Final distribution questions

Hi Guys,
A few things that I fail to fully understand when building the final (well an AdHoc distribution version):
1) after building the adhoc distribution version, I drag the app to the itunes applications screen, it shows the nice + sign and adds the app to the applications (I can then sync) and everything works fine,
the only thing that bothers is that my app (on the itunes screen) has some icon I do not recognize (seems like a default Icon of some sort (its bw with a pencil and a ruler and a paintbrush), on the device my app shows with my icon (Icon.png listed in the plist.info file). Other apps I have installed from the itunes appstore have correct images (both on the itunes application and on the iphone) what am I doing wrong? or is this an effect of something that was not installed from the appStore?
2) What are guidelines and were do I update and display the version number in my app?
I see plist.info has a few entries that I'm not if I'm suppose to fill in or is it apple's private things.
any hint would help. How do I dynamically get this value to show in my About Screen?
the suspected entries are:
Bundle version
but the docs also mention another entry that is suppose to track the build number.
3) my plist.info has the following bundleIdentifier line:
com.yourcompany.${PRODUCT_NAME:identifier}
this does not seem right, an I suppose to change this? where does this reflect?
4) my plist has the following:
Bundle creator OS Type code with value ???? (4 qmarks)
what is that used for?
Any help on these would be greatly appreciated.
thanx!!

Hey,
I have recently just finished a tune which in essence i'm very happy with.
Cool!
The problem that i have is that when i bounce the track it comes out a whole lot more quiet than it sounds in Logic.
What are you listening to your mixes with? Is it not loud enough there? Turn up the volume.
Also the my Kick sounds completely out, but not in Logic.
Please define "completely out" Out as in the timing is out? Out as in it went for dinner and did not come back? Out as in...
Is it that i am not adding enough to my songs? (although this song contains about 30 audio channels and about 50 instruments).
That is not the problem.
Am i just gonna have to be patient and just learn to get more proper sounding mixes, or am i putting too many plug-ins to to my Channels? (i am quiet partial to Delays and Reverb))
Yes, you have to learn to use the ways of the force.
Here is your first lesson, young paduwan:

  • HD to SD final output question

    Hello Forum,
I have just completed Jeff Bellune’s excellent HD to SD tutorial called “hd2sd - High Quality Scaling From HD to SD”. For weeks I have been trying in vain to downscale my 1920 x1080i AVI-8bit YUV HD footage for output to PAL DVD without much luck, resulting in terrible output quality, but for anyone experiencing the same problem I would like to let you know that the quality of the conversion with Jeff's method is absolutely amazing. http://bellunevideo.com/tutlist.php Thanks for the post Jeff you are a star!
But I have one small problem. In the final process when using VirtualDub to open your AviSynth script file and then saving it out to a Lagarith AVI file.
The process works as described with great results however the final output file is exported at an output size of 720x576 - 1.250 (5:4) aspect ratio. (Size data extracted from GSpot) The problem is when I import this into Encore the footage does not fill the whole screen.
My to the forum question is does anyone know how I can change the output file size in VirtualDub to a (16.9) aspect ratio so that when imported into Encore the footage takes up the whole screen in a (16:9) widescreen format.
Can VirtualDub be used to do this and if so does anyone know the exact settings to be used?
Any assistance with this will help me greatly.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rex.

    Thank you Jeff
You are a brilliant person, thank you very much as you solved my long standing and draining problem in one answer!
The output result is second to none as a matter of fact I can’t even tell the difference from the original footage!
Everything is fine now but while the Big man himself is about I wonder if you could possibly answer these 3 questions?
    1) I am using Premiere CS5.5, Should I have used the Maximum render quality setting when exporting my MPEG2 file from premiere (this wasn’t mentioned in the CS4 tutorial)
2).My original source footage used in my test project is 1920 X1080i (1.0) 50Hz Pal - and I have exported 3 versions, one Lower field first, one upper field first and one Progressive no fields. Using the Interpret Footage techniques from your advice I created 3 separate Encore projects in each field setting the thing is I can’t tell the difference between them in my test DVDs. (Q. which field setting do you recommend me use for my final project output to Pal DVD (Note Encore Pal Project settings make reference to Lower field first).
    2) Could I re-import the exported VirtualDub avi file back into premiere. Then edit my project adding effects and titles and when the project is complete export the finished project into Encore either by uncompressed AVI or MPEG2-DVD?. If this is possible will I lose much quality on export? And would you know how I could Interpret the Footage to PAL Widescreen (1.4587).in premiere? (I ask this as it would be much easier to edit with these smaller files as my original files are very resource consuming)
Again I would be most grateful if you have some advice on these questions as I am a newbie to HD editing but embracing the challenge.
    Thanks again.
    Rex.

