Firmware upgrade in place?

I updated my G5 to Panther, 10.3.9, and I have downloaded the firmware upgrade for my early 2004 G5(the DDR RAM G5, not the DDR2).
Now when I go to update, I press the shut down button and it shuts down. Fine. Then I press the start button, and wait for the high tone, after which comes the startup chime. Fine. Then a prompt comes up, in which you have the option of typing in mac-boot, and pressing return, or shut-down, and return. Then it continues to boot up, if I put in mac-boot, and I log in. Then the screen appears once again to update the firmware. After having done this three times, I determined it must have been in place. So I just cancelled the screen. At that time, what appeared to me was that the firmware update had not been completed. This happened twice, after which I again attempted the update.
Now, is this something that happens regularly to people, and the firmware is all done in its update? Or what have I missed?
G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   2 Ghz AGP, 160 GB HD

Hello Daddy Paycheck,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, the G5 is booting up all right, and it works all right. You are right, I was not thinking about checking the profiler. I often do look at the profilers, but not now. The ROM is 5.1.8f5. The firmware uπ∂ate is 5.1.8f7. So I thought it was different, and that I had missed something. Actually, the hardware profiler just says 5.1.8, so it may have been updated, and I just have it in my head. For one thing, every time I run the update, it runs, but with no progress bar, and then the mac-boot/shut–down option comes, and then the screen again about running it, and ad infinitem. Well, after running it again, it says it is installed. But then that screen in the corner comes up again, and it says the update will not happen. It is quite irritating.
Well, I am just taking it as I was figuring before, that it is just installed, regardless of that cockamamey screen.

• Firmware upgrade 1.3.0.62 -- 1.3.5.58 (SG 300-28P)

Should i be concerned doing the firmware upgrade remotely? I.e. remote to a local workstation and connecting to SG 300-28P from that workstation over LAN and doing firmware upgrade using WebGUI (Google Chrome)?
I've done the multiple upgrades on these switches this way and never had an issue.
However, Release Notes for 1.3.5.58 have some notice regarding boot image and I am concerned that configuration can be lost after the upgrade and if this is the case I'd be screwed since I won't be able to get on the switch to load the custom config after the fact.
Anyone who's done this upgrade please report if your configuration settings were left in place after the upgrade to 1.3.5.58.

Cameron hi,
Interesting input about loss of VLAN configuration while upgrading version. Is this the 1st time you see this issue, or does it happen also during regular reload of the switch?
Also - some question which can may provide additonal informaiton on issue  (if you can provide these):
1) Did the issue happen on a port connected to another switch (an uplink port)? - If so what is the neigbor switch type?
2) would it be possible for you to to provide running and startup config before and after reload (of course without security sensative details).
3) Can you provide outputs of show CDP neighbors (detail)  before and after reboot?
Thanks
Naftali

This is part of the message since you cannot post such a long message in posting.
This should show how lost you might be with your warranty. If you install the Firmware Upgrade .8.02 your player might be useless. There is no way to make it work again. Not really. If you understand what Creative seems not to do. So dear user - buy a new player. If you want to know what the solution is to make your player work again post here. If there are enough postings I will explain it here. Too sad that Creative does not do it. It is their job not mine... But again - I am not talking about a problem what is nice to have it solved. I am talking about a player that does not work anymore. If you do not want to wait for my solution just send your player for repair - it was not your fault that it does not work anymore...
This story with the great support was a test of Creative and will be used in a review. So be not surprised to find it somewhere else.
Here the Creative support story. The first mail is at the bottom. I had to make part and part 2 since you cannot post such a long message here.
To: Creative Labs Asia Customer Support <[email protected]][email protected]>Subject: Re: CLA (CTL) - Technical Support Request - (MuVo TX FM) (KMM7755874I6636L0KM)Dear,I know the solution long time already. I just wanted to test the support at Creative. The problem is real and forces owners of your players to buy a new one since their playes get useless after the upgrade. Not only that Creative puts a faulty upgrade on their homepage - their support is good for nothing. But this was a test of the Creative support. I hardly can believe that Creative is not in the position to solve a very simple problem caused by Creative - what has severe consequences for their customers. But this mail story confirms exactly this. So my advice to any customers - stay away from this company and their products - what is the final result of my test. If you want to know the solution for the problem please contact me again - I am glad to help such a poor company :-)))) For free? • Would you buy an n200 when firmware upgrade a problem or go with nan

