Frame-by-frame advance (again!)

How nice that Comcast seems to be focusing on improving all things sports (see latest July and Aug updates), but how about giving people the feature they -- well, me anyway -- really want to improve their watching of sports (as well as other things), true slo-mo and frame-by-frame advance???? We had it before, and we want it back!!!

thank you so much for talking to me. I didn't realize
tweening applied to frame by frame animation. So I create a motion
tween btw each key frame?
What I don't understand is: I want to be able to take the
symbol in the last keyframe, drag it away from the rest of the
symbols that are all aligned, and then get them to distribute
automaticaly in their own keyframes. This is really done best
through tweening? I thought this would only worked if all the in
between steps were not keyframes.
When I select all the keyframes at once and tween them they
do not distribute.
But I am probably not doing this right, I don't have time to
experiment right now, I just wanted to say thanks.

  • Advance frame-by-frame on a streaming video

    Hi,
    i've recently installed Wowza media server 2 locally, currently only for testing purposes.
    everything works fine, except of accurate seeking functionality - or in other words advancing frame-by-frame .
    when i use VLC to play my video file i have no problems advancing frame-by-frame.  however, when i use the 'seek()' function to move the playhead a fraction of a second, its seems to move only to the next key frame (meaning that only once every few mouse clicks the playhead advances dramatically).
    i thought that when using streaming video (unlike progressive download) this issue is resolved.  am i wrong?  did i miss something?
    thanks in advance,

    II think you should post your query on Wowza forums - because this forum is for Flash Media Server and probably not best place where you can find Wowza server experts.

  • Possible to continuous advance video frame by frame?

    In the prior program I was using I could do a frame by frame advance by holding down the arrow key (either forward or reverse). LR4 seems to want me to keep "pressing" the frame advance key for each frame (I am aware shift adavances by 10 but you still have to keep pressing repeatedly).
    Thanks

    Not that I know of.

  • Can't advance frame-by-frame in FCP4

    For some reason, the video in the canvas will not advance frame by frame when i hit the arrow buttons. The audio moves, but not the picture. If i play back normally or slo-mo, the video advances normally, just not when i use the arrows. However, the video in the viewer advances correctly.
    I am running the video off a firewire hard drive, but this hasn't been a problem in the past. I'd love some help!

    Get yourself up to fcp 4.5. (free dl)
    v 4.0 was a bit unworkable.
    From memory - there were other funny things as well ...
    Have you recently also upgraded qt ?
    Do not go past qt 6.5.2 with Panther.

  • Why can't I advance a video frame-by-frame with the arrow keys?

    I am able to play a video, and to scrub through by clicking and dragging the play head, but when the video is paused, my arrow keys won't advance frame-by-frame.  Is there a place that I have to enable the arrow key function?  I've looked through the Preferences but didn't see anything.  Anybody know how to get this to work?  Thanks!!

  • Frame by frame animation, trying again

    or something wrong with the way I am asking it? Mainly I want
    to know if am am even using the right tool for this task. And why
    the helll this is not working?
    I am doing a frame by frame animation of something I brought
    in from Illustrator. I have 20 keyframes, each with one (slightly
    different) symbol. I need this to move accross the screen.
    How does one do it, I must be missing something, this must
    come up all the time in frame by frame animation. I need the
    symbols to be distribited exactly same distance apart.
    I tried using the "align/distribute" feature the same way I
    know it from illustrator, and it is just kind of working. I check
    "edit all frames" make sure all the keyframes are selected and then
    go to the align panel and distribute the centers of all symbols.
    What goes wrong is this: it distributes them, but out of
    order. Instead of putting frame 2 couple pixels to the right from
    frame 1, it puts it right at the end where I would like the frame
    #20. the middle then seems in the right order but beginning and end
    are always mixed up.
    Is the distribute feature the best way of doing this , and
    why am I having this problem?

  • Acheiving frame by frame in videos.

