [Uncompressed]
Depending on exactly how you will use this file, might provide some other alternative. There are several other good CODEC's, that might get what you have into what you want.
Please define the use for the Exported file? Answers will flow in.
    Good luck,

  • Capturing Hi8 A/V through Digital8 Camcorder - FCP preset question

After putting this off for years (so long that I forgot what to do) I am finally getting around to loading the old family library of Hi8 video footage shot in the 80's and 90's with a Canon A1 through a Sony DCR-TRV320 to do the analog to video conversion enroute to the Mac through FCP 6. After trial and error I have fumbled my way through the appropriate camcorder settings (Analog Video Out conversion to Digital Video Out, Audio bit rate changed from 12 bit to 16 bit) to eliminate the audio sampling rate mismatch error I was getting in FCP after Capture Now imports.
My latest test loaded OK with no errors. I am still left wondering if I should change the audio frequency preset in FCP. I can't find authoritative info on what audio frequency the original Hi8 material was recorded in. Changing the bit rate from 12 to 16 on the Sony camcorder fixed the FCP mismatch error I was getting, but I wonder if I am screwing with the sound by leaving the FCP preset at 48 kHz. If the Hi8 material was recorded at a lower frequency, will the audio be OK if FCP is importing it at 48 kHz? It sounds OK but I haven't done a headphone test. Just wondering if I have to create a special preset at a lower frequency or just leave it alone, now that I solved the bit rate problem.
    Thanks!

Thank you all for the expert advice. I just found the manual for the Sony camcorder used for the analog to digital conversion and it lists two modes for its PCM system 1) 12 bits/32 kHz, 2) 16 bits/48 kHz. If I understand you correctly, it doesn't matter how the audio was laid down by the Canon A1 analog, since the Sony is converting it to 16/48 (or 12/32 which was my problem earlier, before toggling the Sony menu setting). Is that right?

  • Can FCP convert PAL to NTSC on capture ?

I have a miniDV tape that was shot in PAL and I'm trying to find out if I can use FCP 4.5 to convert the tape into NTSC to use in a movie I'm making. I'd rather no take the tape to an A/V store and have them convert it for me. I'm not sure if FCP can do this but any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this tape has the key video that I need to use for my movie. Thanks.

    Hi Rob.
As well as the Natress thing (great person, good service) you might like to try 'JAS Deinterlacing'. I think that's how it is spelt. I use it all the time. It is free. And gives quite acceptable results. Run a Google on it.
The way it works is that you import your stuff in FCP in PAL and than export the clip or sequence as a QT reference movie (you know, don't click the 'self contained' box), import into Jas and away you go.
    Hope that helps.

  • Exporting DV PAL Quicktime 1024 x 576

    Hi there -
I'm looking for advice about a HD project I'm working on.
It's being shot PAL on a Sony Z1. Here are the final specs the client has asked for:
An uncompressed quicktime, 1024x576 DV PAL WIDESCREEN Square Pixels
I'm not sure what capture preset I should use for this purpose. Should I downconvert to DV from the start or would there be a benefit to working in HD? Is 1024x576 a size I can capture at?
Final question! For uncompressed, do I set codec to 'None' or use one of the 'Uncompressed' options?
    many thanks,
    Lisa

    Hi
An "uncompressed quicktime, 1024x576 DV PAL WIDESCREEN Square Pixels !!!!"
DV PAL is not square pixels !
DV PAL is not uncompressed !
Your client doesn't know what he is talking about. Widescreen DV are always anamorphic.
Just use Compressor to convert your HD timeline to DV PAL ANAMORPHIC 48 KHZ. Path in compressor settings : Other worflows= Advanced format conversions = Standard definitions = DV PAL ANAMORPHIC.
Uncompressed quicktime is also anamorphic and not 1024x576 Square Pixels. You can also use Compressor to export SD 10 bit uncompressed Pal or SD 8 bit uncompressed Pal. Same path in compressor.

  • HDV Widescreeen FCP to PAL SD Widescreen DVD?

