Get mail message count

I have set up Mail with my GMail account and am trying to pull down messages. Every time I click "Get Mail", it only pulls down about 8-12 messages. Is there a way to say "Get ALL Mail" instead of having to hit this button repeatedly? If not, is there at least a way to force Mail to get more messages (e.g. 100 at a time) when I hit "Get Mail"?

I believe this may be a limitation of GMail. When I first set up a GMail POP account it took quite a long time for it to download everything that was in my GMail account as it kept getting the messages in small groups like you are describing. I just set Mail to check for new messages every minute and left it alone for a long time.

It sounds like you have modified the password settings for your Gmail account after changing the password. Thats where I would have started too. Next I would restart the device and test it one more time, and then remove and add the account again in Settings:
Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap the affected email account.
Tap Delete Account.
Add your account again.

Cannot get mail message, then later I get mail

Cannot get mail message for all accounts, then later without doing anything I get my mail a couple of hours late. Have screen shot but can't seem to insert it here.

It sounds like you have modified the password settings for your Gmail account after changing the password. Thats where I would have started too. Next I would restart the device and test it one more time, and then remove and add the account again in Settings:

Suddenly I consistently receive 3 or more "Cannot Get Mail" messages but all messages are received

I have over a dozen email accounts on my iPhone, a mix of godaddy, gmail... imap and pop. All of them were working fine, and then last week I started getting "Cannot Get Mail" messages, 2 or 3 back-to-back, every time mail is retrieved.
The thing is, I am receiving all messages from all mail accounts, despite these messages. So I have no way of knowing which service they are a result of. I have gone into settings to each account and resaved it, to see if the validation would fail on any, but all are fine.

I am using two methods

I am getting different output from both the above cases.
I have tested both cases on many accounts and they give me same message count. but for one gmail account only they give me different message count for two folders, Inbox as well as Gmail/All.
Can anyone tell me the reason for this difference.

Yes, in case 1, i first open the folder and then i call folder.getMessageCount().

How to get unread message count

I m working in mail application where i need to get the unread message count.Can anyone help me out in solving this issue ,is there any specific method available in javamail to get this count.

Is there some reason you're unable to read the
javadocs? Did you find them too confusing?
What's wrong with the method Folder.getUnreadMessageCount?
Oh, and if you're using POP3 instead of IMAP,
read the FAQ and the com.sun.mail.pop3 package
javadocs.

Mac Mail Message Count (Not New Messages) Missing

I do not know if I did something yesterday, but today I do not see the count of messages in a mailbox in the header of the application when I select a mailbox.
Did I click something somewhere and now I can't find it?

I come from a Windows history that goes back to the late 1980's and used to be quite familiar with rebooting my laptop 7-30 times a week. When I moved to the Apple ecosystem, I forgot completely about having to reboot periodically - something I have discovered is necessary with Mac's, too. It is especially necessary with applications that get a lot of use - I cycle through a couple thousand e-mail messages every week.
I restarted Mail because it started acting up in other ways, too. Voila! Problem solved.

In full screen mail, message count vanishes

I'm not sure if this is a Mavericks issue, or has always been an issue. When I use mail with the message viewer as a regular window, the count of messages in the mailbox I'm looking at shows in the window bar. But when I switch to full screen, the count vanishes. Am I missing something?

You're not missing something. When an app is made Full Screen, its title bar is removed. This is true for all apps; though most don't suffer from the loss of a feature the way Mail does.
If you want to see how many messages are in the currently-selected mailbox without leaving Full Screen, move your cursor to the top of the screen to reveal the Menu Bar, click on the "Window" menu and the very last item displayed in the dropdown will be the window title, which includes the message count in parenthesis. Alternatively, you can right-click (two-finger click if on a trackpad) on Mail's icon in the Dock, and it will show you the window name with the message count in parenthesis. Both options are less convenient than glancing at the menu bar, but at least you can remain in Full Screen.

A cannont get mail message, what does it mean?

i got a message that my email wasn't connected. the message reads: cannot get mail the user name or password for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect." what does this mean? it was working fine 10 minutes ago! i've tried deleting my email address, and reseting it, but i keep getting that message. can anyone help?

I found out that happens to me when my IPhone is trying to retrieve mail at the same time as other apps. Either my Yahoo! mail page is up at work or I left my Mail.app open at home. If I try a few minutes later it's usually cleared up.

Do you have multiple email accounts on your iPhone? It is possible that one (or more) of them are functioning correctly and others are not. I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

"Cannot Get Mail" message

I am using an iPhone5 and keep getting a message that says cannot get mail as username or password are incorrect. They're not!have tried deleting and reinstalling but this doesn't work either. Have also reset phone no luck!I am receiving my Sky emails on both my iPad and MacBook so can't understand why phone won't work?Any help would be appreciated...thank you!

Having the same issue as well. Says my password is incorrect. Have tried accessing the sky email via their website, but it won't let me progress past the confirmation of details screen, where I have to agree to the terms and conditions.. Just returns to the sky help page. this is becoming a serious issue as I cannot access any of my emails . Have also deleted the account on iPad and tried with a yahoo account, but still no joy. Anyone found a fix for this yet?

Microsoft Exchange email stopped working "Cannot Get Mail" message

About 4 days ago my work email stopped working altogether. Every time i open the application, a message 'Cannot Get Mail - The connection to the server failed.' appears. This happened about a day after i installed 2.2 firmware.
I spoke with my IT department and they haven't made any changes on the server.
I deleted all mail accounts on my phone but to no avail. I did a complete restore of the phone and it still doesn't work.
I had my phone replaced yesterday for a different issue, it came with 2.1 software and i still was not able to connect to the server.
One more thing, when i initially set up the account, i get an error message 'Unable to Verify Certificate'.
The email was working fine for about three months before that.
Any help would be very much appreciated since it's my work phone and i rely on having access to my email everywhere i go.

Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Mail Message Count

I liked in previous iPhone OS that my mail would display the message count, i.e. 1 of 17, etc. This option does not seem available in iOS7. Am I missing something? Thanks.

I had a problem with this exact number showing up with the file browser Path Finder back in 2006. I had consulted there forums about it and I thought it was an unusual problem and was isolated to this particular app, but apparently not...

I used to be able to see my total message count next to the inbox (not only unread mes) How do I get it back? If it is an add-on, does anybody know what it is called?

Any way to get the mail app to get updated message counts for other folders

I've been wondering if there's a way to get the mail app to not only check if new mail exists in my main "inbox", but also all of the folders on my imap server? I can individually visit each folder I'm interested in and while it works, I have to guess what folders might have mail in them.. It would be great to have the phone check all folders (or perhaps a list of subscribed folders) for new mail on a regular basis.. Any ideas?
