Flash Help Index search hangs on "a"
If you use the keyword search on the Index tab of a FlashHelp
site (RoboHelp6), it works fine until you try to return to the "a"
part of the list. Typing "a" hangs up the search and you have to
refresh the page for anything to work again.
Here's the pattern:
1. User searches for a letter that is not "a" on the Index
tab
2. User then type "a" in the Index tab's entry field and
presses Enter. The whole page hangs up and won't do anything until
you refresh the page.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any fixes?
Okay...after four hours or so of uninstalling/reinstalling, I
finally figured it out. Vista wanted me to run it as an
administrator. For whatever reason, that must've been what was
causing the weird lock-up. It works fine if I do that. Funny thing
was I wasn't running it as administrator last week. Must be a
stupid Microsoft update.
Oh, well....

Error using index search field in flash help
Hello again,
Hopefully this will be an easy question. In Flash help, when
on the Index tab, if I use the search box to search for an index
word, the following error displays: "A script in this movie is
causing Adobe Flash Player 9 to run slowly. If it continues to run,
your computer may become unresponsive. Do you wish to abort
the script?" Note: It usually works the first time I search for a
word, but if I search for a second word it gives the error.
If I tell it NOT to abort the script, the computer still runs
slowly. If I tell it to go ahead and abort the script, Internet
Explorer freezes up.
Is there something that I can change in the code anywhere to
prevent that from happening in the first place? Alternately, is
there a way to change the skin to completely remove that input
field? It's not necessary to our process to have it there, so long
as the index entries are there with the scroll bar.I tried to modify the skin, and what ends up happening is
that if I remove the input field, the entire index disappears. I've
tried modifying the xml file to simply remove the single line of
code that calls the input field for the index, and again... the
index displays as empty at that point, and unusable. This may be
due to my ruidmentary (at best) skills with flash, xml, etc.
I asked our in-house web team and Flash team to look at the
index issue, and they discovered something strange. The index only
breaks if the index word entered starts with the letter A. Has that
ever happened to anyone else? We’ve tried multiple help
projects on multiple boxes (computers), and the results have been
very inconsistent. Sometimes the index breaks, sometimes not, but
ONLY when the index entry starts with an A. -

Why is Flash Help/Search function so worthless?
Is it just me or is the Flash help function the worst help
function ever?
In other software you get the results you were looking for in
seconds
in Flash everytime you do a search you get like a hundred
different
search results and usually none cover the topic you were
looking for.
Its often easier to search on google than use the internal
help function
Why is it so hard to only display relevant results?
Could anyone teach me how to use the search function cause I
dont want
to read 1000 pages just to find out the difference between
align and distribute
options etc.
Thx /AquaStealthIt seems this article was written just for you! :)

Diff between index , search help , match code
wht is Diff between index , search help , match code
Hi,
There is no difference between Search helps and match code objects.
Search helps are the Advanced concept of Match codes.
SAP Converted match codes to Search helps.
Index :
An Index is a copy of database table having few numbers of fields. This copy is always in sorted form. As we know, Sorted data would always have a speed access from a database table. Hence, we use an index for the table while reading the database records. Index also contains a pointer pointing towards actual database table so that it can access fields that are not contained in the Index

My updated help file only opens the TOC/Index/Search
I have to update an old project that uses WinHelp, so I installed RH X5 on an old XP machine. The original help file always opened in a 2-pane window with the ToC on the left and the default topic on the right. My "updated" help file only opens the ToC/Index/Search screen in a single pane. How do I get the 2-pane window to appear?
This is what I'm looking forI have edited the topic title. The idea is to spell out the problem in the body.