    Hi all, I'm trying to achieve true frame by frame but have
    run into some problems.
    To do this I have been changing the VideoDisplay and
    VideoPlayer classes. This is an AIR app set to 99 fps, and I'm
    getting an actual framerate of around 88. I have encoded videos
    into flv's using Flash CS3 Video Encoder being sure to set
    keyframes to every frame and have varied the framerate from 10 to
    30 and the video data rate too.
    When going frame by frame I have the video in a paused state.
    On click of a button the video will seek to the next keyframe
    (which should be the next actual frame). As an example, using this
    method I can only actually get an average of 19 frames in a second
    for a video encoded at 24 fps when the data rate is 2K kbs (data
    rates higher or lower will only allow me to get as low as 10 frames
    in a second). The video metadata confirms that the video is 24fps.
    I also tried a play/pause method where I perform a check
    every time the enterFrame event is dispatched by the videoPlayer (I
    get more frequent updates from this than setting the
    playheadUpdateInterval value really low) and pause if the playhead
    has advanced. My event handler gets called about 88 times a second,
    consistent with the framerate. With a 24fps video, we would expect
    the playheadTime of the video (which is == ns.time of the NetStream
    object) increase by intervals of 1000/24 = 41.667 milliseconds. But
    when I play the video and store all the playheadTime values in an
    array, I see it sometimes goes up by 14 ms, or 52ms to name a
    couple (and still get about 19 frames in a second).
    Interestingly, the playheadTimes are not always consistent.
    On one run I saw the playheadTime go from 9.9s, to 9.978, 10.109,
    to 10.135. Another time the playheadTime went from 9.9s to 10.057,
    10.109, 10.135. So we gained a frame at 10.057 but the one at 9.978
    was not "found". After a few more runs I saw that the playhead also
    reached 9.952s, and 10.031s. So consider: 9.900, 9.952, 9.978,
    10.031, 10.057, 10.109, 10.135. This range has playhead increments
    of 52ms, 26ms, 53ms, 26ms, 52ms, 26ms.
    So the playhead increments are not consistent. That's fine.
    But the playheadTime times themselves do not always exist, or the
    Video.as class is not reading the .flv file consistently, or the
    NetStream class is not updating the time property correctly,
    or.....? Unfortunately Video.as is an intrinsic Flash class and I
    don't have access to it, nor do I have access to NetStream.
    Does anyone have any suggestions? Or see something I missed?
    Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I've kind of
    burned out on getting this to work. Thanks.

    Yes I would like to be able to do this again. Can itunes use Quicktime 7 as its video player?

  • Separate frame by frame in iMovie

    I need to create a 3d video on iMovie.
    To do this I have to separate the movie frame by frame. In the older version it was easily possible, with iMovie 9 I can't find any option to do so.
    Could someone give me some tips&trics?
    Thanks in advance!!

    ...and in the FCPX project itself?
    To explain: I've to separate frame by frame, then cancel every 2nd frame and substitute the frames cancelled with other frames from another clip....I know, it's a bit complicated to explain, but the goal is to create a 3D clip...Thanks again for your precious help!! Take care!

  • Rotobrush frame by frame

    I use After Effects CC on Mac.  I'm using rotobrush, I use page up and page down for seeing and adjusting each frame.  But when video plays does appear some rotobrush paths that I did not made.   And it cannot be seen when I do my frame by frame check.
    Problem may be caused because video was recorded in a camera which records HD at 60fps but after list clips on screen if they were recorded at 29.97 fps.   Clips have .MTS extension.
    I'm developing final video at 59.97 fps, I tried changing to 29.97 but problem stills unsolved.   Some sugestion ?

    I took a while for reading manuals and watching videos.  Don't see any other technique for using rotobrush instead of
    1-selecting a frame
    2-applying rotobrush
    3-page up to next frame
    4-applying roto again and again, frame by frame
    as is shown in this video

    if there are another technique for using it I should like to learn it.

  • How do I go frame to frame after a few seconds?

