Finder long term general issues, apple not solving

I have been using mac and their finder since 1991 or so and since osx things seem to go off the rails increasingly. I thought it is time to try to collect and mention them... maybe apple becomes aware of them ?....
In os8.6 and 9 the finder was working for me but since OSX10.1 finder still can not keep the icons in the place that I put them in .... and that after many years of OSX... Some examples: (1) grid size scaling only moves icons horizontally (2) grid is not stable but changes, new icons are all over the place but not on the old grid that you had when you arranged the icons some time ago, and you have to select all and drag them around to get them aligned on the "NEW" grid. This action can badly mess up the original icon positions. (3) you can place icons on top of each other, but only 1 by one ?? (4) is there a way to LOCK I mean FIX POSITION of the icon? (5) what does the "use as defaults" button actually do? (6) Every time I plug in another display my desktop icons are completely hassled, I have no idea to which order, sometimes multiple icons on top of each other.
And many more bugs.... is no one debugging their finder application?
I still find it unbelievable that the pop-up windows they had in OS8.6 still have not been re-invented and that I need to use drop drawers to get this functionality.
Another objection is that there is lacking support for power users. I want to access stuff via a keyboard, keyboard shortcuts for all dialogs, avoid a mouse, see hidden files, and when I give the computer a command it should JUST DO IT, not nag me with "are you really sure blablabla" and force me to use a mouse to click tiny OK buttons. When I ask umount my disk should eject, not give a vague message, nor should the computer crash when I force the eject. Let the applications crash if that's the problem (at least we know what the problem is) but not the OS...
Another major annoyance is unresponsiveness of the finder. Many times I see nothing happen. Or often, spinning pizzas only. IMHO responsiveness is design rule number 1. SHOW the user that the system is doing what he asked. Without quick response I start killing the task and even that is unresponsive in 10.6 in some cases. I remember particularly trying to kill a final cut studio compressor job and I had to wait for 20 seconds or so before even the kill-task interface popped up. And after more than 30 seconds I'm usually reaching for the power button..... which happens increasingly often in spite that my computer is now 1000 times faster than the one I used for os8.6..
I use the finder to control my computer, if anything should be robust and fast it's this part.

Since most of your post is related to how MacOS works, or doesn't (in it's normal fashion), and not to bugs or problems that can be solved by users on this forum, you will probably need to voice your opinion directly to Apple (we don't work for them, and they don't post here officially):

Sap mm md04 and ms04 stock requirement and long term planning issue

i have one issue regarding MD04 and MS04. in MD04 3 storage locations were showing. in that the stock in 2 storage locations was excluded due to no long term plan.

To change the forecast from occuring at start of period ( month) you can always select the Schedule line Tab in MD61,MD62. then select period indicator as Day format as shown below
Per. Ind          Date              Qty
D     17.05.2010     30
D     15.06.2010     40
D     15.07.2010     50
System will then plan PIR (forcast) based on dates assigned by user instead of being placed on the first day
of the period. This will prevent forcast to fall into the previous month. Also it will resolve the capacity issue you are facing.

Long Term Planning Issue - Transaction MS04

Hi Experts,
I have two problems looking for solution from you.
1. Transaction Code MS04 -> After entered Planning Version, Material and Plant... I can see list of orders in the report. If I click Production Order, Planned Order, Inspection Lot document Element Details (on left hand additional function) and I am able to double click and display these documents. However If I double click Material Reservsation document It is not allowing me as I can't see "Display element (F7) Icon. How do I get the display element icon for Material reservation document also.
2. We have a lot of Quality Inpsection lots documents when we display in MS04 report but the problem here it is peggeging as requirements in Long term planning report. We want to just display the document here not as requirements.
Please let me know the solution for above two.

Dear NNeeti,
1.In CM38-->in the top menu --->under Planning ->Profiles->Overall Profile.
2For this over all profile check the Details in OPA6 T Code and find out the option Profile assigned to this over all profile.
3.Edit the details of this Option profile in OPA3 (change the number of days as 730 instead of 365 in the finish date).
Check with this setting in CM38 and proceed.