HELP!!!! JavaHelp Search "hangs"
Hey everyone,
I have a JavaHelp 2.0 project that I've built with
j2sdk1.4.2_04 and jdk1.5.0_06 using RH X5. For the last major build
(a few weeks ago) in which the JavaHelp was build using 1.4.2_04,
the search worked fine. Now, the search "hangs" after you type in a
query. Same thing happens when I switch my registry to point to
jdk1.5.0_06 (which is what the author is going to change over to
soon.
Any ideas how to fix this or what could be the problem? This
is my third Java related / RoboHelp problem I've encountered in the
past 3 days with RoboHelp (the other involved a problem with a Java
plug-in's inability to display the TOC correctly in a WebHelp
output in a different project)
Thanks,

Flash CS6 constant, prolonged hanging when using tablet
Hi-
I searched for similar problems in this Flash forum, and wanted to express that i'm having almost exactly the same problems as the Photoshop CS6 users in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4508751
At least once every 5-8 minutes while working (mostly using brush/eraser and scrubbing through the timeline), Flash will simply start "hanging" and become unresponsive for nearly a minute at 100% CPU usage. Other applications will still be perfectly usable. I'm using a Wacom Cintiq 12wx, which were updated to the most recent drivers the other day to see if that would fix the problem. (It didn't, obviously)
Needless to say this is a pretty big issue since it's constantly interrupting work. Any ideas/help would be much, much appreciated.
Here's a partial system info (For my early 2008 mac pro) pulled from the photoshop system report since no option exists in flash to generate one:

I opened an old WinHelp project into my new RoboHelp 7. When
I generate the CHM, even with the Project Settings in RoboHelp set
to French and running in a French Windows operating system (MS
Windows XP Pro 2002 SP 2), the CHM output is still in English. The
buttons display in English (Contents, Index, Search, Print, Hide
buttons). The title bar of the CHM also says "HTML
Help" even though the project title in the Project
Settings is "Aide en ligne...".
My Windows Regional Settings through the Control Panel -
Regional Options tab is set French (France). On the Languages tab I
under Text Services and Input Languages, Details button, I selected
French (France) French. On the Advanced tab I selected French. Then
I rebooted.
On the language bar on my Task pane, I selected FR. The CHM
still displays in English.
Please help! I have to produce 4 CHMS in languages other than
English today.
Thanks!GinaL, would you be able to give us an update? Did the CHM
files look ok on a PC with a true French OS installed?
To avoid having to rewrite everything, I've written the
following info/instructions for my team -- though I'm not yet sure
they're 100% correct:
After I reported this issue to Adobe, they worked on the
problem for several days. They even sent me a new
HtmSingleSourceHtmlHelp.dll file that was supposed to solve the
problem. But it didn't work correctly. No matter what contortions
we put ourselves through, we couldn't get both of these items
correct in the CHM file at the same time, namely:
Index compiled in correct alphabetical order accdg to the
language of the help project.
Correctly translated help title showing in the caption,
regardless of the user's Windows regional settings. (For example,
we wanted "FORMS-Hilfe zu FORMS 5-3" to appear as the caption of
the German version of FORMS help, even if our regional settings
were set to English.)
I think we'd all agree that the index has to be in
alphabetical order. So from what I've seen, this is what we have to
do when compiling a non-English version of help using RH7:
1. Set up the project with the foreign name.
2. Set the language in the project settings. And in the
Project Settings dialog, click Advanced and check out the LNG File
tab to make sure it's using a translated version.
3. Ensure that the Window Caption setting is correct in each
window included in the project. (On RoboHelp's Project tab, open
the Windows folder, double-click each window in turn, and check the
settings.)
4. Set the Language setting in the HHP file to Language=[hex
value for that language]. I found a bunch of them listed on this
web page. Someone else might be able to find a better source:
https://svn.origo.ethz.ch/scoop/es_scoop_60/library/i18n/locale/nls/i18n_nls_lcid_tools.e
5. Change your Windows regional settings to the same language
as the help project. (Reboot if prompted.)
6. Recommended, for safety's sake: Delete the CPD file.
7. Open the project and compile using RH7.
8. Check the index's sort order -- is it in alphabetical
order according to the language of the project?
9. Check the help caption -- make sure it's not "HTML Help".
Note: Any customized buttons in your CHM should appear
correctly translated, but other buttons (Contents, Index, Search)
still appear in English -- at least they do on my PC, even though I
did step 2 above. We need to check whether those buttons appear
correctly when the PC is actually running a true foreign version of
Windows, and not just with temporarily adjusted Windows settings.
OR -- is anyone else able to get these to appear translated in the
CHM file?
Does anyone have anything to add? Other solutions? Easier
procedures? Better results to report?
Thank you

