FMV's, or something of the sort

Is it possible to mix Java2D and Java3D in the same application? i want to make a movie sequence for a game and i figured id just do something in Java3D, but if there are other suggestions out there, i'd be glad to hear it. thanks for all your help.

Not quite on topic, but:
There's a funksome program called 7mimic that lets you rip all the bitmaps & scripts from FF7 (Playstation only) - what shocked me most was that nearly all the backgrounds are 320 x 240, yet even on my massive TV they still look totally smooth. I know that TV is by nature a bit fuzzy, but to fill my screen they're blown up around 10x!

BTW - what features do things like maya and lightwave have that blender doesn't? There's ony a couple of things I've seen that aren't in blender:
Colouring the wireframe (very useful)
Having the wireframe over the top of other rendering (pretty)
But why are they many hundreds of times as large and thousands of times as expesive? (Blender - ~1.5MB, free. Maya ~200MB?, they were attacked for unfair competition by offering their product at the stupidly low price of 1500)

date a lot quickerbut if the game's fun, graphics don't matter - see GTA 1 & 2 - if you're not getting paid, a fun low graphics game will be smaller, easier to make, and will look so old it won't seem to age at all
What about using vector graphics that are pre-rendered just before the game starts? They'll be the right size and highest quality on any viewing device

  • Type casting or something of the sort

    This might sound stupid, but I have a 25 character something such as:
    1hjfu7y4$y*3fji2389561##k
    and I do not know what type it is. It is not a string though, and that is the problem. Is there any sort of equivalent in AS to type casting of c++? Some sort of way to dynamically make this into a string?

    typeof():
    trace(typeof(1hjfu7y4$y*3fji2389561##k));

    Thank you. I have heard of Logic Pro 7, but I have never personally used it. I'm still growing in the world of Composition, and I know that it is something I will be studying in one of my Computer Music classes coming up for my degree. I think it is something I will look into getting once I can justify the price of it. I guess for the time being, I will continue to play and grow in my ability to use and take advantage of GB, and then see what I can do about or with Logic Pro when I'm ready. The thought of spending $1000 for a program is hard to bite, because I've already spent a lot to produce my music, not only electronic music, but also chamber music and so on. I had no idea it would be so expensive to dive deep into the world of composition! lol.
    Finale 2007: $500
    Sibelius 4: $500
    Jam Packs: $400
    Midi Keyboard Interface: $100
    PowerBook: $1700
    Printer for printing scores and analysis: $150
    Logic Pro 7: Oy!
    As you can see it adds up very quickly...that doesn't even include my personal instruments and study materials.
    Thank you for your input, as I haven't really worked much with LP, and therefore didn't know which features are available. I will talk with some of my Composition buddies, and professors and see what they have to say as well, and who knows, I may be able to get the express version through one of them.

  • How to Control the Sorting Order of iPhone Contacts from Outlook?

    In a series of editing steps we've loaded ca. 1,900 personal and business contacts from Outlook into a 1st gen iPhone with 2.0.1 software on it. To our surprise we found that while most of the entries were listed and sorted by company, certain entries were listed and sorted by the person's name. It looked random and there didn't seem to be any way to control it on the iPhone.
    While troubleshooting the problem we synced up the iPhone with an empty Address Book on a MacBook Pro and found that the sort order flag was indeed set differently on these entries. When we changed the sorting flag of a contact in the Mac's Address Book to "Company" it also changed on the iPhone after the next sync.
    Problem: In our business environment it is impossible to switch to Macs for contact administration. We need to do it from Outlook. This is one of several features needed for the adoption of iPhones.
    Question: Is there a way to control this flag on the individual iPhone contact entries from Outlook Contacts?

    Well, I think we figured it out.
    Outlook doesn't offer a sorting flag on person or company name. Instead it uses a separate "File As" string. The problem with our contacts was that this "File As" string was frequently edited to be something else than exactly the personal or company name, e.g. it was set to an abbreviated company name. Once we set the "File As" to any of the defaults offered, i.e. person or company name, the sorting flag in iPhone was properly set through the synchronization.
    Obviously, the application logic compares the content of these fields in Outlook and decides how to set the flag. If it can't find the company name in "File As" it defaults to person.
    This was an expensive holdup for us. It cost us 2 man days to figure it out. Is there any place where such application logic is described?

  • Controlling the sort order for a column?