NVIDIA issue: Apple not agreeing to replace logic board

Hi,
I have a 15" MBP purchased in Oct 2007.
This is what happened.
Watching videos, screen starts flickering, Then hanged. So rebooted manually. Happened 3-4 times and after that system won't boot.
Display comes, sound comes and then comes to gray screen of death.
Took it to ASP, guy says software issue and asks me to repair. I go home run the diagnostic test and get the error:
4VDC/1/40000003: VideoController.
Googled and found out about the NVDIA 8600M graphics processor issue.
Went back to ASP very happy that problem occurred with just 2 months remaining for the 4 yr warranty.
Then begins my ordeal.
ASP says because of the kernel panic, they cannot run any diagnostic test to confirm if its only GPP issue. They say some other component on logic board has failed so cannot give free replacement.
Raise it with Customer care who puts me through Customer Relationship Manager, she says she'll have Apple engineers validate it.
Comes back next day, says Apple engg ran test and found out its not GPP issue. I ask for results confirming it. She says I can get those from ASP.
Next day go to ASP, ask for results, they say we could never run any test.
I am a bit of technical guy myself. I understand that any malfunctioning hardware can cause kernel panic and graphics processor is pretty important one.
So what I don't understand is, how can Apple say its not NVDIA issue, without even running any test.
Called up customer care again, (this time was connected to different relationship manager) she kept saying the same thing, we did our test and find to connection to GPP issue. I asked her to put me through some technical person. She said she would do it and am waiting for the same.
What I find very frustrating is that I have found many instances where people found the same issues as mine and they got a free replacement of the logic board. Then why in my case Apple is not willing to accept that this is the same problem.
I need help from folks over here. What really are my options? What should I do?
I am hoping the Apple technical person understands what I am saying. But what if he too refuses to accept?
I cannot afford to spend this much on a logic board. Will have to buy a new one and that too non-MAC. (My wife would kill me if I buy another MAC and based on my own experience I would be very scared as well)
I am based in India.
Please help.

my laptop from Apple Site and brought up the TS2377. Then he gave me some nonsense about how my model was 15"MBP 2.2/2.4 GHz (Late
2007) whereas in TS2377, it just says 15"MBP 2.2/2.4 GHz, no mention of Late 2007, therefore my laptop is not part of affected batch. I was like, dude, what
are you talking about, its clearly mentioned manufactured between May 2007 to September 2008. Then he said, this model doesn't have "something" because of
which the NVIDIA test cannot be run. When I asked what that something is, then he just said nothing and cut short that thread of conversation. Then he tried to run
the test on his own laptop and to my good fortune even that laptop didn't recognize the USB at bootup time. It would detect when system was running. At
that point he pretty much ran out of all excuses and told me he would take the laptop inside and work on it. He told me he'll give me a call once he has an
update which he did a while back and gave me the fantastic news.
Although I am thankful to this AASP person for looking into it seriously, this whole episode has left a bitter taste about Apple's service in general.
First I never expected Apple product to go bust in less than 4 years. And if there is a known manufacturing fault then Apple should make sure that the
customer doesnt have to do running around to prove the issue.
The NVIDIA test requires the system to boot up. But ideally the test should be such that they should just be able to take the logic board and verify it somehow.
Its like, if the part has gone little bad then we can replace, but if its gone completely bad then we can't.
Also, Apple should look to fix issues in logic board rather than asking users to replace it completely (in the event they are not providing replacement). For all
we know the problem could be in $10 component that requires a $1000 to replace.
Anyways, enough of my rant. I'm just relieved that matter is resolved. I am thankful to all who replied esp tjk.

As you and I already know, that machine is indeed one of the models that may be affected by the NVIDIA issue. It's difficult to believe someone would deny that. Anyway, your persistence paid off, and you should be on the way to a normally functioning MBP. Finally. It's too bad you had to go through all that, but I'm glad that worked out for you. Hope you'll post back with the results after the MBP is repaired.

Long term ADSL issues

Hi guys, looking for a little advice. I live in a fairly rural area, and for nearly a year and a half now I have been battling with constant disconnects, speed changes etc. on my broadband line.
Open reach have been out to the property several times, always locate and fix a minor fault on the line somewhere and then report back to BT that the problem is fixed. A couple of days later...
Anyway - I'm not sure if my line is totally at fault here, which is why I'm posting in the broadband section. This past week, my dowload speed has been less than 1Mb, despite my line averaging 2.5ish and able to hit 4 if I'm lucky.
A quick check on the wholesale speedchecker shows my IP profile is 1.01, and:
"For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-1 Mbps."
This used to show 4.

18 hours since I was told to reset my home hub - the line has been up longer than that.
A call to customer services had me testing ethernet ports on my router, and checking to see "if I could go online", which was irrelevant to the problem. I'm not sure if the person I spoke too quite grasped the issue clearly. This long cycle of asking customer services for help, assurances that the speed will improve etc is getting really quite wearing. I understand that at the end of a rural copper wire I can't expect massive bandwidth, but I know my line can comfortably manage more than I'm receiving.
I also know that I'm being fobbed off by call centre robots following a script which doesn't quite fit the problem in hand.
Sorry to complain - I'm just not sure what the next step is. It's probably the line, but that performs sufficiently well to operate a phone. Bad weather causes noticable noise on it though, so I suspect one or two bad joints somewhere. They never manifest themselves when an engineer is here though!