How could I change the heade in Flash Help
Hi everybody,
I am pretty new to this forum, that is I just began to probe
with RH7, and it is going well so far, because of your help and the
technical service's help from Adobe.
I tried different layers to see which one is the most
appropriate for my project, and the Flash is very interesting.
However, I would like to put a logo or a text in the header
(the coloured one), and I have no clue how, and what tool I should
use.
Is anybody familiar with Flash Help tweaking?
Thank you,
BogdanI'm not familiar with the .fsw file type. Where are you
finding that file? Is it named skin_background_tb?
Try searching for skin_background_tb.fla in your project's
source files. I think .fla is your best bet.
It's been long enough since I've started a brand new
FlashHelp project that I can't remember if the "FlashHelp Default"
skin is included in the project automatically or if you have to
generate the layout with a skin from the gallery before any Flash
skin files appear in your source files. If you haven't done so
already, open the FlashHelp layout dialog, select a skin, and
generate the layout. Once you've done this, you should see a folder
within the !SkinSubFolder! directory that has the name of the skin
you selected. That skin folder should contain all the .fla and .swf
files for the skin. Those .fla files are the ones you would edit to
change the skin. (Whenever you edit a .fla file, you then export it
as a .swf movie to that same skin folder, then generate the layout
again to see the results.) -
Index search freezes complete application
We are using the JavaHelp for the context-sensitive online help functionality in an application. A very strange error occurred:
The index search works fine for many search strings, but for many other search string the complete application freezes. One of these strings is "ab" and strings starting with "ab". This is very annoying, because many german words start with the letter combination "ab". There are other strings which do not work, f.e. strings starting with "orts" and those which do work sometimes, like "ort".
When I am writing, "the application freezes", I mean that you can only stop it via the Windows Task Manager. Since you are loosing all data which had not been safed until searching the help index, the behaviour is not tolerable for our application.
We are working with the de_DE.UTF-8 German locale.
Looking at the threads, we noticed, that one thread was running the isStringInString method of class javax.help.HelpUtilities endlessly.
I found a bug report (6195811 "jdshelp freeze at search with l10n string") which seems to be related to this problem and in which is mentioned the following:
"On de_DE.UTF-8 German locale, the following strings cause freeze.
- <compose> + 'a' + ''' + b + <compose> + 'b' + '''"
This indicates that other people, too, must have the problem.
Now my questions:
Do you have any ideas for a workaround?
Do you know, if it is possible to disable the index search? And if it is possible: How can it be done?
By the way, does anyone know, when JavaHelp 2.0_03 will be published? The quoted bug is mentioned to be fixed in 2.0_03.
Thank you very much!
beapHi beap,
we are facing a similar problem. I filed bug report 6296005.
Do you use JRE 1.5? Our workaround is to use JRE 1.4.2, the bug does not occur with any JRE < 1.5.
When we detect that the user is running JRE 1.5, we just hide the Index tab. In our implementation of BasicHelpUI we do something like this:
public void addNavigator(JHelpNavigator nav) {
if(nav instanceof JHelpIndexNavigator) {
final String java_version = System.getProperty("java.version");
if (java_version.startsWith("1.5")){
return;
super.addNavigator(nav);
}It's an ugly hack but better than a customer who loses important data because our application freezes.
I will provide the help set to Sun so that they can further investigate and hopefully fix this bug. -
I don't comment much, I tend to be the quiet kind of user
that just does my own thing. I am quite upset with Adobe's change
in the help feature in Flash. I understand that things change with
updates. That's a reason i get work sometimes. Someone wants to
update.
I so loved the large amount of useful code and examples
buried in the Help files in previous versions of Flash. Through
these i could riddle my why through a problem. Multiple examples of
how to use something was often the only way to figure out what I
was trying to do.
Are those days now long gone? I hope not. I am not a
programmer, but i do have some programming experience. I am a web
designer. i prefer not to live in binary, classes and the like.
Often these samples worked as idea starters, and answers to late
night prayers when the oil had been burning all too long. You know,
when your head gets fuzzy and you need to go to bed but the project
has to be done....
Well I don' t mean to be the whiner, but is there anything
that can be done about this?
I know there are some samples in there, I flipped through it
for a while, but i feel the quality of the Help menu in Flash has
dropped dramatically. The new neat features in the Help menu and
the nice skin don't measure up to the loss in content. I plan on
working with MX by my side so i can use its Help features, because
CS3 doesn't look like it will do the job.
Anyone else want to comment?
Thanks,
mr_bidinkleI found this thread through a search.
Has Flash help menu been savaged to leave only two headings??
I only have the following two main headings in my Help Menu:
Using Actionscript 2.0 Components
Actionscript 2.0 Components Language Reference
I have bought the Rich Media Project Player and List
Component and they said their help file is also installed.
I cannot see that here either.
Whats going on? Can an Adobe person answer this for
me?? -
Is there an alphabetical HELP index somewhere in Audition CS5.5? Like those in PhotoShop and othere Adobe applications? It's a pain having to dig through the sections trying to find information and the Search doesn't always bring up the information I need.
I've just upgraded my Master Collection to CS5.5 and have to learn Audition quickly - it's very different from SoundBooth and most of the YouTube tutorials focus on Audition 3.0
Any hints about how I can make this move more quickly and smootly?
Many thanks!Although there are some features missing from AA CS5.5 compared to AA3 most of the basic operations are similar. So a video tutorial on AA3 may very well be enough to get you started with CS5.5.
You might find the online help easier to navigate than the built in one.