  • Restricted Distribution Question

I've been researching restricted and private distribution, mainly reading: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite/articles/restricted-distribution-with-d igital-publishing-suite.html
I understand you need an enterprise account for private distribution, but what about restricted??  Even in the link above I can't get a clear picture.
For example, can we get a Pro account, and create a publicly available multi-folio app... but then require a username and password to access additional folios.  Therefore, we control who can download the folios within the app (ie: not have them publicly available per se)...?
We have a client that we've created a number of digital sales brochures for, but they are only for use by their sales force.  Currently we're using the Adobe Viewer to distribute them "privately" to the sales force, but this has been troublesome and the user group is expanding too much globally.  So, we need a method to distribute the sales brochures, but not have them available to the public.  Enterprise level account is probably out of the question due to cost...  so I'm hoping "restricted" distribution using the Pro account is possible!
If this won't work, any other suggestions would be more than welcome!
    Thanks,
    Greg B

Thanks for the info everyone.  I talked briefly with Adobe today and I agree the Enterprise account seems to be required for what we'd like to do, but at $50k+ per year, its out of my small media company's price range!  They are supposed to talk to me about their agency solutions sometime soon... waiting for that Adobe person to call me.
I'm curious about what Richard brought up, the B2B store... does anyone know if its possible to publish (using a DPS Pro account) to the B2B app store instead of the "public" iTunes store??

  • Adobe form distribution question

Form created in LiveCycle and distributed with Adobe Pro...3 choices for distribution.
    1) Through Acrobat.com (which stores the responses on Adobe servers)
    2) By email (This is not an option for me because these forms can not invoke an email client on submission from the user. --> group policy locked-down machines.)
    3) To an internal server
Option 3 works great for me as long as the person submitting the form is on my LAN.  The problem is that we have users not on the LAN submitting the form.  My repository for the responses needs to be accessible from the internet.
    What I tired:
Shared folder on server.  Full permissions for "everyone" just to avoid that as a problem during configuration....
    Folder web shared by IIS.
Trying to use the distribution wizard to set this up for that folder.  It wants a UNC path but that will not work for external  users and no matter what http path I put in there is tells me it is  unable to create the shared folder....
Obviously, if the forms can distribute and submit to Acrobat.com then they can submit to my own server.  The question is how can I do this?  Very frustrating.

Please repost to either the LiveCycle Designer forum or the acrobat.com forum.

  • Iphone app distribution questions

My app is a very simple table drill down within a tab bar. From recommendations on this list I'd like to keep my data (the catalog - 250 items of 6 attributes) in a plist.
I can't give the user the ability to edit or add to the catalog/plist. But the catalog will get updated on the order of 3-4 times per year.
What's the simplest way to keep all the users' catalogs up-to-date? My first guess is just to reissue the app package with the updated plist built in. Thoughts or suggestions?
As for the initial distribution, I'm selling the app to a manufacturer that wants their 5000 dealers to have access at no charge. I'm guessing that means putting it on iTunes as a free app. And as above, resubmitting it to the iTunes store whenever I have an updated catalog. Thoughts or suggestions?
This is my first foray into actually finishing an app and trying to distribute it.
    Thanks.
    -Phil

