Formatting iPod on MAC....then PC...will I lose my music?

I have a Mac at work and a PC at home. My new iPod was formatted and its iTunes content downloaded from the Mac. However, when I plugged it into my PC to either charge the battery or download iTunes from that computer, it asked me if I wanted to "format the iPod for a PC."
My question is, if I say "yes," will it then wipe out all of my music from the Mac? Can it be formatted both ways or must I choose one or the other? I've searched similar topics on this board but couldn't find an answer. Thanks!

I guess I'm out of luck then since I originally formatted it to the Mac instead of a PC.
No. Just Restore it on the PC and uyou can use it on the Mac and the PC.
If you Restore the iPod, it will do nothing to the music on your computer.
It will erase everything on the iPod.
If you want to use it on both computers, Restore it with iTunes on the PC. Then you can just reload the music from the Mac.

  • TS1363 if I uninstall i-tunes then reinstall, will I lose my music?

I have a new ipod nano (gen 7). When I plug it in to my computer, windows recognizes it, but i-tunes does not. I updated everything and tried the recommended fixes but nothing is working. The only thing I did not try was uninstalling and reinstalling i-tunes. I am concerned that if I uninstall, I will lose my music. Can I uninstall and reinstall without losing my music?

The music will remain. Back it up anyway.

TVs don't support "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", so you will probably have to use FAT32. To format the external drive, follow the same steps as you did to format it with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled), but in the erasing screen, select "MS-DOS (FAT)" as "Format". Note that FAT32 isn't compatible with files bigger than 4 GB. Also, you may have to format the external drive in a PC

  • Problem with windows formatted iPod on Mac

I have a 20gb 4th gen iPod formatted for Windows. I just received a Mini Mac as a gift and now I want to use the iPod on it. When I connect the iPod and run iTunes it recognizes it and updates and does everything it's supposed to do, but if I try to click on any of the items in the menu on the left (Library, Playlists, etc.) iTunes quits completely and the iPod is ejected. I've tried restoring but that makes it quit, too. I've also tried completely erasing everything from the iPod manually (even the hidden files and folders) but that doesn't reformat it. Any suggestions?

    Senuti.
It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.
    As is Music Rescue.
Both of these should work with a Windows formatted iPod because Macs can read and write to FAT32 formatted drives.

  • If I update my 4th gen ipod to the iOS 5, will I lose the data on my apps?

If I update my 4th gen ipod to the iOS 5, will I lose the data on my apps?

If everthing goes as planned, your app date wil be restored to the iPod. To help guard againste a possible mishap. sync (iTunes also creates a backup) the iPod before the udate and caopy the backup file to a save location in case something happens.  The backup is located here:
Where iTunes backups are stored on your computer
The folder where your backup data are stored varies depending on the computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your periodic data-backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

    Hi texasslagle,
It sounds like you are having issues installing iTunes on your Windows 7 PC, a frustrating situation I am sure.
There is an article that you may want to use to try to complete your install here -

My old computer with itunes no longer works.  If I hook my ipod to my new computer will I lose the songs that are on it now?

    Yes, you will.
Do you have the songs still?
You could add them to your new library if you do.

  • Will I lose my music if iTunes says its corrupt to uninstall then reinstall

Will I lose my music if my iTunes is corrupt and needs to be uninstall and then reinstalled

    Hi Amylu6274,
If you need to remove and reinstall iTunes on your Windows machine, you may find the following article useful:
Apple Support: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. If you're unsure how to backup, see iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.

  • Will i lose all music on iPod classic if i reset sync history?

If i "reset sync history" will I lose all of my music on iPod?

    Hi PhyllisT,
This will not erase the music on your iPod, but the next time you connect iTunes will act like it's the first time that you have connected the iPod and you'll have to do all of your sync preferences again.  Is this part of troubleshooting?

I can't open (launch) iTunes.  If I uninstall then reinstall will I lose my iTunes purchases?

    Hi Reeve7,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
In Windows 8, you should make sure you can find your iTunes library files, and you may want to backup to a different location. After that, reinstalling should fix the problem.
    Good luck,

  • TS2776 Had to get a new hard drive, of course lost all my music in itunes. If I sync my ipod to itunes will I lose my music on my ipod??

Had to get a new hard drive, of course lost all my music in itunes.  If I sync my ipod to itunes now will I lose my music on my ipod?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software to copy over.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • If I uninstall iTunes and reinstall it, will I lose my music files?

    Hi
My Ipod touch (2nd Gen) is not being recognised in itunes. I have gone through the ipod touch assistant, and this has made no difference.
Next try is to uninstall itunes and re-install it. However...will I lose my music library when I do this?
I am also having problems with my external back-up drive which has now stopped me opening it up (I have had it for a year), as it says "I don't have permission to see it's contents" and "files can't be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be "read-only" - so I am loathe to uninstall itunes if I lose all my music etc....
    Thanks for your help
    Simon

You will not lose any music..
However, you do have a current backup of the iTunes folder and all other important info on your hard drive, correct?

  • Hey - if I restore my iPhone will I lose the music I've purchased from it?

Hey - if I restore my iPhone will I lose the music I've purchased from it?

A restore will erase your iTunes media but you can re download iTunes purchases without being charged again.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
"With iTunes 10.3 and iOS 4.3.3 or later, you can download your previous purchases directly to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or computer.1"