    I have a column which uses strings that I want to sort on. But, I don't want to do simple string sorting. Can I effect the sort order somehow? Maybe enumerate the values and assign integers to them?
    For example, I want to use Low, Medium, and High. Or maybe: L-, L, L+, M-, M, M+, H-, H, H+
    Any pointers on how to do this?

    Todd,
    Not knowing what you're trying to sort, it is difficult to make specific suggestions. Basically, two approaches come to mind. 1) start the lines of the column you want to sort with some type of sort code or 2) place that sort code in another column and sort on two columns - possible hiding the one with the codes.
    The next problem is designing a code that fits your situation. In the example you gave something like 1L-,2L,3L,...,8H,9H may work because there are only 9 categories. If more than 9, two digit numbers may work but remember to use leading zeros to pad single digit numbers.
    The code could also be alpha characters with relevance such as "Auto", "Clot", "Food", "Hous", "Misc", etc. But again, if these alphabetic categories are not in the order you like you may have to precede them with some sequence device to get what you want. Maybe something like "aFood", "bClot", "cHous", etc. would work. Designing a code applicable to a given situation that one can easily remember is not always easy.
    Hope this gives to something to think about and if you care to give more details you'll surely get some specific suggestions.

  • Recent bugs? Click when clicking off/Related to the Sort Artist/Album/Track

    I've had my G5 for about a year now and it bit the dust, 4 days before my year was up :-D So I got it replaced but since then I have noticed something odd. I have clicking turned off but I can still hear it faintly in my headphones.
    Also, I began tagging my library with Album Artist and using Artist for a featured musician or remixer. Well to keep my sanity, I used the Sorting options to keep everything together in the transition. Well, after I got about 500 tracks tagged, I plugged in my iPod to sync and I have multiple duplicate artist entries on my iPod. I remove the Sorting options and it's fine. Is this a bug or feature No seriously, has anyone else experienced this? I have the latest iTunes update.

    I'm also sometimes getting some feedback when I change songs, a sound that ramps up then the track plays. Possibly hard drive spinning up? I have had this issue with my last iPod, I technically have until tomorrow until my full year is up so I may take it in again.

  • Capturing the SQL that caused the sort-extents breach in TEMP

    We occasionally get ad-hoc queries in our production database
    which cause "ORA-1630: max # extents reached in temp segment for tablespace TEMP" alert-log entries.
    (The user is chewing 750Mb of sort-space).
    No user is "owning-up" to these queries, so I wish to track them down myself.
    I originally created a system-trigger as follows:-
    begin
    if (is_servererror (1630))
    then
    insert sort_breach
    select iv.sid,
    iv.serial#,
    iv.username,
    iv.osuser,
    iv.extents,
    sq.sql_text
    from
    (select
    ss.sid,
    ss.serial#,
    ss.username,
    ss.osuser,
    su.extents,
    su.sqladdr
    from v$sort_usage su,
    v$session ss
    where ss.serial# = su.session_num) iv,
    v$sqlarea sq
    where iv.sqladdr = sq.address;
    end if;
    end;
    However, this has proved ineffective, because v$sort_usage is EMPTY by the time the trigger is fired (duoh..)(it may also be that I need to use v$session.prev_sql_addr, not v$session.sql_address - please comment !).
    As there are generally upwards of 250 concurrent users, I suspect that I am condemned to the following in order to narrow down my search:-
    begin
    if (is_servererror (1630))
    then
    insert into cfm.sort_breach (SID, SERIAL#, USERNAME, OSUSER, SQL_TEXT, sorts)
    select ss.sid,
    ss.serial#,
    ss.username,
    ss.osuser,
    sq.sql_text,
    sq.sorts
    from
    v$session ss,
    v$sqlarea sq
    where ss.sql_address = sq.address
    and sq.sorts > 0
    and ss.status = 'ACTIVE'
    end if;
    end;
    Question(1) : By the time the trigger is fired, is my sorting session actually ACTIVE ?
    Question(2) : Have any of you come up with a better route to this particular grail ?
    Regards.

    Have you discounted the possiblility that the DBA is responsible? For instance, creating unique indexes generates sorts; so adding a primary key to a large table or inserting millions of rows into a table without dropping the primary key could blow the temp tablespace.
    Anyway, why don't you use something like the following query to establish which users are generating excessive disk sorts. That will give you a much smaller pool of suspects to investigate in greater depth.
    cheers, APC
    This comes from Gurry & Corrigan (I think), anyway I half-inched it from somewhere: it's very useful.

  • Hi, here's something for the more experienced to ponder.