Not sure what you mean by 'a remote based data style app'. Is that the same as the server based solution mentioned above?
Oopss, sorry, yes. Server/remote versus local, on the device. It would be an elegant solution, with its own benefits, of course. I think you appreciate the extra effort tho.
If you need an example of how easy it can be to get into trouble depending on a simple upgrade solution...let me outline a true example.
I know of an outfit that paid handsomely/$$$$ to have a full page color ad appear in a major industry print magazine about an upgrade to an existing app that was in big demand, only to have the ad come out nearly three weeks before the app was approved. When the ad was placed, approvals were running between 7 & 10 days. By the time their print ad hit the streets, approvals had slowed to more than 3 weeks. Clearly they failed to count on a lengthy approval process.
They spent far too much time fending off rants on their forums, while also finding themselves defenseless against negative reviews in the app store. The magazine ad promised one thing, but what was being downloaded/purchased was another.
When the app was finally released, they didn't mess with the original app release date and choose instead to forego any visibility an updated release date would have bought them.
This happened to a competitor, and their timing loss was my coincidental gain. My app made it into the store right after their print ad surfaced and before their app was approved. Cha...ching for me.
So again, while pushing an upgraded app is a good plan if you pay attention, don't get too comfortable relying on a specific release date and don't let a client talk you into putting your neck into that particular noose.

  • Static and final keyword questions

Brief summary: I want to make the JButtons, JLabels, and JPanels public static final. Is that bad, and why? And what the heck is the Java system doing when it compiles and runs a program that does this? Is the code more efficient?
    More questions below.....
I'm new to making GUI designs with Java. I am going to school and my teacher is making us do GUI interfaces in JAVA.
Early on, I learned that constants are identifiers similar to variables except that they holda particular value for the duration of their existence. QUESTION ONE: what happens during run-time, how does JAVA handle this constant?
I also learned that some methods may be invariant, as with a simple extension. These methods should be marked final. The subclass inherits both a madatory interface and a mandatory implementation. So I guess you use a final method when you want to model to a stric subtype relatinoship between two classes. All methods not marked final are fair game for re-implementation.
Well, that's good and well. So then I started thinking about static. That's a keyword in Java and when used with a variable, it's shared among all instances of a class. There is only one copy of a static variable for all objects of a class. So then again, I noticed that the programs in my book that used final usually threw in the word static before it. Memory space for a static variable is established when the class that contains it is referenced for the first time in a program.
Well, that too is great? Question 2: In my GUI programs, can I declare all the buttons (JButtons), labels (JLabels), panels (JPanels) as being final constant static?
In the program I don't intend to change the type of button, or JPanel so why not make it a constant? As long as I'm doing it, why not make it static? WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON THEN IN MY PROGRAM WHEN I DO THIS?
Question 3: What goes on in JAVA when I make a method or function public static final. Is that what the Math class does? How is that handled during run-time? Is the code faster? Is it more efficient?
Question 4: If I make a class final, that means a subclass cannot extend it? Or does it mean that a subclasss cannot change it? I know that if the function or method in the parent class was final, then the subclass inherits both a madatory interface and a mandatory implementation....So if the class is final, then what?

You have a lot of questions..
You make a method final if it should not be allowed for subclasses to override it.
If you make a class final, you will not be able to subclass that class.
A static method is a class method, i.e. you don't need to create an instance of the class to call the method.
You can make any object and primitive final, but for objects, you are still able to modify what is inside the object (if there is anything you can and are allowed to modify), you just can't change the final reference to point to another object.
When you make a variable final, you sometimes make them static as well if they should work like constants. Because there is no reason that every instance of the class has their own copy of constants.
If you make everything static, why even bother to work with object-oriented programming. It gives you no reason to make instances of your classes. You should try not to make static variables and methods when there is no need for it. Just because you start from a static main method, it doesn't mean it is necessary to make all variables and methods static.
Don't think so much about performance issues as long as you are still learning java. When you make a method final, it is possible for a compiler to inline that method from where you call the method, but you will hardly gain much in performance with that. In most cases it's better to optimize the code you have created yourself, e.g. look at the code you run inside loops and see if you can optimize that.

  • CPU Processing Distribution Question. Will 4 core VM use all physical cores on physical processor(s)?