We have a film that is finished in HDV 1080i50 on FCP at 1440 X 1080 (16:9). We now want to create a PAL SD DVD that gives us pure 16:9 rather than 4:3 letter boxed. What are the exact sizings for this and where should i be resizing?
I have found another post on discussions that reccomends using the method I employed below but I am unsure that this produces a perfect 16:9 video.....
I've been exporting a QT using the export command and the default settings of HDV1080i and that gives me a QT which is by 1920 X 1080. I then brought that into compressor 2 and used the apple setting of high quality 90min 16:9 preset. I altered the .m2v preset so that the filed dominance was upper layer, I changed the "frame control" to be custom (in "resizing control" I selected "best" on "resize filter" I changed it to "top first" and finally I changed the "deinterlace" to "best".
I then imported the encoded project into a SD DVDSP project and burnt it.
When watching this it seems ok but this method seems a little convuloted to create a widescreen movie. I am not sure if this produces a perfect 16:9 SD movie. What is the correct workflow?
Many thanks for anyone who can help me.....
    Fred

I perhaps should mention that I haven't done this myself, and that I'm just trying to think through how it should be done, for what it's worth!
You're taking 1080 lines and making them be 576. If you just scaled from one to the other you who end up with a blur of the two fields mixed together. If there's much horizontal movement that might not be a good thing. Deinterlacing Best will probably do its best to mix the lines where there seems to be no motion, and ignoring the one field if there is a lot of motion. At least that's how I think it ought to work.
As there's going to be motion a lot of the time I would argue that just dropping one of the fields would be as good as any other way. Pick either field in the deinterlace options.
I just played around with the 16:9 settings in FCP, and it seemed to have a mind of its own! I wrestled with it and convinced the video clip to fill the document area. I'm sure there is a better way to make that work.
Anyway, having done that (set deinterlace, first field in my case, and squished to fill the document window), I then just did an export using Compressor, and in Compressor used one of the 16:9 encoders. The resulting m2v plays perfectly well in DVD Studio Pro, and I can switch the display resolutions in Simulator to anything I like, and it seems to do the right thing. The Track even had set itself to be 16:9 Letterbox.
With Simulator set to 16:9 display mode I get a wide screen, with the video reaching from top to bottom. If I set a 4:3 display mode I still see the whole video, but with the usual letterbox bars above and below the 16:9 area.

  • Pal SD 16/9 Anamorphic.

    Hi,
How do I encode and author my SD Pal 16/9 video to make it "True" 16/9 720x576 Anamorphic dvd ? Should I export it from FCP as 4/3 or 16/9..?
It seems like whatever I do it ends up being 720x480.. which reduces the vertical resolution..
Is this a standard that makes it possible to play the dvd´s on both 4/3 and 16/9 televisions ?
I´m a bit confused about whether it´s the dvd players that recognises the aspect ratio and or the tv sets..
    Any information will be appreciated.
    Best
    Lars Beyer

    Lars
Use Compressor to encode your movie using any of the Hogh Quality DVD 16:9> prestes (You don't mention the menght in munutes of your movie) to get the MEG2 video, and use the Dolby 2 (AC3) preset for your audio.
In DVDSP set your track Display Mode as 16:9 letterbox. This way it will play full screen in widescreen TVs and letterboxed in 4:3 ones. No matter that be aware that some bad DVD Players and/or TV settings can override the disc configuration and play it back in the wrong way, but you cannot control what the hardware user do !
It seems like whatever I do it ends up being 720x480
Do you mean 720x576? Anamorphic vide use the same image size in pixels than standard footage, but uses a different pixels aspect ratio, what makes the image widescreen. If you open the encoded movie in QT you'll see square pixels.
    Hope that helps !