    Hi, here's something for the more experienced to ponder.
    As of the past week or two my service has been taking nose dives periodically.
    The telephone service has also been affected. (noise and static like squeals)
    This is not a new problem, it has been ongoing for three years.
    I have repeatedly asked for a new pair (copper) to no avail.
    We went the route of replacement modems, data rate changes, Verizon presidential appeals and the problem "seems" to correct itself with cooler weather in the fall.
    I called repair service for the telephone just Friday and met with an understanding person on Verizon's end. She heard the noise on the line and listened patiently to my internet troubles. She assured me that she could schedule someone to fix the problem on Saturday, 6/16/2012 I thanked her and let it go for Friday.
    This morning at about 9:00 AM I got a call from a Verizon representative, not about the  problem, but rather about how the representative at repair service handled the call. I said the call handling was a ten on their scale. But when the question was asked about if I would recommend Verizon to someone, I had to ask that it could be repeated because of the noise on the line.
    It's pretty obvious that I didn't give a good mark as the answer to that question.
    But to the technical side of this to get people to ponder on this, here's my PRESENT Transceiver Statistics, copy and pasted for you to ponder....
    Transceiver Statistics
    Transceiver Revision     A2pB020b3.d20h
    Vendor ID Code               4D54
    Line Mode                        ADSL_2plus
    Data Path                         FAST
    Transceiver Information    Down Stream Path    Up Stream Path
    DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec)                    358                         747
    Margin (dB)                                     16.0                         9.9
    Line Attenuation (dB)                      62.5                        38.3
    Transmit Power (dBm)                    15.5                         12.4
    ( NO EDITING WAS DONE TO THE NUMBERS ABOVE, Formatting was done, adding spaces, to attempt to make it clearer to read. )
    I did not make any rude or crude remarks, because I think I may be on a watch list as my last two messages were edited and then deleted. But the bottom line is that I am not a "happy camper".
    Further food for thought; my filter is located in the demarcation box, from there to the modem is a home run with approved wire. An additional filter is installed after the "voice line" comes into the house from the demarcation box for the whole house.
    Line to the pole is new, maybe three pair, I don't remember. Distance to the central office is about two miles, BUT there is some sort of device installed in the lines between here and there, according to what was said by previous repair personnel.
    This is the third year with these problems.
    Any thoughts?, anyone?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks Mr. Smith,
    I'll try and get back in after the dust settles and let you know how it goes.
    If I can't, thanks again!

  • I need sorting VI that returns the sorted array element's positions in the unsorted array

    I need a VI that will very quickly (n log n) sort a 1D array of doubles.  This VI should not only output the sorted array, but for each of the sorted array elements, it should also output that sorted array element's position in the unsorted array.  So for example if the input array were:
    unsorted_array
    4.1
    2.3
    7.0
    5.6
    10.2
    Then the output arrays would be:
    sorted_array
    2.3
    4.1
    5.6
    7.0
    10.2
    indices_array
    1 (the value 2.3 is located at position 1 in the unsorted_array)
    0 (the value 4.1 is located at position 0 in the unsorted_array)
    3 (the value 5.6 is located at position 3 in the unsorted_array)
    2 (the value 7.0 is located at position 2 in the unsorted_array)
    4 (the value 10.2 is located at position 4 in the unsorted_array)
    This way I could generate the sorted_array using just the indices_array and the unsorted_array.  Has anyone written a nifty piece of code to do this?  I did some research on (n log n) sorting algorithms but most of them use recursion which I don't know how to do in LabVIEW.  It would also be nice to have an algorithm like this that could sort an array of strings.
    cheers,
    Richard

    Try something like the attached example (LabVIEW 7.0). I think it does what you need.
    (To understand the code, it is important to know that arrays of clusters are sorted by the first element in the cluster).
    Sort array itself sorts also array of strings, so you could just substitute, keeping the rest of the code the same.
    Sort array uses a variation of quicksort, so it should have about NlogN complexity.
    (If you think you only need the array of indices to later generate the sorted array, it does not make much sense to even do it. To get the indices, you need to sort the array anyway. You should just sort the plain array directly.

  • The 'sort columns' default behavior

    It seems the new sort columns remove the word "The" by default in a title listing. I'm curious to know if this action can be removed.
    Also, since it is apparently possible to pre-program sort column behavior, is it possible to always reverse to lastname, firstname in the sort composer column?