Sorry if the title is vague, I am unsure how to properly word my question down to a single line. Anyways, on to my question, if I have two 16 core processors in a server, but I have 1 virtual machine that is setup with 4 cores, will the vmware only use 4 of the physical cores, or will the processing be distributed among all the cores? If searched the documentation but was unable to find much information about this specific situation. The reason I have it set to 4 cores instead of more is because the application I am trying to run only uses up to 4 core and if I can use vSphere to distribute out that processing it would greatly improve the performance. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Community - a VCPU can only run on a single core at a time - so your 4 VCPU vm will run only 4 of the 32 cores that are available in you ESXi host but each - the ESXi host is also smart enough not let the any of the 4 VCPUs share core either. By default the VM's VCPUs can be scheduled on any of the 332 physical cores
I am also moving your question to a more appropriate forum.

  • Newbie with fill-able form distribution questions

Please can someone help me understand a few things about creating electronic forms in LiveCyle Designer ES so our HR department can:
Make the blank forms available on our Intranet
Make the forms fill-able by our own employees with Intranet access and Acrobat Reader 6 and above.
Allow the form and the form data to be emailed back to HR as an PDF attachment
Allow HR to send out the part filled form as an email attachment to Authorising managers (numerous people involved in the authorisation process)
Allow the authorising managers to submit their authorisations back to HR
Allow HR to store and print the completed forms with all the authorisations (not digital signatures, just email addresses I think)
Is the above possible just using LiveCycle Designer ES (stand-alone version) to create the forms, saving as 6.x, setting the compatibility tab settings correctly, sending to HR so they can do the distribution bit in Acrobat and then putting the form_distributed.pdf file on the Intranet? Or do we need other tools to accomplish the above?
    Best Regards to all.

I'm pretty sure this is possible with a standalone version of LiveCycle Designer. I don't believe any of the functionality you described requires a LiveCycle server. My only caution would be the use of Adobe Reader 6.0. At the very least, if you can push the use Reader 7.0 (or even better 8.0), your ideas will function better. There is a pretty big gap from 6.0-7.0. If you'd like to discuss this further, feel free to email me.
    Hope this helps!

  • Document Distribution Question for Confirm Receipt Workflow

    Hi all,
If I do a document distribution for recipient list (CVI7) with several users as recipients of the document, all of the workflows with links back to the dist log for confirming receipts go to the person who initiated the distributions.  Is there any method of directing these workflows directly to the users specified in the recipient list?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
In stndard sap it is not possible. It might be done by changing the recipient in the workflow. So consult a workflow person for this.

  • Okay I think I have it!- the final ibook question from yours truly!

I have finally configured my ibook to just the way I want it excluding one crucial thing: Memory. I know the more memory you have, the more apps you can run at once. But the most apps I would be running at once would be 2 or 3. Would someone out there with a 12 inch ibook(1.33 GHz PowerPC G4, 512MB DDR333 SDRAM built-in, 40 or 60 GB hard drive) click on 2 or 3 apps and see if they all run confortably at once.
    Thanks-
    You guys are great!

    Hi Tech,
It sounds like to me you will be fine if you want to stick with the installed RAM. I wouldn't worry about space until later. I personally use an external hard drive for both my iTunes and iPhoto libraries (I have over 40Gb of just iTunes music). You don't have to order the RAM now, you can always get it later and install it yourself. I suggest buying it when you order because Apple puts it in; less risk of something going wrong.
    Options about external hard drives:
I suggest anything from LaCie, SmartDisk, or Western Digital
I personally recommend theLaCie D2 Hard Drive Extreme w/ Triple Interface, SmartDisk CrossFire, or the WD Dual Option.
I use a SmartDisk CrossFire for both my iTunes library as well as my iPhoto library. If you need help moving your iTunes library you might want to look at Knowledge Base Document #301748 explains How to Move Your iTunes Library.

  • Snow Leopard and Final Cut question.

What happens to all my FCP projects when I install Snow Leopard onto my 24" iMac. I know that's probably not a very educated question, but I'm wondering if anything changes in my FCP projects and settings after I make the upgrade. Also do I need to unistall Leopard, or is that taken care of simultaneously durning the addition of Snow L?
    Thank you,

Nothing. They will continue to work as usual.