    Hello,
    I'm new here so forgive any mistakes or lack of knowledge.
    (Brief history: I have programmed in Pascal before, currently learning Java and Flash)
    So my question is i want to be able to move from frame to frame after X amount of seconds. I have searched online for coding on how to do this with the action script and managed to get the first frame working. The problem occurs with my 5th frame as frame 1 goes to frame 5 in 5 seconds but when i want frame 5 to go to frame 10 in 10 seconds it decides not to work.
    Below is the code i used in order to accomplish the first frame:
    stop();
    var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(5000, 1);
              myTimer.start();
        myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, function(e:TimerEvent)
            play();
    If there is a problem with the code or if there is an alternative way for better practice please do let me know.
    My 5th frame code:
    stop();
    var myTimer2:Timer = new Timer(5000, 1);
      myTimer2.start();
        myTimer2.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, function(e:TimerEvent)
            play();
    Thanks in advance. If anyone is struggling to understand my question, apologies because i am really bad when it comes to structuring sentences.

    You should not have to create more than one timer for this.  Also, you should not be building the event handler function into the listener, keep it as a separate function.
    In frame 1 you could have...
         stop();
         var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(5000, 1);
         myTimer.start();
         myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, moveOn);
         function moveOn(e:TimerEvent):void {
               play();
    and all you would need in frame 5 would be....
         stop();
         myTimer.start();

  • Is Frame by Frame Seek possible in Flex 4?

    Hi,
    I am working on a Flex player and I want to move frame by frame but the seek() function moves only in seconds.Is it possible using any other function? Plz reply. I am kind of stuck. The functionality I want is available in VLC media player. You can see it by playing a video and continue pressing the "e" key from the keyboard which moves the video frame by frame.
    Thank in advance.

    David,
    It seems iM4 can have only one project open at a time.
    Your observation is correct, iMovie 4 will not let you copy and paste or drag and drop video clips, audio clips, and photos from one project into another.
    With iMovie 4 you will be limited to opening one project at a time. However there are several techniques that will allow you to share clip(s) from one project to another (eg. clips that have been edited on the timeline or clips from one project's media folder to another project media folder).
    Exactly what are you trying to do, or were you just asking to see if this feature was available in iMovie 4?

  • Video frame by frame?

    Since we're now being shoe-horned into using iTunes to play any and all purchased content (as opposed to the old, functional way of being able to use QuickTime Player), can anyone tell me how to advance video frame by frame (one frame at a time) in iTunes? The arrow keys don't do it, none of the "forward/reverse" buttons work, and using the mouse wheel freezes the video and jumps ahead or back several *minutes* at a time, not frame by frame.
    Or is this another wonderful "feature" of iTunes 11 that I should "thank" Apple for showering down on us humble users?

    Oops -- forgot to mention: this is on Snow Leopard (10.6.8).

  • No audio playback when moving playhead frame by frame

    FCP version: 5.0
    Machine: Macbook
    When I use the keyboard arrows to move the playhead forward frame by frame, I'm not hearing any audio. Even the audio level meter doesn't seem to move
    But when I play the timeline normally, the audio is there, and the audio level meter starts moving again.
    I normally use this to find the very start of a person's speech, but without the audio, it's quite hard to put a cut in right at the first word that a person says.
    What can I do to hear the audio when I move the arrow keys?

    Press shift and S keys to turn on "Audio Scrubbing".

  • Sound Missing using frame by frame!!!!

    Dear FCP 7 Community,
    during my recent editing, I suddenly experienced some difficulties. When I want to my make a clear cut to the beat, I can´t hear the audio track on my sequenz window, by using the frame by frame option.
    Also on the upper left Corner in the Viewer Window there´s this framework around it, that keeps moving. It seems that I can´t change the aspect ratio correctly. At the buttom there´s a picture to solve my problem faster.
    Thanks
    Florina

    The Audio Part worked great, thanks about that.
    The Video Part on the other hand doesn´t work. I did everything you told me, I even rebooted couple of times, but it won´t work.
    Every time I open FCP I can see in the Viewer Tab the Source Clip with a In and Out Point, although I did´nt set it up.
    Any other reason you might know?
    Thanks again.