My dealer has both the n200 and nano with n200 a bit lower in price.Would you go with n200 if no firmware upgrade seems to exist or go for the nano?Does the n200 have decent firmware in it so upgrade not needed? Is there firmware out there to stop the backlight buzz? thanks matt

First of all, compare the n200 to the Nano Plus. The Nano lacks FM radio and doesn't come with the case and armband(In the US both the n200 and Nano Plus have FM and the case and armband. In other places the case and armband might not be included). I would tend to want the Nano Plus if it is close in price to the n200 since going forward firmware upgrades for it will probably be available for longer than for the n200. Some of the earlier n200 firmware does have issues, especially that before .2 . If you do decide to buy an n200 you should plan to do a firmware upgrade as soon as you get it. It is not easy to tell what firmware an n200 will have just by looking at the package. If the price of the Nano Plus is $20 or more above that of the same capacity n200, then I would prefer an n200. If the Nano Plus is only $0 more then I would prefer the Nano Plus. Between those I guess it is a toss up.

• Avoiding Firmware Upgrade Grief

Assuming that you have a non-UDP (User Data Preservation) phone, like the N95, a firmware upgrade can be a major thrash. Many posts in this forum attest to these problems, but they continue to occur, in part because of inadequate instructions.
Here are some thoughts that might be helpful:
1) FIRST: Ask yourself "WHY am I doing this?" If your aren't looking for any specific fix that you KNOW the firmware upgrade will address, then at least admit that you are possibly doing it "just because it's there." For those of us who have no other Everest in sight, that might be sufficient reason. But, it is a violation of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" maxim. I know you know.
2) SECOND: If you are still going to do this, make the appropriate backups. Plural. In spite of the rather glib advice on the firmware upgrade screen, backups to your Memory Card are NOT/NOT equivalent to those made with Nokia PC Suite. I'll explain why in a bit. Sure, go ahead and do both, but the Nokia PC Suite backup is the (only) one that will be likely to get you out of the woods. And that, only partially.
a. Backups to a Memory Card give you NO CONTROL over what is backed up OR restored. It's all or nothing, and sometimes what's included in "All" is just enough to trash your newly-updated phone.
b. Backups with Nokia PC Suite allow YOU to CHOOSE both what you want to backup and restore. So, backup everything if you like, but realize that you NOT successfully restore a highly customized system in one fell swoop after a firmware upgrade. But you CAN get back the essentials (if you have made the backups). By "essentials," I mean user-created data that you could not recreate easily or at all (contacts, messages, etc.). I do NOT mean specific applications, which you should be able to reinstall separately.
c. What about all of those Nokia Maps locations? Go to your Landmarks application, select every one you might ever want to see again, and then SEND them to another compatible Nokia phone via Infrared. Save them all on the second phone (you can reverse the process to get them back on your main phone). Wait: You are thinking about a firmware upgrade and have no comparably functional backup phone? Please reread item 1) above
d. Did you have to do any MANUAL configuration of Packet Data Access Points? I did before I could get my N95 to work as a modem for other devices. Write those details down somewhere. You'll need them. Same for WPA encryption keys and SSIDs. Consider putting this info in the fields of one of your contacts, so you can later use cut/paste to enter your encryption keys for your APs.
e. Make a list of every purchased application you have currently installed, even if you don't intend on using them again. Make sure you have product registration codes available. You'll need them.
Attempts to do an overly-comprehensive restore after firmware upgrade can cause serious problems such as loss of both 3G and WiFi data connectivity. That should be enough to get anyone's attention. It got mine after the fact! If you make careful, incremental backups of crucial information and are willing to be patient, you can eventually get your system back the way you want it.
3) BACKUPS all done? Too bad Nokia provides no verification process outside of the PC Suite log, but it usually works well-enough without it.
4) UPGRADE your firmware. Follow all of the advice and cautions but don't believe the part about a backup to your SD card being remotely adequate. It might be, but most likely only if you have very little customization and no or few third-party apps.
5) NEXT: Get your basic settings (time, date, etc) right.
6) THEN: Connect to PC Suite and RESTORE only your Contacts and Text Messages. Confirm that all restored.
7) NOW: Insert your SD card and IMMEDIATELY set your own PW for the card (if you had previously removed it). If you had applications on the SD card, some might work, others won't, and you'll probably get an "Installing" message followed by an error message to the effect that the applications could not be installed. Ignore the message to try to restore them yourself from the card. Don't (usually) bother to try to remove them, either, as that often doesn't work.
8) THEN: Recreate your WiFi connections and (if your provider-issued APs aren't right) your Packet Data APs. Make sure they work. Test by using your browser. No point trying to install products which require working data connections as part of the install process (e.g., gMail, Truphone) before confirming that such connections are available.
9) ALMOST DONE: Start reinstalling all of your prior applications. I suggest (if you have the choice) that you put them where they were before (SD Card or internal phone memory). If there are any you want to ditch, go back and remove them after first reinstalling them. That tends to get rid of the nagging "Installing" message.
10) FINALLY: Take it slowly, and set priorities. Put your essential apps on first, and remember that much of your customization probably took place over a period of days, weeks or months. Cumulatively, that might represent hours of tweaking. Re-tweaking will take no less time. Spread some of it out for your own sanity.
What have I forgotten? Probably plenty, and I'm sure someone else might be able to provide other, equally valid approaches, or suggestions which complement those offered above.