If you bought the $29 upgrade of SL, it requires that Leo is present. Installing as an upgrade replaces older operating system components and essential software. It does not touch add ons like FCS, iWork, Office etc.
If you bought the SL box set, you can erase the drive and install eveything fresh.
As with any update or upgrade, make sure that your irreplaceable files are backed up first.

  • Manual distribution question

    Hi,
We are building an Integrated Planning application which will be mainly used to split out (distribute) keyfigure values from one record  (a characteristic Region not-assigned) to multiple other lines where this characteristic region has a value. Those other lines are already existing but I am wondering what the most efficient procedure is to make this application keeping in mind these requirements :
    a) the users should manually re-distribute the values from the first (not-assigned) line to the others, so no automatic distribution is required
    b) the value on the not-assigned line should decrease automatically when a value is distributed to one of the new lines. (the users must be able to see how much they still have to distribute)
    c) The amount on the original not-assigned line should never be exceeded when distributing values to the new lines.
    Example
    As is situation
    ===========
    Region     Value
    not-***.   1000€
    North
    South
    West
To be situation via manual input
    ========================
    Region     Value
    not-***.    0 €
    North       500€
    South      250€
    West       250€
==> Can anyone give hints on how to achieve b) and c) ?
    thanks

    hi
u can work in wad or anlyser by creating two analysis grids
    and fox formula.
in the first analyser grid u need to display # value.
In the second analyser grid u create ready query input and give plan data manually and u need to have one planning function to be executed by pressing save button after entering plan data
In that planning function u need to write the logic for reducint the amount of input from # region so that in the first analysis grid it will display the difference.

  • Exporting Final Video Question

    Hello,
I've made a music video using Final Cut Pro hD (version 4.5). All of the footage was shot on my digital camera (Canon PowerShot SD500) at 30 fps and at 640 x 480. I was able to import all the footage and somehow I was able to get the scaling and proportion right within FCP.
Now that I've done all my editing and the music video is complete, I am having difficulty exporting the final thing out.
    What happens:
    1. FCP will process for a while, and then it tells me that the system is out of memory. So, it doesn't end up printing the final movie.
    2. I tried exporting it in sections -- thinking that I could put them back together in QuickTime Pro. But the sections come out stretched too wide.
What are the proper settings? This is what I want:
    1. Even though this is a fairly lo-fi production, I want to be able to maintain the highest quality possible. I don't want to degrade it any more than it already is. What settings should I use for this so called "Master"?
    2. I know that I'll have to convert it to put it on to my website and youTube. What settings should I use for that?
I am confused by all the compression options, anoramic, interlaced, progressive, etc. I am still new to this. So any recommendation would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Reuben

    1. The chapter markers have to be attached to the timeline, not to a clip, and conform to chapter marker restrictions. http://www.fcpbook.com/Misc3.html
    2. There is an export setting in QuickTime Conversion of iPod. This is not the same as exporting to QuickTime Movie and has to be done separately.
2b. Chapter markers aren't recognized on an iPod. You might be better off making separate movies for each section.

  • Final DVD Question

I just finished compressing a video with the best setting for DVD. I notice when I watch back in my DVD player there is one part of the clip that has scrolling text. That part the text is blurry when it wasn't on my original FCP sessions. What do I need to adjust to fix that?
    Thanks!

This is your LAST question about DVDs or this is a question about the last DVD you will ever do?
You will need to view your DVD on a TV set and tell us what you see to determine what we tell you next. "Blurry" is a bit subjective.

  • Finalizing Project Question - iMovie

It takes my computer about 6 hours to finalize a 15 minute video. I was wondering if there was any way to speed it up? I export in full 1080p and don't want to change that, but when it finalizes it creates a 720p.mov, 1080p.mov, large.m4v, and a medium.m4v. The only video file I use is the 1080p.mov, is there any way I can just finalize that? Rather than finalizing all 4 copies? Then it would take just a 1/4th of the time?

Nevermind, just figured it out. For anyone else wondering,
Just go to Share - Export. Then you select your file size. Don't know how I didn't see that before lol