  • PAL HD to SD anamorphic for UK broadcast

I have to deliver my first TV spot for UK broadcast (been delivering in U.S. for decades).
All (7) spec sheets say they will only accept PAL standard def "Full height anamorphic" (16:9FHA)
I drop my 1920x1080 @ 25fps file into a PAL DV Widescreen sequence and I see narrow black bars on the sides.
    So, I do the math, Height: 576 / 1080 = 53.33%,   Width: 720 x 1.4587(PAR) / 1920 = 54.7%
    Looks like that works well.
Seriously...    I have to do the MATH to create a common (in UK) format file?
Then to top it off, they want upper field dominance, and Premiere has NO preset for PAL (SD) upper field!
How do you guys on the other side of the pond do it? Any recommendations?
Oh, and while we're on the subject, the spec sheets don't appear to say anything about actual audio levels, they only spec:
Audio Levels: EBU-R128  and  Audio Loudness: ITU-R BS.1770
Google search suggests these are methods of measurement, but don't indicate a desired level (actual number).
So I found one related document (in my internet search) that said most desired level might be -23 LUFS
Anyone have any UK insight there?
    Thank much.

    Ann,
So, in this discussion (link below) you and Ernesto instruct to increase the H&V scale, presumably to 54.7%, to crop the top and bottom and eliminate the black bars. I can see the advantage of this to prevent the (albeit small) distortion incurred with my and Richards settings. And then, I may need to raise the image one pixel (line) to obtain proper field dominance. Interesting hoops we have to jump through...  Is there a tutorial on this anywhere?
    Thanks for the extra info.

  • Slow Motion Issues FCP (not PAL issue)

    Hi,
I have researched this, and it seems it is a common problem, with many contradictory answers. I have FCP NTSC, and am uploading HDV. When I slow it down, it becomes jittery and choppy. I hear this was an issue in the PAL version, but it seems to be an issue with my editing as well. We shot it in 60i by the way. Unfortunately I don't have any other associated programs, just FCP 5 (so no ProRes, though I would like to get my hands on it). Anyhoo, some good input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bare in mind that you are trying to make less frames persist over a longer duration. When you do a slow motion adjustment, you have to duplicate frames, which makes your footage look steppy. I have found that anything more than about 75% of the original speed looks quite choppy. Frame blending will cover a little bit, but when you look at overcranked footage and compare the two, you can really see the difference. If you use Shake or Motion for the slow-mo, you can utilize the optical reflow machine which will create interpolated frames to help with the missing information.

  • HD ready LCD for FCP monitoring (PAL)?

Hi from the UK (PAL land)
Im looking for the best value LCD HD ready screen to buy for monitoring my FCP stuff!
I have a G5 Dual G5 2.5GHz with 23" cinema and 20" displays. Im not producing broadcast material - just corporate and wedding DVD's, and up till now I have been using a standard CRT sony portable for an external monitor which has done me fine for the kind of work we produce.
I would like something like 26" - 30" inch LCD to put up on the wall, but I also want to monitor it for my SD and HD projects (for the future). We have been shotting in HD for own own personal projects keeping them until a burner and HD-DVD player becomes available her in the UK (god knows when!)
Anyone out there got any suggestions, and what will I need to hook up my mac to such a monitor? my buget is maximum £700.00-ish!
I was looking at the Philips 23PF4310 23" - HD ready at £499.00

In my opinion, 99.9% of TV monitors make lousy computer monitors due to their relatively low resolution. If you'll look a the specs for the Soyo model you linked to, you'll see the ONLY resolution setting is 1366 x 768 ... pretty low for critical computer work.
    In comparison, Apple's 23" Cinema Display and Dell's 24" has up to 1920 x 1200 and Apple's 30" is up to 2560 x 1600.

  • PAL letterboxed to NTSC anamorphic DVD

I'm trying to figure out a good workflow to go from a PAL letterboxed
QuickTime movie to an NTSC anamorphic DVD. A rather depressing assignment.
Using Compressor, I started with the DVD: 90-minute Best setting.
In the MPEG-2 Video Format section, I selected NTSC, 29.97, 16:9, top first.
Turned on all the frame controls--set to better or fast,
and set Source Inset (Cropping) to 16:9. That works, but there are some
    nasty interlacing artifacts.
Am I doing something absurd here?
Would it make more sense to split the workflow:
first deinterlacing, then resizing and changing the frame rate,
    followed by the MPEG-2 encoding?
I could split the process up with a New Job with Target Output,
or I could do all the "mastering" in Shake, and just use Compressor
    for the MPEG-2 encoding.
Any words of wisdom would be most appreciated.