Very useful post. However I have to say that all those steps are necessary even if you have a FP2 phone with UDP. From my experience all that UDP does is to screw up your phone even more after a firmware upgrade. It's always better to start with a clean slate anyway

• WRT54G Ver 1.1 Firmware Upgrade

I was experiencing some connection problems that were causing me to cycle the power on my router a few times a week. I decided to upgrade the firmware to 4.21.1 hoping to resolve this issue. The firmware upgrade completed and all configuration settings were put back as I had before the upgrade.
Since the update, I cannot connect to the internet through my DSL when connecting through the router. I can connect to the internet when my computer is directly connected to the modem. I called Linksys and I was told to reset the router three times. Had no results.
Can anyone help me out with this? Or is there a place where I can download the old firmware that I originally had?
I have a WRT54G ver 1.1 and Bellsouth DSL
Thanks
(Edited post for guideline compliance. Thanks!)
Message Edited by JOHNDOE_06 on 11-20-2007 08:55 AM

--Update--
I solved the problem. The Bellsouth DSL modem is in bridge mode after it is either reset (hard button) or configured via the web utility.
WITHOUT connecting the router to the modem, configure the router to be PPPoE insted of DHCP. If the router is connected to the modem while still in DHCP mode, the modem will assume the router is a computer. This will kick the modem out of bridge mode.
So the steps to solve the problem are:
1) Disconnect ethernet between router and modem.
2) Reset modem / put in bridge mode.
3) Connect to router via web utility and configure PPPoE settings.
4) Connect router and DSL modem via ethernet cable.
(Mod Note: Edited due to non-compliance of forum guidelines.)

• When is the HomeFusion firmware upgrade and higher datacaps coming??

Was told that end of February that the firmware upgrade to correct the daily disconnects with the HomeFusion hardware was going to be rolled out. Nothing as of yet.
Also want at least 50GB of data for the $120 per month package. There's no way 30GB will ever be enough for a family of 4 in a 1 month billing cycle. Hell even 50GB would barely cover it.
Time to end the illusion that datacaps are in place for network congestion and that it's all about screwing the customer out of more money. A residential LTE connection should not cost anyone $120 plus taxes and fees and another $100 for the 10GB in overages on a ridiculous low amount of data allowance.

I think 150 GB/month where we should be at for $120.00/ month. I mean a fixed lte home service . 50 GB for $90/ month and the $60/ month plan should be 30 GB ill keep dreaming  lol.
P.S. I called yesterday about the firmware now its planned for mid march this does suck.