  • Motion tweening a frame-by-frame animation

    Hello,
    I am an experienced animator who is new to using Flash. I need to know how to add a motion tween to an animation that I already made frame-by-frame. The animation will be of a fish blinking as it swims across the stage. I already created the frame animation of the fish blinking, but now I want to motion tween the whole animation (not just one frame) across the stage. However, I cannot figure out how to do this. Is there a way to create a simple animation that uses frame-by-frame animation and motion tweens simultaneously?

    Unfortunately, Adobe let (character) animators down by not developing any of Flash's animation tools since v8 - quite the contrary, the latest incarnation, CC, removed a lot of (quite essential) animation functionality. No more bones (yikes!) or motion curves control.
    A shame, because once Flash was the industry standard app for tv show animation. Not so anymore, though: Adobe dropped the ball in that regard, and mostly focuses on web/mobile apps and games development currently.
    There are two options:
    1) use animator-oriented alternatives like Toonboom and/or Anime Studio Pro (both of which export to flash movies);
    2) download a bunch of plugins, and extend Flash so that its workflow becomes more animator friendly.
    If you are just starting out, I would probably advise you to have at least a cursory look at the alternatives. However, having said all that, Flash can still be an enjoyable environment to animate in, IF you extend it a bit. Unfortunately some workflow may not be CC friendly anymore at this point due to the missing (almost essential) functionality compared to CS6 - you may prefer to work in CS6, depending.
    These will help you extend Flash to become a bit more animator friendly:
    http://cloudkid.com/tools
    http://flash-powertools.com/
    For example, Keyframe Caddy would solve your problem animating an eye by keyframing it in a symbol.
    The guys at flash-powertools created a character animation workflow you may like, which addresses the deficiences of Flash for professional level character animation. They have some nice templates and example character files for you to examine.
    A word of warning: character animation in Flash can become somewhat technical and daunting - in that case a tool like Anime Studio with excellent and easy to use bone tools and proper real(!) animation curves can be truly helpful. These can then be imported into Flash, and edited. Also, both AS and TB have a "real" virtual 3d camera of the scene that makes it easy to create parallax scrolling backgrounds and zoom in/out panning effects.
    Anyway, this is how you would do it in Flash:
    1) install Keyframe Caddy
    2) draw your fish in a cutout-fashion (seperate eye).
    3) convert all the fish elements to a graphic symbol (F8)
    4) double-click the fish symbol
    5) select the eye, and convert to a graphic symbol again
    6) add different drawings for the eye blinking
    7) return to the main stage
    Now you can start animating the fish:
    1) first animate the entire character moving
    2) then after you finish the overall movement, move to the frame you wish to change the eye
    3) double-click the fish character, and select the eye
    4) in KeyFrame Caddy click "load thumbnails". This should load up all the different frames (drawings/states) for that graphic symbol and display them all in the KeyFrame Caddy window
    5) now simply click on the required eye state, and KeyFrame Caddy will automatically create a keyframe for that state.
    6) move the timeline scrubber to the next frame you wish to keyframe eye movement
    7) click on the required eye state in the KeyFrame Caddy window.
    ...and so on! You may have to switch between the main scene and the fish symbol
    Make certain the lengths of both timelines are identical, otherwise the eye animation will start to repeat if it is shorter than the main timeline. Inversely, if the main timeline is shorter than the eye animation, the eye animation will obviously not be able to run completely through.
    One more thing: keep an eye out on the graphic symbol's looping in the properties - you may want to set it to either play once or looping (or even single frame).
    For more info on graphic symbols, read this:
    http://dev.tutsplus.com/articles/flashs-underrated-graphic-symbol--active-9964
    Also check out those two sites' other tools. And check out the workflow on the electric Dreams website. Hope this helps a bit.