OK, I figured out a great workflow, and I'd like to share it.
    1. Compressor: Setting: DV PAL Anamorphic
    a. Encoder: Video Settings: Frame Rate Current, Scan Mode Progressive, Aspect Ratio 16:9
    b. Frame Controls: Resize Better, Output Fields Progressive, Deinterlace Better, Adaptive Details Off
    c. Geometry: Source Inset: Crop 16:9
    2. Cinema Tools: Conform to 23.98
    3. Compressor: Setting: DV NTSC Anamorphic
      a. Encoder: Video Settings: Frame Rate Current, Scan Mode Progressive, Aspect Ratio 16:9
    4. Compressor: Setting: DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes
So, to summarize, I used Frame Controls to do the heavy lifting of resizing and deinterlacing, and avoided the issue of retiming by conforming. Since the footage was progressive, converting to NTSC was easy, and didn't require Frame Controls. DVD looks nice.
And the cool thing about the new Apple Forum Format is that I can answer my own questions!

  • FCP preset and Exporting movie codec setup?

    Hello all,
I am using Canon 5D mark II to take the video clips, and editing them by FCP. The original video format from 5D2 is H.264, fps 30, .mov format. At the begining, I transfer it to ProRes422 format, and then edit it in FCP.
I am not familiar with the codecs, Can anyone teach how to setup the FCP Video/Audio Setting, the Sequence Preset and Capture Preset for my 5D Mark II video?
On the other hand, when I finish editing, I don't know what kind of codec and file format is better to make the file size smaller and also has good quility for exporting, please give me some advices! thanks!

Make a new sequence. Drag one of your converted ProRes clips into the timeline before you do anything else. You should get the option to change the sequence to match the clips. Do it.
As far as exporting goes there's no way to answer that without knowing where you're trying to get to when you export.

  • Does Final Cut X's Project Properties have an equivalent of FCP 7's NTSC CCIR 601 (anamorphic) Sequence Settings?

I work with a lot of remote freelance production vendors and manage productions that they are doing for me. I am not yet working in FCX, and only one of my vendors is using it.
The issue is that none of his footage is HD, but a lot of it is 16:9 SD anamorphic, or SD 4:3 footage that he might choose to stretch or enlarge to fill the widescreen frame.  He created his project as a 1080 HD project. I am concerned that  putting all this SD footage into an HD timeline will distort the footage from the get-go by blowing it up unnecessarily. I can't see anything good happening by blowing up footage only to shrink it back down to resolution for DVD encoding.
Final Cut 7 allows you to keep such footage at its native resolution through the NTSC CCIR 601 (anamorphic 16:9) Sequence Setting.  Does Final Cut X allow you to do the same thing, and how do I talk my producer through the steps needed to do it?   Does he need to start over with a new project?

Go to the Project Library and right click the project then choose "Show Properties" from the drop-down menu to bring up the Inspector. Click the little wrench icon to bring up the settings dialog. Change the settings to SD Anamorphic or 4:3 and the appropriate framerate.
Upscaling to HD is completely useless when dealing with SD footage going to DVD.

  • Best fcp preset AUDIO FILTER for camera MIC--?

    Hi.
Trying to improve the sound quality on some footage that was recorded in an auditorium using the on-board camera mic.....the levels are low to begin with, and the room has quite a hollow sound....
Just wondering which of the presets may be best for helping this sound...
    Thanks....
    Mark

In agreement with DH - I've had this problem before and have tried to remedy it with little success.
You could fiddle around with a noise gate. To increase the volume, duplicate the audio track in the timeline.
Good luck and make sure the sound is recorded properly next time, monitoring with a decent set of headphones - I have a pair of Sennheiser HD-25 - not inexpensive but used by a lot of camera ops and sound recordists.
Don't rely on the on-board camera mic - they tend to be omni directional and capture all sorts of unwanted ambient sound - the audience coughing, sneezing, f**ting, babies crying etc (unless its a Metallica gig...). Depending upon the circumstances., use an external mic or go through the mixing desk.
I think you'll have to mark it zero dude (or at least put it down to experience.) if you're unable to re-record.