Contents/Index/Search/Glossary toolbar
The Contents/Index/Search/Glossary toolbar in my WebHelp
project only displays the text for one tab at a time.
For example, by default the project opens with the Contents
tab displayed. You can see the word "Contents" with the blue
background. However, for the rest of the tabs, you can only see the
icons on a white background. If you click on an icon, for example,
the Index icon, then the word "Index" and blue background display.
I want all the tabs to display with their words and on a blue
background at the same time. Can any of you help me? Thanks!Welcome to the forum.
If you are using a skin, it is as simple as double clicking
the skin and setting the colours and text to what you want.
As described, there will no difference between the tab with
focus and the other tabs. Some small difference does assist
usability. -
Help indexer ignors exactmatch.plist what can I do?
I am having two problems:
1. The terms in my exact match plist do not appear in my help index file after using help indexer (file viewed in Text Wrangler). All of the achors are listed.
2. Although my help book appears correctly in the help viewer, only my unique search terms, such as isaac or benny, are found and displyed after a search for help terms. Common terms, such as browse or paste which appear in other help books, are found and displyed for those apps, but not for mine.
I am using Xcode 4.2 but am targeting 10.6
Suggestions please. My last post did not contain enough background. I am completing an app "XSAVER" with the addition of the user help book accessed through the help menu. Everything works fine - the XSAVER help book appears properly the Apple HelpViewer - except for two problems with the Spotlight search in the viewer window.
My help book consists of the required folders and html, css, exact match plist and .helpindex files as listed in the Apple Help PG, Bill Cheesemen's book on Vermont Recipies, and the on-line book More Cocoa Programming. The book is indexed using the X-code 4.2 Help Indexer tool.
Problem 1. Although all of the terms and anchors in the html files are listed in the help index file (viewed in Text Wrangler), none of the terms in the ExactMatch.plist appear there.
Problem 2. I tested Spotlight search in the HelpViewer window against the terms that do appear in the .helpindex file. Common terms - such as copy, paste, cut - produce (0) hits for XSAVER but do produce multiple hits for Apple's and third party apps. On the other hand, terms that are unique to the XSAVER .helpindex file - such as pasty, benny, isaac - do produce hits for XSAVER and (0) hits for Apple's and other apps.
Has anyone experienced and solved these problems?
Thanks in advance