HT204407 "Location Not Available" label for one friend and they have the same result for finding me. The issue has not been resolved from reading this article.

I always get 'Location Not Available' for one of my contacts in the Find My Friends app. This same friend get's the same message when trying to find me. The app and the iOS software on both iPhones is up to date, the dates and time on both iPhones are correct and both iPhones are in the UK where the Find my Friends service works fine.
There is one condition in which we can see where each other is and that is by having the app open on both phones, this is unlike all my other contacts within the Fnd my Friends app where I can see where they are despite the app not being open on their devices. Can anyone help? It's really bugging us.

my datafiles are autoextend off. i am looking for query to make sure the segments does not stop growing by reaching the maximum segment allocated or no free contigous space available in allocating new extent,.
i need to know periodically the owner,object_name and object type (table or index) which are suffocating for space.
any ad-hoc sql query exists?

Long Term Planning: Simulative Order not covering the Simul.Requirements

Maybe someone has an idea what can be the reason of the following problem:
For some raw materials, the total of simulative requirements per day is not equal to the generated simulative order quantity.
For example:
For material RAW, I have:
13/01:
Simulative Planned Order, Qty = 100
Simulative Requirement, Qty = 40
Simulative Requirement, Qty = 40
Simulative Requirement, Qty = 10
Simulative Requirement, Qty = 10
Simulative Requirement, Qty = 10
Simulative Requirement, Qty = 10 ---> Total of Sim.Reqts = 120
I don't understand why the LTP RUN gives me this result...
Does somebody have an idea?

Thank you, but I finally got it...
The problem was that the MRP type of some raw materials had been changed from X0 to ND.
So we had old simulative planned orders that were not corresponding exactly to the simulative requirements...

Why has Apple not offered something like "Free Safe Text" as part of the iOS?

I just saw a story on TV about a new app called "Free Safe Text". I have been looking for something like that. It is not currently offered in The Apple App store. I have even asked our business insurance carrier for something like it. Apple obviously has become the leader in the smart phone market. I don't understand why they are not demonstrating a concern for safety by offering a similar app or by building it into their iOS. I believe that the insurance community, as well as the public should demand that this be done now. Distracted driving is killing thousands of everyone's friends, neighbors, and loved ones. Apple should act more responsibly in this area!

All I am saying is that the improper and unsafe use of smart phones has become a public safety issue. I don't believe that any law or our elected public officials will ever be successful in controlling this problem. I do not mean to imply that Apple is responsible for the irresponsible use of their devices. I do believe that Apple, as well as all other smart phone manufacturers, should work diligently, hand and arm with the insurance industry, to build hardware and software features into their devices to solve this problem. Ultimately, it will be the insurance community that will demand that the mobile phone industry build the necessary safety features into their products. As the industry leader, it would be nice to see Apple at the forefront of these efforts. I am a long term and loyal Apple product user. They have obviously been very successful. I want them to continue to be! Apple should lead the industry down the road to solving this problem long term. The responsible thing for us all to do is to encourage Apple, and the entire mobile phone industry to move quickly down this path to save as many lives as possible. If this includes disabling smart phones entirely while in a moving vehicle, so be it. The best solution would be to take vehicle control out of human hands. Unfortunately, technology is not far enough along to make that feasible.

I think of 1 idea using t-cd MCBE, but I would like to find out other possibility, to check more better idea.

The Game Center app is pre installed and cannot be removed from the device.
Best thing to do is move it to the last available screen.
Hold down the Game Center app until all the apps jiggle then sliide the Game Center app to the right from one screen to the next. This requires a bit of finesse, but it's doable.
Press the Home button one time to stop the apps from jiggling.
For the Apple ID issue, try resetting.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then try your Apple ID and password for the Game Center app.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

If this doesn't resolve it you most likely have a hardware failure. Fortunately, your phone is in warranty, so if you take it to an Apple store they will replace it.

I am trying to find out about all my associated devices. I recently got a message that I had used my last device, and am not sure how this can be. The instructions for accessing the info via the iTunes account info page apparently were not shared with the programmers since there is no Manage Devices button or option as far as I can see. I was going to rant here about how badly Apple designed their "Apple Id" stuff, how they strongly distinguish between using your Apple Id at the online Apple Store vs. using it at the App Store (which you have to get to via iTunes ... quite ridiculous) ... but I won't. :-)