• Did scan to Diskstation stop connecting with firmware upgrade CLP1CN1516AR

I use my HP 8600 N911g almost daily to scan to LAN network attached storage, in this case a Diskstation. As of today I cannot scan to the Diskatation any more, it just will not connect. I have tried powering off in turn the printer, the router, the diskstation, letting each sit for 1 or more minutes before restarting, to no avail. I can print from my laptop to the printer, i can ping it via IP address and computername, I can open up its web interface and test the network locations - four are defined on the Diskstation, none of them connect. I created a new definition of an existing folder on the Diskstation and tested that, it also could not connect. From my laptop (Windows 7 SP1 64) I can access the Diskstation folders fine through both Windows Explorer and a command line interface. HP diagnostic tools on my laptop all run fine except for the scan test, which pulls in both sheets of paper from the ADF tray but the second sheet does not quite get ejected and the test locked up my printer; cancel and power button did nothing so I had to unplug it. I noticed yesterday that my printer said it was downloading an upgrade but eventually it aborted. Today I ran HP 8600 tools and it said I was up to date. It reported firmware version CLP1CN1516AR, which I understand was released 7/20/15. Could this upgrade be the problem? My printer is connected via ethernet to a LinkSys router that is bridged wirelessly to  a Verizon FiOS ActionTec router to which the Diskstation is ethernet attached. This system has been in place for a year or so. My laptop, bridged router and printer are all within 3 feet of each other, the ActionTec is 30' away through two walls, my latop rates the ActionTec 4/5 bars in Windows icon or -59 dBm from  Xirrus WiFi Inspector, from near to the printer. Vey frustrating. Any ideas, please?

I was called by HP Support, they reached me Friday just as I was about to leave to go on vacation for two weeks. They had read this thread and knew it was more than just me. They acknowledged a problem and assigned me a case number but closed my ticket, I need to call them when I am back on the 24th August so we can work to find a solution. They will open a new ticket then.
I hope HP will contact you and open a ticket for you and resolve the problem and issue a new firmware upgrade including the fix so that I can try it when I return, but that might be a stretch as presumably it goes through some QA testing before they release it. At least they should start working on it with your help.
Please keep us posted on any developments.
For a workaround I enabled scan to computer and email scan. I tried webscan interface and it scans but when finished it says click the save button to save but there is no save button, the two scan and cancel buttons remain unchanged from before initiating the scan. I tried both of those and they do what they say they do and don't save. I can see a preview mini image of the page and if I hover over it it presents a series of icons including a diskette but when I click that I can go through the motions of saving but the file is empty. The email scan is easiest to use, I send to myself and it takes a few minutes after scanning to appear in my inbox and sent folder. From there I can download to NAS or forward as an email. But compared to scan to network it is much slower and more labor intensive.
Good luck, both of you (pcni & greylisted).

• Has the cloud firmware upgrade being fixed yet?

I am looking to buy a new router (E3200 or greater)
All the reviews are complaining about that specific firmware upgrade that users` have been forced to with the cloud thing.
Is this still in place/happening?

This issue was clarified in this site: http://blogs.cisco.com/home/update-answering-our-customers-questions-about-cisco-connect-cloud-2/. These are the items tackled in that blog: Linksys customers are not required to sign-up for the Cisco Connect Cloud service and they are able to opt-out of signing up for an account, Customers can set-up and manage their Linksys router without signing up for a Cisco Connect Cloud account, Cisco will not arbitrarily disconnect customers from the Cisco Connect Cloud service based on how they are using the Internet, Cisco Linksys routers are not used to collect information about Internet usage, Cisco only retains information that is necessary to sign up for and support the Cisco Connect Cloud service , Cisco will not push software updates to customers’ Linksys routers when the auto-update setting is turned off.

• N96 crash during firmware upgrade & unrecoverable

Finally Nokia sent me a text to say that a firmware upgrade - from 10 to 11 was available. I've tried to install it after first backing up the phone. During upgrade where the upgrade software continually referred to connection problems (while the Nokia PC Suit showed the connection to be in place) with about 5 minutes of remaining installation time the installer gave up. It asked me to turn off the phone and reconnect which I did. The installer could not recover the installation. I now have a phone that will turn on but just has a blank screen and PC Suit won't recognise it so I can't restore from the backup.
Any ideas? Does my second N96 have to be sent back to Nokia?
This is all becoming rather silly...

