Gaps in Oracle Dataguard Standby
Hello,
The system is a Logical Standby Dataguard.
With the following query it is possible to see that there are gaps:
SQL> set numformat 99999999999
SQL> set linesize 2000
SQL> set pagesize 20000
SQL> select thread# trd, sequence#,
2 first_change#, next_change#,
3 dict_begin beg, dict_end end,
4 to_char(timestamp, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') timestamp,
5 (case when l.next_change# < p.read_scn then 'YES'
6 when l.first_change# < p.applied_scn then 'CURRENT'
7 else 'NO' end) applied
8 from dba_logstdby_log l, dba_logstdby_progress p
9 order by thread#, first_change#;
1 614 18542918309 18542918429 NO NO 04-DEC-2009 09:31:11 YES
1 633 18543602669 18543836687 NO NO 04-DEC-2009 09:31:10 YES
1 637 18543836687 18544028244 NO NO 04-DEC-2009 09:31:10 YES
1 12832 203846572934 203846572944 NO NO 22-DEC-2009 09:31:10 YES
Although all of them are APPLIED, and it is still receiving and applying the redo, it seems like there are some gaps.
How can I check that the Standby is totally synchronized? How can I check if the Standby has still those archive logs that haven't been applied?
Thanks in advance.
There are errors in the alert of the Primary on the 4th of Dec. and it seems like the Primary had problems trying to do the archive in the Standby:
Error 1034 received logging on to the standby
Errors in file /opt/oracle/diag/rdbms/db_s2/DB1/trace/DB1_arc5_15720.trc:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
FAL[server, ARC5]: FAL archive failed, see trace file.
Errors in file /opt/oracle/diag/rdbms/db_s2/DB1/trace/DB1_arc5_15720.trc:
ORA-16055: FAL request rejected
ARCH: FAL archive failed. Archiver continuing
ORACLE Instance DB1 - Archival Error. Archiver continuing.
The thing is that I don't know if those archive logs where sent or not to the Standby and if the Standby applied them or not.
By the following query, it seems like there are some archive logs that weren't applied, but the strange thing is that the Standby is still working and applying and that there are archive logs from today which have been received and applied, and as far as I know, the DG stops applying if there are gaps...

ORACLE DATAGUARD and STANDBY on two LINUX machine (64 bits and 32 bits)
Hi there
I have two Linux machines: one with Linux RH 4 Update 2 for 64 bits and
the other one with Linux RH 4 Update 2 for 32 bits.
I was wondering two things:
1) Is it possible to implement ORACLE DATAGUARD between these two machines?
2) Is it possible to implement only a Static Standby Database on the second node?
Suppose we have Oracle Database EE on both machines.
Thanks in advance for any information
Regards
FelipeBut both oracle database version must be of 32 bit version.
from oracle doc
2.3.1 Hardware and Operating System Requirements
The following list describes hardware and operating system requirements for using Data Guard:
All members of a Data Guard configuration must run an Oracle image that is built for the same platform.
For example, this means a Data Guard configuration with a primary database on a 32-bit Linux on Intel system can have a standby database that is configured on a 32-bit Linux on Intel system. However, a primary database on a 64-bit HP-UX system can also be configured with a standby database on a 32-bit HP-UX system, as long as both servers are running 32-bit images. -
Oracle DataGuard Logical Standby
Hi , I'd like to know what are the premisses to make a standby logical replication.
I have two environments (production and standby) with different number of processors and storage.
I'd like to know if it's possible to create data guard solution with these two environments and what are the premisses that I need aware to install the solution.
Thanks in advance.Hello;
Yes the storage ( as long as you have enough space ) and cpu don't matter.
You can use hardware that's quite a bit different and it will work fine.
You can also create a Logical Standby fro a physical standby.
These notes may help :
NOTE 413484.1 - Data Guard Support for Heterogeneous Primary and Physical Standbys in Same Data Guard Configuration
Mixed Oracle Version support with Data Guard Redo Transport Services [ID 785347.1]
Logical Standby's don't seem to be very popular and the support base suffers because of this. I would consider a physical standby with Active Data Guard if costs allow.
Active Data Guard makes an excellent "Reader" database plus I believe your switchover and failover options are much better than a Logical Standby.

How to configure oracle dataguard for connecting to the second nic.
hi
i want deploy my oracle dataguard on a remote site on a separate lease line
and on the second nic of the primary. i just have a concern that what
configurations should be made in the primary or standby to make sure the replication can work as the first nic is connected to receive the general database
data and the second nic is being planned for replication only.
so how standby will come to know that it has to pick which one of then.
waiting for an early reply
manish lall
[email protected]thanks for the reply
does that mean nothing is to be needed to configure for oracle standby as such.
can you give me some idea of how this ip routing configuration will be done -
ABAP+JAVA stack and oracle dataguard
Hi all,
I use Oracle Dataguard for my Data recovery System.
How can I manage tha Java part of nw2004s. In case of failover or switchover, the ABAP part is OK but the J2EE cannot start.
Thank's for your help,
Regards
Oracle 10.2.0.2 on Windows 2003 x64 R2It's ok guys. I just replace the j2ee/cluster directory of standby system by the one of source system.
The j2e engine can be started. -