    I just thought since iTunes now comes pre-programmed to alphabetize without the "The" first, it might be possible to revert it to original behavior.
    I don't know if it's something that can be reverted, short of going back to a previous version of iTunes or finding something (a script?) to strip the entries in the Sort Name field for those songs.
    Looking at the tracks in my Library, it seems that at the point of updating, iTunes went through and stripped the initial 'The' from all the song titles and placed that in the Sort Name field. Tracks that don't start with 'The' and maybe similar articles like 'A' (I can't think of any in my library to check) do not have anything in the Sort Name field, and are thus sorted normally by the full title.
    The behavior of the program hasn't changed, but the song data that it operates on has.
    WRT iPod and contacts- last name and first name are two different fields in the contact information- the same switch is possible in AddressBook. But (and this is a BIG but) if, when entering the contact into AddressBook, you enter the full name into one field-either First Name or Last Name- you cannot change the order.
    What the iPod is doing is the same as you clicking another column heading in iTunes.

    Hi,experts
      As you know, in default case , the alv report will display two sort buttons(ascending ,descending) on its toolbar , So How to remove the sort buttons on toolbar in ALV report?
      Thanks for your help .

    Hi guixin,
    1. Before calling REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY
    2. Write this code :
    data : excl type SLIS_T_EXTAB.
    data : exclwa type SLIS_EXTAB.
    exclwa = '&OUP'.
    append exclwa to excl.
    exclwa = '&ODN'.
    append exclwa to excl.
    3. Then while calling the FM,
       pass this parameter also .
    IT_EXCLUDING     = excl

    Welcome to the world of digital media. Your can't really transfer it. I don't know what the rules are about transferring to your spouse but I do know that in some cases when you die, your heirs cannot inherit your digital media. This is why there is still an advantage to buying the CD since the usage rights belong to whomever holds the physical media.
    A possible workaround is to burn the songs to a music CD with yout account (tracks only without song titles) and then having your wife upload it as a regular music CD onto her account. It's been a while since i've done this so I'm not sure if it would work now.
    Please note that I'm not advocating copyright and/or TOS violations. I'm only suggesting ways to copy music for your own personal use which has traditonally been permitted. I only did this because I wanted to convert iTunes songs to mp3 files so I could burn them onto a data CD for use in my car. It would make sense that since married couples are a joint entity, this would be personal use.
    Also, I'm not a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice.

  • A better way to Re-Order the Sort in Pivot view ?

    Hello,
    Question first- Is there a better way to do this?
    Background- Have a simple pivot table w/ requirements to put the Status column in order that makes sense to the business not alphabetical.
    Example, # of Service Req with Status needs to be listed as Assigned, Accepted, Completed, Closed, Re-assigned.
    My solution was to create a column iin table view, use a CASE statement to say when Accepted =1 etc. I then sorted ASC, hid the column in table view and then pivot view I added Status column and hid the new CASE column. I am getting the results I expected but I was wondering if there was a better way to do this?
    Thanks- Neally

    As far as the Presentation Layer is concernd (i.e., in Answers) your way is the best I can think of. The only way you can sort a list of values apart from a way the system could automatically determine (e.g., alphabetically, chronologically, numerically, etc.) is to create your own definition. Without human intervention or customized rules, there is no way any system would know that "C" should come before "S" (as in "Assigned" and "Accepted", or that "O" should come before "L" as in "Completed" and "Closed").
    Since the system knows how to order numbers (e.g., 1,2,3, etc.), it makes sense to create your "rule" (using your CASE statement) to assign each status level to the appropriate "number" in the sequence.
    That's what I would do. The only addition I can add is you could do this in the rpd by adding an "order" column to your LOVs in the table and exposing that as a column in the Presentation Layer. Then you can use that order column as the sort.

  • How do I get Iphoto to preserve the sort order when I transfer an album?

    Here's my problem. I carefully sorted my album of 230 photos manually. Each photo was then numbered from 1 to 230.   Then I used IPhoto Library Manager to transfer this album someplace else -- to my desktop, to a thumb drive, to Dropbox---   In every case, when I did that, the photos themselves transfered just fine,  but the sort order I had so carefully constructed has fallen apart and cannot by retrieved. Even  when I  close and then reopen an Album I have transferred to my Desktop, it loses its sort order.  This is driving my crazy  because I need to transfer this album so that it preserves the slideshow I have designed for it. A slideshow, of course, demands preserving the order of the slides.
    In short, how can I preserve the sort order of an album when I transfer it out of one library to another?

    If you're transferring to another library, why are you exporting to the Finder (which is what Desktop, thumbdrive and DropBox are). This doesn’t understand manual sorting from iPhoto.
    Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
    Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
    Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
    Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
    Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.