B4 you update I found this improves the way it works
before you connect phone by USB
Plug in charger and leave in (make sure its turned on at the wall socket)
1st switch to line 1 if you have 2 lines
set profile on genral
turn off password on boot
turn OFF pincode request
turn OFF fixed dial
IF you have Lights ON installed uninstall it (you can put it back after)
if You have any other prog that RUNS all the time Like Lights ON unistall that too. (eg rotate me on N95)
TURN OFF PHONE
remove SD card
TURN ON PHONE to get a clean boot with nothing running in background
now make sure you connect in PC suite mode when you plug in USB
run P C suite click on Spanner TOOLS
go down to software update
NOW WAIT if it says there is a new version or it loads new drivers
there are 5 or 6 cable drivers that it MUST load before it starts it only does that once the 1st time
Now all will go well
most of the crashes are caused by either a prog running on the phone or the pin or password being set and the phone cant reboot or a flat battery

• PETITION: This is what I would like to see in a new firmware upgrade for the MTP ZEN TO

FIXES:
-Ensures correct playback on the player of Zencast audio content that has been transferred using Zencast organiser. Remaining time is displayed correctly, and rewind / fast-forward functions can be used
- Allows users to transfer tracks between folders on the player when using a program such as Creative Mediasource [THIS IS NEEDED FOR ALL MTP PLAYERS]
- Allows charging via USB when the player is not being used by a program or is low on battery [THIS FEATURE SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN REMOVED BY MTP UPGRADE]
ENHANCEMENTS / ADDITIONAL FEAUTRES [I HAVE LISTED THESE BY MY PERSONAL ORDER OF PREFERENCE]:
) Allows the playback of Audible content types ,2,3,4 on the player, via a plug-in in Audible Manager
2) Adds bookmarking feature to the player
3) Adds SmartVolume EQ feature to the player
4) Adds DJ menu to the player
5) Allows user to partition a section of the player for data transfer
6) Allows user to synchronise tasks from Outlook to the player
7) Allows TXT files/ Ebooks to be stored/ viewed on the player
8) Adds BassBoost EQ feature to the player
PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO URGE CREATIVE TO INTRODUCE AT LEAST SOME OF THESE FIXES / FEATURES IN A FIRMWARE UPGRADE FOR THE MTP ZEN TOUCH - also please feel free to add other suggestions that would improve the functionality of the Zen Touch

• Firmware upgrade crippled cp1025nw

LaserJet CP1025nw color: was working flawlessly
received email from HP 4/3/2012, recommending firmware upgrade to v 20120130.
ran upgrade 4/3/2012 from iMac, OS10.6.8.
got error: 'update failed'
print queue says 'printing', cp1025nw doesn't respond.
printer lights:  orange triangle enclosed exclamation mark plus green semicircle
This means: fatal error, per the user manual.
manual instructs to turn off, unplug, plug-in, turn on.  I did this several times.
printer lights still indicate: fatal error.
HP utility says: device status: unknown, service ID: unknown, FW version: unknown, driver version 2.0.20110727
tried to print configuration page: got error 'cannot establish two-way communication with the device'
printer and computer are connected with USB cable,  (this cable / port communicates without issue to Epson inkjet printer)
Tried printing from Dell laptop: Latitude E6410 with USB cable: Windows XP professional, 2002, service pack 3.
has routinely printed from this computer previously.
error message in printer queue: 'error - printing',
Dell said 'found new hardware'  tried to install with HP cd-rom
error message said 'the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software'
ran the HP print diagnostic utility HPPDU.exe file from the Dell with USB cable: 'Everything checks out okay with your printer'
print test page: no response from the cp1025nw
What should I try next?

Since my last post I’ve retried the same troubleshooting described before, this time just from the PC.  The result is still the same.  Lights on the cp1025nw indicate “fatal error”.
Does anyone know how to put this printer into ‘bootcode’ mode?  I’ve read about this in some other posts about HP firmware updates trashing printers.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=...
and
http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/laser/63535
Is there some combination of button presses that sends the printer into bootcode so it is ready to accept the firmware?