Applying oracle patchset in oracle-dataguard environment
Hello There,
I wish to apply oracle patchset in oracle dataguard environment.
can you please let me know the steps that has to be taken on Primary & standby database?
is there any specific document for this?
DB - oracle 10.2.0.4
OS - Linxu x86_64
Best Regards
Sachin BhattHi Sachinn,
To patch primary site, you can find the detailed infirmation in readme.html, in the patch zip file. Additionally, at the standby site, In order to apply the patch;
1) stop the log shipment
2) stop the oracle related services
3) patch the Oracle
4) Startup migrate
5) execute the SQL scripts
6) start the log shipment
Check the link below;
http://dbaforums.org/oracle/index.php?showtopic=17398

Enabling Oracle Dataguard modes?
There are 3 modes in which Oracle dataguard works-Maximum Protection, Max availability and Max performance. How do I set any one of these? whats the process?
I have implemented a dataguard standby using manual steps, now I would like to see the GUI tool-Dataguard Broker to manage it..but I did not see it listed in my windows programs under Oracle? How do I start this Broker?
Thanks,
SandeepYou didn't indicate the version of your database. Assuming it to be oracle10g and if it is so and want to mange the dataguard configuration using GUI, you would be needing Grid Control and agents on primary and standby servers and of course DG broker. This would be accessible over your internet browser and is not associated with any programs/menu items under windows.
HTH
Thanks

Question - Oracle Physical Standby
Oracle 10.2.0.3 database running on row logical disk (row device) with two thread RAC cluster with CRS and AIX-HACMP implemented on two nodes running AIX6.1 OS
My question can one create simple Oracle Physical Standby (without data guard etc) Database on different AIX node which do not have HACM and CRS RAC but simple non RAC Oracle S/W installed
If this can be done how the single one thread non RAC Oracle database will consume and apply two thread archive logs and keep itself to sync with primary database changes.
Can you please provide some details if this is feasible or not? My guess is for this to happend ORACLE RAC setup with RAC enable Oracle S/W is must with one active thread and other thread can be inactive and not in use.
Thanks –A standby database is not Data Guard ... it is a standby. Data Guard is a specific automated implementation of a Standby. You can do whatever you wish manually if you prefer pain to comfort.
Personally I'd throw away the IBM stuff and go with Data Guard: It is far superior and does something critical HACM can not do ... guarantee that what is replicated is logically correct. Replicating corruption has no value. -
Oracle Logical Standby as data source
Post Author: garyreit
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Has anyone succesfully used an Oracle Logical Standby server as a
data source? When I try I get "table not found" for all the
tables in Crystal reports, but the report runs fine. When I run
the same report in BOE, The report fails with the error:Error in File D:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects
Enterprise
11.5\Data\procSched\biapp1.reportjobserver\~tmp1c4c50845f07b62.rpt:
Error in formula <Record Selection>.
'{PS_CANC_TERM_CLASS.BATCH_ID} = {?Batch ID} and
This field name is not known.
Details: errorKind We are using BOE XI R2 sp2 and Oracle 10g with an ODBC using the Oracle connector.
Any Ideas?ThanksPost Author: udasgupta

Using RMAN for creating a Dataguard Standby db.
Hello,
I have two 11.2.0.1.0 oracle instances running on two cloned Red Hat Enterprise Linux (rhel98 and rhel99). Linux version:
Linux rhel99 2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed May 25 17:46:45 EDT 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/LinuxI am trying to perform a "duplicate target database for standby" as part of the list of steps to get a Physical Standby located at the rhel99 server with DB_UNIQUE_NAME ORCL99. But I am missing something because it keeps failing with this error:
RMAN-05556: not all datafiles have backups that can be recovered to SCN 2818790
RMAN-03015: error occurred in stored script Memory Script
RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore
RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 5 found to restore
RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 1 found to restoreI double checked the directory structure on primary (rhel98) and standby (rhel99), and it's the same. As control file is restored during the duplicate process I cannot perform the catalog start with, so the backups were placed on the same locations at rhel98 and 99.
According to that error message it is not finding any of the datafile backups.

Edited by: martin.morono on May 29, 2013 8:56 PMThanks Hemant but the issue is the same with sequence 6 or 22. I posted the RMAN log from an old duplicate I ran yesterday using sequence 6, but as you can see below the error is not changing with setting "until sequence 22"
Hemant K Chitale wrote:
Your database datafile backups are as of Checkpoint SCN 3100062 which is higher than the archivelogs (and certainly higher than SEQ#6).
Possibly SEQUENCE#22 will cover the database checkpoint SCN. Therefore, the minimum UNTIL SEQUENCE would be 23 or higher.

=====================================================================
Problem Description
Oracle8i Standard Edition
Solution Description:
Oracle8i Standard Edition
Explanation:
===========