• HDMI output not working since firmware upgrade

I would appreciate troubleshooting tips for getting the HDMI output to work. I just tried it recently for the first time in a long while, approximately 4 weeks after doing the firmware update to 2.2. When I did it before, plugging in the HDMI cable would automatically start output to my HD TV. Now that is no longer the case. Changing the HDMI output from "Auto" to "720p" does not make a difference either.
Otherwise, everything works well and I've been satisfied with my Creative 7 to date. I have installed several apps so it could be that there is a conflict and nothing related to the firmware upgrade.
Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I've received my refurbished device for about a week now. The HDMI still doesn't work either with Zii Video or a 3rd party app MoboPlayer. ?I am tempted to reinstall the firmware upgrade again. Is it ok to try this or is it only a one time attempt?
Perhaps this should be a separate thread but are any of the "Phone 2 SD" apps compatible with the Ziio 7? Whenever I use the "Move to SD card" option, there is still no program moved to the external SD card. ?I have a Ziio 7 with 6 GB of memory as well as a 6GB micro SD card. ?My memory settings are:
- SD Card: total space - 5.43GB; Available space - 5.43GB
- Device media storage: Total space - 2.48GB; Available Space - 2.3 GB
- System storage: Total Space - .97 GB; Available space - .59GB
In Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, the "On SD Card" tab lists several programs lists several apps but none of them are actually on the external SD card.

• Sky Router firmware upgraded - can no longer login with credentials

I usually have no problems accessing my sky router (white Sky Hub with ADSL) via the page 192.168.0.1 however I tried to login the other day and was greeted with an updated looking summary screen - all very nice I thought, let's go and explore! However when I put in the usual details - username: admin, password: sky I get prompted to input my details again which is very odd. Now I know that I am the only one who accesses the router in this way as my flatmate has never logged in and probably never will so I can only assume the firmware upgrade has caused the password/username to change. I logged in the other week and the password is saved in my browser so I am sure I am not making any mistake here. I have tried in chrome and IE just in case but I have the same issue in both. Has the new firmware brought a new default password? I cannot find any reference to this anywhere on this site so it seems unlikely. I would rather not reset my router to default settings as I have devices with static IP addresses and port forwarding setup that will take me some time to reconfigure. I don't think there is any feature to backup the config unless you are actually logged in to the router but would love to be worng about this. I am guessing I will have to bite the bullet and reset to factory defaults but would welcome any help or suggestions if possible?

After review the events of the morning.....
I normally keep my routers in the basement where my eth jacks all hub.  High on a shelf, I got reasonable coverage on 2.4Ghz even on the second floor.  I went to this router for the Dual mode, but found the 5Ghz didn't make it sufficiently well to the second floor.  So it was moved to the first floor, on a counter.  That morning the router started acting up a bit, not bringing an iphone online.  It was looked at - and a couple of post cards that had been placed on top, removed.  Air flow was not blocked around the sides in any way - just a few pieces of card stock on top to interfere with convection off the top.
1.  There is no way to look at temperature - maybe the device doesn't even know its own temp.
2.  There is no fan that I can discern.  Clearly, creating a device that is designed to sit on a flat surface in a home environment ought to take into consideration "normal impediments to air flow".   Temp controlled fans is simple, well proven tech.
3.  This design is small, has TWO radios, sits horizonal (thus is going to have lousy convection) - seems to me an engineer ought to have given more thought to not only providing the user with easy to obtain data (temp), alternative methods (fan/vertical mounting) and/or self-protection (to hot, I'm shutting down rather than corrupt my database).
Having spent millions on Cisco gear in my career, I would have hoped that Cisco+Linksys would have a little more Cisco and a little less Linksys.

• PC-Suite sync fails after Firmware upgrade of E65

After firmware upgrade of E65 PC-Suite stops syncing Calendar & Contacts from outlook. No error messages, just "0 entries has been updated".
- PC-Suite updated to 7.0.9.2
- Outlook 2003
- XP Prof.
Any ideas?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

The funny thing is - the notes are synced???? If I restore some old contacts they'll double up in outlook, so I think the problem is, that the sync app doesn't see the outlook contact & calendar folder.
Does somebody has an idea?
